1001 Albums Summary

This album is such a soulful production. From really spiritual songs like To Zion to more bombastic upbeat tracks like Ex-Factor, there's a strong amount of variety here. I think I'm a bit less of a fan of the more straightforward sounding stuff like Final Hour (although I do think that track is clearly strong). I can see myself listening to it a lot more. Not every track is a banger but every track feels high effort with multiple melodies going on at once. I'm surprised how little I knew about Lauryn Hill until I heard this. I've heard the Ex-Factor sample so much!! I'm not really super comfortable with reviewing music yet as I'm still learning. 4/5 seems right when the alternative is 3/5. If I could do half-stars, I'd probably go with 3.5/5. Fav tracks: Ex-Factor, To Zion, Lost Ones, Forgive me Father

Fun, lighthearted and is reminiscent of what my idealized version of the 70s sounds like. Broken Spoke Shuffle is the surprise for me here. Wildly fun song. Idk if I'm being too generous but this is also an album i have a hard time giving a 3/5 to so I'll give it a 4. Its real cool. Fav tracks: Broken Spoke Shuffle, Green River, Glory Be, Bad Moon Rising.

Really impressed by this album. It has a ton of songs I just love to leave on and let play. The whole album is short and sweet at only 9 tracks in the deluxe edition. Fav tracks: StarShip Trooper and Clap

Some really experimental and vibey tracks make this one stand out for me. Extremely unique sound. I do find the singer's voice a bit grating in the popular songs like Shout or Everybody wants to Rule the World (although both are catchy). Fav tracks: Working Hours, Head Over Heels and Listen.

I'm pretty sure I heard some of these in Fallout games before. Not quite my style but I can see how this would have been a big deal.

It's rare that I listen to an album I enjoy so thoroughly from start to finish. Kendrick really cooked here. Spectacular production, technically strong rapping and just the overall of an instant classic. I've listened to this dozens of times as of writing this review and I plan to continue having this album on rotation.

Good lyrics. Heavy on the drum and bass. Clearly a foundational album for a lot of music that would come later. It's good but not quite my style. Fav songs: Welcome to the Terrordome, Fight the Power.

Way ahead of it's time. Easy to listen to, funky and energetic; no wonder I've heard some of these sampled before. Fav tracks; That Lady, Summer Breeze

Not quite my style - Some catchy parts but overall nothing here stood out to me. I'd listen to it again but I wouldn't seek it out.

Headphones don't do this album justice. It's weird and experimental and I really appreciated how layered the songs were. There's always like a ton going on. When i listened to the album again on my sound system, it really opened my eyes to how great it is. A "close your eyes and vibe" kind of experience.

A collection of fun thrashy anthems. I think as I get older, I find James Hetfeld's voice and the "house" sound of Metallica more grating than I did when I was younger. The most interesting stuff comes when they deviate from it. Orion is the easy highlight of the album and it has a Megadeth quality to it. Master of Puppets is a classic for a reason but I really find the second half of the song is what makes is stand out. I only listened through the album once so I'm happy to revisit once I give it a few more listens on the bigger sound system.

Technically impressive from front to back and incredibly energetic. What a fun collection of bops.

Creative as shit. An absolute joy from start to finish. The Twilight Zone is my highlight here but the whole album is an easy listen.

Didn't do much for me. He seems like a nice guy. The narrations are fun.

Pretty good. Overall, it was a pretty mellow album. The stretch from Pale Blue Eyes to I'm set Free was my fav. What Goes On is the only actually bad song in the album. I do not like it. Listened to this one 4 or 5 times. I could see it grow on me more. Looking forward to more from them eventually.

A strong start with both Take it Easy and Witchy Woman being incredible tone setters for the rest of the album. Surprised by how solid this was as it's their first album. Real good country rock. Easy listening.

This really had an Oasis vibe to it. So I wasn't surprised when I found out these guys were one of the main influences for the Oasis. There's a really amateurish nature to the album that I didn't really like at first but slowly grew on me a bit. She Bangs the Drums is such a fun song. That being said, I still found this pretty pleasant to just vibe to. It was fun to hear a sound that would get iterated on in one of the biggest bands in the world.

A fun listen with a few clear standouts. Moondance, Crazy Love and Into the Mystic are the clear standouts. The rest is solid enough though and I'll try to revisit it when I can.

At times really good and at times oddly grating, Bitte Orca is definitely not for everyone. There are a lot of sounds here that either took me a while to get used to, or I just straight up did not like. For most of the album, I was in between "i like this" and "this is way too weird for me". Ultimately, I do think it's decent. Useful Chamber and Stillness is the Move are the highlights for me here.
