Favourite of mine back in college. Page and Bonham are legends and know some of the songs like back of my hand. Easy 10/10
I do not like this. Coming after Houses of the Holy really highlights the difference in songwriting abilities between Led Zeppelin and GnR. Axel Rose's voice eternally grates me, but added points for how timelessly awesome the Sweet Child of Mine rift is. Van Halen is better
"I heard the snake was baffled by his sin, he shed his scales to find the snake within, but born again is born without a skin"
UUURRRGGGHHH
One of the GOATs with his epic conclusion to his incredible life
Probably the greatest collection of music anyone has ever put together. Impossible to overrate. 6/5 and whatever the other 5 star albums end up being are gonna pale in comparison
Tom & Jerry music. Incredible voice and obviously good but not something you’d actively listen to. Nothing too memorable musically or lyrically. Also really fricking long
Second Stevie in 3 days. More mellow and ballad focused than SitKoL but keeps that incredible mix of instruments you associate with Stevie Wonder. You and I is a standout for me.
Damn catchy
Not as crap as I was expecting. There’s some really good songs in this if you can get past the questionable vocals and lyrics. Wish there was a bit more to talk about in terms of guitars, but the drumming heavily carries this album
I love this album because its quirky, good to dance to and fun to listen to the words. I love the beastie boys because they're different and both their voices are different to each other. my favourites of their song are egg man and car theif because i love listening to the words.
An album I imagine it’s impossible for me to appreciate how completely new this sounded for people in the 70s. Kraftwerk have a slightly indescribable charm to them that I’ve always loved. Although I do prefer trans Europe express, this is an all time electronic classic and if you said it was the greatest electronic ever it’d be hard to argue against
Absolutely loved it. Great example of how non binary songwriting can be so captivating. Feels like Cameron Winter took a lot from this guy. Instrumentals are so rich and deep. 6 amazingly unique songs. A genuine surprise 5/5 album. Awful bloke though
Only real critique is it could use a greater diversification of sound. A top 3 grunge album with one of rocks most tragic front men. These guys are the only other grunge band I can place near nirvana. Jerry Cantrell is such a brilliant guitarist
Really solid album. Don’t listen to Elvis much but he is a truly underrated singer. Always a little hesitant to give too much credit to someone who doesn’t write their songs or compose the music, but doesn’t stop this from being a good album. Catchy, swingy and some all time classic songs on this
Pretty rubbish album. Boring, uninspiring
Some nostalgic bangers of here. When we were young and send me love being the two best in my opinion. You can’t really overrate Adele as a singer, but I do think the songs get more boring as the album goes on. Still very solid
Great album. An awesome mix of dance and post punk that you feel cool as fuck listening to. Great bass lines, James Murphy’s vocals are effortlessly cool, and the beats are mesmerising. There is one dance punk album I feel is slightly better though…
Fun album. Odd to think this is only a decade before the White Album or the VU&N. A snapshot into a completely different world from ours now. All the songs are groovy, even if they don’t always go somewhere. Definitely worth a listen
The thing that will always frustrate me with blues is how similar it all sounds. This is clearly great music by incredible musicians but it ends up being some predictable and generically ‘bluesy’. The piano is killer, but when I listen to other artists like Nina Simone and Cream it makes me think how varied and exciting blues can be. Eh
Why has it taken me so long to find this guy. Happy sad was a shock 5/5 for me and Greetings from LA swaps the soft but intricate jazz folk for a funk rock sound. There’s better funk rock out there, but this is still fantastic. Like Jim Morrison, James Brown and the Stones merged into one 40 minute long rocker
Very average compared to what was to come. Fair to say the lyrics on this album have aged poorly, but it’s still the stones and they’re still the zenith of blues rock. Worth a listen if only to see the beginnings of the band that would make Let it Bleed and Exile on Main Street
Banger after banger after banger. An amazing of edm with some rock and really interesting vocals. Really listenable for a long album, and the final track is killer. Also the cover is sick
Probably the best guitar you’ll hear in a punk album. Odd to think punk wouldn’t explode until 1976 when the stooges already had that 3 album run by 1973. This album is Iggy at his best, and the best version of the stooges from a strictly musical point of view. I prefer Fun House, but this is still a classic of that proto punk sound from the 60s and early 70s
Some good soul. Nothing to mind blowing.
Randy Marsh made this? Really great pop album. I should give Lorde and pop in general more of a chance
Like ween and the specials mixed together. Immaculate vibes and some great songwriting. Amazingly creative if a little operative at times. Never heard of them before so this was a great surprise
One of the best ever with one his best.
What a voice. What an album
Very forgettable. Never understood Rod Stewart’s being considered up there with the other British blues greats. Maggie May is a fine song, but there’s nothing here that can hold a finger to cream, the stones, Fleetwood Mac, etc…
Completely surprised by this. Based of the cover and a few descriptions I was expecting a campy Ramones. This is better than every Ramones album I’ve heard. Genius lyricism with lines such as ‘ We don't judge you by your face, First we check to see what you eat, Then we bend down and smell your feet’. Some killer guitar, memorable front man. Even a surprisingly solid cover of I Got You Babe. Just a weird as hell album cover. But that’s part of it I guess
