Nighthawks At The Diner
Tom WaitsOh so good. It doesn't get better than "...get more tail than a toilet seat." Tom Waits is an underappreciated savant and the general public should really become more familiar with him.

For me Coldplay is the U2 of their generation, and I like them just about as much. I just don't get them.
So I found myself really liking this album but about 2/3 of the way I was like "How long is this thing?" I'll come back to it for sure but will need to pull out the tracks I really like or enjoy in smaller doses. 3.5 which I'll round up to 4.
A couple solid tracks and overall I like this group but after a while I'm like "when will it end?"
Unknown Pleasures indeed! Prior to this I didn't know this group existed and I have to say I liked it. I can see the linkage between this group and how it influenced future musicians.
So I didn't make notes as I listened, shame on me. Overall I liked it but didn't love it
This was great background music for working. I would put this on again the next time I need background music.
I have listened to Sarah Vaughan before, and I like her, but this one was just Ok.
I guess it's OK...
Better than expected. A little too mellow at times but can see the influence on groups like Phish. Overall I'm glad I listened to it.
It's clear how this album influenced future bands. Most of it was great, there were a few tunes that didn't really do it for me but I can see how those tunes influenced future bands I really enjoy.
So I really enjoyed half this album. The other half was not my favorite but...I am glad to have listened to it.
This was truly great, I enjoyed every track all the way through.
A good time for sure. Takes me back to hanging out with my Grandma and listening to her favorite albums from yesteryear.
Overall a great album, I can't believe I never listened to it the whole way through. I've heard all the songs in various anthologies but there's something special about listening to the album as originally intended. Here are some notes by track: 1. Tax Man - One of my all time favorites, always listen to it when doing my taxes 2. Eleanor Rigby - Brings back memories of a 45 on my Fisher Price record player when I was 6 years old 3. I'm only sleeping - Lazy/Crazy, what a great rhyme 4. Love you to - Not my favorite, could do without it 5. Here, there and everywhere - Not bad, decidedly 60's 6. Yellow Submarine - See #2, it was the flip side 7. She said, she said - Not bad 8. Good day sunshine - It makes me smile 9. And your bird can sing - I like it 10. For no one - This is a great song about broken heart denial 11. Dr Robert - I zoned out for this one 12. I want to tell you - Thumbs up 13. Got to get you into my life - Love it! 14. Tomorrow never knows - Trippy
This really reminded me of the guy who sings Love Power in the Producers. Overall it was good, I can see how it influenced future musicians.
Ummm...I tried really hard to listen to the whole thing but yeah...that didn't happen. Not my cup of tea for sure.
Oh so good. It doesn't get better than "...get more tail than a toilet seat." Tom Waits is an underappreciated savant and the general public should really become more familiar with him.
Ok, again, I liked half. I had to give up about an hour in, the Amazon version of this album is 2 hours long and about an hour in is where it became a lot of noise. I do see how select tracks influenced future artists.
The flow is so good. I really enjoyed this.
At points it became a cacophony of noise that hurt my ears but for the most part I liked it. Kudos to the system for selecting it.
Definitely music to work by. I found myself enjoying the groove but wanted it to be less mellow. All in all a good listen.
I am ashamed to admit I never listened to a Cure album before. This was really good and something I will definitely come back to again.
OK...I hate to admit I listened to this one a lot in my much younger days, but probably haven't listened to it for 30 years or more. Overall it's not bad but once you get past the radio hits I don't feel like it's anything special. So...3* for me.
Oh my virgin ears! While I found some of the lyrics to be unnecessarily descriptive I found the beats and flow to be delightful. I imagine this is a good window into the world Notorious experienced around him. Overall an excellent album
I can see how this album influenced some groups I love but I didn't live it. Maybe I'm just having a bad day, perhaps I'll give it a listen at a future date.
This was great. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. I can't explain why, I just dug it.
I mean it's Elvis doing Elvis. I always enjoy a good cover of Fever and a few of the songs got my toes tapping but all in all...meh.
I was very excited for this because who doesn't love rock n roll flute. I was surprised that all of the Jethro Tull songs I love were on this album, it makes me wonder about the Greatest Hits and Best Of compilations from over the years...
This was... trippy? I don't know what I really expected but it wasn't this. Overall it was good but I don't know if I'll come back to it anytime soon.
