Larks' Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson

Ohhh, finally! An album that I already listened complete before I started this challenge! Ok, so let's start by saying that King Crimson is my favourite band. Like, not just my favourite prog rock band, my favourite band of ALL times alongside The Beatles, Queen and Black Sabbath. Each of its albums, except for In The Wake of Poseidon, are extremely different from each other and almost feel like they were made by different bands, and they technically are, since the lineup of the project has changed thousands of times, the only constant member being Robert Fripp. And from all of their studio albums, LTIA is definitely one of the weirdest ones, but it has some of the most talented musicians working on it, namely Jamie Muir and Bill Bruford, and many others. Even though this is not my favourite album of King Crimson (I would put it in fifth or sixth place in a ranking) it is still a great and hugely influential album, mixing classic prog rock with world music, neo-classical sounds, heavy metal and possibly one of the earliest prog metal and avant-garde metal songs in history: the Larks' Tongues in Aspics suite, which has five parts, that span four albums and 30 years in the making. It is possible that bands like TOOL or Dream Theater would have never existed without this album so I guess that deserves at least four stars. Screw it, the album cover is my profile photo of Discord, I'll give it five stars

Searching For The Young Soul Rebels by Dexys Midnight Runners

I can't pin point what it is, but there's just something special in this album. The ska and Talking Heads vibes, the talent of these young musicians, the general "mood". I don't know why, but this whole album filled me up with overwhelming joy.

Trio by Dolly Parton

The crossover we didn't knew we needed between three of the best female country singers. This album is pure magic, every song is a banger and both the voices and the instrumentation are beautiful.

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead

Even tho it's not The Bends or OK Computer, this album is really good, and I find it to be extremely overlooked compared to other Radiohead LPs, which is a shame

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul

What a fun listen! This album is cited in this site for being of the called "Golden Age of Hip Hop" for a good reason. With a very original concept, a great sense of humour and the incorporation of many different genres from funk to rap rock, this album is a true masterpiece. My only issue is: why tf isn't this album on Spotify? It's so sad that this fun piece of hip hop history hadn't made it to the biggest music streaming service.

Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane
Aug 27 2022

Good album, but I wasn't a fan of the sound quality. I think Jefferson Airplane is a great band, but it's not something that I would listen on my free time.

Aug 28 2022

Idk how big are in their country, but at least in mine (which isn't an English speaking country), Elbow doesn't seem to be a well known band. Oasis and Blur were definitely the most popular britpop bands but, Elbow? I don't think anyone would recognise then. So, I listened to this album without knowing what this band was like, and I didn't know what to expect. Holy cow This album blew my mind. The combination of classical music and alt-rock is one that I particularly like. The lyrics gave me a nostalgic but melancholic vibe at the same time, like a teenagers memories of growing in a poor neighborhood. The last song, "Friend of Ours", made me burst into tears, but more or less all of the tracks managed to send a chill down my spine. This album is a hidden gem, and I think anyone should give it a listen at least once in their lives.

Street Life by The Crusaders
Aug 29 2022

This album is the definition of "short and sweet". With only 6 songs (yeah, the first one lasts eleven minutes, but I'm a jam band and prog rock/metal fan so I'm accustomed to long songs) this album is short enough to listen to it in less than an hour. I listened to this to make my homework, and then I was like, "huh, it's over?". The first song, "Street Life" is very beautiful, same for the next one "My Lady". Unfortunately, aside from the two songs I mentioned (and maybe, "Night Faces" too), the other half of the album failed to impress me, which is sad since I really like this kind of jazz.

3 Feet High and Rising by De La Soul
Aug 30 2022

What a fun listen! This album is cited in this site for being of the called "Golden Age of Hip Hop" for a good reason. With a very original concept, a great sense of humour and the incorporation of many different genres from funk to rap rock, this album is a true masterpiece. My only issue is: why tf isn't this album on Spotify? It's so sad that this fun piece of hip hop history hadn't made it to the biggest music streaming service.

The Doors by The Doors
Aug 31 2022

This album is a huge trip. From the rock 'n' roll inspired "Break on Through (To the other side)" to the psychedelic 12-minute trip of "The End", this is probably one of the best debut albums in history. This album is the reason why even more than 50 years after Jim Morrison's death we still miss him. Just imagine what things he could do if he got to old age!

Debut by Björk
Sep 01 2022

One of the best debut albums in history (pun intended), the transition between genres is so smooth is unbelievable. This album is full of iconic songs, none of them feel like filler or out of place, and they're all amazing largely thanks to Björk's breathtaking voice and energy.

