I don't consider myself to be a huge fan of 1960s pop rock, but there's really nothing to dislike about this album. It's easy, cozy listening with a strong track list and no real "skip" songs, although equally none stuck out as a new favourite for me. My top 5 tracks (in no particular order): Last of the Steam-Powered Trains, All of my Friends Were There, Animal Farm, Big Sky, and Village Green.
A solid Beatles album, I appreciate their experimentation with sound and how cohesive the tracks felt. My personal top 5 favorite tracks (in no particular order): Eleanor Rigby, Love You To, Taxman, For No One, and Doctor Robert.
Not my typical genre, but it's a solid album that's an easy and enjoyable listen, although some tracks did go on a little long for my taste. My top 5 tracks (in no particular order): She's Bought a Hat Like Princess Maria, Mr. Churchill Says, Yes Sir, No Sir, Brainwashed, Shangri-La.
This one was a chore to get throug. There were a few elements that peaked my interest but they didn't do enough with them to boost the rating much. 3 most tolerable songs (in no particular order): East St. Louis Toodle-Oo, Through With Buzz, With a Gun
The lyrics are poignant and I like a lot of the songs individually, but taken as a whole the album really starts to drag after a while and becomes a bit of a chore to get through. 2.5
Good vibes, but several songs were a few minutes longer than they had any right being.
I never would have listened to this much Guns N' Roses voluntarily because they remind me too much of my tacky ass swim coach who made us listen to them during practice, but the album was arite I guess. Top three tracks (in no particular order): Mr. Brownstone, My Michelle, and Paradise City.
This album is actually proof to me that I don't hate this genre, just the bands that I have been forced to listen to for most of my life. There were a few lowpoints that I had to force myself not to skip, but overall a solid listen. Favourite tracks (in no particular order): Hard to handle, Thick n Thin, She Talks to Angels, and Jealous Again.
Obviously a classic and it keeps the energy going all the way through, even with the slower songs which is commendable. I've never considered myself much of a Michael Jackson fan and I don't go out of my way to listen to his music but I admit I found this album enjoyable, especially to listen to while I'm working. My personal favourite tracks (in no particular order): Dirty Diana, Smooth Criminal, and Leave Me Alone. 3.5
Loved this album, just bop after bop. Favourite tracks (in no particular order): Under the Boardwalk, My Perfect Cousin, What's With Terry, There Goes Norman, and Boys Will Be Boys. 4.5
Strong album and I love the social/political commentary. I've never really listened to much reggae and listening to this genuinely showed me that I should amend that which is honestly a big part of why I even started this project to begin with. Favourite tracks (in no particular order): Jordan River, Slavery Days, Marcus Garvey, and The Invasion.
I thought I hated jazz, but apparently I just haven't been listening to the right jazz. This was genuinely a joy to listen to.
I can see why so many people really hated this album, but I genuinely enjoyed it. I was debating giving a 3.5 because it does get repetitive at times, but I found jamming along too cathartic to give anything lower than a 4 and I love the message behind the album. Favourite tracks (in no particular order): Multinational Corporations, Caught...in a Dream, Control, Deceiver.
Overall this album felt pretty generic to me musically, although Lorde's vocals never disappointed, however Liability, Sober II (Melodrama), and Writer in the Dark are exceptional and honestly deserved to be on a stronger album
There were aspects of this album that I really liked, but when taken as a whole it just fell flat. I genuinely love music that has a lot of interesting and even disperate things going on but this album really seemed to take that idea and make it boring somehow? I did really like she found now though
I absolutely love this beautiful mess of an album and I love more every time I listen to it. Top tracks: Evil Speakers, They're Not Witches, (I Wanna Be A) Dumbcharger, Pimple Zoo, and Always Crush Me.
Genuinely just a pleasant listen. Top tracks: Them Belly Full (But We Hungry), Rebel Music (3 O'clock Roadblock), and Am-a-Do.
