Chameleon is great but quite repetitive at the start. Also the highlight of the album. The middle tracks are decent but the final track Vein Melter is anything but, extremely boring. 3 stars
Fairly laid back and inoffensive. Walk on the Wildside is that standout, but rest of the album is not overly exciting. 2 stars
I had only heard Royals back whenever that was popular, and nothing else from Lorde, so had no expectations of this. Was pleasantly surprised. There is a surprising amount of dynamics, creative rhyming schemes, and varying instrumentation (and dare I say 'progginess') that make this interesting to listen to. Lorde has distinctive voice that almost feels a little threatening. The first couple tracks are really good dance tracks, if it had kept up that I would say this could be a four stars. Unfortunately, it does start to wane as it moves to the back half of the album, and sounds a bit similar ballads.
Still, don't regret listening to that. 3 stars.
Boooring. Neil Young's voice is whiney and the songs are uninteresting. Southern Man is a bit more exciting and sounds more what I associate with Neil Young, but this album is not it. 1.5 stars
Weirdly surprising. Not expecting dance music, but its pretty good. Mixed up with weird instrumentation. The music itself is good. I can't decide if I like Björk's vocals on it, but they are very distinctive. Sometimes it works sometimes not. I prefer when she has more edge and grit to it. The dance tracks are great, the ballads less so. 3 stars
I've never quite worked out which hip-hop I like, and which I don't. I think this sheds some light on that. UK hip-hop from London is just better than the american variety. The LME dialect is excellent and I love the slang, but the announciation and bite just lend itself to more aggresive rapping and punchier beats. I think this is examplified on tracks like Ladies Hit Squad and Numbers where there are american features. Skepta's verses are excellent though. Some of the tracks are quite similiar stylistically, and the lyrics are generic, but they work. Even the skitting between tracks is enjoyable. Crime Riddin is probably my favourite, also That's Not Me. Man is also fun for the wordplay. Stuck between 3 and 4 stars on this, as I just don't know enough grime to compare. We'll say 3.5 for now; enjoyable listen but I don't feel the need to listen again.
Could not get into this one. There were almost some okay tracks, the more famous Red Alert being one, but the rest had so much random noises and crap thrown in it just ruined it for me. Also all the tracks sound disjointed. I wouldn't have known these were by the same artists if they weren't all on the same album. 1 star.
Good background music. The individual tracks all blurred together for me, and nothing stood out. Maybe good for its time but I feel I've heard better blues music. Nothing bad about it though. 2 stars.
Classic of the genre. I don't think there is an album that better encapsulates drunkenly singing late in the night with friends after much drinking has occurred.
Some classic irish tunes in there, like Dirty Old Town, but I don't really think of it as an Irish Folk album, more like a homage, that is well executed and entirely its own thing. I put this on every now and then. 4 stars.
As ambient music goes its good. Don't mind having that on. Its quite minimalist which makes it a bit boring, but its overall fine. There were a few interesting glimmers throughout but not enough to make me want to listen again. 2 stars
Its like someone took a mediocre prog rock album and then threw a bunch of dissonant sounds and background noises on top. Not pleasant to listen to.
What is even more frustrating is the odd interesting bit in there, ruined by weird sound effects. 1 star
Yes its YES, and a good one at that. I have heard this album a couple of times before and think its just delightful. I recall there's some story about a traveller coming from another world and something about eco-catastrophe. Who cares, the music sounds sublime. Just happy and peaceful and emotive. Good album, hopefully there's more YES on the list. 4 stars.
I know the famous Hallelujah and You Want it Darker, so was expecting the gravelly voice, and disappointed he didn't always sound like that. However the guitar playing is extremely cool and the songs do sound good. Teachers is probably my favourite 3 stars
This was good fun. The tracks sound similar to me and by the last quarter it sounded repetitive. But it was enjoyable would definitely put on again
Some good fun times
Some good fun times. I like Cool in the Pool. Not much else
Not much here interests me. Except hey ya. That's a banger. 1 star
Okayish britpop. Not offensive but does not excite me either
Not enjoying this.
Best album so far. I had no idea all these hits were a) Blondie b) on the same album.
One Way or Another and Heart of Glass are classics. The whole album has a good energy though and is immensely enjoyable.
Will be adding to my collection. 4.5 stars
