Fred Neil
Fred NeilLove his voice, but it's telling that the best song on here is done so much better by by a cover two years later. Unfortunately I just don't think there's enough here unless you're really into sleepy country-sounding folk.

Kinda just mediocre rock that isn't really special in anyway. Super forgettable.
If I had known about Elliott Smith's music in the 9th grade... whewwwww buddy, I would've lost my shit. Unfortunately, I haven't been in the 9th grade for awhile. That being said in terms of sad boy soulful white kid music this is pretty good, and I wouldn't be doing my younger self justice if I didn't acknowledge that.
Little too sleepy for my tastes. Most the songs were far too similar too.
These songs kinda sneak up on you. Not gonna lie, kinda surprised, because I listened to this album years ago and found no enjoyment in it.
The title track is really good, but the other three don't hit quite the same level. Interesting, but not really my jam in general. A bit too long-winded for me.
Crazy how many of their top hits come from this debut album. They really went downhill fast huh? Outside of the hits though, this was just okay. Nothing saved from this one. I think they suffer from being overplayed to the highest degree. If they weren't so saturated on radio and stuff maybe I'd like them more. Kinda between a 2 and 3 for me. hard to choose honestly, wish I could give half stars.
I knew this album was good, but had never done a deep dive on it. Not a sleeper on the entire thing. Crazy good.
Yeah, the Ramones are good. But all these songs bleed together into one note that gets repetitive real fast.
I commend the amount of experimentation that went into this album. Unfortunately, for me, most often this experimentation leads to songs that lack any kind of cohesion, which trickles out into the album as a whole. I can't say that I connected with anything on the record outside of momentary interludes on certain tracks.
An intolerabley boring album. I don't get the hype surrounding Radiohead. This isnt one of the albums that has their big hits on it even. It blows me away that something this timid and uninspired can speak to so many people. I'm glad someone gets something out of it though.
Not Paul Simon's best. So sleepy that I struggled to get through it. I'm a Simon fan, but sometimes the deepcuts just aren't that good I guess. Sure, it's not horrible, but it's certainly not remarkable.
Some real bangers on here, but it's inconsistent. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one. Love their style and sound.
Surprisingly modern sounding. A few tracks off this could've been recorded a few years ago. Nice album. Got some of the hits too, and some deep cuts that were worth a listen.
Dang good Bowie album. So insanely listenable. No two songs are quite the same, even though the tracks have a harmony that makes them a cohesive group. Very inventive and fresh feeling despite its age.
Just not very compelling for me. Completely forgettable, only one song that was mildly decent.
God Adele has a good voice. I wish that the backing behind her boiled was more consistently compelling. Often on this album it feels like an afterthought. Still, I have a hard time giving her a low rating, when she is probably one of the best voices of her generation.
Despite the fact that a lot, and I mean a lot, of Beastie Boys songs sound very similar to one another, I still find myself loving them. Some of the most genuinely fun music that I can think of. I don't think this is as quite good as their debut album, but nonetheless it's still got some great songs, interspersed with weird interstitial material. This album gets a solid 4 simply for Egg Man alone.
Slightly mediocre/average sounding grunge. No real stand outs in the album, but a consistent quality that made for an enjoyable listen. Not sure if anything will still with me though.
Ya know, I've always thought that Franklin had an amazing voice. I liked and downloaded a fair few of her songs on spotify. And even though I enjoyed them, I always find myself skipping them. I really have to be in the right mood for them, because even though her voice is great, I always find the songs themselves to be too sleepy for my taste. That's ultimately what I found here; an album that I can appreciate but ultimately isn't for me beyond the few hits.
The Clash are like a worse version of Ramones. Every song sounds the same, but the song isn't quite as good as the Ramones. Overall just kinda mediocre and forgettable. I'm just not a big fan.
Not the best Talking Heads album I've ever heard, but still interesting and worth the listen, as well as a few songs that are totally worth a repeat listen. It's a testament to the quality of Talking Heads that even a 'mediocre' album like this is still worth the time to explore.
These guys are good at the sleepy vibes. Sleepy music that actually tends to be pretty dank.
Kanye is a shithead, and his music isn't as good as people give him credit for.
Good background jazz, but nothing here brought it to the forefront of my attention. A lot of lengthy tracks that were good but not super noteworthy to me, a self-proclaimed jazz neophyte.
Nico has a super unique voice that I can see would be decisive, but I'm firmly in the camp of enjoyers. There's only a few songs on the album that are think are worthy of saving, but still this was decent.
Probably the best of Paul Simon's solo albums. Has a few songs that are ultra-classics, and the rest of really interesting and listenable. That all being said, the one thing that brings this album down is his un-credited and appropriating use of central African music. I know that there is some controversy about this whole album for this, and while some songs like You Can Call Me Al are obviously much more classic Paul Simon, the essence of the album is steeped in African roots. Its funny that his best work is off the back of music that he had no part in creating. That all being said, is the album good? No, it's excellent. As long as you can recognize where the brilliance of this album comes from, its cool to enjoy it.
Love his voice, but it's telling that the best song on here is done so much better by by a cover two years later. Unfortunately I just don't think there's enough here unless you're really into sleepy country-sounding folk.
I say this in the most positive way possible: perhaps some of the best background music ever made, truly excellent stuff.
Not my vibe, though if it is, it's probably pretty good.
Meh.
Not exactly my thing and I dont have that much to say about it, but whatever. She's got a nice voice tho.
Perhaps the best pop rock album of all time. Nearly every song is a classic. Enjoyable from front to back, and timeless. Stevie Nicks had an amazing voice that finds its perfect match with the composition of these tracks.