Ok, without even listening this album gets 3 stars for the first two tracks but after that point it didn't really take me anywhere else. I'm a big fan of Clapton but I think it's clear why I was only familiar with 2 of the songs. I would listen again but I think I'd rather just pull out Crossroads and listen to those versions.
For what it is it's good but it's not what I prefer. I'd be lying if I said I listened to the whole thing but I'm still giving it 3*. It's good for what it is, I'm not going to over penalize for personal preference.
This was cool! The fusion of various music styles was a lot of fun. I would definitely listen to most of this album again.
In my heart and soul I am a blues man through and through. This album spoke to my heart and soul. It was soooo good.
I've been a fan of Muddy Waters and the blues all my life. This album just makes me smile.
Ummm...I know I should like this but I just didn't dig it. Someone will be revoking my child of the 90s card.
I dug this. I don't have the words to speak like a true audiophile but it was good. I would give it another listen for sure.
This was very theatrical. I was only familiar with Track 1 but found myself enjoying the rest. I feel like Alice Cooper may have been that weird drummer in marching band who also did theater and was always the center of attention, but in a band nerd/theater nerd kind of way. For the record those are my people so no offense meant.
You can't go wrong with Led Zeppelin although I am ashamed to admit I have not sought out their complete albums. This was a great listen and I'm glad the 1001 had us listen to it.
This has always been one of my favorite albums of all time. I can literally sing every line. Solid 5 in my book.
Ok, so admittedly I am not a huge country fan but I've listened enough to know good from bad. This is good. More importantly I can clearly see how this influenced many female artists to come, even those not in the country genre. I don't know that I'd seek this album out again but I might. It's worth a 4 because of the respect I have for Dolly's influence on the future of music.
Ummm...OK. I didn't hate it but didn't love it either. Definitely not something I'd seek out again.
I don't know if I'd go back to this but I'm glad I listened to it
I have always enjoyed this album. Amy brought a new take to a classic sound that influenced many artists to come after her. What's interesting is I think she rekindled a passion for a classic sound. We need more artists like her.
Do you remember when this group was hailed as the next Beatles?! Listening to it now I have to ask why people thought that. Other than the radio tracks it's just OK. I swear I liked this more...maybe older ears just don't like whiny British rock anymore. Anyway...it's OK.
This is a solid and enjoyable album. I enjoyed every minute.
I tried to get through it all, I really did. I couldn't. I'm sure there's an audience for this. I am not that audience.
It had me until the very end of the very last track, than I was like WTF? But I won't let that ruin it for me. All in a very enjoyable listen. I could see myself coming back to it some day.
Listening to this album makes me understand why they make Greatest Hits albums. Overall it was fine but not something I'll go back to anytime soon.
This is good stuff. That is all.
Meh...I couldn't even get through it. The overuse of synthesizer was giving me a headache. I will say I can see how it influenced music to come but not worth the time to finish it.
This was so good, at no point did I think "when will it end". Next time I need some high powered rock I will come back to it.
I dug it.
I don't know that I'll come back to this but it was great background music for work. I enjoyed it.
At times a bit whiny but overall excellent. I can see why Bob Dylan is considered so influential.
This was decent. Not great and it wouldn't be my first choice but I can see it's appeal.
Ok, I can see how it influenced more modern music, perhaps...but not for me.
Ahhhh...much better. We are back on track. I enjoyed the atmosphere this album set as I dealt with problematic flood insurance issues. I'd listen to it again some day.
I only ever listened to Bittersweet Symphony. The entire album was good. It reminded me a bit of the Beatles. I would listen to it again. Although more likely I'll just put Bittersweet Symphony in a play list.
My first complete Bowie album. It will not be my last!
Good, not great. That is all.
So I listened to the whole thing then forgot to make notes. It was ok but not great.
These guys are probably the grandfathers of hip-hop and it's good to hear the early sounds of the genre. For me it's better than most of the new stuff I hear. I'm not going to say I'm the biggest fan but I know what I like and I like this.
While the other Flaming Lips album was just meh this one was great. I don't have the eloquence of some so I can't describe why, I just really enjoyed it.
Other than the 2 songs that get radio play I found this record underwhelming. I've never been a big U2 fan and this album didn't really change my opinion.
Good beats, good flow. I'd be lying if I said I really listened to the lyrics, this was background music while I worked. Overall I would consider listening again if I was in the mood for this genre.
