Psychedelic Rock isn't a genre I'm terribly familiar with, most of my experience is with the Flaming Lips and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. That said, I can see how this album formed as a sort of primordial DNA for the genre. The version I ended up listening to is the stereo version, which with some light research I discovered is not the ideal. I could tell, as the stereo version.... did not sound great. That aside, I enjoyed listening to one of the early founders of a genre I have dabbled in. I very much love getting to the source of things and it was interesting to see how the genre started and then later evolved.

Fucking incredible. It was amazing listening to this piece of rap history for the first time. It’s awesome listening to an album after being a fan of the genre and realizing where a lot of your favorite artists and albums originated.
What an outstanding blend of jazz, psychedelic rock and other genres. The call and response of City, Country, City is gorgeous, this whole album was a blast from start to finish.
Fun album but nothing standout.
This would be better without the vocals but still an awesome listen.

The only good white rappers
While I understand how influential this album was, both from a listening and album art perspective; I can't help but feel like it hasn't aged as well as it should have. Part of it stems from being able to find works that have built off this album that are better, another is I just don't find it interesting sound-wise. If I heard this in 1979 I'm sure I would have lost my mind but it really feels dated in 2026.

It’s interesting listening to an album from a group that absolutely hated each other. Coming from the same scene that brought us Nirvana, it’s easy to hear where they came from. I’m tired while writing this. Anyway. Enjoyed overall

Oh my g-d this is abysmal dogshit. Banal, muddy vocals and instrumentation. The most generic late 2000s pop rock I can imagine. I would have went wild for this in 2008 but the fact that this occupies the same list as albums like SZA’s CTRL and Miles Davis In A Silent Way is a crime. How this is on here but not a single MF DOOM album is a bigger one. Knowing there’s more kings of Leon on the way is the biggest.
Big standard 80s rock
There are many crimes the British have to answer for. Hundreds of years of colonialism, oppression, racism, etc. etc. once we get through the long list of people owed reparations, we should also address their crimes to Music. If I wanted to listen to mediocre British Invasion era rock I would just toss on one of the less well loved Beatles albums.
I won’t keep harping on the point about how it’s offensive this album is on the list when so many others aren’t, as I could be saying that for so many other albums. But I very much struggle to understand why this is here so I decided to look into it. Wikipedia mentions this is one of the first Rock Operas, and while that is interesting, it doesn’t stop it from being garbage.
In fact that makes the omission of albums like Delton 3030 particularly galling. Please g-d I cannot take anymore average white men being elevated into this list and yet I know there will be.
The instrumentation has sparks where it sounds like it could get interesting but never actually achieves anything. Anytime I think a song is about to get good the singing starts and my mood sours.
Just because something helped originate a genre doesn’t mean it’s good.
I can only describe this genre as “damn he’s just on stage and he’s slangin’ it”.
This must have hit so hard if you were cis, straight, white, a teenager, and middle class in 1971.

I am sick to death of 60s era British rock albums. Once you heard one you truly have heard them all. I don’t care if this is considered one of Rock music’s first concept albums it isn’t good.
Unfortunately, Michael Jackson made some great music. Banger after banger. If I'm evaluating purely based off the music, 4.
Make some Illinoise
I have no idea how to rate this album to be honest. As a concept album, the idea of 69 love songs in various different genres as a commentary on the idea of love songs is a neat idea. Some of the songs are even fun to listen to. But would I listen to it again? Absolutely not. Do I think its also maybe a bit pretentious? 100%. Do I regret it? No. I do applaud unique experiences in music but listening to 3 straight hours of "love" songs was almost torture. The punchline wore out after the first volume. 2.5 but I'll round to 3.
