The vocal delivery on the songs became grating very quickly on most songs. Most tracks weren’t very stimulating other than Dirt and Fun House which had some interesting moments
Treasure trove of fantastic guitar playing, drumming, vocal performance, and songwriting. Wind Cries Mary and May This Be Love were particularly exceptional, but the whole album is incredibly solid. Which is especially impressive given its length and breadth
The talk-singing is very hit or miss for me. The frustrating thing is that he sounds so good fully singing on songs like It Takes a Lot to Laugh, It Takes a Train to Cry, which is by far my favorite song on this album. Musicianship, songwriting, and overall sound is good, just not sold on his voice
I never really sat down and listened to a full Bowie album but this was fantastic. Loved the blend of experimental rock, pop, electronic, and ambient styles.
Every song kinda sounds the same. Definitely among my least favorites of rap from the 80s-90s. A lot of the beats sound like someone spamming stuff on a soundboard and the yeah boyeees get really old
His voice is insane. High-key better off without Garfunkel
Excellent musicianship, especially from Neil Peart, but I didn’t like the overall sound as much as most progressive rock. The vocals are a bit too screechy at points. I massively prefer Moving Pictures and A Farewell to Kings over their more hard-rock, metal sound.
Beautiful playing, singing, writing, and mixing. Peak music from a peak era
Not very interesting, fairly generic-sounding albeit slightly above-average house music. Not really something I’d ever listen to in any sort of mood though.
Cool instrumentals but vocals are hit or miss. Many of the songs are craving some effects on his voice to make it less dry and he doesn’t really have the technical ability to cut through the mix. Jesus, Etc. and Ashes of American Flags were my favorites
Stereo on headphones is rough but after listening to a mono recording it was pretty charming. Really cool songs and enough variety to keep me interested throughout the entire album
I’m biased more towards the riffy, vocal songs (Superstar, When It Hurts So Bad, Nothing Even Matters, Ex-Factor being my favorites) as opposed to ones that are just rapping just because she’s such a good vocalist. The other songs are fantastic though and provide the album with a lot of variety which make it a great an album to listen to front to back. One of the greatest albums of all time
I liked the upbeat songs a bit more than the jazzier ballads but the whole album was great. Fun instrumentation and great overall sound
Sounds like it maybe would have been a fun concert to have attended but not a good listen by any means. I was surprised to see this came out in the 60s, it seems very ahead of its time, but still wouldn’t listen under any circumstances
Great sound, lowkey wish it was entirely instrumental cause those tracks were definitely my favorites
What language was this in
The A side was a bit rockier than Low, which I didn’t prefer as much. I liked Sons of the Silent Age, but that was the only song from the first half I really liked. The ambient side of the album was cool with its use of a lot of world instruments, but I really only liked Moss Garden, but the ambient tracks were fairly repetitive and a bit more harsh-sounding than I would like.
Not too big on Christmas music, but these are classics
He had a really nice voice, and I like the brevity of the songs. They all kinda blend together which kinda gets old over time
Overall okay but I massively prefer the parts where Townshend sings. Daltrey is just a bit too shouty for me. The synthy stuff is pretty cool but the album dint really do much for me
Some of the instrumental parts were cool, but a lot of the more electronic elements took me out of it a bit. Not really something I’d listen to outside of this
Really good, I’d still probably rather listen to Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, or Marvin Gaye but I’ll for sure be checking out more of him!
Funk-rock doesn’t do it for me. The vocals were super cringy. Some of the Flea bass lines were cool but the overall instrumental feels like watered down funk with really heavy-handed drums and guitar, mostly makes me want to listen to the real stuff.
