Untitled (Black Is)
SAULTNot necessarily a bad album, but not really my musical style.
Not necessarily a bad album, but not really my musical style.
I really tried to find the artistic side of this album and see a way to enjoy it, but with all the respect in my heart this just felt like a pure cacophony of noise lol. It definitely feels like the soundtrack for any manic pixie dream girl of the late 50’s early 60’s. Mad respect to Mingus but just not my style.
I’ve only ever heard Bittersweet Symphony from them and I’m not the biggest fan of it due to how overplayed it is. But DAMN this album?? It’s so smooth and haunting but almost grunge, such a perfect amalgamation of sound. Huge fan.
I didn’t have a single song that I even thought to skip on this album. One of my favorites on this journey.
Loved a few tracks but not a listen through album for me. Pivotal alt rock sound though and does feel like an essential experience for that scene.

A must listen for anyone who dj’s or likes samples. Trying to get through it even if it’s not my style. Album art perfectly matches the vibe.
No interest in giving him any of my streaming time or attention.
I really tried but every song just made me think of toy story and I couldn’t get past it.
The whole time I felt like a detective in a 70’s cop show. Hell of a vibe
I don’t know how else to describe it besides it sounded like a middle school blues band. Love the white stripes but this wasn’t it for me.
Would never have listened to this on my own and will likely never listen in full length again but it was funky and a nice change up.
Iconic and sounds so much more mature than Get Behind Me Satan. Much more blues rock than just blues. Wouldn’t say it’s a no skip album for me but enjoyed the listen.
Much more of a vibe than anticipated!
Pretty good but just felt like generic early 2000’s pop.
This album is how I discovered I do like reggae.
One of the best story tellers in the history of music. The tie ins of melodies throughout the album get me every time. This is one I’ve heard many times before but I’ll never turn down the chance to listen again. Would rate higher if I could.
This whole album sounds the same to me.
If Trent Reznor and Bob Dylan sang vocals for Radiohead, you would get the afghan whigs.
Actually really liked this album. I feel like U2 is over-hated considering how solid their sound and structure is.
The soundtrack to a C-list coming of age movie in the early 2000’s.
This album perfectly describes psychedelics or psych rock because I would have to be under the influence to thoroughly enjoy it.
Occasionally I like metal but I don’t think I like thrash. Too chaotic for me.
Love Sufjan!! Such an interesting sound and odd stories layered in each track. Will definitely revisit.
With the exception of Take Me Out, there was nothing super memorable about this one. Doesn’t mean it was bad, just felt very generic.
This isn’t dad rock, this is grandpa rock. I have a love/hate relationship with some of the hits from Steely Dan. But I think after hearing this album I get why they were so popular and still are to a degree. Enjoyed more than I expected!
Loved this!! Only knew a couple tracks from them prior but definitely want this album after listening. Epitome of 90’s.
When you take too much Benadryl, this album plays in the background as you duel the hat man.
I only liked one song that had no vocals
I’m not mad about this one. It was fun and groovy and despite being way too long for me to typically enjoy, it stayed fresh throughout. May not listen cover to cover again but won’t be upset if it’s on.
Decent album but not memorable.
I was so hopeful for this one since it’s such a cult classic and I’ve liked other joy division songs. But this album just seemed so monotonous to me and maybe I didn’t listen closely enough but I just don’t get it.
This just wasn’t it for me. Not a terrible album but I have no desire to listen again.
Fire!! I love how “90s” this whole album sounded. Kept my attention the whole way through without sounding monotonous. A nice break in the duds I’ve been getting.
I had only really heard Toxicity from SOAD before this and part of me was dreading this album. But so solid!! I really loved it. His vocals can be a little much sometimes but also keeps it interesting.
I always see this album sell out but I never knew why. I get it now.
This was super groovy and incredible funk in the first half but then I got bored.
It’s been a while since I had any interest in anything hip-hop so I was unsure about this one. But it was so great! The storytelling was evenly matched with the solid production and mixing. Actually really enjoyed it.
This was the most tortuous album I’ve ever heard. I feel ill.
I’ve only ever heard Bittersweet Symphony from them and I’m not the biggest fan of it due to how overplayed it is. But DAMN this album?? It’s so smooth and haunting but almost grunge, such a perfect amalgamation of sound. Huge fan.
I’m slowly growing more familiar with blues so this is a very inexperienced critique, but this just felt like a quintessential blues album. If I look up blues in the dictionary I think this starts playing. May not be an every day listen for me but I did enjoy it.
