Gillian WelchLove her albums … The songs keep giving
Love her albums … The songs keep giving
Bernie. Edwards. Makes it a 5.
Just ok Well made but pretty vanilla really
Seminal …. Fruits all through the 80s and beyond … with Devo and Dave Byrne/talking heads … Something was brewing
Always on … Raw … live feeling … dark and darkly funny … desperate in places … I want you … (which is amazing -when I’ve seen it played live) Blue Chair … the pop songs are great with more dark bits …Crimes of Paris … Massive fan of his writing … and WHAT A BAND … Steve and Pete and Bruce are tremendous
Singles and 60’s comps about coverbit for me ... like Bobby’s California Dreaming more ...
A favourite Still fresh ... so influential
A regular listen ...
Not for me It feels too cold ...
...always had a soft spot for this album
… some fun tunes … titillating but the imperatives get a little tiresome
Smooth …. great songs … great voice … they feel clever rather than moving
Familiar glam flavours … Bowie, Roxy and 50’s recreations Like the more left field Eno
Love King Billy And the tension between Wilco And some brilliant songs + Natalie Merchant
Took me back Loved some of the songs …the ones with darkness at the edges
Good fun … just know them all without consciously seeking them out
My favourite ‘chop
Soundscape … filmic … some great passages
No … that voice gets on my pip
No mistaking the decade … 18 when this came out … and I liked them then …some great pop tunes … some beautiful writing … I do struggle with the production massive reverb over everything … ultimately gets in the way for me
I like this … not listened to them before …. Great opening track … nice bass … Big Tim Buckley fan
Great tones, lovely licks, Sultans is a great song … the straighter rock n roll tunes feel a little too square when I go back to this …
Played it to bits when it came out … But don’t really go back to it … 🤔 Some great songs and not even 20 from the heart lyrics and very immediate vocal performances … takes me back to a time and place in the soundtrack of my life
Not my favourite Cure album … a little bit all in the same place … Pictures of you my favourite track
Asleep at the back and THIS … lyrics are so good …
So familiar … had this on vinyl … no idea where that has gone … Enjoyed going back
What’s left to say? Sublime … everytime … Hit me with a flower …
Just can’t ….
Love her albums … The songs keep giving
Seminal …. Fruits all through the 80s and beyond … with Devo and Dave Byrne/talking heads … Something was brewing
Can’t get into him …
Sounds like a compilation … doesn’t feel coherent as a whole piece … which kind of matters when thinking of these albums as an experience Some enjoyable songs … nice bass …
Some great songs … Huge production and monster arrangements … not what i go to or want from an album … a Bind theme or three in there
Bernie. Edwards. Makes it a 5.
They sound like the Clash playing Dexys on this one
Always on … Raw … live feeling … dark and darkly funny … desperate in places … I want you … (which is amazing -when I’ve seen it played live) Blue Chair … the pop songs are great with more dark bits …Crimes of Paris … Massive fan of his writing … and WHAT A BAND … Steve and Pete and Bruce are tremendous
Just ok Well made but pretty vanilla really
Liked it more than I thought I would Some good tracks hiding amongst the singles… Father Figure … one more try
Leaves a bit cold … 😬 Sax is great though
Ok .., hear the Scottishness in some of the melodies …. More pop than i thought it might be
Love Burt Like the later things more … Avocet for instance
3…. Nearly a 4 … some great tunes and playing
Kind of always in the ether their songs The music does interesting things melodically, time signatures, key changes etc … great pop writing undoubtedly…Just the relentless strutting rhythms get on my bits …
Some good songs Bit of a soundtrack to the end of my teenage years …
Listened a lot when it came out It’s a great record … English as …
Couldnt manage it all
How have i not heard this before? A treat start to finish.
Can’t not be 5
I’d like a 4 but meanders a bit too much Some great tunes and great playing
No thanks
Hasn’t aged very well Awful … vapid … tedious
Loved this for the longest time Love the Fela nod on this album
…mmm I have a massive Bruce blind spot - sorry All sounds toooooo much …. All sound a bit like dancing in the dark
Loved it Just in so many things … hard to imagine punk without it
Love Curtis …
Like a warm bath …
Maybe -an extra half for some of Hooky’s bass
Some good songs A but relentlessly similar Shouldni add or remove a star for the styli phone?
I can’t do this
Just a soundtrack to some life events … can’t separate the music from from the moments
Big John Grant fan Like the sharper edges of Pale Green Ghosts … but great tunes on this You’ll be singing chicken bones out loud in the supermarket …
Pretty ugly vocals …
This … or Blood on the tracks … is my favourite Dylan album … depends when tou ask me … favourite sets of Dylan lyrics
All time fave
A bit too MOR yawn
Tea for the Tillerman and Teaser and the fire cat are a pair of albums that got me through my late teens and the songs are just a part of me …
Too much … wrong end of Christmas day No more mince pies
Urgh… insincere Didn’t like it then … don’t like now
Loved this album back then Great to go back to the dub grooves … top musicians on it … Great bass, guitar and drums even after all … A strong 4
Dull … macho … nonsense… yuk
Too straight for me Like a bit more bite, a but more darkness In my country … Love GP,
Just… no (Although I did buy it … and I quite like Yellow … shhh)
Love Tim Prefer the hippy shiz tho’ Happy Sad and the live Album is immense Great grooves - Just the dated lyrics and all the misogynistic cringe on it … Also find it very sad thinking about Jeff and his young family and all of that history … Still …some pipes on the chap
Gone back for a listen … No surprises, nothing intriguing hiding inside, never really a fan Just leaves me a bit cold to be honest …
Bit Marmite isn’t it … I enjoyed it back then… but is a bit overplayed and doesn’t stand up to re-listening … Massive Attack
Tony Visconti … strings arrangement and drum sounds Bowie and Bolan 70s flavour Fun to go back to …
Clever music in buts Lots of references … Just a bit thin and some nasty noises
Didn’t know this my punk is British Two voices are good Moves to David Byrne places … I’d listen to early Talking Heads The straighter rock and roll lines jump out and feel slightly naff … But enjoyable A bit
Raised on it Songs are great Some production definitely of its time I tend to go back to some live recordings when I want some Jimi Mitch on drums though … so good
Brilliant return from Bob Mould -a great songwriter Loved Husker Dü always melodic These songs pull that forward plus plus Every song is a cracker Some great break up songs … beautifully dark in places Solid album - I played and played it - 30 years ago 😳
Keys led songs Like to hear some different arrangements of a few of them A bit relentless … ba ba baaaaa
Feels more rock than punk A bit tedious
Quite enjoyable Like a few of the tunes … Anyone else getting a load of 90s american rockpunk?
Call me a heretic … never loved them Not down on it but never got what others seemed to get Preferred brit punk pop sounds (Well I am a Brit) Prefer Bob Mould as a songwriter
It’s ok Listened at the time His voice gets on my tits a bit … Some decent songs …. Very safe really Of.The.Time. (Better than Oasis)
Like where it’s heading … Great Funk Brothers backing Solid Motown
Love this band Love how this has the rub of Fela Kuti and moving towards the next albums Some of my favourite tracks … even if the Stop Making Sense live versions are wven better in my ears Why go to college …
What is this …. The Devil’s interval …
A bit annoying
