One of the best albums of the seventies with a completely skipless tracklist. The title track “Maggot Brain” is a 10 minute guitar solo but manages to not drag on at all. Great psychedelic grooves throughout the album, the incredible production courtesy of band leader George Clinton, and how unique the album from anything else from that time (not counting other Parliament-Funkadelic album) are the main factors in why I think it’s a 5 star album.
All vocalists sound amazing, Lindsey Buckingham’s guitar work is clever as ever. Very well produced. Highlights for me include: “Storms”, “Sisters of the Moon”, “Over and Over”, and “Sara” amongst many others. Fantastic album and would be Fleetwood Mac’s best if not for “Rumours”.
This album kicks ass in so many ways. The guitar, bass, and drums on this album are fucking impeccable, and Bruce Dickinson was hungry with something to prove since this was his first album as a member of Iron Maiden replacing their original lead singer Paul Di’Anno. Definitely a highlight of the metal genre (like many other Maiden albums). Strong 9/10 for sure
Not much to be said, one of the best soul albums out there. 1967 was a stacked year for music released but this stands out as one of the best from that year, and “Respect” will forever be an absolute anthem.
Super impressive orchestral arrangements all over this album. Some slower, and some loud and lively. Overall great album.
I’ve never listened to any salsa albums before and this was a great first album for the genre. Fantastically enjoyable, album that has made me want to listen to more of this genre.
4.5/5 stars. All the songs are super cohesive and make for a great album experience. My favourite song is the intro “What Time Is Love?”, which is a super energetic edm track.
Pretty enjoyable folk/pop/art rock, with great songwriting. Instrumentally the album was very good too.
Very trippy, electronic based, psychedelic production. This album is a great vibe-setter for any chill environment. Highlights for me include “Opener”, “Ullswater”, and “Shortcomings”, but I enjoyed the whole album very much. I’ve never heard of this band before, and apparently I’ve been sleeping on them.
Not a bad album just slightly below average. A lot of the songs on here just come off to me as imitation The Beatles, which isn’t bad but it’s clear that The Who had not really found their sound yet. They would go on to make better albums.
A fine album. Alice Cooper is known for his outlandish lyricism so I knew what to expect when songs like “I Love the Dead” and “Raped and Freezin” came along in the tracklist. The main highlight for me was the song “Unfinished Sweet”.
Great singer-songwriter, indie album. Elliott Smith’s voice is so unique and recognizable and he was a great songwriter, which is on full display here. My favourite song is “Rose Parade”, but the songs “Pictures of Me”, “Punch of Judy”, and “Cupid’s Trick” are amazing aswell.
No. Just no. This album sucks. The lyrics are bad, the instrumentals are lacking, and it is too long for a Kid Rock album. The best song to me is “Fuck Off” just because of the great performance from a young Eminem. The song “Black Chick, White Guy” isn’t too bad either.
Very enjoyable album with incredible instrumentation, and inspirations from genres souls as blues, soul, new wave, and pop. Highlights for me are “This Is What She’s Like”, “One of Those Things”, and “The Waltz”.
I’ve been meaning to listen to this album for a while. Prior too, I had only heard the song “New York, I Love You But You’re Bringing Me Down” which is a great track and remains one of my favourites, but my favourite is “Time to Get Away” because I love the funky instrumental. Great record overall
Well produced album but I found a lot of the songs really dragged out way longer than they needed to, resulting in me getting pretty bored in the 75 minute length.
Lyrically and sonically great, and a great concept. Definitely a highlight of 2000’s indie music. Some of the many highlights for me include “In the Morning of the Magicians”, “Are You a Hypnotist?”, “Fight Test”, and “All We Have Is Now”.
God this album is fun to listen to, and slightly reminiscent of early Beatles work to me. Great instrumentally and lyrically, with great harmonies throughout. Loved every minute of the record.
