A few banger tracks and consistently amazing vocals. The interludes are tedious and some tracks didn't hit me.

A few classic songs and even the less famous songs have sections the vibe or hit hard and have been sampled extensively

The production on the album is multi-layered and works exceptionally well on many tracks. I can't remember who described it as a prog rock rap album, but there is a lot of truth to that. The production is a lot of fun! I also really enjoyed some of the guest verses (Nicki Minaj has a particularly good one). However, I just can't get past the rank misogyny on some of the tracks. Women are treated as playthings primarily valued for their looks and sexuality. Common tropes in the genre, but I don't have to listen to it.

Setting aside the monstrous behavior later in his life, this album remains a masterpiece. MJs voice is silky smooth and effortlessly cool but energetic. The lyrics are generally catchy and accessible but abstract enough to be interesting (though the girl is mine falls very, very short on that front -- what a waste of two great talents). Quincy Jones' production on this album has stood the test of time. The beats are laid-back but propulsive and make me want to dance. Not all of the 8 top ten hits remain bops but Billie Jean, Human Nature, and PYT could still be on my playlist.

Joni Mitchell is one of those artists who sometimes hits for me and usually leaves me cold. This album is more miss than hit.

Not my favorite Fela Kuti album, but damn good!

Mishmash of styles all played competently, but with no distinctive hook. I would be excited to see them play in a bar, but I don't see how this is one of the greatest 1000 albums of all time. It wouldn't even make top 1000 in my collection.

Otis is great. Some of the covers are really good.