I prefer the Smiths, but I still love Morrissey. The vibe of the music itself just isn't quite as far up my alley as the Smiths are.
Generic rock without anything special to it. A few songs that were above the rest, but mostly just extremely forgettable and bland. Honestly almost a 1 star.
So close to a full five star rating for me, just a tad long-winded and slow for my tastes. But I full appreciate it's greatest. Perhaps the best, or close to best Doors album. Something to listen to when on shrooms or weed and just lay back and vibe to.
A pleasant surprise from a band u had never heard of. Super listenable, if not exactly the most innovative. But they do have their own definitive that I enjoy. Nice, pleaseing, generic rock that doesn't suck.
A surprisingly fun and experimental rock album. There are many songs that are fun to listen to once, but because of some of the experimental choices, I'm not sure they would be great for repeated listening, for me at least. Nonetheless, a super interesting album with some great songs on it.
Some the best jazz that I've heard in awhile, but ultimately it's hard for me to see myself listening to this outside of just background music. I need to learn to listen to jazz in a more active way if I'm ever going to get more into Jazz.
Ehhhh, really not for me. I listened to the whole album in one continuous go, and it was rather boring and repetitive without having any strong standouts.
Trash. I honestly don't know how they came away with that hit Bellbottoms, which isn't even on this album. The singer sounds like a bad Elvis impersonator, and the music behind is voice is erratic, stupid, and noisy.
Just not a fan of Costello. Have a hard time maintaining my attention for him and his music.
Not a kate bush fan. If you can't connect with her voice, there's not much here for you
Kinda just mediocre rock that isn't really special in anyway. Super forgettable.
Their two hits are nostalgic for me, but beyond that they are rather mediocre. I remember them playing on the radio when I was a kid, and I hadn't heard them in a such a long time.
Not as good as their first album, just doesn't hit in the same way.
Sleepy 60's singer/sonwriter stuff that is pretty okay if you can stay conscious through it. tbh I didn't do a very thorough job of going through the album because I needed something with more pep in the step, and this wasn't it, though from the songs I did listen to there's certainly something to Walkers work. He's got a interesting voice, almost like a crooner, that makes his stuff stand out a bit.
I'm sorry, but I'm not about to listen to 20 minutes of overindulgence, get the fuck out of your own ass Rush. A few more acceptable songs after the opener, but I just can't stand his voice, and that's a dealbreaker.
Meh
I've always liked the grateful dead, I don't care if it makes me a 67 year old white dude with a pot-belly and white facial hair.
Not as bad as I was initially anticipating, but still not good enough to listen to ever.
Blue-eyed soul at one of its peaks. Both Dusty's vocal and the backing accompaniment are really really good. Gained a new appreciation for her for sure.
Certainly a talented songwriter, but her voice goes from really powerful to annoying in the mere seconds. I'm not sure what it is, but there isn't enough consistenly solid vocals here for me to go back to it despite the lyrics and backing.
The musical embodiment of NPR taking too much LSD. Extremely experimental, equal parts folk, sea shanty, Sitar, psychedelic, and strongly Scottish vocals. Very of its time. Not for me.
Really enjoy the mix of acoustic (folk/country) and electric (psychedelic) sounds on this record. Wish we had more of the group before they split up to do their own thing. Similar in some positive ways to The Band
I do really like Stipe's utterly unique vocals across R.E.M's work, and this could probably considered one of their high-water marks as a group, but I didn't find myself super invested. Doesn't help that one of the hits on this album has become a total meme.
Mmmmmmmmm. No thanks. Not a big fan of their dance/electronic vibe. I have no framework with which to decide if it's actually objectively bad, but it's certainly not my speed.
Unfortunately this feels like one of the instances where the artist may be more interesting than their art :( I don't mind her deeper voice, but I'm struggling to get behind the often messy quality of the backing. I also don't think that the lyrics are nearly as inspired as some people interpret them to be.
Pretty alright all things considered. Prefer the grunge side of the 90's Seattle music scene, but there are some solid tracks here worth the time to find.
Crazy how much I love this, but perhaps it has something to do with being stoned. I've never listen to much Peter Gabriel, or Genesis for that matter, and never really considered myself much of a prog rock or art pop kind of guy. But damn, I was kinda blow away by a lot of these songs. I totally get what other people are talking about when they say that this album sounds like Gabriel still trying to find his sound, but I kinda loved that aspect of it. There are so many different versions of him on display and most of them rock. It's over the top, artsy, campy, and a lot of fun.
I love Nina. Such a wonderful voice. A complex person too. Her stuff isn't the type that I listen to often, but it's really quite good.
Unfortunately much overplayed, so even though the songs are good, it's hard to appreciate them as they should.
I love the album, but I recognize that it's not a masterpeice.
This is the type of album I'm always surprised to see popping up on this list. Perhaps I've just never met anyone who enjoys this type of vibe, but I'm half convinced that they don't exsist and we're all being collectively gaslit.
Interesting at the very least, but unconvinced that this will be memorable.
While there are certainly a couple of hits on this album, the rest was surprisingly tepid for me. I like alot of Lennon's solo stuff, so this was kind of a surprise, though I think Harrison and McCartney had better solo careers.
Not Neil's strongest work, but still passable. It's his late work that becomes truly unlistenable. Hope that the best albums are also on this list 👍
Interesting, but not really my speed. Something that would play on my new age Aunt's car atero nonstop. And yet it's also good?
Sonic Youth? More like Sonic Nouth.
Decent. Love the mix of acoustic and vocals.
Peak Arcade Fire, but unfortunately it's still Arcade Fire. There's only so much you can do when you're a part of Arcade Fire. They never stood a chance smh