The Hissing Of Summer Lawns by Joni Mitchell
Sep 02 2022

Although I appreciate Joni Mitchell as a singer and composer, this album wasn't of my liking. It was not bad, it was just extremely boring and forgettable. I don't remember any song title or even a single note, and despite being only a bit shorter than 40 minutes, I was wishing for it to end since at least the third song. Not for me, sorry

Back At The Chicken Shack by Jimmy Smith
Sep 03 2022

Nothing big to see here, just a big ol' happy funk jazz album. And in the really rainy day that was yesterday, when I listened to this album, that's all that I needed :)

The Man Who by Travis
Sep 04 2022

Travis is one of those "sold millions of albums but you don't know anyone who owns one" band. This album is like if you mixed Radiohead, Keane, Elton John, Harry Styles and Coldplay and took everything that makes all of these musicians work. It could easily have been a nice but forgettable cheesy soft rock album and we would all be alright. But nooo, instead they tried SO hard to make it "unique" and, "different" and "experimental", a "not like the other boys" album (ironically, this exact phrase is mentioned in one of the songs). They tried to write excessively poetic and quirky lyrics, but instead the lyrics came out as cringy and edgy, like the ramblings of a teenager. Their attempts to experiment with other genres are laughable (like the "psychedelic" second half of the album, or the failed 10 min final song "Slide Show"). The instrumentals and rythm are extremely boring. The only reasons why I'm not giving this album 1 star are: a) The singer's voice is really good and he clearly seems talentend b) There are still some pretty decent songs, like "Driftwood" and "The Fear"

Pacific Ocean Blue by Dennis Wilson
Sep 05 2022

I had doubts about this album due to its reviews. The first song "River Song" surprised me. It was very good! However, as the songs keep going, they only keep getting worse and worse. It was almost like Dennis' voice and energy was dying more and more with each song. I was dissapointed, and ready to give a negative review to this album. And then the first instrumental song, "Holy Man", came in. And it was so good! Then, "Mexico" another instrumental, even more breathtaking than the previous one. And I'm like, that was it! Clearly, Dennis' talent was always more the composition rather than the singing part. I found myself enjoying the instrumental and limited lyrics songs more than the other ones. Unfortunately, the majority of the songs weren't like that. But my opinion of the album definitely improved during the second half. I still have my issues with the album, like it's unnecessarily big length. The whole Beach Boys discography is still better than this album, but that doesn't make it bad at all.

Homework by Daft Punk
Sep 07 2022

Although not as good as Discovery or Random Access Memories, Homework is still a very solid album and has some absolute bangers, like "Around the World", "Da Funk" and "Phoenix". However, since it is a debut album, it definitely suffers from early installment weirdness, and it is obvious that the Daft Punk duo hasn't found a style yet. Still, this album is quite good, and a must in every party. I miss Daft Punk... :(

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
Sep 08 2022

This album is proof that Prince was actually a genius. Mixing rock, pop, r&b, disco and funk in such a organic way, all of the songs of this record are classics, there's not a single bad song in the whole album, none feels forced or out of place. This album was released during the time were Michael Jackson was in his peak of popularity, and you can definitely hear his influence on this album in songs like "Play in the Sunshine". I don't know why, but I can also sense a certain James Brown influence too, specially in the more "funky" songs. In short, this album is just great.

Lady Soul by Aretha Franklin
Sep 09 2022

Aretha Franklin is an absolute queen. The songs of this album are all still classics even decades after their creation, and some of their messages even hold on today. Still, the soul genre as a whole is not something I like to consume everyday.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Sep 10 2022

The Smiths are a band that I only knew by name before listening to this album, so I didn't knew what to expect. Honestly, I quite liked it, it is clearly punk/new wave, yes, but it also has a certain early indie feel to it. Unfortunately, the album is far from perfect, and many of the songs weren't my thing, but I really liked the title track

Junkyard by The Birthday Party
Sep 11 2022

What is this album genre? Because for me, it feels like an extremely weird mix of proto-new wave, hardcore punk, noise rock, heavy metal (or possibly even doom metal) and even some surf rock elements. Uhh... Let's say that it's a very niche taste, and if you like this album, that's completely fine! But it's not for me, although I recognize that musically, it is not that bad. However, I honestly don't see a reason of why would this album be included on this list, aside from having Nick Cave's name on it.

