I’m a Neil Young fan, but this is not his finest work in my opinion. A couple good songs, but some not so good ones. Quite depressing actually. Some of this music is very “The Band” like. Neil Young is a guy with a very unique voice, and quite talented…. But I’d like to take all his good songs and put them in one place, because there are a few really bad ones as well.
Like all things Bowie… a bit weird. Always feels like music you are supposed to like, but are always trying to figure out. Some good songs , but a bit more techno than I like.
Tough listen for a 70’s rock guy. Tried to be open minded, but really didn’t care for it. A couple songs ok, but just not my genre.
Not my cup of tea, but I respect the work. I liked it better than I thought I would.
Have to give this a 5 as the best Beatles album. Lots of good songs…. Improved production value. I rate the Beatles as one of my top 5 bands, so I have to give what is arguably their best album a 5. There are songs on other albums I like more, but the whole work here is their best.
Spa music. Not unpleasant… but has no role on this list. Giving it one star not because I don’t like it, but there is nothing unique about it. Background music to a massage in my opinion.
Was hoping for great things here with 3 outstanding singers. However, felt like Dolly wanted to relive her old Porter Waggoner days with this very old style country. Just feel like if they would have pushed it a little, this could have been great. For me , just ok.
I like some Elvis. He’s an important artist and you have to remember this is over 65 years ago. This is not his best album or his worst. Giving it 4 stars because I appreciate the music and his place in the history of rock and roll. Plus - he’s just got a great voice!
I made through an hour of my first rap album. Wasn’t quite as horrible as I thought, but I’m definitely not the right demographic for this genre. A couple good songs and some not so good. I’m giving it 3 stars as kind of a middle ground between what I really think vs what it probably deserves.
True confession - around 1984 I attended 3 Yes concerts and am a huge fan. Honestly- these guys are incredible musicians and Jon Anderson has one of the most distinctive voices in rock. That said, this is not necessarily their best overall album although it has a couple absolute classics.
Enjoyable listen. Hard for me to say “it’s great”. I liked the mono version of some of the songs. And Jeff Beck is sort of legendary. I would give it 3.5 stars.
Enjoyed most of the tracks. Actually listened to it twice. This isn’t in my normal listening library but maybe it should be.
Very disappointing. One good song - most of the rest of it I’d categorize as just weird. I always have the feeling I’m missing something- like Bowie would be the smartest guy in the room. Don’t get this album - giving it two stars instead of one because it’s Bowie.
Not a fan of this genre and don’t really see how you can be. Kind of terrible. One redeeming quality was it didnt last long. Moving on….
Ok - a lot of sameness. I like the concept and it was ok to listen to, but kept wanting a bit more.
I liked it. Thought the production was great and many of the tracks quite clever with some throwbacks. Never going to choose rap as a go to - but if I did - this would be one I’d listen to.
Ahh - just no. Felt like what it was - a bunch of love songs written in a hurry. Vocals always felt like he was searching for a note he couldn’t find. Made it through much of it, but just not a good effort.
Didn’t really know there was an official “electronics” genre. Hard to understand how somebody thinks this is great. Manufactured music that seems like it belongs on a movie soundtrack or game. Giving it a kind 2 rating.
The Who are in my Top 5 and this and Who’s Next are probably their best 2 albums. This is kind of a masterpiece when you consider the whole idea of it. Not just a bunch of singles but a true concept album. Anyway - good to hear it again all the way through.
Feel like you need to listen to this music while watching the dance routine video. I like a few of the songs although I would not categorize anything here as break through. Most of the Jacksons are very talented - Janet is no exception.
When growing up east of Cleveland - radio was limited to primarily AM. We got a heavy dose of CKLW Detroit motor city from across the lake - especially at night. Motown was big on the playlist so Al Green and others were very familiar to me. Some great old music here. Nice to listen to!
Worst so far. I want to meet the person who enjoys this. I had to listen to 60 minutes of Yacht Rock to undo the damage.
