Sound of Silver
LCD SoundsystemSolid listen. A great album for long drives. Sometimes I thought it would be better if I did not know English, like the North American Scum song, just didn’t dig the lyrics much.

3.5 stars. When I think Stevie Wonder album this is the sound I think of. The only song from this album I was familiar with is “They Won’t Go When I Go” and it is my favorite track followed by “Heaven Is 10 Zillion Light Years Away”
I thought it started out strong with Mama Said and You Don't Own Me, but overall not an album I will be replaying. If I'm looking for a motown/doo wop sound there are better choices out there. It was a fun enough listen though. Wishin' and Hopin' reminded me of Tech N9ne's Bout Ta' Bubble where he says "And drinkin' and smokin' and humpin' and likin' it" maybe it is a response to Dusty's advice that a woman must "Show him that you care just for him, Do the things he likes to do.. you won't get him thinkin' and prayin', wishin' and hopin'"
The perfect sounds to sit and stare at the clouds and trees as they move in the wind. Brings about contemplative and nostalgic feelings, the long drawn out songs are a nice change from current media.
Sweetest Perfection and Memphisto were the low points for me. I was surprised how much of this I did not care for. The singles are bangers and I would’ve bought this in 1990 just for them, but I don’t see Violator being placed in regular rotation. 🤷♂️
Just didn’t really feel it. I’d give it another chance.
This rocks.
Nostalgia says 4-5 but I didn't much care for a couple songs.
Really energetic start. Would this be easy listening jazz? Take Five is a fun classic. For 33 minutes this seemed to go on for a while, but it was nice and I could see this as background music for a party.
The cover art is cool. I thought this would be something much different than it is. My bias against female pop vocals instantly took hold. The dude sucked too. But, ignoring that, the instrumentals are boring. To me they almost are something interesting, like an imitation of music I would be into. Instead I find it boring, repetitive, and my first 1 star.
It gave me the mental ambiance of a killer performance at a bar.
Tusk? Like the Kevin Smith film? 3.5 stars, need to give it a closer listen.
The standout song, in my opinion, is "The Mountain". That will be added to regular rotation. I also enjoyed "Song for Sathima" and the overall sound. It was a bit more ?relaxing? than I would have liked or that didn't fit with the mood while I was listening to it. "Sameeda" while I wouldn't say I disliked it, I suppose that is kind of what jazz is known for? The instruments are speaking in their own language. It was interesting.
I enjoyed the listen and would play it again. Great guitar playing and all, but I don’t think any songs really stood out aside from “Lo and Behold” and “Fire and Rain”.
The backing band had some good tunes. I never understood Frank Sinatra and still I don't think I understand his appeal. The only thing I can think of is he sounds like a guy trying to sing, there was a mass brainwashing to popularize his songs so regular guys could sing them to their girls and sound just like Sinatra. I really don't understand it.
What a fun name. I don't know the timeline of musical influences, what they took inspiration from or what they may have come up with on their own, but I heard things that I believe inspired later bands, different guitar riffs and melodies I think Disc 1 was stronger than Disc 2. The most fun section was the last 2 minutes of Chemical World, when it builds up, getting more and more frantic. It is hard to pick 2-3 favorite songs, I will be replaying this album.
Common is on record expressing many bigoted views. Separate the art from the artist. Not bad, the music holds up and does not feel outdated to listen to today. Some of the songs I thought were corny, like the one about his grandma getting robbed. The pimp song, the back and forth was kind of fun.
4.5 not a bad song here. What a delight it must have been putting this fresh record on the turntable.
I never heard of this band, but it sounds like they had a lot of influence on other musicians. The guitars were killer. Sounds like a group I would here at a bar or music festival where they could just keep jamming whatever they feel in the moment. Good stuff, added to my favorites.
Started out strong, some of the songs I didn't care for the vocals. Royksopp's Night Out was probably my favorite.
3.75 Stars. The singing and the rapping sound like 1991, but nothing else does; I found that really interesting. It has a certain sound to it that I wasn't sure about at first, but I would say this still sounds fresh and unique today.
Short and sweet. Night by Night, you just feel cool listening to it. Some of the songs didn’t pull me as much. 3.5 stars (I wish these were rated out of 10 rather than 5)
I think I would have liked this if I listened to it as a kid. I thought the album cover was the most interesting thing about it.
Awesome album cover. Super fun listen. Campy put me onto this like 10 years ago. Psych rock is cool, 4 stars.
I listened to it back to back, that deserves a 4.
2 listens, first I was thinking 5, then upon the second listen a 4. Ive heard others try to do this sound and not get it right. This was outside of what I normally listen to and maybe that was a large part of the appeal. It was refreshing.
2 stars. It wasn't bad, it was well done, polished, but just not my thing. To me it sounded a lot like the rock of that era.
This is my first listen through of a Marilyn Manson album. I'm reminded of Nine Inch Nails, White Zombie, and Mindless Self Indulgence. It's a sound I have to be in the mood to listen to and I don't see myself playing it often, but it's done well. I debated between 3-4. 3.5 stars.
Wow. It starts out strong with "All I Really Want". Alanis has crazy vocals and it hyped me up for the listen. As someone who has had "passionate" exes write long diatribes about me and our relationships this speaks to me in a familiar language. She really captures those feelings of anger, hurt, love, betrayal, and a longing for dreams to match reality. A couple songs were weaker and some of the music feels dated, that knocks a star off.
This sounds like drinking a light beer on a spring day surrounded by friends. Trigger Cut , it was driving me crazy trying to think where I've heard similar melodies sung I'm thinking Jim Croce and Elliott Smith? Ah yeah internet says Croce and that Smith dug this band. It sounds like pavement had a lot of influence on later bands or was just of that same era. I see this was their first album, I would give others a chance, but this one seemed like okay background music, nothing more. A lot of the songs felt incomplete and were missing that *thing* that draws you in. Cool album cover.
I must have first appreciated Dylan’s music in the fall. What a great selection to have this morning as I walked and watched the changing of the seasons.
Just looking at the cover and release year I had to will myself to listen to it. It’s the sound one would expect, but surprisingly it wasn’t a terrible listen. She has good instincts on melody and the music sounds of the era, but more fresh than I would’ve guessed. Reading her Wikipedia I think Cherry’s history, musical connections, and musical family are a more interesting story and help understand the influence she has had, but this album is not a must listen. 3 stars, but I will never listen to this again. The Buffalo Stance music video is a MUST WATCH. If I didn’t know better I’d think it was a parody of the time.
What a concert that must have been. 62 years later and you can still feel the energy from the performers and the crowd.
I wanted to like this. It starts strong with “I.G.Y.” An interesting story concept and a great song, if it all caught me like that track it would be a 3-4. But, I didn’t like any other song.