The Köln Concert by Keith Jarrett
Sep 12 2022

This album is the proof that jazz doesn't need huge bands or extreme complexity to be good. Sometimes, a man messing around with a piano can create some of the most beautiful jazz sounds ever. Bravo Keith!

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Sep 13 2022

I'm... Conflicted about this album. I can't tell if I like it or not. Musically and lyrically it is good, but for me? I left me indeferent. And since I'm rating from a subjective point of view... Well...

At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
Sep 14 2022

Probably one of the best live albums I've heard. I love how the audience participation is just as important as Johnny's performance (which needless to say, it is really good), and is so funny to see how they interact with, cheer and joke around in a way that feels almost personal. Johnny also seems to have a lot of fun, singing the prisoners' own compositions and cracking up jokes ("please don't say s****, this is being recorded!" *proceeds to sing about a man killing his wife because of his cocaine addiction*) 10/10, I wish I was a male prisoner in 1968...

Hail To the Thief by Radiohead
Sep 15 2022

Even tho it's not The Bends or OK Computer, this album is really good, and I find it to be extremely overlooked compared to other Radiohead LPs, which is a shame

Harvest by Neil Young
Sep 16 2022

Beautiful!

Shake Your Money Maker by The Black Crowes
Sep 17 2022

From a decade when the dominant music genres were hair metal, grunge and britpop, a Led Zeppelin-esque blues rock album (although with some hints of alternative rock, more typical of that era) was definitely a surprise, but a welcome one!

The Blueprint by JAY Z
Sep 18 2022

This album has some of the best beats by JAY-Z... But some of his worst lyrics too. So uh... I guess it's a perfect balance?

Searching For The Young Soul Rebels by Dexys Midnight Runners
Sep 19 2022

I can't pin point what it is, but there's just something special in this album. The ska and Talking Heads vibes, the talent of these young musicians, the general "mood". I don't know why, but this whole album filled me up with overwhelming joy.

Transformer by Lou Reed
Sep 21 2022

One of my all-time faves. I mean, any album produced by Bowie is guaranteed to be great, but this one has a special place in my heart. RIP Lou Reed.

Stardust by Willie Nelson
Sep 22 2022

I don't know who were the authors of almost all of these songs, but these covers were extremely beautiful! I think I can't give this album 5 stars, since some of the songs were a bit forgettable, but it is a record than can be definitely listened over and over. Also, the cover art is pretty iconic.

In It For The Money by Supergrass
Sep 23 2022

I was excited to give another five stars these weeks, and behold, here they are! This album is very enjoyable from beginning to end. I didn't check the genres at first and thought that this was going to be folk or something but no! It's pure britpop and indie rock insanity, the good kind! It sounds like if a Beatles tribute band suddenly decided to play alternative music, and turned out better than it was expected! 4.6/5

The Suburbs by Arcade Fire
Sep 24 2022

This album does many things right, but I must highlight the brilliant use of strings on many songs, that wasn't something I expected!

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Sep 25 2022

It was not bad but it was definitely less enjoyable than the other Smiths' album that was generated here before (The Queen is Dead).

Tapestry by Carole King
Sep 26 2022

I had doubts about this album since so far, many of the female singer-songwriter folk albums given to me by this page weren't particularly of my liking. Fortunately, this album managed to break that "curse", with extremely good lyrics and a beautiful voice. Also, it has a cute cat in the cover :D

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Sep 27 2022

5/5. This album is not only one of the best Gorillaz albums and debut albums in general, it is also a modern classic and I'm glad that it has a place in this list.

Yank Crime by Drive Like Jehu
Sep 28 2022

This has been a good week for me on 1001 albums generator. A lot of 4s, a lot of 5s, the page keeps giving me good albums, and as soon as I've heard that virtuoso but punk-ish riff at the beginning of "Here Comes the Rome Plows" I was like, "oh crap, this is going to be good!" And it was. This is basically emo mathcore and honestly, I'm digging it in a way I didn't expect. This album confirms my theory that, if I were born in a different decade, I would've been an emo, lol.

Machine Gun Etiquette by The Damned
Sep 29 2022

A fast-paced but surprisingly heartwarming punk album, I liked it.

Vauxhall And I by Morrissey
Sep 30 2022

Idk if recently learning that Morrissey is an asshole had something to do with it, but anyways, this album was a huge disappointment. I don't remember any song or remarkable thing about it, aside from them being bad. Also, his voice is particularly more annoying here than in his Smiths' albums.