Great progressive rock album, with outstanding guitar, piano, and vocals. My favourite song has remained “Baba O’Riley”, but “Bargain” and “My Wife” are big highlights for me aswell.
Such a snooze fest. There wasn’t anything instrumentally that I thought was slightly impressive. So boring. Drags on to the point of being unbearable at times. And WAY too fucking long.
Not a single skip on this record, I loved every second. This album if full of killer riffs and vocals. My favourite song was “Yeah We Know” but songs like “Freak Scene” amongst many others were strong competition. Great fucking album.
This album rips. The hard rock fused with operatic elements along with Meat Loaf’s amazing and unique voice made for a fantastic experience. The title track “Bat Out Of Hell” and “Two Out of Three Ain’t Bad” are my favourite songs.
That classic Aerosmith sound with elements of hard rock, blues, and metal. This is a great record. Steven Tyler (as always) sounds incredible, Joe Perry is ripping on the guitar, and Joey Kramer is amazingly pounding on those drums. “Last Child” is the biggest highlight for me but I also loved “Sick As A Dog” and “Home Tonight”
Undeniably one of the best double albums ever made, and has a brilliant concept. The lyrics and instrumentals are some of Pink Floyd’s best and there isn’t a song on here I think is less than great.
A relatively fun electronic album with lots of bouncy production and lively loops and vocal performances. I found some songs to drag on a bit more than they needed to but remained a fun album nevertheless.
Incredible album in so many ways. First of all, Freddie Mercury’s voice is fucking soaring throughout this whole 12 song tracklist. Brian May on the guitar is at his best with riffs and solos, and Roger Taylor on drums and John Deacon on bass are sounding amazing aswell. “Death On Two Legs” is my favourite Queen song, has been for a long time, and will not be changing any time soon. Great record without a dull moment.
A great display of the pure talent and charisma of the legendary Fela Kuti. He sounds so lively on this live album which is complimented with the fantastic instrumentation courtesy of his band Africa ‘70, and the legendary drummer Ginger Baker as a guest. The songs are pretty long but i didn’t find any to be too long except for the 16 minute drum solo that closes out the album, which is a great solo but just dragged on.
Some cool instrumentals here and there but Beck himself sounds weird with that Rap-centric delivery used throughout the album. Not bad by any means, just not great.
A great, and kinda underrated live album. Cheap Trick has a lot of charm and sound fantastic throughout this record.
Great riffs and solos all over this record paired with the unmatched mic presence of the legendary Iggy Pop. The intro track “Search and Destroy”, “Gimme Danger”, and “Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell” all stand out for me as highlights on the record, but I wouldn’t say any song on here was less than good. Also the 34 minute runtime makes the album a quick and easy listen.
Don’t really have much to say. It’s a great album at times but it really doesn’t need to be almost three hours long. Disc One is amazing, Disc Two is still great but not as good, and Disc Three was not that good. It’s still undeniably an essential listen and it is very well produced and written, just boring at times.
This album is so beautifully produced and written. Rod Stewart is known for his unique raspy voice which is on full display here. Every song is enjoyable, with my favourites being “(Find A) Reason to Believe”, and the big hit off the album, “Maggie May”. Overall outstanding record.
I’ve listened to this album so many times yet it never gets old. Easily Ye’s most experimental album with some elements working out better than others but it’s overall a super enjoyable album. The Chief Keef and Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon assisted “Hold My Liquor” is my personal favourite song on here and for me maybe a top 10 song Kanye West ever made.
Nu-Metal doesn’t get much better than this. Everything about this record is great: the hits, the deep cuts, the fantastic instrumentation, and of course the incredible chemistry between lead singer Chester Bennington and rapper Mike Shinoda. One of the best debut albums of the 2000’s. RIP Chester Bennington
I liked the bass lines and drum parts on some of these tracks but overall found the record to drag on a bit and get boring at times. Instrumentally solid, but lacked in keeping me engaged.
