Before listening: this is my second favorite Beatles album and I just love it.
After: This still holds up! I forgot how many of my favorite Beatles songs are on this album and the vocal harmonies throughout are otherworldly! I will say that I still don’t really care for Run for your Life, especially as the closer. My favorites are In My Life, If I Needed Someone, Norwegian Wood, and If You Won’t See Me
Before Listening: Hotel California is one of my favorite songs. I think I’ve listened to this album, but definitely not recently.
After Listening: This album was great! Every song felt unique and different from the last. Of course I knew going in that I loved Hotel California and Life in the Fast Lane, but I was reminded of songs like New Kid in Town with its incredible harmonies! My favorite of the ones I hadn’t heard in a long time was Victim of Love! I also enjoyed the orchestra in Wasted Love (Reprise) and liked Try and Love Again! The Last Resort was a good commentary and overall, the album was solid!
Before listening: I think the only REM song I’ve heard is Losing My Religion. This will the the first album I listen to that I don’t know!
After listening: This album was good, but not great. I felt as though the last few songs sort of all sounded the same. However, I enjoyed Get Up, Orange Crush, World Leader Pretend, and The Wrong Child. Stand just make me think of Parks and Rec. I enjoyed the vocal layering throughout the album and the clear Doors reference in Pop Song 89. I also liked the instrumentals throughout. Not too bad!
Before Listening: I haven’t heard of this album or this band! I’m excited to see what’s in store!
After Listening: I wasn’t expecting British rap/electronic! The album wasn’t bad, it just was a lot of the same. The stand out for me was Diesel Power, which I enjoyed.
Before Listening: Heard of Pearl Jam, I’ve probably heard a song or two from this album, but we’ll see! I always think of it as Dad rock, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
After Listening: This album was better than I expected it to be! I loved the lyrics and Eddie Vedder’s voice was at times, transcendent. There wasn’t a song I didn’t like!
Before Listening: I know a couple Franz Ferdinand songs and really like them! Looking forward to this one!
After Listening: This was so much fun and I was just dancing the whole way through! I didn’t realize “Michael” was on this album, but it brought back so many great memories of karaoke with my friends and just jumping and dancing and living! There wasn’t a song I didn’t enjoy!
Before Listening: I’m not sure what to expect from this! I like the cover, it’s very interesting!
After Listening: there was definitely a theme and it was stuck to! I liked the ambient noise but felt like the music belonged in a movie like 28 Days Later or something. The repetitive lyrics were like casting a spell which was cool, but not my favorite album.
Before Listening: I don’t know if I’ve heard any of Paul Simon’s solo music so this should be good!
After Listening: I lied! I knew Train in the Distance. Outside of that and the late Great Johnny Ace, I felt pretty disappointed throughout. I must not be smart enough to “get” it.
Before Listening: I think I’ve heard the majority of songs on this album but I’ve never sat and listened straight through! I like MJ so I anticipate that I’ll enjoy this one.
After Listening: Good album! There were only a couple of songs that were so-so for me and the last few songs of the album are so good! Love Dirty Diana!
Before Listening: I have never heard of this group and not sure what to expect, but I’m excited to hear something new!
After Listening: I enjoyed this so much. I love rap/Hip-Hop and this was fantastic! I appreciated the social commentary and it’s so wild that these issues have not gotten any better. Really enjoyed this one.
Before Listening: I haven’t heard of this album or artist so we’ll see! The cover has an upside down flag so I’m expecting it will be political.
After Listening: meh
Before Listening: Is this the album with the song that has the f-slur? Guess we’ll find out!
After Listening: Yep, that’s the one. Besides that song, this one wasn’t too bad. I really enjoyed the orchestration and lyrically, it was pretty strong.
I was very pleasantly surprised to really enjoy this album! From the song titles, I wasn’t sure, but I thought it was a fun time!
This is my very first Bowie album! I know a song here and there but as an into to Bowie overall, this one was interesting. I liked the incorporation of electronic elements throughout! Sound and Vision was my favorite but was too short!
There were some really great songs on this album! But so many sound very similar so they didn’t always stick out to me. I enjoyed Mr. Brownstone as well as Think About You and Sweet Child O’ Mine the most!
I mean… wow. There’s a reason Joni Mitchell is considered a legend. The lyrics, her voice, the musicianship is all just SO good. It was just beautiful and it’s hard to dislike this era of music.
Not as good as I wanted it to be. At times, it felt very fake deep and I think that’s just Morrissey in general. Not the best but not the worst either. Middling.
This is not my favorite genre of music so I didn’t love this album. Couple good songs but nothing I would listen to at regular intervals.
I enjoyed this album! Lots of good songs.
This album was fantastic! I loved the political commentary. Also really enjoyed the genre switch up in Body Count and anti war message at the end. Appreciate that Ice-T wasn’t homophobic, gotta love that!
Overall, I enjoyed this album! It reminds me a lot of what I was listening to when I had just graduated high school. Great lyrics!
While there is clear talent on this album and I know Miles Davis is legendary, this one didn’t really do it for me. It felt like a lot of the same and I just think that hearing jazz live is always better than on an album. Not really something I’d take the time to listen to again.
This album was a blast all the way through! Vocals, instrumentals, all of it was so great!
I think that I’m too dumb for Radiohead. I liked some of the songs, the instrumentation was great but I don’t really GET it..
A great political album! I really enjoyed the sound and message. While my favorites are the singles, each song was worth a listen.
Loved Keely Smith’s voice! I miss that full bodied sound! Liked the harmonies but the beginning of like every song sounded like Pennies from Heaven. Favorite lyric was by far, “When you’re dead and in your grave, no more ravioli will you crave.”
Hard not to love Ray Charles singing Jazz! Good album all-around!
I really liked Speakerboxxx and while The Love Below was good, I didn’t like it as much.