I really wanted to enjoy this one more but all I can say is "it was ok". Solid 3 at best.
Beautifully hypnotic is how I would categorize this. I won't return to it but I'm glad to have listened to it.
Well that was interesting... I can appreciate it's influence and can see how some others may like it but it's not my favorite.
I didn't understand the words but it just made me happy. Music should invoke a feeling and this definitely does that. I don't know if I'll seek it out again but I really enjoyed it.
For me Coldplay is the U2 of their generation, and I like them just about as much. I just don't get them.
I went into this not knowing what to expect. I was familiar with the radio release but had never listened to anything beyond that. Overall it was fine, I really enjoyed the cover of War Pigs, but I don't know that I'll seek it out beyond adding Epic and War Pigs to a play list.
This is one of the roots of rock and roll. Ironically I think every song on the album is a cover but you can see how the sound influenced everything to come. 4 stars for me!
Mellow and good. Decidedly a product of it's time. As with many of these albums I probably won't come back to it but I'm glad to have experienced it.
Ok, I didn't understand a word and frankly I don't care. This album grabbed me from the first note and I will definitely be revisiting it.
Are you a fan of the Muppets? If so then you'll easily recognize how this album sounds like Electric Mayhem, or should I say influenced Electric Mayhem. I really enjoyed this, I especially found it interesting how this went from rock to blues to country to folk. The early 70s were really an interesting time when music was what you wanted to play and bands could cross into whatever genre felt right in the moment. I liked this one a lot
I was not familiar with Dennis Wilson but after listening to this I think I should be. It was a good listen and contained a bit of everything I like. There was a point though where I was like "is this done soon" so while it was good I'm knocking off a star for length.
This was surprising for me. I really enjoyed the story telling aspect of the album. I don't know that I would have ever willingly listened to a Willie Nelson album, maybe I'll give a couple more a try. I think I would go 3.5, which rounds to 4.
This was so good! I heard how it influenced so much of the music I love. Full disclosure I never pay attention to the content of the lyrics, just the feel of the music.
Not what I expected but enjoyable nonetheless. A great lesson in "you can't judge a book by it's cover." I thought for sure this would be bluegrass.
Finally got to listen to this. There's a reason Bob Dylan is considered one of the grants. I will be listening again someday.
Perhaps I'm just grumpy because my dog died and perhaps I will lose my 90s membership card but I am not a fan of Hole and never have been. Sadly this album did not change my mind. For me personally 1 star at best.
You know, I never listened to this whole album before. I knew all the radio releases but never sought it out. Overall it's ok but to me nothing special. The radio releases will make it into a playlist but not the whole album.
It was interesting. I don't think I'll come back to it though. 2* for me.
It's Muddy doing what Muddy does. Overall a good listen and I enjoyed it but it's nothing special... although "...Mojo working" always gets me up and dancing.
This album is a great example of why you should not listen to "best of" or "greatest hits" compilations. These songs weren't all popular but as a whole the album was great. It had me captured from start to finish and was an experience I'll be revisiting for sure.
I hate that I like this, but I really like this. Which is good because my kids listen to it constantly, which really speaks to its quality since I'm not sick of it. I can't say I'll randomly turn it on one day but that's because my kids take care of that. 5 stars for me.
Utterly amazing. I enjoyed this so much.
Classic Christmas for sure. I enjoyed it but only seasonally. I did add this to my albums so I'll give it a listen again this time next year.
So I think it's safe to say this group is greatly influenced by Bowie. It was a good listen but I don't think I'll come back to it. When I'm in the mood for something like this I'll just listen to Bowie.
So...whiny. OK, I feel like I should like Neil Young but half way through the first track I was like "how long is this song, it just drags on." Considering that was 1:40 into the album it set the tone. 2 stars at best for me, I wanted it to be more but I just don't love it and won't revisit anytime soon.
Ah something from the era of music that I do not live. For what it is it is done very well. I'm fairly certain I've heard a bunch of it sampled in other songs over the years. It's not my taste which makes it a 2 but I feel like I need to apply an adjustment because I recognize it's impact on future generations of music that I do enjoy. 3 it is.
OK, this is the Neil Young I can appreciate. This album is filled with songs I enjoy and when you consider the album as a whole it's a great listen. I was hypercritical of Neil last time, and now maybe I'm a little overly generous with 4 stars but it's a 3 star average so it works out.
