The vocal delivery on the songs became grating very quickly on most songs. Most tracks weren’t very stimulating other than Dirt and Fun House which had some interesting moments
Treasure trove of fantastic guitar playing, drumming, vocal performance, and songwriting. Wind Cries Mary and May This Be Love were particularly exceptional, but the whole album is incredibly solid. Which is especially impressive given its length and breadth
The talk-singing is very hit or miss for me. The frustrating thing is that he sounds so good fully singing on songs like It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry, which is by far my favorite song on this album. Musicianship, songwriting, and overall sound is good, just not sold on his voice
I never really sat down and listened to a full Bowie album but this was fantastic. Loved the blend of experimental rock, pop, electronic, and ambient styles.
Every song kinda sounds the same. Definitely among my least favorites of rap from the 80s-90s. A lot of the beats sound like someone spamming stuff on a soundboard and the yeah boyeees get really old
His voice is insane. High-key better off without Garfunkel
Excellent musicianship, especially from Neil Peart, but I didn’t like the overall sound as much as most progressive rock. The vocals are a bit too screechy at points. I massively prefer Moving Pictures and A Farewell to Kings over their more hard-rock, metal sound.
Beautiful playing, singing, writing, and mixing. Peak music from a peak era
Not very interesting, fairly generic-sounding albeit slightly above-average house music. Not really something I’d ever listen to in any sort of mood though.
Cool instrumentals but vocals are hit or miss. Many of the songs are craving some effects on his voice to make it less dry and he doesn’t really have the technical ability to cut through the mix. Jesus, Etc. and Ashes of American Flags were my favorites
Stereo on headphones is rough but after listening to a mono recording it was pretty charming. Really cool songs and enough variety to keep me interested throughout the entire album
I’m biased more towards the riffy, vocal songs (Superstar, When It Hurts So Bad, Nothing Even Matters, Ex-Factor being my favorites) as opposed to ones that are just rapping just because she’s such a good vocalist. The other songs are fantastic though and provide the album with a lot of variety which make it a great an album to listen to front to back. One of the greatest albums of all time
I liked the upbeat songs a bit more than the jazzier ballads but the whole album was great. Fun instrumentation and great overall sound
Sounds like it maybe would have been a fun concert to have attended but not a good listen by any means. I was surprised to see this came out in the 60s, it seems very ahead of its time, but still wouldn’t listen under any circumstances
Great sound, lowkey wish it was entirely instrumental cause those tracks were definitely my favorites
What language was this in
The A side was a bit rockier than Low, which I didn’t prefer as much. I liked Sons of the Silent Age, but that was the only song from the first half I really liked. The ambient side of the album was cool with its use of a lot of world instruments, but I really only liked Moss Garden, but the ambient tracks were fairly repetitive and a bit more harsh-sounding than I would like.
Not too big on Christmas music, but these are classics
He had a really nice voice, and I like the brevity of the songs. They all kinda blend together which kinda gets old over time
Overall okay but I massively prefer the parts where Townshend sings. Daltrey is just a bit too shouty for me. The synthy stuff is pretty cool but the album dint really do much for me
Some of the instrumental parts were cool, but a lot of the more electronic elements took me out of it a bit. Not really something I’d listen to outside of this
Really good, I’d still probably rather listen to Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, or Marvin Gaye but I’ll for sure be checking out more of him!
Funk-rock doesn’t do it for me. The vocals were super cringy. Some of the Flea bass lines were cool but the overall instrumental feels like watered down funk with really heavy-handed drums and guitar, mostly makes me want to listen to the real stuff.
Great blues guitar, not so great singing. Legendary personnel though
Loved the style and sound, production was a bit too much at times and I’m not big on the interludes, but still good overall
Didn’t have as much crack in it as their first two albums as Rumours and their self-titled but still very good
I might’ve liked this better if the production wasn’t as harsh, but a lot of the time it sounded a bit distorted. She’s very technically good and has a great voice but it sounded a bit chaotic at times
Monk’s touch is a bit heavy for my taste, but the overall sound was great. The title track and Bemsha Swing were my favorites, with both songs having great Sonny Rollins solos. The solo piano track was also very nice and tasteful:)
Some cool moments especially with the vocal harmonies but the whole thing was a bit boring. Instrumental sections went on for too long in my opinion. Round & Round was by far my favorite song
Instrumentals sound like free Casio demo songs and don’t really evolve at all over time. Vocals were fine and had some cool moments but after looking at the guy’s wiki it kinda ruined it lol
Pretty fun but the songs are just too long. Not my favorite saxophone sound and some of the mixing especially on the drums/percussion was distracting.
Some of the instrumental elements were cool but his voice and the more experimental parts are so disruptive
Kinda amateurish, not really a fan of the songs or their sound
Didn’t make me feel nearly as much as Imperial Bedroom, but still pretty fun.
Hey, you. You're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border, right? Walked right into that Imperial ambush, same as us, and that thief over there.
Great, dreamy indie pop album. Makes me wish there was an album from The Sundays on this list :/
Cherry-coloured funk, heaven or Las Vegas, and Fotzepolitic were my favorite tracks by far
Great singing, instrumentals, sense of humor, everything