Wasn’t sure what to expect here, but was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed most of it. He’s a believer in long songs apparently. Anyway - I ended up listening to it twice and except for the entirely too long sax solo in one of the songs- it was a very good album.
Also - you know you are going to get different when you are listening to an artist that named his kids Moon Unit and Dweezil. 😀
Not my cup of tea. Nothing against folk rock, but didn’t really enjoy this.
I like Kate Bush. She’s different, but a great voice and an innovator. Kind of like a female Bowie. I liked many of the songs - some not so much. Hope we get to hear more of her music.
Loved every minute of this 1964 classic. Sure - it doesn’t necessarily push the envelope, but the songs are catchy and fun. Long time ago folks, and at the time - there was nothing like this. I’m almost talking myself into a 5, but will leave it a very solid 4. Not sure how you don’t like this albums!
Wow - so this is Glam Rock? Not sure if it’s all a joke or it’s suppose to be serious?? In any case - lyrics are terrible, music not bad … so I give it a 2. No need to listen again.
Really liked it. Not totally in love with the singers voice, but the music was great. A nice find I had never heard of. Surprised these guys didn’t make it bigger, they are obviously talented and the music piece was enjoyable. I found myself moving a little faster on my morning walk!!
Not his best work, but ok. In this case a little Bruce goes a long way. Liked The Rising, but almost have to deduct point for songs like Let’s be Friends. I’m not a giant Bruce fan, but will give this a 3 star.
Almost a 5. Hey hey, My my gives it a 4 instantly. One really great song, but there are some others particularly on side 1. Not as big a fan of the side 2 stuff, but still ok. I kind of view Neil Young like Bob Dylan…. Except I really like Neil Young.
A wise man told me, “dad, if I don’t know what to do with something I just give it a 3.” I will follow that sage advice here. Did I like it - No. Was it way too long - Yes! A couple good songs, but mostly not. The formula seems to be depressing, thought provoking poetry with a choir ending. Oh well, this fellow seems to have a big following and perhaps I just don’t appreciate his greatness. In any case, it gets a generous 3 from me.
Liked it, but nothing special. I do like the Kinks, and this was a very long time ago. Reminded me somewhat of kind of a Beatles lite. Anyway - hopefully more Ray Davies headed our way at some point.
The Talking Heads are a ground breaking type group. Lots of good music being produced in the 70’s but nothing like this. Their first studio album produced in the year I graduated from college. Enjoyed it all. Love David Byrne…. I could watch his videos all day. And Tina Weymouth is perhaps the best female bass guitar player ever. She’s also fun to watch. Bit of trivia - Tina is married to Chris Frantz the drummer…. Since 1977 and still married. By my math -almost 50 years of marriage playing in the same rock and roll band. Wow!!
Good album. I’ve never listened to a complete Elvis Costello album before, just miscellaneous songs. He’s easy to listen to, seemed like very good production, and some thoughtful lyrics. Good find.
Some really good songs on this one. Being an ex-advertising guy, I also appreciated the concept. “I can see for miles” was one of my first favorite songs 100 years ago so it brings back fond memories. Better Who albums out there, but this is still a good one.
Hard to understand what gets this album on the list. Need representation from Australia? I didn’t hate it, but am having a hard time understanding what sets it apart. Not in the same class as much of the other music we’ve been listening to.
Easy listen and enjoyable, although I think listening to this on a boat in the Caribbean would make it even better. Great voice and you gotta love the sax. Smooth Operator gets the notoriety here, but several other good songs. It’s definitely on the Yacht Rock playlist!

The nostalgia style felt a bit contrived. I know I’m in the minority, but I just didn’t love it.
Well - he’s unique I guess. If you like monotone, droning… sometimes hip hop, sometimes resembling a song ….it’s for you. Not for me, however. I did listen to the whole thing, but will not again.