It's jazz. I like jazz as background music. I would play this again if I need to mellow out and have something on in the background.
So I never really need an excuse to listen to this but I'm glad to be given one. Admittedly I am biased due to a lifelong love of this album but 5 stars for me.
Before today I thought I was an Aerosmith fan, and I guess I am in a Greatest Hits sense of fandom. By the end of the album I was wondering when it would be over. For me it's a 2, I'll listen to the songs I like but don't think I'll revisit the whole album.
I really enjoyed this until track 6. It lost me at track 6. I would have rated this 4 stars but since I didn't care for it after track 5 I am going with 3.
It's the Beatles doing what they do. I am also biased as I've always liked this album.
Today I looked at this list and realized how far behind I am, need to get back on it, but I digress. I have always loved live recordings, there's just something about them that appeals to me. I can't say I'm a huge Deep Purple fan but this was a good listen. I can definitely hear the influence on future generations of musicians and I think it still holds up.
I've always been a fan of Clapton and it's great to hear the original versions of songs he also covers in his solo career. For the most part I really enjoyed this but by the end I was checking to see when it would be over. 3 stars.
Ok, I found this to be really enjoyable but I forgot to write down my notes immediately after so I can't tell you why.
So full disclosure I could not get through the entire album. For me this is 2* at best. What's weird to me is I can definitely hear the influences on music I love, which usually rates higher for me but the fact I couldn't finish it says a lot.
Not for me. I feel like I should like it but I didn't. 1 star.
This was really good. I recognized the name but never listened to the music. I'm glad the 1001 called this one out. 4 stars for me.
I was surprised by this. I didn't expect to like that it at all but I didn't hate it. I'm not about to run out and buy all the Go-Go's albums I can or anything but I would be willing to listen to more. 3 stars is where I'm at.
Other than Faith, which is a great tune, this is not something I'll come back to. I think it is very reflective of the music happening in that era, it's just not for me.
It's just so damn good! Enough said.
Speaking as someone who saw "Love Janis" when Big Brother & The Holding Company was the "orchestra" this is an easy 5 stars for me. Loved it.
So I found myself really liking this album but about 2/3 of the way I was like "How long is this thing?" I'll come back to it for sure but will need to pull out the tracks I really like or enjoy in smaller doses. 3.5 which I'll round up to 4.
I really tried to get through it...I failed. I'm sure there's an audience out there for this. I am not it.
I don't know what I expected but this was not it. Overall very good for what it is. It's not my preferred style of music but I liked it. I probably won't seek this out again but I'm glad I listened to it.
A couple solid tracks and overall I like this group but after a while I'm like "when will it end?"
This was hit or miss for me. 2.5 stars that will round up to 3.
So my first thought was... shouldn't there only be 3 stooges? Then I remembered Shemp and spent some time pondering which one was Shemp. Then I listened to the album. I was expecting to enjoy it and found myself sorely disappointed. I don't think I'll ever revisit this one.
I've always liked Elton John in a Greatest Hits and "I enjoyed his Muppet Show appearance" kind of way but I never listened to a whole album. I have to say I really enjoyed it, it's clear why he is an icon in the music industry. 4 stars for me and I will be revisiting this some day.
I really enjoyed this. It's good to hear to roots of a lot of food music. With that said I'm only rating 3 stars because I don't think I'll ever revisit it.
For what it is it's good but it's not for me.
This was... interesting. I will not be returning to it.
Stevie Wonder is one of those artists that I feel like I should be a fan of, and I do like some songs he's done, but overall I find it putting me to sleep. 2 stars at best for me.
I am biased and have always loved this album. This one gets a biased 5 stars from me.
This was very good and it will get another listen some day. 4 stars for me.
So today I learned I am not a Beastie Boys mega fan. I like their singles and radio releases but as a whole album...it's not my favorite. I must rate this 2 stars. My child of the 90's card has been revoked and is being returned to the appropriate authorities via snail mail.
If you had asked me if I liked this album before this listening I would have said, "hell yeah!" Now, upon listening with my adult ears, I have to say "nope!" I don't know if it's my tastes shifting or what but I just don't dig it anymore. I still like Sweet Child but the rest was just noise to me, even Paradise City was sadly not as good as my memory says it should be.
I didn't know what to expect with this one but what I heard I loved. Will definitely come back to this some day. 5 stars for me just because I usually prefer lyrics but this had me captured from start to finish.