Great blues guitar, not so great singing. Legendary personnel though
Loved the style and sound, production was a bit too much at times and I’m not big on the interludes, but still good overall
Didn’t have as much crack in it as their first two albums as Rumours and their self-titled but still very good
I might’ve liked this better if the production wasn’t as harsh, but a lot of the time it sounded a bit distorted. She’s very technically good and has a great voice but it sounded a bit chaotic at times
A little more palatable than other punk, but I wouldn’t really listen to this
Take on me is a classic but a lot of the album sounded kinda pretentious. I also wish there was more variety, like some more ballads or slow songs. I thought The Sun Always Shines on TV stated really cool, but then the drum machine came in and it sounded like every other song on the album
Really really noisy and the horrible saxophone tone was painful to listen to. I was miraculously bored and overstimulated at the same time
I’m not super familiar with the different Cuban styles but this had such a good collection of different tempos and rhythms and the vocals and instrumentalists were so solid. Not something I’d put on for really any occasion but still really good
Cool album, didn't really make me feel much though I really liked Talkin' Blues though for some reason, and No Woman No Cry is also iconic
The vocals are awful and the instrumentals are super eh, I really didn't like any of it other than Sweet Child O Mine but that was also ruined by the vocals
I had only seen this album cover floating around online but this is so good. A little musical theater-y but in a way that I’m not mad at. His voice is great and I think the mixed meter stuff is done really tastefully, easy 5
I really liked whatever this was
The songs sounded very similar to eachother and I didn’t really like the talk-singing. The overall sound was decent but I got bored very quickly
I get it but it’s not for me:/
So much more depth than the last album. Absolute masterpiece with amazing musicianship and atmosphere. I was worried for a sec that I actually didn’t like Bob Marley lmao
Inoffensive, but irritating
The lyrics were so cringy, she has a terrible case of indie voice syndrome, and the instrumentals were extremely bland. I have no idea why this album is on this list but Pure Heroine isn’t
Sounds like really bland new wave, some tracks were fun but overall a bit boring. The mix was also really flat, which kinda goes with the 80s punk aesthetic but I wish the mix was more dynamic
I like her voice but I wish the instrumentals were a bit bolder. I liked the songs that leaned more into the moody, alt rock style but then there are dance-y pop songs after it which kinda ruins the vibe. I really liked a Stroke of Luck, Not My Idea, and Milk but not really any others
Cool and fun, I actually preferred his soprano sax playing over the tenor and I thought whoever played trombone on this was fantastic
It’s good at being what it is but it doesn’t really resonate with me. She’s a great singer and I like the aesthetic, but there’s something about the way it’s mixed and its overall sound I just don’t like. I would give it a 3.5 if I could but I can’t give it a 4
Started out really strong but got kinda old by the end of the album. He does some really cool things vocally but gets kinda loud by the end of the album. So close to being a 4 but not quite there for me
Love the jazz influence on this album. I didn’t know the backstory of it before this besides it just being his last album and listening to the full thing now gave me chills
Charming in a funny kinda way, I like the guys voice but I just can’t give an album more than a 3 if the singer can’t actually sing
Good, but not super exciting
So fun, really good musicianship. The trombone is crazy good and overall very good vibe
Does absolutely nothing for me in any way but I kinda get it
I guess I’m not on their level or something idk
As a drum teacher master of puppets sends me into fight or flight and the entire album sounds like that song
It’s just so good. Production and flow is unbeatable
Instrumentals are decent but I just can’t get behind the vocals. He gave me the ick
Monk’s touch is a bit heavy for my taste, but the overall sound was great. The title track and Bemsha Swing were my favorites, with both songs having great Sonny Rollins solos. The solo piano track was also very nice and tasteful:)
Some cool moments especially with the vocal harmonies but the whole thing was a bit boring. Instrumental sections went on for too long in my opinion. Round & Round was by far my favorite song
Instrumentals sound like free Casio demo songs and don’t really evolve at all over time. Vocals were fine and had some cool moments but after looking at the guy’s wiki it kinda ruined it lol
Pretty fun but the songs are just too long. Not my favorite saxophone sound and some of the mixing especially on the drums/percussion was distracting.
Some of the instrumental elements were cool but his voice and the more experimental parts are so disruptive
Kinda amateurish, not really a fan of the songs or their sound
Didn’t make me feel nearly as much as Imperial Bedroom, but still pretty fun.
Hey, you. You're finally awake. You were trying to cross the border, right? Walked right into that Imperial ambush, same as us, and that thief over there.
Great, dreamy indie pop album. Makes me wish there was an album from The Sundays on this list :/
Cherry-coloured funk, heaven or Las Vegas, and Fotzepolitic were my favorite tracks by far
Great singing, instrumentals, sense of humor, everything
I remember this not really being my favorite but it really hit this time. I think listening through the entire album does it justice, tons of great songs that I never really payed attention to and of course some classics
Very solid Brazilian album with a variety of different styles. Didn’t appreciate the jumpscare but I forgive her. Not mind-blowing, but very good
Very well executed but not really something I’d listen to. Didn’t find it particularly interesting
Really cool, didn’t think I would like it as much as I did
Kinda crazy that this came out in the 60s. Sounded ahead of its time in a way but unfortunately not in a way that sounded good:(
This surprised me in a good way. I’m not the hugest fan of Paul McCartney’s solo stuff but this was solid
The first track set my hopes high for this to be some quirky, spacey, ethereal album but then it just kinda turned into a rock album with some gimmicky effects. Some interesting moments but not enough to warrant being longer than an hour
Better than the last one but vocals are still a weak point. He actually sounded good on a few songs but he sings out of his range/character so much that there’s some sour notes in every song. Instrumentals were hit and miss, especially the strings. Last one was a super low 2 and this one is on the higher end but still definitely a 2
I appreciate the skill of the sitar playing but I wish it wasn’t dumbed down to playing hippie cover songs
Sail to the moon and I will were pretty but the rest was only okay. Mostly felt like filler but had some cool moments
I was surprised by how much I liked it. The synths were so fun and I actually liked the vocals
Very cool and well-executed but the forms of each song were very similar to eachother and was too repetitive to listen to as an album
Even better than I remember, but somehow I think I still like blond better. Pyramids, Sweet Life, Pilot Jones, and Lost were the standouts for me
This guy looks a lot like TPUSA sweetheart country legend Robert Ritchie
Some songs were amazing and some songs were mid, I think that nets out to a 4
The songs were fine but kinda droned on without really changing in any way
Someone get this man his inhaler
