Has some nice and chill vibes. Classic and recognizable hits as well. Doesn't stand out too much, but a pretty good addition to a playlist.
Solid early 2000s hip-hop vibes. Very good production throughout, with no one song standing out too much. A well rounded experience for hip-hop listeners looking for a pretty good album to add to their playlists.
Really enjoyed a lot of the instrumentals on this album. A interesting mix of jazzy-blues and singer-songwriter/folk vocals. It doesn't stand out too much to me, but it's not inoffensive at all. It's a warm, cozy cup of coffee on a cool autumn day.
A bit inconsistent in its sound and vibes, but it has deeper messages underneath the surface. Not something that I personally enjoyed, but I can see how someone would be attached to this album. A decent first time listen for myself.
Absolutely phenomenal album, front to back. Every song is worth a listen, and with the album having no song that made me want to skip listening to it, I truly think this deserves a 5 star rating. Overall vibes are immaculate, and I caught myself head banging multiple times throughout my initial listen. I'll definitely be re-visiting this project many times in the future.
A solid and nostalgic album. There are some commercial hits here and memorable moments. Very good listening experience.
A very unique experience. Worth a first time listen. Amazing commentary throughout and a really REALLY good drum duet on the last track.
A bit too chaotic and unhinged for me. I can see how some may enjoy this, but unfortunately, I did not.
A wonderful and fun listen. The vibes are immaculate and there are plenty of tracks on here that I will be revisited often.
A pleasantly surprising album with a handful of great moments. An interesting mix of classical elements with pop singing and vibes. It didn't blow me away, but it wasn't inoffensive either. Great for those looking for a new experience.
A nostalgic album with plenty of hits and memorable tracks. It ebbs and flows between chill vibes and exciting moments. Overall, solid listen with many tracks that are good to go back to over and over again.
A very unique Blues project. A fusion of Blues and African folk music, I was completely blown away immediately upon opening the song. Each song provided a different experience and vibe. The instrumentation was immaculate and the addition of traditional African beats and rhythms blended seamlessly with the overall Blues vibes. Absolutely worth a listen and maybe more.
The vocal delivery throughout this project was very unique and continuously drew me into each track. Overall, and interesting sound that didn't really catch me fully, but I was pleasantly amused throughout my listen.
While going through the 1001 albums, I've tried to take each project at face value, without any surrounding context. Just listen to and judge the music as it comes. However, the context behind Elvis and his music just can't be ignored for me. The appeal to Elvis Presley is not anything he's recorded. His music is very dry, diluted, and boring. The appeal for Elvis Presley is his performance and his appearance. He's even quoted with saying, "I don't know anything about music. In my line, you don't have to." Many interpret as him being raw, and 'feeling' the music. I interpret this as him not actually caring about he roots of where his genre of music came from, and him being more interested in his fame and popularity at the time. And, he was very popular. It's been said that before Presley, there was nothing. An exaggeration, for sure, there was plenty before Presley (namely, people of color, but let's not get into that right now). He was a pioneer that popularized a new kind of music in America. And for that I give him great credit (But only slightly). As for this album, hard pass for me.
A little too dark and moody for me. The overall project I would describe as a muddy experience.
The quintessential old school hip-hop. I recognize it's importance to the rap game and hip-hop as a whole, but for me personally, this album doesn't really age that well for everyday listening. A magnificent piece of rap history that should probably just stay like that. History.
Not really blown away by this project. It had some interesting grooves, rhythms, and beats. But, the overall tracklist fell flat in terms of the cohesion.
A very beautiful and atmospheric project. Not my cup of tea, but I was blown away at the emotion that this album provides, even as this kind of sound isn't typically to my taste.
