I started to listen and all I could think about was Monty Python. While the music is interesting(?) ah...make that jarring, some of the lyrics are a stretch for my brain. Not something I would return too.
Listening to this album was like falling in love for the first time. Unpredictable, indescribable, and full of highs and lows.
Love the blues especially BB King; Muddy Waters a true original; I found the album heavy on "talking" ~
The lyrics of each song weave together and it's like listening to a book. The instrumentals on each tune added to my enjoyment. For the most part I loved the high energy...but the constant "high" note of Mitchell's voice was a bit much after a while. Still, album is worth listening to and enjoying.
This album is just plain fun. Nothing too complex about the music or lyrics; just a go with the tunes and "groove:".. little cheesy, lots of fun. The "standing room only" had me dancing~ Bobby Womack's voice is great to listen too. RIP Bobby~
Loved the relaxed vibe and creative lyrics. Grant's voice is easy to listen too.
After listening to the album I gave a listen to Tom Rush; for some reason Grant reminded me of him. But alas Grant is Very different than Rush. Enjoyed the album and I will probably return to it.
Drums, guitar riffs, vocals all high energy and stand up and shout worthy.
Loved the back in the day and still Great album. RIP Ozzie
I'd give 4 songs on the album a 10 if I could. Smooth, Sensual and Invokes memories of those loves gone wrong. Enjoyed every second of listening to Ray Charles.
Four stars for the guitar and lyrics. Drake's voice is like a gentle whisper striving to be heard and yet not daring to draw attention to the vocalist.
Most of the album made me feel like hiding from the world. Talented Guy with lots of struggles.
I would blare this at an outdoor barbeque with lots of beer flowing. Love the energy. Great album for a summer get together~
I loved everything about this. The mix up of styles, cultures, instruments and vocalists really kept me interested. Jah was understated and let the music rule. I loved it!
Love the horns and the rhythm. I may request that this be played at my funeral because I'm sure it would make me get up and dance. Drums, mix of instruments is interesting. Such vibrancy for an album from the 50s!
I would give 10 stars if I could. No one can compare to B.B. King and his guitar Lucille. I remember seeing him in concert when I was a teenager.
Album brings back memories.
Rod summons his inner Howler Monkey~
What a difference auto tune makes...
Love her voice and creative lyrics. Would rate it a 5 but got tired of the androids.
If I were listening to this back in the 50s I would have rated it higher. Then it would sound fresh and innovative. The sound on the album was scratchy and technically subpar. Buts Fats Domino rates a 5...
Enjoyed every note and loved the randomness of the lyrics.
Nick Drake's voice is melodious. Beautifully haunting and lingers long after the last note is sung. His lyrics are moving and thought provoking. A talent gone too soon.
I loved a few songs and would have given it a 5 for Jeff Beck's guitar skills,
But the vocals on many of the tracks warranted a overall 3 rating.
Love the non stop energy of this and rhythm that doesn't quit. Arrangements and vocals are top notch. Great Album
Listened to this album and felt like I was discovering a new language. At first I couldn't appreciate the mix of instruments and rhythms but as released any kind of judgement I felt excited by the surprise of what came next. This is definitely not an album to relax too. High energy and complex.
Loved traveling back in time. While I don't think Dylan would win "best voice" his lyrics hit it out of the park. Some of the songs are rants and rages but he knows how to switch gears to memories of lost love. Loved the album.
Harmony and vocals are worthy of revisit. The sound is so pure and yet complex. The vocals are "shut off your phone" and pay attention to how beautiful everything is balanced and tonally rich. I didn't think I'd enjoy this album but it was lovely.
What an amazing album! Thank you for introducing me to this "language of energy and rhythm; I enjoyed every track and the drum solo was inspiring...who on earth can play like that! Fela does "what he came to do"; create a new fan. Loved this
Very relaxing. Love the voice; so lush and smooth. Enjoyed the rhythms and definitely helped me to slow down and listen.
Love the story telling in each song and remember listening to this as a kid.
Brought back memories of innocence. Thanks for putting this on the list.
2 stars for the cover art; Really disappointed by the album. Questioning if this is Really in 1001 albums you must listen to or 1001 you should avoid.
Total Fail for me.
Gave a 5 because of "love the one you're with" ... it was like an anthem in the 60's..
Lush voice and some solid lyrics and rhythms; loved two of the tracks but after a while got a bit repetitive. Still, her voice so enjoyable to listen too.
This album!! So many layers! Lyrics, quirky tones, raw vocals things flying at the ear out of nowhere ~ Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band made me sit up and listen as well as laugh. Not for everyday use..
Started out promising but then got TOO Honky Tonk for me.
3/5
Loved the high energy and mix of styles and culture on this album. Funk, Rap, Latin Beat all done well. A very pleasant surprise..
Absolutely LOVED this "vintage" gem. Every note, lyric, rhythm was a pleasure to listen too. Happy this was on the list.
I quit drinking but Tom Waits voice made me want to start again. Would need a few bottles to drown out the gravel assault to my ears. The lyrics, back up instruments were worth a 5.
Loved the lyrics! So clever, funny, poignant, thought provoking,.
Kept waiting for the next song just because he was so much fun as well as emotional to listen too. 4/5 (Didn't Love the voice)
