A fantastic summer album. Pretty much set the direction for modern R&B in many ways.
Best tracks:
Doo Woo (That Thing)
Can't Take My Eyes Off You
I'm normally not a huge fan of live albums but the vibe of this one it's really nice. Very well performed especially the piano. Sarah Vaughan has a beautiful voice and some of the tracks are really good. Unfortunately this is the type of Jazz I find the hardest to get into so it's got a ceiling for me.
Top tracks: Stairway To The Stars, Honeysuckle Rose, How High The Moon
A great album and was so close to being brilliant but Indian Summer is a stinker for obvious reasons.
But the composition and lyrics apart from the mentioned above, are extremely strong and has such a grand sound. Tiny Dancer is obviously a bop.
Honky Chateau is still his best album
Best tracks: Tiny Dancer, Levon, All the Nasties
I found this a difficult listen for the most part. There are some good moments but I found myself agitated and kind bored for a lot of it. Found it quite preachy at times as well.
Made me just want to listen to Frankie Goes To Hollywood
I wonder if I'd like this better if I watched the film
Best songs: Is There Anybody Out There?
Comfortably Numb (Scissor Sisters cover is better)
Another Brick in the wall Pt 1
Take Five and Blue Rondo à la Turk are fantastic tracks. Such a good driving rhythm throughout and fantastic playing. Great skill on display.
Love piano being used as an actual percussion instrument. While having so much energy and power god I love the piano.
Difficult to pick a top track as it really plays as one performance in my mind.
4.5
This is fun, great beats and bombastic sound. Some of the religious messaging is a little too strong for my taste but not enough to stop me from enjoying the record.
New Yorks Finest
Amazing production (fuck you Rick Rubin, fuck yeah Dust Brothers), Great flow. So fun from start to finish. Beastie Boys ran so so much shitty white boy rap could lazily copy.
Top Tracks:
Shake Your Rump
Egg Man
Shadrach
B-Boy Bouillabaisse (all tracks)
For music that's sounds like it's supposed to be exciting this is boring to me.
Some good guitar but I felt myself phasing in and out a little.
From the ZZ Top I've heard in the past this felt sanded down and more commercial, I guess cos it's later in their discography.
Cool album art tho
They're right this sounds Fuzzy. Love how this sounds. Good performances all round and sonically very full. Very good head nodder. Dips a little in the middle but not enough to be a problem.
Nice to be introduced to a new band who discography I wanna listen to now. Good job list.
Best tracks:
The Shining Hour
Fuzzy
America Snoring
A nice relaxing jazz albums, good cafe jazz. Great performing especially the piano and drums.
A nice listen this morning.
Weird to include a live album make up of songs that will already be on the list
I don't particular care about The Who and this isn't a great way to listen to my first album by them. Doesn't seem like a particularly well recorded album and I can't hear anything special about it but I might be missing something
Just seems very eh
Yeah it's Bowie at his best, no need to say more. But I will. Beautiful album, fantastic storytelling, so catchy but also with some brilliant moving moments. I can imagine how this changed the brain chemistry of so many teenagers when it first came out.
Top Tracks:
Five Years
Moonage Daydream
Starman
Ziggy Stardust
Suffragette City
So much fun. Got me boogying and a groovying. There really is no band like the b-52s and they're very good at what they do
It's good but it's not the best of Talking Heads and I know there are better Talking Heads albums tomcome. Still a fun if not a little forgettable listen. Second albums are difficult
How does the same band write Paint It Black and Stupid Girl.
This is a gross gross creepy album that just wasn't very fun to listen to. Would have been one star if it wasn't for paint it black
A fun pop album, an enjoyable listen. Not groundbreaking but doesn't need to be. Also breath of fresh air amounts all the rock.
I felt this was kinda un even. Some great amazing grooves and instrumation but the song felt they were missing something and lacked direction. Reading the history of the album it's understandable why, but still can't take away it's good too listen too and has some great funk and soul to it.
I rathed like. The moodiness of Leonards voice really pulls you in with some fantastic story tell and great instrumation. Shy of a 5, as I found it repetitive at times but not enough to take away from the clear beauty of this album.
It has some great tracks especially The Weight obviously (The Wheels on fire is also really good) and I can here how this goes onto influence others later down the road. But those highlights are let down by the rest of the album being mostly forgettable, well played and performed, but forgettable to me.