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Oct 01 2022

An absolute classic that blends acid folk, hard rock and heavy prog in a really cool way, but honestly, its songs tend to be kind of hit or miss. However the hit ones really hit HARD.

GREY Area by Little Simz
Oct 02 2022

This album was a huge surprise. I knew nothing about Little Simz before this, and despite not being a perfect album, it definitely turned me into a fan.

Space Ritual by Hawkwind
Oct 03 2022

I've been always obsessed with all things related to space. Space travel? Cool. Space operas? Awesome. Space ROCK??? Hell yeah!!! I actually started getting into this weird, almost forgotten subgenre shortly before discovering this page, and I listened to Doremi Fasol Latido (many of the songs of that album are also present here). So I was really excited when another Hawkwind album popped up here! Now, Space Ritual is definitely not an album for anyone. A lot of people are going to hate it, and that's fair. It's basically a bizarre voyage on drugs across the black corridor of space. It is crude, it is trippy and it's long... Really long. But if you make it to the end, you'll be rewarded with a weird sense of catharsis. At least that's what I felt when listening to the final track. 5/5, I would listen to it again.

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Oct 04 2022

It's not a bad album but idk, I feel it lacks something...

Oct 05 2022

Although I didn't like all the songs of the album, I recognize its huge influence on the gangsta rap scene. In Da Club is a classic.

Low by David Bowie
Oct 06 2022

Bowie casually making post-rock before post-rock was even a thing, chad.

Penance Soiree by The Icarus Line
Oct 07 2022

I mean, it was alright, like... The use of noise in music is something that can be really good, but I don't think this band did it well. It also seems like they don't know what their style is, so it's really weird.

Scott 2 by Scott Walker
Oct 09 2022

Pretty good, not an all time fave but I still managed to like it a lot

Os Mutantes by Os Mutantes
Oct 10 2022

A really fun album, a bit beatle-esque and also very experimental... Perhaps too much. It does tend to feel over the place and confusing at times but it's really fun nevertheless.

Time Out by The Dave Brubeck Quartet
Oct 11 2022

Although I don't know anything about music theory, I definitely noticed the"odd" times signatures of this album, that gave it that distinctive, neo-classical sound, that I really liked.

The Slider by T. Rex
Oct 12 2022

A great album from a great band, T. Rex is glammy and loud as hell, but it isn't afraid to be experimental and take a lot of risks occasionally. This album, with its mix of folk, glam rock, early heavy metal and space music, is a great proof of the band's creativity.

Armed Forces by Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Oct 13 2022

Really fun album. A classic, full of witty lyrics, nothing that hasn't been said before really.

Born To Run by Bruce Springsteen
Oct 14 2022

Good album, far from being a masterpiece tho. A lot of the songs are really good, but they occasionally feel bland.

Trio by Dolly Parton
Oct 15 2022

The crossover we didn't knew we needed between three of the best female country singers. This album is pure magic, every song is a banger and both the voices and the instrumentation are beautiful.

Oct 16 2022

This album is a classic, but well, a lot of the songs lyrics didn't age well at all lol. Except for F*ck the Police, that just got even truer with time.

Unhalfbricking by Fairport Convention
Oct 17 2022

An album and a band I heard nothing about before, and yet, they ended up surprising me.

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Oct 18 2022

A really fun album, with really witty lyrics and it has some of my favourites songs from the Beasties.

Pink Flag by Wire
Oct 19 2022

A powerful and awesome punk album, although you can start to notice how in this era most of these bands were starting to migrate to the post-punk genre, which is not a bad thing at all!

New Boots And Panties by Ian Dury
Oct 20 2022

Really nice mix of genres, but the album often feels too long to the point is tiring. The first half is fine, but I heavily preferred the second half, with its more punk-ish sound.

Here, My Dear by Marvin Gaye
Oct 21 2022

i can't believe that I wasted 1 hour and 13 minutes of my life hearing a guy rant about his divorce...

Shaft by Isaac Hayes
Oct 22 2022

I feel that without the context of the film, this album just feels bland and doesn't make sense, just like any other film soundtracks with some exceptions. I didn't dislike it that much tho, it has a very cool progressive soul sound.

Treasure by Cocteau Twins
Oct 23 2022

How was this album made in the early 80s? It feels so ahead of it's time, specially in its production quality. It is such a beautiful, soothing album. The onlyproblem I have with it is that some songs drag out for too long.

