Superunknown by Soundgarden
Jul 06 2026

I don't like Chris Cornells voice. I never have been able to get past it. His lyrics are great and sometimes the guitars leave the bluesy place they usually live at- otherwise I just can't. I really tried. When I was in middle school I was obsessed with "grunge" and would watch the movie Hype! Like everyday. I just couldn't ever get into Soundgarden. If I was at a show and the next band on sounded like this - I would go smoke.

Guero by Beck
Jul 13 2026

His last classic

Let's Stay Together by Al Green
Jul 18 2026

My favorite way horns have ever sounded on record

Take Me Apart by Kelela
Jul 20 2026

HEEELLLLLLL YEAAAAA Ok whoever put this on here is my friend. This is one of those records that defined the last decade for me. One of the ones that ppl in the future will truly remember and respect. Plus I was I my late mid 20s it was the late mid 20teens. In the Atlanta queer art community- noone was more a paragon of cool than Kelela. That time and place was defined by Kelela, FKA Twigs, Frank Ocean, Tinashe and Solange. I was a huge fan of her mixtape when it came out. Already a believer but this album just catapulted me into devotee. Everyone loved her music but the group think was all so hyped on the Knowles sisters that Kelela was kinda treated like a side chick. More for the nerds. Since her newest record New Avatar came out I feel like I've truly gotten to see her be admired on the big stage of public opinion and it really feels so good. She deserves it.

Electric Warrior by T. Rex
Jul 21 2026

Even if I thought "I don't need to listen to that album again. I may want to listen to something else for a change." As soon as it is on I remember that almost nothing is this perfect and satisfying all of the time/everytime.

Under Construction by Missy Elliott
Jul 22 2026

I mean I screamed for joy seeing this was the aotd. I was 12 when this album seized my life. I was already a huge fan. This had this insane history of culture that it boiled into and essence that created something that felt totally new and alien. Noone on the planet was like her. Missy and Bjork were to me the Women that I looked to in pop culture as my inspirations, leaders, the girls that I identified with and wanted to teach me everything. Missys sense of humor was mine too. The videos that came from this album were like volcanos erupting from the television to me. One of my favorite microtrends in music ever was the drumline trend in hip hop in 2002. This has that but also vocals in reverse and electrofunk samples and a full kaleidoscopic view of what hip-hop was is and should be. Everything ever at the same time if ypu want to because you can.

Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Jul 23 2026

You know I know it's cool and I wish I were cooler but I just I like everything that's going on sonically I think it is so good and so cool I just don't enjoy listening to it sadly it is a a burden that I'll have to bear forever I'm not cool enough for beefheart

The Clash by The Clash
Jul 25 2026

You know I've actually never spent any time with this album. Was always more into combat rock and sandanista. Listening to this I was seeing how they were doing a very hard edged version of what the power pop groups had been doing

Merriweather Post Pavilion by Animal Collective
Aug 07 2026

When this came out I was 18. Animal Collective were my favorite band going. I was embarrassed by this record. Because I hated it. It's just not at all where my head was at that age. Around that time I leaned heavily towards punk and garage and definitely not this. All of my favorite bands were putting out "bangers". Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Gossip, and now AC. I wasn't happy about that. Plus they're were a ton of Ani.al Collective wanna-bes. I needed to hear my boys do something crazy. Sonically it was so dense and cool. The lyrics were terrible. And very high in the mix. Very clean very audible. The worst people loved it. Now when I hear it- it's not bad. Not near as bad as I felt then. But damn I def still never like listening to it.

Lust For Life by Iggy Pop
Aug 08 2026

This album is like a member of my friend group. There's certain albums we all had on all the time and would party and blast and sing every word to. This is one of them.

Elephant by The White Stripes
Aug 12 2026

When I was 14 i was befriended by the cute skateboarder that sat next to me in drafting. I did his spainish homework one day. He thanked me by giving me this CD. I have loved this album ever since. I always wished they'd released black math as a single.