Never heard of Elliott Smith before this listen, but I rather enjoyed the album. Nice, when you get something better than expected. Not sure what sets it apart, but the writing, singing, and production all seemed solid. I’d listen to him again.
I have to kind of grade this on a curve because Apple didn’t have this specific album on iTunes. So, I just listened to a compilation of his his stuff and got the idea. This is not my music of choice, but I understand why it’s on the list and importance. Ramblin Jack has been around a long time ( still alive! ), and rambling is kind of an appropriate name! Still - I learned something and appreciate his place in music history.
Why? Why is this on the list? Is it terrible - no. But there is nothing outstanding here. I don’t see it as great or influential by any measure. I honestly couldn’t wait til it was over!
Liked it - but felt very ordinary 70’s ish to me. I have no strong feelings about the album. Some good songs - some not so good…. But they started feeling similar in style. Didn’t know these guys were Irish so that’s interesting. Anyway - probably heard all the Thin Lizzy I need to.
Not even 100 albums in and we already have 3 Neil Young albums. This is a great one. Harvest Moon is considered his best, but this is a close second. An album that contains Southern Man has to get 5 stars. Great songwriting with several recognizable tunes from yesterday. I know some don’t like his voice, but it’s unique and I enjoy listening to his work.
I like Janis from time to time. Certainly some iconic songs. I feel she’s slightly overrated, but most critics love her music. Can’t quite give it a 5. (Always enjoy the Mercedes Benz song!)
I think Alice Cooper was best enjoyed live back in the day. Album is fine, not great. I enjoyed many of the cuts, but I found it a bit uneven.
I like a concept album. This is a good one. Not my favorite PF album, but it’s got some good songs. Dark Side of the Moon is a 5….this is a 4. Solid - just not epic.
New Rave???? No thanks - not for me. Sounds like completely engineered music. Miraculously I listened to the whole album on a run. I kept thinking if I run faster it will end! Let’s move on.
This was terrible. I hung in there as long as I could, but it was tough. As far as I can tell the only thing Skip has going for him is a likeable last name :)
Well - not sure what to do with this one. I get the guy was only 19 and played all the instruments, but can’t say it is a listen I’d return to. I appreciate the work and its inclusion, but it’s all a little weird. Do you suppose if Christopher Walken heard the album, he’d say “I need more Tubular bells!”?

Harry was ok, despite the coconut song. Nothing terrible, but nothing great. I guess he was good friends with John Lennon which is kind of cool, but doesn’t really get him on any preferred musical status with me.

Like many, I kind of struggle to know what to do with music that is probably good, but just isn’t your favorite genre. That’s how I feel about this. I actually thought the music was pretty good, but wow those vocals were terrible. Based on all that - I give this a 3…. Maybe 3.5.

Just when you are about to give up on this list, you uncover a little gem like this. Great? No - but fun to listen to. I enjoyed it - kind of Rolling Stones lite.
If this is the best we have from the 2010 and beyond, we are truly in a musical desert. There is nothing bad about it, but also nothing great. Most of the time I felt I could be wandering around in a mall furniture store with this playing quietly in the background.
Really great. Joni Mitchell and Carole King are the two greatest female singer songwriters of our generation. This album is kind of poetry set to music. You can’t listen to it without diving into the lyrics and understanding. The best album we’ve had so far.
Another British group/album I’ve never heard of. I guess this list is causing me to broaden my listening scope. That said - vocals were bad, and I didn’t think anything was outstanding about it. A couple tracks were ok, but for the most part, I didn’t care for it.
Odd. Interesting. I guess I see why it’s on the list, but not sure I’d return to it. Not horrible, but not great. Almost felt like it was trying to be different just to be different.
Enjoyed it. I gave Tommy a 5, so of course I liked this as well. I do understand the debate about whether this influenced Pete Townsend, but no need to get into all that. Considering the time period, this seems rather groundbreaking.
