Fun and jolly but unfortunately too whimsy at times for me
I'm shocked at how good this was i was not expecting it to be so stacked with bangers. Definitely the best of the 7(!!!!!) albums I've listened to today
Roundabout is so iconic and i think it was a great choice to start and end the album with it. I actually preferred the rough mix.
So far I would even say this was the most enjoyable listening experience. There wasn't a single second I was bored or didn't like. It's really hard for me to pick my favourite...
I also love the huge contrast in track lengths (like a 1:40 song followed by an 8 minute one). I think the juxtaposition adds a lot to both.
Even in late January I enjoyed this and felt pretty Christmassy so that's testament to how good this is. I reckon I'll come back to this in December. That said, as an album so tied to one season, I don't think I can rate it too highly, hence the 3.
I liked the overall listening experience. I actually preferred the lesser known songs to the ones I've heard before. My favourite was exit
someone check his hard drive ASAP.
Surprised me a lot because I didn't think I would like this very much. It was good to listen to but only a couple of songs I will listen to again.
Ugh disappointed because I liked this for the first half an hour and then... yeah.
I hated the stupid ape noises the vocalist kept making, which I think is epitomised in 'do it better'. I genuinely started laughing because it was so awful. For the second half of the album I was seriously struggling to keep going but it wouldn't be a proper rating if I hadn't. 2 hours is way too long for an album anyway...
I like the overall vibe and the instrumentals and the long form few lyrics songs, only complaint is the last song felt a little unnecessary
I wouldn't normally think this was my type of music but I really enjoyed it. The drums were particularly good
I didn't even notice how long this album was so evidently it wasn't boring in the slightest. Obviously the clue is in the name but I loved the constant references to 'the wall', be it in many different ways. The storytelling is brilliant, particularly of course with 'another brick in the wall' 1, 2 and 3, 'the trial'. I still feel that there is something missing from this that I'd need to give it a 5.
All of the songs blurred into one and it was just like a wall of sound which I did not like
Oh dear me. If I had to summarise this listening experience it would be by saying that this made me understand why my mum hates jazz.
I really did like the piano and drums amd the overall rhythms of a lot of songs, but it was ruined by that godforsaken mosquito screeching of a trumpet. I genuinely felt like i was in a trumpet-induced psychosis at one point. The constant talking also didn't help.
I will say though that I can appreciate that this is a live album and had I experienced it myself I would probably have loved it
Very very very solid album I will listen to lots of the songs again
surprisingly enjoyable for the genre
It was good background music + I liked the instrumentals
Some hits and some misses, maybe too many nothing burger songs that detract from the really good ones. Also are the first few songs just about stalking someone or...
My least favourite bit was the vocals tbh. The songs were also a bit too short so I couldn't quite get into them.
I thought this would be great but it did not meet expectations. I don't normally pay that much attention to lyrics but I found that half the ones I was hearing were so...
I'm giving this a 3 not in a neutral way but in a completely torn way. That said I think I will come to a conclusive strong opinion on this when I give it a relisten. So the rating is definitely subject to change
I really loved the guitar. To the extent that on some songs the vocals felt almost unnecessary. Unfortunately some of the songs blurred together and didn't do much for me hence the 3
Started off well and then lulled a bit in the middle. My favourite song was 'vein melter', I think if the vibe had been more like that throughout I would've loved it. Not to say this wasn't good to listen to but that's the only song I will definitely come back to.
I really enjoyed this in a guilty pleasure way... the main issue was the remixes at the end which were so unnecessary. Like girl its hit me baby ONE more time not three...
Ugh this was just weird. But it did have potential... which was not used...
I liked some of the instrumentals, there was good use of guitar and drums. What I did not like were the vocals- not only were the lyrics so bad, the voice effects made them so much worse and to top it all off there was way too much screeching and screaming. Also the song and album names were really odd for no apparent reason. I think these guys think they were being edgy but all they achieved was being weird.
um! So. That was horrific. Even though it was a relatively short album I spent each of those 41 minutes wishing it would end before I ended myself.
'Nick cave and the bad seeds' isn't a very apt name because I'm pretty sure HE is the biggest problem here. Awful voice awful lyrics- well done for making me uncomfortable and jealous of deaf people.
I did like this a lot. I mean it is quintessential coldplay and miles better than anything they've made in the past ten years. I had this at a high 3 rounded down but upon reflection I literally favourited ⅔ of the songs on the album so it should definitely be a 4 #silly me
Another tough one to get through. At least it was only half an hour long though...
The woman's voice reminded me of Gillian Anderson's Blanche in the modern streetcar remake and that was NOT a good thing.
My expectations were pretty low so I must say this was incredible. I honestly can't find a slaw with this album's composition- perfect use of bridge tracks and song lengths. At times I found myself smiling because I was not aware that an album from 2019 that I'd never heard of could be so good.
I think my impression of the album over is summed up in 'I've been dazed'. I think incorporating elements like gospel can be quite hard however this achieves it perfectly. Ugh and then the delicious instrumental towards the end omg I started smiling because it kept getting better and better.
A good listen. I'm not sure about the 9 minute song in the middle of the album, maybe disrupted the flow a bit, but apart from that I liked it.
This was weird because I really liked the first song and the very last one.
HOWEVER. The rest of it was suuuuch a chore gosh. Must give them credit for being self-aware with 'somebody stop the music' because I really couldn't have agreed more. 2.5 rounded down.
the definition of nothing burger music
I couldn't remember how the music sounded less than an hour after listening
Definitely started off strong and went downhill. Clearly they had something going with the first track so I'm not sure how they managed to lose it for the rest of the album. I did like the overall vibe of it though. I felt like a changed person in a good way.
