Classic banga
Rip
I dont like it as much as funeral but its aight
Still really good
I enjoy a beastie moment
They cloned thom yorke and killed the clone right after this album (banger)
I truly cannot find anything all that special about the XX, their music sounds to me like it was created to be in advertisements for resorts you see at airports or maybe like sigma edits on youtube.
This is one o my quintessential nostalgia albums and i think it holds up quite well
Its michael jackson i feel like you cant really go wrong (except for the sharing bed with kids thing thats bad). Still such an energetic and fun album
Really enjoy the instrumentals here.
Some of the vocals are nice- the rest of them are the annoying whiny shout tone that ruled this era of rock and will always ruin my day.
Feels like theres some fun stuff here but i cant get past the fact that much of it feels like an album Charlie from Always Sunny would create (but better instrumentals). I liked the overture a lot.
Overall relatively basic but in an enjoyable way. This kinda mellow country is nice. The Weatherman is fun, Mary dont go round is also very cool. Overall a good background listen but just nothing mind blowing.
Absolutely excels at being super moody. Never listened through the album in its entirety before.
Spoonman balls out to be honest.
The vocals sometimes dip into a whininess that annoys me in the high register but not enough to pull me out of a song.
A lot of the instrumentals do well at blending into the background while still having a noticable and standout sound. Dont know if that makes sense.
I would give it 3.5 if that was an option. Good album to work out or drink aggressively to
Its ok, some songs i liked a fair amount and some fun vocals at points. It does sometimes feel edgy in a very teenaged angry kid way.
Might just be a bad mood day but i just didnt love this other than secret girl and shadow of a doubt
I wrote a whole thing of listening notes but they disappeared.
I enjoyed this one a fair amount i just thing the beastie boys are dumb fun. I enjoy the instrumentals being pretty minimal in that they are typically just drums, bass, and occasional stings from other instruments. Nothing super special lyrically but its so fun to listen to. Another 3.5 graded 4
Found the instrumentals to be extremely nice across the album, though some songs were better in that regard than others (Peace Frog). I think some of the vocals and lyrics were neat while others i think were bafflingly bad (Blue Sunday). Didnt feel extremely cohesive to me, instrumentals were really the highlight.
Only on the second song but first impression; this rocks? Really enjoying the sound of the leads and drums. Vocals arent consistently my favorite (they hit the whine that puts me off from 80s rock someimes) but they fit well with the sound this band is doing imo.
Lyrics generally are pretty wacky and great. Sometimes very prosey and sometimes heavily goofy or satirical.
Hard to pick out favorites but Be Sweet, Debonair, and My Curse all stuck with me pretty well.
I did not care for I Keep Coming Back. Felt like the major big miss of the album.
Not very into house as a genre but admittedly this is pretty catchy, and has some pretty sweet synths and samples.
I think this album is probably quite fun in club or house party environments. My biggest issue is how repetetive it feels at times. Many of the songs repeat about twice as long as they need to. Same old show could be 2 minutes long but they just needed me to hear that moan sample 40 times.
I think Stop 4 Love is the most interesting to me.
Super stank face album.
Keys on this were genuinely so cool. I enjoyed the listen a whole lot especially I Got My Brand On You and Goodby Newport Blues.
Im not super well versed in blues this just sounds cool and every song was interesting and fun
I love this album. I know it can feel a little disjointed but i enjoy the left hooks it takes (like eternal life, especially coming out of Corpus Cristi Carol).
Jeff buckley did well at straddling the line between soulful and sad and angry. I love his voice and though the instrumentals arent necessarily the most groundbreaking but i do think some of the production on this album is a bit ahead of the 90s. Like a poppier james blake.
Ill always be heartbroken that we wont be able to see what else Buckley would do with music. I think there was so much creativity that this album just touched the surface of.
Maybe objectively its lower but this album will always be a 5 to me.
Favorites include Lover You Should Have Come Over (duh), Mojo Pin, and Dream Brother
I like this album. I feel like its Bowie before peak bombastic-ness, and the hits here are hits for a reason. Changes and Life On Mars still have an awesome sound. Queen Bitch is also a super fun one. Most of the songs on this album sound both alt and anthemic and thats a line i think bowie did very well at walking. Bewlay brothers is a really nice closer. I like when the instrumentals blend very solid acoustic sounds with a very spacy backing or rhythm guitar.
Pretty interesting album. Feel like you could draw a direct line between early electronische synths and the sounds in the first few songs of the album. I was mostly captivated by the instrumentals. Kicks off with a lot of neat synth and sequencer sounds before steering into more of a rock sound and finally melding them together more. Really fun and enjoyable stuff. The vocals were nice but i didnt have the chance to read along the french translations so unsure of the lyric use for the most part but enjoyed what i heard. The whole album feels very mildly disjointed but in a sort of precise way like a very pretty patchwork quilt.
Overall really enjoyed the listen through but dont see myself pulling many of these songs up individually.
Nothing extremely standout on this album to me. I liked My Back Pages the most. It may be just preference but this all sounds pretty tonally identical to me and just didn't pull me in.
Its alright, i found the first half of the album more fun than the second. Nothing i found particularly interesting on this one but some pretty nice background music.
