i really was not familiar with bruce springsteen’s game. prior to the movie that came out this year, all i knew was born in the usa (song). this album is so gloomy and personal and it works with his voice so well.
favorite tracks:
- join the boys
- water with the wine
- like fire
favorite tracks:
- new year’s day
- like a song…
- two hearts beat as one
this is not an unfamiliar album to me; it’s been one of my favorites since high school and was one of the first albums I ever owned on vinyl. it holds a very special place in my heart.
favorite tracks:
- suite: judy blue eyes
- pre-road downs
- wooden ships
- helplessly hoping
reminds me of bright eyes/conor oberst - there was something special about the singer-songwriters who came out of the early 2000s. it’s also insane to me that this album was supposed to come out on 9/11/2001 when so much of it has themes of war + america
favorite tracks:
radio cure
jesus, etc.
pot kettle black
music is so powerful. listening to the prisoners cheer and interact with cash is something really special. it makes me that much more aware that THIS is real country - not what the modern “country singer” posers are doing. so many moments gave me chill.
favorite tracks:
- folsom prison blues
- san quentin
- a boy named sue
favorite tracks:
velouria
ana
all over the world
i’d say this is one of the biggest subgenres of music that i am unfamiliar with, so whenever i dig a little deeper into it im always extra intrigued. i liked this way more than u2 and pixies.
favorite tracks:
this is the one
she bangs the drums
i wanna be adored
don’t feel anything special with this one. it’s fun but -to me- it’s nothing groundbreaking or obviously belonging on a list like 1001 albums to listen to before you die.
favorite tracks:
malibu beach nightmare
until i get you
sailing down the tears
love AC/DC
favorite tracks:
shoot to thrill
givin the dog a bone
back in black
a fun listen. will it be something i regularly think about or go back to? probably not! but it was fun and (to me) sounds like what being in your 20s in the 00s in nyc would’ve sounded like.
favorite tracks:
is this it
barely legal
last nite
hard to explain
big, big fan of 70s music… but i don’t think steely dan is for me. some fun moments but just not my style
favorite tracks:
night by night
pretzel logic
with a gun
one of a kind, generational talent. maybe the most iconic voice of all time. good to know that frank sinatra is a yearner
favorite tracks:
mood indigo
i get along without you very well
deep in a dream
the kind of country i vibe with
favorite tracks:
big iron
billy the kid
the master’s call
in the valley
they reached their full level of whismy with this album
favorite tracks:
lucy in the sky with diamonds
with a little help from my friends
when i’m sixty-four
a day in the life
did not like - this is the first album i couldn’t finish. i’m sure there’s something i’m missing because jazz isn’t my normal genre but it just feels unsettling, unfinished, and off.
Uh… sure! I’m sure with a whole lot of context this album would be really really cool and transcendent but it just sounds like liminal space but in audio form. i’m also not an electronic music person so it just doesn’t resonate with me
paper planes is so good. the rest of the album; interesting, global, impactful… but just not for me
really fun; i can just picture people in the 80s dancing to this at a party or something
favorite tracks:
add it up