Green Onions by Booker T. & The MG's
Oct 24 2022

I didn't expect to like this album that much but here we are. I loved how it mixed rock, R&B and jazz in such an organic way. The cover of Twist and Shout by The Beatles was awesome.

Oct 25 2022

I've never been a fan of Lana Del Rey. Yes, she has a beautiful voice but I've always found her lyrics to be kinda cringey, and trying too hard to be aesthetic. Neverthless, this album was actually quite good, with an amazing instrumentation and vocal performance.

All Directions by The Temptations
Oct 26 2022

Great album, a bit awkward at times, but very funky and groovy.

Larks' Tongues In Aspic by King Crimson
Oct 27 2022

Ohhh, finally! An album that I already listened complete before I started this challenge! Ok, so let's start by saying that King Crimson is my favourite band. Like, not just my favourite prog rock band, my favourite band of ALL times alongside The Beatles, Queen and Black Sabbath. It is possible that bands like TOOL or Dream Theater would have never existed without this album so I guess that deserves at least four stars. Screw it, the album cover is my profile photo of Discord, I'll give it five stars

Hounds Of Love by Kate Bush
Oct 28 2022

I love this album! It makes me feel like I'm a Celtic witch running across the forest along with wolves and birds. That's the only way I can explain how I feel about it...

Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness by The Smashing Pumpkins
Oct 29 2022

Great album, a bit disorganised at times and definitely longer than it should be, but still extremely memorable and full of excellent songs.

evermore by Taylor Swift
Oct 30 2022

This was my favourite album of 2020, so I'm glad to see it on this list. You can definetly feel how Taylor has matured both as a song writer and as a person in her most recent albums. And "evermore" is a great proof of this, exploring more mature and deep themes and relationships. Aside from that, it has a surprisingly good instrumentation for a pop album. Overall, it is perfect.

Oct 31 2022

The Byrds in general aren't exactly my thing (except for their more jangle pop and raga stuff), but I do recognize the importance of this album, and it overall doesn't have any bad songs, just forgettable ones. You Ain't Going Nowhere is cool, and Pretty Polly is severely underrated.

The Band by The Band
Nov 01 2022

Really cool blend of blues, country and rock. Still not as good as Music From The Big Pink.

Water From An Ancient Well by Abdullah Ibrahim
Nov 02 2022

I never listened to African jazz before so I didn't know what to expect, but I ended up liking this record a lot! It is both funky and soothing at times, and overall, very well produced

Dance Mania by Tito Puente
Nov 03 2022

It's unfair to compare this album to many others on this list, since this is definitely music meant to be danced to, not listened to. Still, really fun album.

Post Orgasmic Chill by Skunk Anansie
Nov 04 2022

Didn't know much about the band before, but really I liked this album. It mixes all the music genres that were popular in the 90s in a way that doesn't feel forced or pretentious.

Songs For Swingin' Lovers! by Frank Sinatra
Nov 05 2022

It has swing, it has love, and it has songs for swingin' lovers, what else can i ask for?

Nov 06 2022

I never could get int Simple Minds honestly. My mom loves them but i think it's just because of nostalgia. This album was pretty boring, all the songs sounded exactly the same, the lyrics are quite bad and it overall feels really dated. The only people that could like this album are Simple Minds fans, people who reeeally like new wave, nostalgic Gen X people and Tik Tok teenagers that feel that they were "born in the wrong generation".

Dirt by Alice In Chains
Nov 07 2022

Easily one of darkest, most crude grunge albums. I don't think I can listen to it complete again tho.

Frank by Amy Winehouse
Nov 08 2022

Not my favourite album of her, but it was worth it just for her beautiful voice. Amy had what was probably the best voice of the 21st century. It's so sad that she had to die so young, she had a lot of potential to have a decade spanning career. Don't take drugs kids...

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
Nov 09 2022

Does the term "space punk" exist? That's the only way I could describe how Joy Division's music is like. This album was basically a perfect debut, and marked the start of the post-punk movement alongside many other contemporary and previous albums. I love this record, it is accessible and funky while also being 100% punk and borrowing from experimental genres like industrial. Definitily has a place on this list.

Nilsson Schmilsson by Harry Nilsson
Nov 10 2022

What a impressive musician! You can definitely see how Harry Nilsson influenced the Beatles and many other bands with this album.

Very by Pet Shop Boys
Nov 11 2022

I'm a fan of the Pet Shop Boys and although this is not my favourite album of theirs, I love its artsy and more aggressive vibe.