Her voice is so beautiful even if country isn’t my vibe.
This was a generally very funky and groove heavy album but it kinda all sounded the same.
I’ve been a fan of Elvis for almost my whole life so it’s not a shocker I liked this one, but it was so interesting to me to notice the quality of the recording and visualize how it was made.
What an incredibly stellar sound and clean recording. Newport folk walked so Woodstock could run.
This was pretty good even if it may not be something I revisit often. Definitely matched my style just didn’t stand out to me much.
I really couldn’t get into this one.
I wouldn’t have expected to like this but thoroughly enjoyed it! Very soft 90’s.
Don’t get me wrong, I adore Ella’s voice and this is a beautiful album. But I truly didn’t think it would ever end.
Never disappointed by Talking Heads.
I always love anything from Prince but this was my first front-to-back album listen from him. He was one horny dude.
Her voice is beautiful and I loved how edgy the lyrics were for a 1967 country album.
I didn’t enjoy this at all.
Pretty solid, a couple borderline cringe songs but great album.
This album made me realize how many Cure songs I already knew. But the other songs I hadn’t heard yet just felt like they went on forever. I didn’t listen to the remasters and demos because even though I did like over half the tracks, I just don’t think I liked them enough to enjoy hearing them 2-3 different ways. solid album but wasn’t as much of an experience for me as others have been.
Such a good album. Great to have on anytime, just not sure how often I would specifically seek it out.
Even if this wasn’t my jam this is a really solid album. Super cohesive and fluid sound.
I feel like at a certain point all his music blends together. Doesn’t mean it’s bad but he made so many albums it’s hard to be in love with every single one.
Yeah I just couldn’t find this enjoyable.
Generally vibey album!
What an album. What an artist. I get the hype now.
A great rock album. I personally don’t like the synth-y organ in certain spots but still solid songs!
Loooooved this album. Such an iconic rock sound with the right amount of sleaze.
I already loved this album so I wasn’t upset about listening again. Such a personal classic.
I didn’t have a single song that I even thought to skip on this album. One of my favorites on this journey.
I haven’t been a fan of east coast hip hop so far but this was a much better album than other east coast I’ve heard. Added quite a few of these tracks to my lists.
As someone who only knows the top hits from zeppelin, I really enjoyed the other songs I didn’t know because of how almost experimental they sounded. Killer album.
The first song of this album is very misleading because it sounds like something interesting to listen to, and then the rest of the album is just awful.
A little better than the other T. Rex album I got but still a little underwhelming.
I wasn’t expecting much and figured this would be a fairly decent album but even with low expectations it just seemed very mid and unmemorable.
Better than my previous Elvis Costello album but still not a huge fan.
I thought this would be a great album and I was right.
I do enjoy their sound but not something I would seek out often.
I think I expected to like this more but it still was a great listen.
I’ve only heard a few hits from the smiths and would’ve never thought to listen to this album but I LOVED it.
Sure the hits are good but some of the other tracks on this album were even better than I could’ve imagined.
So smooth so jazzy. No notes.
Yeah I just didn’t like this at all.
A little too psych for me.
Relatively groovy but not a huge hit for me.
I didn’t like this as much as I expected to, but I do understand why they were as popular as they were. It’s a very specific and nostalgic sound that is not easily replicated anymore. RIP Brian 🤍
This was not at all what I expected given the cult like following I’ve heard Leonard Cohen has. Very interesting voice but mildly unsettling.
I think I liked this better than The Bends. Seems so much more experimental and almost ethereal.
No surprise I loved this album since I love everything Queen. But this was a pleasant reminder of how killer this album is.
I can’t lie, I was kinda shocked by this one. I recognized the hits but didn’t expect to like anything else. These dudes rock though.
I thought it was alright at first but I just didn’t like it. Not nearly as hard metal as I expected or wanted.
This was a really cool album but I had a hard time trying to stay engaged because the tracks were so long and seemed very repetitive.
I like her hits and this was a decent pop album but it just wasn’t very memorable.
Even if his voice is annoying at times, this was a great album.
I’m not finishing this. I’ve never liked an album less than this.
Didn’t realize how many songs I already knew off this album, but I even liked the ones I didn’t know!
Eh. Not a big fan of his in general but I think 20/20 is better.
Such a classic sound and feel. Loved this whole album!
Not necessarily a bad album, but not really my musical style.
I kinda expected to like this more since I do enjoy rock so much more. This seemed more bluesy almost folk than rock to me, which surprised me since I’m used to the typical stones hits.
Cool sound, pretty unique, not super memorable though.