While I respect the musicality of it, this is the exact kind of jazz that I can't stand so this album was a chore to get through.
This was an absolute chore to get through, every single song was longer than it needed to be and listening to them all back to back was monotonous and grating
Not my usual kind of music, but you simply can't deny the pipes on Little Richard, his vocals were simply amazing throughout. While I appreciated the energy, by halfway through everything kinda started to feel same-y and I found myself getting a little bored. Top tracks: Tutti Frutti, Miss Ann, and Oh Why?
Absolutely loved this album, even if there were a few rough patches I'll probably skip on future listenings the highs definitely make up for the few slightly low moments. Top tracks: Green Shirt, Goon Squad, Moods for Moderns, and Two Little Hitlers.
Nothing that really stands out as amazing, but equally nothing to hate, I did really appreciate the storytelling though, that's not something you see in music a lot anymore. Bonus points for how nostalgic it made me because my grandpa absolutely loved old country western music. Best tracks: Big Iron, They're Hanging Me Tonight, Billy the Kid, El Paso
I've liked all of the Ice Cube tracks I've heard before and now after listening to this album I'm kicking myself for not doing so earlier, genuinely a great listening experience. Best tracks: When Will They Shoot?, Wicked, Who Got the Camera?, Say Hi to the Bad Guy.
Somewhat hit or miss, but the highs were incredibly hight and the lows were still enjoyable to listen to. A few songs went on a little long, but the vibes were solid so I definitely didn't mind it. Top tracks: Smooth Operator, Hang On to Your Love, and Sally.
A pleasant enough listen, nothing amazing but I also never wanted to turn it off. Best songs: Atlantic City, Highway Patrolman, and My Father's House.
I can't put my finger on why I just didn't like this album, I liked all the pieces individually (the music, the vocals, the lyrics, etc) but there's just something about them all coming together that just felt bland... Best tracks were Bound to Fall and Move Around.
This was so close to being a 5, but it lost me a bit with the last song. Overall a great album that somehow manages to explore a ton of genres without ever losing it's cohesiveness, the songs had enough variety between them that even when there was one I didn't like as much the next song completely, keeping anything from feeling like a drag. If I could give a 4.5 I would. Best tracks: Moribund the Burgermeister, Excuse Me, and Down The Dulce Vita.
A really solid electronica album, nothing that blew my mind but a great album for listening to while working. Top tracks: One Love, Blue Lines, 5 Man Army
I absolutely loved every single moment of this, I can't believe I'd never listened to the Slits before because they're definitely a new favourite! I love how rough around the edges everything is and how genuine each moment seems. Top tracks: So Tough, Shoplifting, Ping Pong Affair, and Typical Girls
There's just something about a woman singing folk that I can't help but love. The vocals are so clear and beautiful and the guitar is simple but compliments her voice perfectly. Top tracks: Donna Donna, Rake and Rambling Boy, Henry Martin, and El Preso Numero Nueve.
I absolutely adored the quirky weirdness of this album. The vocals are a little off, but in a way that actually feels totally appropriate for the vibe they were going for and the music was absolutely amazing the entire time. I can't say O'Malley's Bar is a good song per se, but it was an absolute treat that only gets better on relistens, they absolutely earned that 14 minutes. Best tracks: Lovely Creature, Where the Wild Roses Grow, The Curse of Millhaven, O'Malley's Bar, and Death is Not the End.
Wholly generic and uninteresting, but also inoffensive. Not one single piece of this album was memorable with the exception of the "secret track" which I actually quite enjoyed, where was that pithy delivery and irreverent tone for the rest of the album?? Best tracks: 'Hello Sir' and I guess Killing Me
It's alright, nothing amazing and I wasn't always a huge fan of the vocals, but the instrumental sections were great. Some of the songs were really longer than they needed to be and started to feel like they were dragging on. Best tracks: Dishes, Help the Aged, TV Movie, and Like a Friend.
