Should be an option for zero stars. So interesting to me that so many rate this so highly. Different strokes.
Big swings. Too many misses. Feels dated.
It’s nice. For me it lacks something. Soul? Commitment? Emotion? Cmon guys. Look up from your shoes and make eye contact
Some really nice melodies here for me were spoiled by the overblown contrived space age production. Synths sound dated. Just listen to David Bowie instead.
She’s got the voice, she’s got the band. I’ve got the boots, I’ve got the hat. But I can’t get all the way there.
I still love Grace Slick’s voice, but, the acid has worn off, the songs sound dated
Shhh, don’t tell, but I kinda like The Monkees. However, there’s very little on this loooong album that I like. Self indulgent and dated.
No soul
I must say I tapped my toe, but never put it on. 2.5
The hit still hits, the rest still misses. 2.5
I dismissed it in the day, I guess because it wasn’t Joshua Tree. But just now I gave a serious listen, and I get it.
Great sound. Love Morrison’s voice, Manzarek’s organ, Krueger’s guitar. For me, the downfall is songwriting. The breaks sound clunky and contrived. Just give me a hooky chorus.
Wow. I loved listening to this. Great sound, great songs. 4.5
My fave Zeppelin album then, I find it stands up now.
Somewhat special
Respect gets it to three. Not my jam.
Like opera, I recognize it as brilliant but it’s not to my taste
Can’t
Wrongo
Great beats, great sound, many songs surprisingly musical. The lyrics, however, while undeniably clever at times, are frequently misogynistic, egotistical, often clumsy and way too in my face in the production. Ya I know. It’s rap. I’m trying. 3.5
Wake me up when it’s over
Jazzy, great rhythms, smart lyrics. This artist wasn’t on my radar at all!
Too pretty
Love Sam Cooke. Don’t love the live sound in this recording, and all the jivey intros. 3.5
Some good songs, some nice harmonies, but I’d sooner watch paint dry
So many great songs. Lindsey Buckingham’s guitar and Stevie Nicks vocals are sooo good. Probably as close to a perfect album as you can get. But I’ve never really liked it that much.
Love Beck, this is my favourite flavour of Beck. 4.5
Some of it sounds a bit dated, but the hits still hit.
White guys play the blues, technically well, lacking soul?
It is something. It is more shoegaze.
For me, ELP has not aged well. And this was never my fave ELP album.
No bloody way
I love this guy, but this is not his best album. Groundbreaking I guess, but indulgent. Not a good listen.
Different strokes
Barely 3. Not my favourite Wico
Voice, 1. But the songs are undeniable.
Good songs, like the instrumentation, guy’s music kinda grates
One of the best songwriters ever. And he can sing.
Loved it then, love it more now.
I like me some funk, but this sounds dated
Aims for soul, some hits. A surprise!
I’m horribly conflicted. Prince is amazing, a 5 for sure. But I really don’t like a lot of the songs. Lyrics are sticky, synth sounds feel dated, production is hyperbolic. So 3, I guess.
I prefer music
Seriously?
Songs are nice, kinda sound the same, kinda boring, but the horn section gets it to three for me.
This one has everything I love: energy and edge, jazz melody and hip hop rhythm. An all time fave.
I don’t hate the guitar rock, but I really hate the guy’s voice.
Better than Slade
Because respect, not because I want to listen to it
Stands up pretty well. 3.5
Some nice sounds but no soul. 2.5
Fantastic album. Songs, singing, lyrics, instruments. Gawd I’m so old fashioned. 4.5.
I would like to rate it higher. I like the idea of Frank Zappa. And this album is very appealing in select places for a few moments. And then it gets weird. It’s mostly weird.
Because Duke, but I’ll probably never put it on unless I stay up all night drinking scotch and the sun is coming up and I’m making breakfast. Then it would be perfect.
They are songs. With melodies.
No so mucho
I don’t digest sugar well
Liked it mote than I thought I would. Still not a fan of Liam Gallagher’s voice.
Can’t get it past 2.5. I’m not a ska/reggae fan generally, and this album sounds cheesy to me b
A nice shade of beige
Dag nabbit, it just ain’t my thang
Good band. Too screamy. 2.5
Don’t like the music, hate the singing. Jackie would have loved it.
A favourite then, has improved with age
Over the top theatrical. Boring. Boo.
Clever. Musical. I’ll never put it on again.
This has potential, but the beats are too robotic and there are some bizarrely mixed tracks.
Don’t like Lou Reed’s voice. Reminds me a bit of Dylan. Jackie would be mad. Again.
Another Dylan comparable. Songs of Love (love the poetry) and Hate (hate the singing).
Can’t quite get it to 3. The effects are too often ineffective. Some bits are pretty good though. 2.5
Guy sounds like Brian Ferry. I don’t like Brian Ferry. Incredibly indulgent production. Unlistenable.
A gem.
