Vulnerable. Feels like some minimal Jeff Buckley, if that makes sense. A surprising, pleasant find.
Thought just the Bassline on "Billie Jean" and the solo on "Beat It" would be enough for 5 stars, bust the rest of the album hasn't aged as well.
Feels like one those that'll grow on you if you listen a good couple of times, but that first time was a real slog.
The album is great in everything it attempts; old-school thrash, modern grooves, technical solos, and even weirder attempts like "Dawn Patrol". Tight, focused and enjoyable.
Had heard a lot about Patti Smith, never listened before. Feels like there is a gem in there somewhere but it'll take more listens to find it. Note to self, I suppose.
A decent album, but hardly memorable.
I never got the Beatles. And since they're so big, I always thought there'll be time to dive into it. This album though, it ain't it. At the very least it's an easy, fun listen, but that's not a very high bar.
The lyrical theme aside, hardly anything about the album stands out. It feels like pop with a P. I suppose if you don't connect to its theme it's just another album.
I was skeptical at first, but these riffs are infectious.
One of those rare albums here that got me listening a couple of times. There's a danceable quality to almost all the songs, and the vocals are actually pleasantly hypnotic to my ears. Funny how I had never heard of these guys before.
I like BjΓΆrk, or more like, the idea of BjΓΆrk. I've tried to get into her music ever since Dancer in the Dark, but what she clearly and masterfully succeeds in creating is just not a very enjoyable mixture. It's like a very exotic cocktail; made by a pagan witch, incredibly light with swirling undercurrents of darkness, and just tasting weird as hell. In short, I'm probably gonna try this album later, or her other stuff. But for now, dammit, I'm just gonna have a shot of something simpler.
A great surprise find. I'm baffled how I hadn't listened to more PJ Harvey before.
Perfectly unhinged, dirty and fuzzy. This is great stuff.
Haunting, unique, groovy. I had never listened properly listened to Portishead beyond their hits (Roads etc.) and this showed me how much I was missing out.