The musicality on this album was great, it's really too bad that it was so boring. Best track: You know it's true
Solid music and an enjoyable listen, nothing that really blew me away but definitely something I'd be happy to listen to again. Favourite tracks: Set the House Ablaze, Dream Time, and Boy About Town.
While I don't like this one quite as much as Murder Ballads, there is no denying just how beautiful this album is. Best tracks: Spinning Song, Night Raid, Galleon Ship, and Leviathan
A great album with amazing musicality and great musical diversity! Kept me invested the whole time. Best tracks: Believe, Who's to Blame, Saturday Night, Dejame En Paz, and Ya Viene El Sol
Absolutely lovely album, good vibes the whole way through. Gorgeous vocals, great instrumentation, and manages to be cohesive while still keeping each track fresh. Top tracks: Court and Spark, Free Man in Paris, The Same Situation, Raised on Robbery, and Twisted.
There's the core of a great album here but unfortunately a lot of it gets lost for me with a lot of the songs just being overdone. I think if just a few extra elements had been edited down/out this would have been a 4 or even a 5 for me, but as it stands it's just been buried in too much extra stuff. Best tracks: Spike Island, Getting Bright at Night, White Devil, and Seasick
I always thought I hated sappy love songs, but this album has taught me that apparently it was just because I couldn't relate to them. This album is full of cheesy, sappy, sapphic love songs and my gay heart has never been so happy. Lang's absolutely gorgeous vocals certainly don't hurt either. Best tracks: So it Shall Be, Still Thrives This Love, Season of Hollow Soul, and Outside Myself.
A fun album with a lot of interesting sounds going on. Not a new favourite by any means, but a genuinely enjoyable listen that I can see myself going back to. Best tracks: Fuck Shit Up, Chicken Dog, Rocketship, and Hot Shit.
Wonderful folky album! Best tracks: White Winter Hymnal, Ragged Wood, Tiger Mountain Peasant Song, Your Protector, and Meadowlarks
It was alright, musically sound, but there was just something missing. Best tracks: Mr. Soul and Bluebird
I think I would have liked this album if just about every song had been half the length. Best tracks: My Feet Keep Dancing and Will You Cry (When You Hear This Song)
This album was a total slog and I was tempted to skip multiple songs out of sheer boredom with them. John Barleycorn was the only highlight in the whole album and even that went on a little too long in my opinion.
Great listen, will definitely be checking out more from PJ Harvey! Best tracks: O Stella, Victory, Sheela-Na-Gig, and Plants and Rags
Pretty much a perfect album, if I could rate higher than I 5 I would. I can't do a best tracks because I honestly don't think I could choose just a few, the whole album is just so well done.
I loved each song individually, but the album as a whole is a little to chaotic to get a full 5 stars from me. Top tracks: Turkish Song of the Damned, Bottle of Smoke, Streets of Sorrow/Birmingham Six, and South Australia
Enjoyable enough and interesting to see where so many other bands that I listen to regularly got some of their influence, but a lot of the songs just overstayed their welcome. On more than one occasion I found myself enjoying a song, spacing out a bit, refocusing, and realizing "wait, this song is still playing". Best Tracks: Loose and L.A. Blues.
I think I might like a different album by Gillian Welch, but this specific one was just a little boring to me as a whole. Best tracks: My First Lover and Ruination Day Pt. 2
As someone who isn't typically a fan of psychedelic rock I was pleasantly surprised by this album and will definitely be checking out more T. Rex because this album absolutely slaps. Best tracks: Jeepster, Lean Woman Blues, Girl, Motivator, and Rip Off.
Not a genre I usually listen to, but this album is definitely solid. I must admit it was a little weird hearing a track with Kanye on the Dave Chappelle show considering the modern climate around those two, but the track itself was pretty alright. Best tracks: Be (Intro), The Corner, Testify, and It's Your World.
Amazing album, I can't believe I didn't know this band existed, especially since I recognized one of the songs from Shrek! Best tracks: Novocaine For the Soul, Susan's House, Guest List, Spunky, and Manchild.