Bridge Over Troubled Water by Simon & Garfunkel
Nov 12 2022

Such a beautiful, well crafted album, and the perfect closure for the best duo in all of music history.

Out of Step by Minor Threat
Nov 14 2022

This is a perfect example of how a hardcore punk album should be. Fast paced, short, politically incorrect, aggressive and with an extremely cheap production. It's still not as good as "First Two Seven Inches" though

Goo by Sonic Youth
Nov 17 2022

This is one of Sonic Youth's most accessible albums, but that doesn't mean that it is an easy listen. Still, if you want to enter the world of this legendary but strange band, this is definitely a must listen.

Nov 19 2022

Even though my native tongue belongs to the same family as French, I still couldn't anything about it. But damn, I love songs in French! The sound and tone of this language suits hip hop extremely well. This was a pretty good album, not life changing, but still cool. A lot of the songs are forgettable, but there aren't many bad songs per se. The jazz and swing instrumentation and MC Solaar's flow were surely the best part of the album.

Metallica by Metallica
Nov 24 2022

The last great album of Metallica! Yes, it strays a little bit from the conventional thrash metal sound of them, opting for adopting a more traditional heavy metal style, and I know that many people don't like it because of that but c'mon, it is good heavy metal! Most of Metallica's greatest hits are here, but there are also some really underrated gems. If you want to start listening to metal, this is a really good place to start. Still, it is not Metallica's best album, but it is still really good

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground

The Velvet Underground! It was just a matter of time that I would stumble across one of their albums in this list. If somebody asks what's the best place to start getting into their music, a lot of people would be tempted to say "The Velvet Underground & Nico", and although it's not a bad choice (it is the album that personally I started with), I still think that there are many tracks of that album that are too experimental for people that aren't rock fans. My first recomendation for a person that isn't too deep into underground genres (yet ;) ) would be this album. It is a lot more poppier and tamer than other releases of them, and on top of that, it is an excellent album by itself! New fans will be attracted by the writing style of Lou Reed and the catchiness of the songs, but they can also get a little look at their more experimental songs with "The Murder Mistery". This is not my favourite VU album (that place goes to "White Light/White Heat", an album that I would NOT recommend to everyone), but it is still a really solid, well done album, that I can listen over again and again without getting tired.

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Dec 05 2022

One of he greatest, most influential albums of all time! Everything about this album is iconic, its sound, its genre-mashing and innovative nature, Nico, The Velvet Underground's members, its bizarreness... All of this topped by having one of the most iconic album covers of all time, designed by no other than Andy Warhol himself.

Even though I love both Sinatra and Tom Jobin, this album was pretty dissapointing. I was accustomed to hearing most of these songs in Portuguese, even when performed by non-Brazilians, so hearing them being sung in English was kinda weird, but that's not the problem. The problem is that Sinatra simply cannot adapt to bossa nova, and he's often heard visibly struggling with it in a way that's distracting, not relaxing.

Roots by Sepultura

This is not my favourite Sepultura album, but I still think is great. There are some absolute top tier groove metal and latin metal here (even though I think the combination of Brazilian rythms and metal was better executedin Chaos A.D.). Idk why this and so many metal albums are ranked so low tho, are people in this page allergic to metal?

This is easily one of my favourites albums not only from rock history, but from music history in general. I listened to all of King Crimson's discography, and while it is full of perfect albums, I still think that no one could surpass the greatness of their debut. Everything about this record is just on point: the lyrics, the guitar, the orchestral and jazz arrangements, the percussion, Greg Lake's theatrical vocals... "21st Century Schizoid Man", despite having limited lyrics, still remains as one of the most brutal and aggressive anti-war songs, and so does "Epitaph". "I Talk To The Wind" and "The Court of The Crimson King" still give me the same chills that I got the first time that I listened to them. Even "Moonchild", the weakest track on the album, is still a very solid song. If you liked this album, I heavily recommend checking out the rest ofKing Crimson's huge discography. Seriously, if you thought this album was insane, believe me when I tell you that the rest of their music becomes even more batshit crazy as they evolve. Despite never achieving mainstream success, this band managed to have a huge influence and/pr be a pioneer in genres such as prog rock, prog metal, avant-garde metal, jazz rock, experimental rock, prog folk, math rock, industrial, industrial rock/metal, post-progressive and even perhaps new wave (looking at you, 80s albums...) and post-rock (looking at you "Starless"...). If you like any band of these genres, their band members probably listened to King Crimson. Or perhaps they listened to Rush instead. Or maybe both...
