In Rainbows by Radiohead
Jul 26 2026

The name-your-price download album. Certainly one of their best and most consistent albums. House of Cards is arguably the only weak track on it. 4.5/5

Drunk by Thundercat
Jul 27 2026

An almost perfect album where the sum of its parts is greater than the individual songs - but a real fun listen from start to finish. Funk & Jazz Fusion greatness! 4.5/5.

Jul 28 2026

Wah-wah, chacka-chaka, wah-wah... Sounds like a blaxploitation soundtrack made by Osibisa, Santana and Chicago. 3.5/5

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
Jul 30 2026

Fun explorative album, but lacking the song quality of Purple Rain. Excessive use of drum machine and synthesizers doesn't make this a great sounding album either, but it's overall sound grows on you. The length of the album is it's biggest flaw in my opinion. 3.5/5

Fleet Foxes by Fleet Foxes
Jul 31 2026

Totally unique sound combined with great songwriting. 4/5

Exile On Main Street by The Rolling Stones
Aug 01 2026

Their viscous branch of rock 'n' roll is like no other, and this is arguably The Stones at their peak. While the album is grooving like hell throughout, the really great songs are few and far between. 3.5/5.

The Madcap Laughs by Syd Barrett
Aug 02 2026

No way this is an album you ever need to hear, unless it's to illustrate how terrible music can get. Utter garbage... 1/5

Bug by Dinosaur Jr.
Aug 03 2026

Sound and musicianship isn't very good. This is the sound of teenage angst and probably irrelevant for anyone beyond that age or who wasn't a teenager when Dinosaur Jr hit the scene. Noisy rock not far from contemporaries My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth, but perhaps a bit more melodic. 2/5.

Raising Hell by Run-D.M.C.
Aug 04 2026

Walk This Way is the best track on the album, and that says something...

Fun House by The Stooges
Aug 05 2026

Influential, but not essential. Great riffin' on "Down on The Street". "Loose" sounds like an MC5 rip-off. Overall groovy album, but the songs are somewhat meandering and lack great hooks and original melodies. 3/5

Raw Power by The Stooges
Aug 06 2026

Better riffin' and better songwriting than previous albums. An early hard rockin' classic, even though the production is dreadful. 3/5.

Will The Circle Be Unbroken by Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Aug 07 2026

If you're in the mood for Bluegrass I'm sure this is great, but considering how many genres of music that isn't represented in the 1001, I find it hard to justify this as an essential listen.

In A Silent Way by Miles Davis
Aug 08 2026

Despite it's influence and torrents of accolades from music critics, this is one of my least favorite Miles Davis albums (and I've got them all). Side 1 is groovy, but meandering. Side 2 is more interesting musically, but still meandering. 3/5.

American Pie by Don McLean
Aug 09 2026

The title track and "Vincent" are good, but like most troubadour albums, it gets old fast.

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Aug 10 2026

Great album!

Dirt by Alice In Chains
Aug 11 2026

Maybe the definitive Grunge album if there is such a thing.

The Soft Bulletin by The Flaming Lips
Aug 12 2026

Warner Bros. Records doesn't want me to listen to this album as my CD player doesn't like their copy protection. 1/5.

Caetano Veloso by Caetano Veloso
Aug 13 2026

Influential Tropicália album. Interesting, but not much more...

Private Dancer by Tina Turner
Aug 14 2026

The hits are great, the rest mediocre - especially the covers of The Beatles, David Bowie and The Animals. The Al Green and Ann Peebles tunes were tastefully done though.

Odessey And Oracle by The Zombies
Aug 15 2026

One of the very best pop albums of the 1960s.

Call of the Valley by Shivkumar Sharma
Aug 17 2026

One might question why this is included in the 1001 Albums list that hardly include any album with traditional, folk or classical music. Heck, there is hardly any jazz in the 1001-list which makes up most of the great albums released before the late 1960s. Arguably the album had some influence on the psychedelic movement, but it feels out of place, especially considering all the "world music" that should then have been included. It seems quite pointless to even rank this album alongside Elvis Presley and The Beatles...

Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf
Aug 18 2026

Bruce Springsteen meets Andrew Lloyd Webber. It's a good album, but it hasn't aged well. The artwork seems out of place and unconnected to the music, but it proved influential as a template for 80s heavy metal cover art.

Reggatta De Blanc by The Police
Aug 19 2026

Mushy fusion of reggae, power pop and punk. The hits are alright, but radio has played them to death. No thanks.

Don't Stand Me Down by Dexys Midnight Runners
Aug 20 2026

Sounds like a high school band. Dreadful.