It was like eating one of those super sour sweets when it starts off just sweet, most of the time is like sensory hell in your mouth, but afterwards you're left with a surprisingly pleasant aftertaste.
This was unlike how I expected the rolling stones to sound, but in a good way. It wasn't incredible and I imagine they have better stuff in their discography but I would listen to some of these tracks again.
Boring boring boring so boring... Just the same thing repeated with slightly different lyrics for half an hour.
I love their attitude. Very British and fun and I will always support women shouting.
Woah this deserves a 3 just for the transition between 'dollar days' and 'i can't give everything away', which are the best songs on the album anyway. Debating between 3 and 4 for this because the music is good but some of the vocals were a bit off putting.
Well that's 45 minutes of my life I'll never get back...
This really reminded me of 'real women vote for trump'
How has she got 16m monthly listeners.
1.5 rounded up
Based on the artist and album name I was pretty apprehensive about this. I suppose I was relieved that it wasn't quite that bad but still... and that last track was really weird.
Bit of a hard one to rate because I loved the instrumentals, particularly on 'someone'. Lovely. The lyrics however were not so enjoyable... what the hell is up with this man and horses.
Another quite boring one.
Not mind blowing but kept me pretty entertained.
I didn't realise Rod Stewart was a musician so this was quite a surprise (I thought he was a football manager)
I was so shocked to see how old this album was!! Given that I'd say it's stood the test of time.
There were so many fun and interesting elements to this and I loved how each song was distinct whilst maintaining the overall vibe of the album.
I've also never listened to any music in Portuguese before so that was really cool (I kept being surprised at of how similar some things were to french).
The main problem with this album is that its by Kanye West.
That aside, it still sucks. The bad songs all somehow lasted ages whereas the alright songs were comparatively shorter unfortunately.
I did myself the disservice of reading the lyrics and I was disappointed (but not surprised) to see exactly the sort of stuff I was expecting- bad language just for the sake of it and misogyny.
I love how texturally interesting this is. And also somehow more immersive than a lot of other music?!? When I was listening to this I couldn't think about anything else. 4.5 rounded down just because I think the order of some of the songs could be tweaked a bit to make it more seamless.
I always thought the concept of Gorillaz was really cool, and I still really like the vibe of the music. I think in this album Damon Albarn was still finding his feet a bit so quite a lot of the tracks are lacking and I didn't particularly enjoy. However, I think this works brilliantly as an album if you listen to it as one whole thing. idk if that makes sense sorry ...
Very experimental but I found that fun. I also liked the one song that was in French for some reason?! Some of the instrumentals were a little abrasive but I liked the overall construct of the songs.
This album felt a bit darker than his previous one, and I really liked that. I'm a huge fan of acoustic guitar done well and this is a great example of that- its almost like there's more depth to the sound of it rather than just strumming. This album actually surpassed my expectations a lot, especially given the cover which I thought had a more mellow vibe to it.
no no no no no no no.
This was just horrendous. Even if I was coked up to the eyeballs I don't think I would've liked this.
'Nasal retentive calliope music' just about finished me off and then for the rest of the album I felt like I was making my way through the circles of hell.
Why am I alive
I feel like this was a god-sent recompense for having to listen to the horror show that was yesterday's album.
EXACTLY what I needed for a Sunday evening. Also this is completely different to the impression the album cover gives off.
I can't pinpoint what about this is so great- but I think that's its strength. Just beautifully made. I can't find a single thing I disliked about it.
Started off okay and got progressively more annoying. Not my type of music but I'm sure this was pretty out there during his time.
I really liked this. Despite its length, I felt engaged throughout which is pretty impressive. I liked the inclusion of different versions of some songs and found that on the second listen they became even better. A really good exploration of multiple genres of music and a well made album overall.
Very surprising?! This is so 80s. Which is not a bad thing. A bit too much talking but this was a fun listen.
I have very mixed feelings on this one. Especially given the length and cover of this album, I was expecting to hate it. I didn't exactly love it, but overall it wasn't bad and there were even some songs that I quite liked.
I really like the smiths, but this album I'd never heard much of before. I was really missing out, some of these are great. While I don't particularly like morrisey's vocals (or vegan agenda), I think their lyrics are always very fun and of course they have amazing instrumentals. I'm really struggling to pick a favourite song right now.
The lyrics of this were the fly in an otherwise perfectly good soup.
I know this is from the 60s but yeah... it's really showing its age...
Barely got 1 minute in before he's talking about becoming 'a procurer of young girls'. Safe to say that put me off immediately.
Started off so strong and just didn't quite maintain the same energy to the end. Still, I found this a good listen and might come back to some of these songs.
This was going really well to start, and I was going to give it a 4, but then there was a bit of a vibe shift and the second half was more like a 2.
This made me feel optimistic
Okay I'm sure this is pretty controversial but idk I was never a huge fan of David Bowie's vocals... and unfortunately I think this was particularly applicable for this album. I know he was much older when this was made but he does sound it. Nonetheless, there is some great music here.
This was alright. Just alright. I wouldn't listen to it again and it is most definitely not my sort of music but I can appreciate its good qualities and instrumental talent.
I'm confused on why this has so many high ratings. It was so bland. Like boiled chicken. I also felt like this album had no direction- I couldn't tell what they were trying to achieve with it.
Oh and. The end of 'Bess St.' sounded suspiciously similar to some instrumentals by Yes (who obviously did it better anhway)
Not my thing at all but still pretty good tbh.
I found the vocals hard to enjoy at first but they got better and better I thought. My favourite song was the last one. Something about this album is very Canadian... I will not elaborate on what I mean by that...
