Songs From The Big Chair by Tears For Fears
Mar 13 2024

Way more avant-garde jazz feel than I was expecting. The instrumental tracks had a very sad vibe. Lots of synthesized sound, very 80s. These guys were in a sad place when they made this.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Mar 14 2024

This was a surprisingly good album. The vibe is upbeat and cool. Very consistent. A very easy listen.

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Mar 15 2024

This is a quintessential 70's album. They have a very unique sound. The recording itself was very "clean". The instrument separation was really good.

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Mar 18 2024

This album influenced so many other artists, but I found it hard to listen to.

Live At The Regal by B.B. King
Mar 19 2024

It’s a good blues album. There were no stand out tracks to me.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Mar 26 2024

This is like seeing a high school photo of one of your favorite grownup. You can really hear where REM started.

Very by Pet Shop Boys
Mar 27 2024
The Infotainment Scan by The Fall
Apr 05 2024

Do you want to listen to a restaurant expeditor call out orders while electronica drones in the background? This is for you?

Songs Of Leonard Cohen by Leonard Cohen
Apr 08 2024

This was a dreary poetry reading with music as an after thought.

Remain In Light by Talking Heads
Apr 15 2024

This doesn’t feel like their best album. The majority of the tracks were kitschy performance tracks. Which, to be fair, is what Talking Heads do.

Apr 16 2024

Still amazing after all these years. A listen at 44 hits different than when I was 24. Somehow young me missed all the ennui the first time.

Sail Away by Randy Newman
Apr 18 2024

Randy Newman is in a category of 1. I think his best songs are the ones where he says the quiet part out loud. Writing in the first person of a particularly kind of person singing their inner and intrusive thoughts.

I Should Coco by Supergrass
Apr 23 2024

Solid. First song to last all enjoyable.

The Boatman's Call by Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Apr 25 2024

Wow. Absolutely nothing redeeming.

Odessa by Bee Gees
Apr 26 2024

I feel like the 1001 album selection is an elaborate troll. Where is Saturday Night Fever? Why this album?

Joan Baez by Joan Baez
May 01 2024

Not as bad as I thought it was going to be. Folk music, sung high.

Pearl by Janis Joplin
May 06 2024
Play by Moby
May 07 2024

Most of the album is like secret Lofi girl mix. I never knew that.

Synchronicity by The Police
May 08 2024

Still holds up in 2024.

The Stooges by The Stooges
May 10 2024

Solid late sixties rock album. They use the distinctive distortion of the era lending to a time capsule feeling.

Chirping Crickets by Buddy Holly & The Crickets
May 13 2024

This is one of my dad’s favorites. Easy listen, upbeat.

In Utero by Nirvana
May 14 2024

I love Nirvana. One of my favorite bands. I haven’t listened to this album, as a whole album, since it came out. I forgot about the couple of weird tracks where Kurt just sort of screams at the listener.

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
May 15 2024

Really great rhythm and bass lines throughout.

The Velvet Underground by The Velvet Underground
May 16 2024

So much better than your first album, probably because they learn to play their instruments. Eight minute murder mystery song was absolutely to listen to. There is zero songs on this album. I would never want to hear.

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
May 23 2024

Four, ten minute long songs made for a very different type of listen.

Moss Side Story by Barry Adamson
May 24 2024

Truly terrible as a selection for this list.

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
May 29 2024

This album shows up on so many lists that I was excited to finally listen to it. The lyrics are unintelligible and the music was entirely forgettable. Very disappointing.

Water From An Ancient Well by Abdullah Ibrahim
May 30 2024

This album wasn’t available on my streaming services in the US. I was able to listen to 4 tracks off of YouTube. It’s jazz and I don’t have much of an appreciation of jazz.

Odelay by Beck
Jun 03 2024

Still awesome.

Stripped by Christina Aguilera
Jun 05 2024
The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monáe
Jun 10 2024

Too much concept and not enough funk.

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Jun 11 2024

Not their best

Dare! by The Human League
Jun 12 2024

Way better than I expected for synth pop.

Eagles by Eagles
Jun 13 2024
Space Ritual by Hawkwind
Jun 14 2024

This album was a trip. Over two hours of all over the place space jam band. The time spent playing was really good. I don’t think I’d ever sit through the “lyrics” or the long noise sessions again.

Court And Spark by Joni Mitchell
Jun 17 2024

Each song has its own style and rhythm. No “sameness” between the tracks makes it a very listenable album.

At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
Jun 18 2024

This is a great album. It wasn’t easy to listen through in one day. It’s a 2+ hour album with long solos and jams. It would have been awesome to see these guys live, which is probably the best way to experience a jam band.

Let's Get It On by Marvin Gaye
Jun 19 2024

Too sexy for me. She likes to rides repetitive lyrics started to make me uncomfortable.

Elephant by The White Stripes
Jun 25 2024
Kollaps by Einstürzende Neubauten
Jun 28 2024

This is the first album I couldn’t make it through. I felt like I was being trolled.

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jul 02 2024

Two hits and the rest is just noodling on guitars

Paul's Boutique by Beastie Boys
Jul 03 2024

Hi quality beats manufactured in NYC.

Copper Blue by Sugar
Jul 04 2024

This is average, run of the mill, mid-90s popish rock. If I had caught this act in a bar or as an opening act it would have been great. I do not understand why this would be on the list of 1001 albums you must listen to. You do not need to listen to this.

The Atomic Mr Basie by Count Basie & His Orchestra
Jul 08 2024

One of the most accessible jazz albums I’ve ever listened to.

She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper
Jul 09 2024

I was surprised by how many hits are on this album.

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
Jul 10 2024

I had forgotten how angry he is in this album.

1984 by Van Halen
Jul 11 2024
Bat Out Of Hell by Meat Loaf
Jul 15 2024

Go big or go home. Everything is a huge ballad. I prefer the songs on their own rather than all in a row.

Since I Left You by The Avalanches
Jul 19 2024

Despite not being the type of album that I can take in one sitting, there are two absolute standout tracks here.

In Rainbows by Radiohead
Jul 30 2024

Far from my favorite Radiohead album. Not sure why this one made the list.

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Jul 31 2024

I had no idea Janis Joplin started with this band. Surprising. A little piece of my heart has been on my playlist for a long time.

Woodface by Crowded House
Aug 01 2024

Not their best album.

Damaged by Black Flag
Aug 02 2024

I gave it an extra star for Henry Rollins lyrics, but this album is questionable

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Aug 05 2024

I didn’t understand a word of the lyrics. No tracks I’d listen to again. They have a good sound though.

Nebraska by Bruce Springsteen
Aug 08 2024

Highly depressing album.

The White Album by Beatles
Aug 12 2024

No review needed. Great from start to finish. There are a number of songs on this album that seem like they were experiments and could have been cut. E.g. Revolution 9

Debut by Björk
Aug 13 2024

Part performance art, part dance album. Bjork really did something unique and interesting with this release. I listen to Human Behavior and Venus as a Boy a few times a year when it comes up in my mix.

Psychocandy by The Jesus And Mary Chain
Aug 15 2024

Kinda lame.

American Gothic by David Ackles
Aug 16 2024

A musical without going to the trouble of crafting a story.

25 by Adele
Aug 21 2024

So many great songs on this album.

Shadowland by k.d. lang
Aug 22 2024

Not great. It’s all haunting country western.

The Queen Is Dead by The Smiths
Aug 27 2024

Steve is so full of himself and probably depressed. He try’s to be deep but comes off as pretentious.

Whatever by Aimee Mann
Sep 13 2024

I don’t get it.