At least it was short...
Best tracks: Get What 'Cha Got and Go
When I saw this album started with a 20 minute song I audibly groaned, but I was pleasantly surprised by this album. Last song doesn't fit though.
I typically make it a point to listen all the way through an album before rating it, even if I'm not really enjoying it, but this one I just couldn't do. I made it through three songs and just couldn't do anymore. It's very musically competent, there's just something about the genre that I simply cannot stand.
Absolutely amazing album with a dark and romantic tone that's just...*chef's kiss*. I especially adored the use of the orchestral score, it was just gorgeous and complimented Cohen's vocals so well. Top tracks: You Want it Darker, Treaty, Traveling Light, and String Reprise/Treaty.
I liked this album more than I thought I would, the use of strings was especially great and really pushed it over the edge from 3 stars to 4 for me. Best tracks: A House is Not a Motel, Andmoreagain, Old Man, and The Red Telephone.
Lost me a little bit towards the end, but overall an amazing album that I'll definitely be listening to again. The vocals are off the charts and the lyrics and instrumentation were super solid. Best tracks: Dancing Choose, Family Tree, Shout Me Out, Stork & Owl, and DLZ.
Soul is one of my least favourite genres, so I never would have listened to this album on my own and I probably wouldn't listen to it again. The vocals were amazing, the instrumentation was solid, and the vibes were good, but it's just not for me. Best tracks: La-La For You and How Can You Mend a Broken Heart.
Soul just really isn't the genre for me, although I'm sure this album is great if you do like it
I like Bob Dylan overall, but through listening to this I've discovered I like him better in small doses. This album definitely dragged a bit as a whole, although most of the songs were solid individually. Best tracks: She Belongs to Me, Outlaw Blues, On the Road Again, It's Alright Ma.
Not my favourite Smashing Pumpkins album, but still a solid listen. Top Tracks: Geek U.S.A., Disarm, Rocket, Today, and Cherub Rock.
Solid and thoroughly enjoyable early punk album. Top tracks: I just can't be happy today, Anti-Pope, and Liar.
Incredibly mid album. Not offensive but not memorable either, the one exception being Friday's Dust which is entirely too good for this meh album.
I generally make a point to not skip through songs, but so many on this album are just way. too. long. Without the overly long songs this album would just be mid, but having to skip songs halfway through for my sanity pulls it down. Best tracks: Sign O the Times, Strange Relationship, and The Cross.
Not perfect, but solidly enjoyable. Best tracks: In the Mouth A Desert, Conduit For Sale, Zürich is Stained, Flame Throwa, and Our Singer.
Solid album, I especially love the guitar and other instrumentals, but not really my thing personally.
I don't typically like long, mellow rock albums like this, but there's just something so endearing about this one. The music was phenomenal and even with the length of the tracks it never dragged in the way similar albums have for me. Top tracks: Moon Child and The Court of the Crimson King.
It's a good thing I really like this album because I think my family would disown me if I gave it anything less than a 5 XD. Best tracks: Something, Maxwell's Silver Hammer, Oh! Darling, Octopus's Garden, and Because.
This is probably the best Country Rock album I've ever heard, and I mean that derogatorily. I did really like Goodbye's All We've Got Left though
While there were several songs that were just meh for me, the ones that I like are so good I couldn't possibly justify giving this any less than 4 stars. Top tracks: Happenings Ten Years Time Ago, Farewell, Ever Since the World Began, and Over Under Sideways Down
A majority of this album is not available on Spotify and based on the few songs that are I don't really think it's worth tracking down the rest of them. Not my vibe.
I mean, it's Frank Sinatra, it's inoffensive. I don't really care for crooner music but if I've gotta listen to it Sinatra is the best.
This album is absolutely terrible in the best possible way, definitely one of my new favourites!
Nothing but good vibes, listening is like hanging out with a group of friends and just jamming together having fun.
