Meat Is Murder
The SmithsJohnny Marr is one of my top-three underrated guitarists. I can't stand Morrisey.
Johnny Marr is one of my top-three underrated guitarists. I can't stand Morrisey.
I just don't like Radiohead.
It's Coldplay. Bland and repetitive.
Paul Simon is definitely a top-of-the-list song writer and Art Garfunkel can harmonize with anyone, I knew the songs but only listened to their albums recently (last 5 years). There is a very nice flow to them.
DP is a very talented bad and very under-rated. John Lord and Ritchie Blackmore playing over a driving rhythm section (Glover & Paice). This album really captures that.
Always liked The Who, but never truly appreciated them for their collective talent until recently. It was sparked by this album. Surely, there are many classics on here, But, the genius and musicianship are often hidden when the songs are overplayed. For me, I really began to appreciate Moon and Entwistle, both separate and together on this album, which only grew as I would re-listen to the other Who albums.
This is not really my style of music and I have limited exposure to it. To me, it lacked the pulsating drive of others I have heard. Probably not qualified to rate this.
Better than expected. Very mature songwriting for a first album. They try a little bit of everything, but there is no common theme running through the album. I prefer albums that are more than just a collection of songs.
When I first heard BB King I was disappointed. He just sat in half circle with his band and played a very slow-paced show. It was much later in his life though. It took me years to listen tp him again. Hearing these live shows from the 60s is what made me appreciate him for his greatness.
There were a few really good songs. But sometimes a little to over -produced for a Woody Guthrie song. Think of a combo of Woody + the Beatles.
Always new who he was, but this is first time listening to an album of his. Real good song writer. What ever happened to this good style of R&B.
I do want to like RHCP, but just can't seem to get into them. Flea and Chad Smith lay down a good groove, but the actual songs don't do that much for me. Maybe a few more listens are needed
one of the best from the stones. this was in the midst of their great time. I lie the drunken swaggering bar band sounds.
Paul Simon is definitely a top-of-the-list song writer and Art Garfunkel can harmonize with anyone, I knew the songs but only listened to their albums recently (last 5 years). There is a very nice flow to them.
Marvin Gaye is the third best soul singer behind Sam Cooke and Otis Redding, in my opinion. Although the best songwriter of those three. I used Let's Get It On as my wedding song.
A true album that is more than just a collection of songs. I need to give it another good listen.
I don't usually listen to rap, but when I do it is these OGs like Ice-T. This early stuff is raw and powerful, like the beginnings of punk. Really good album
Didn't realize they stemmed from the Minutemen. Hurley and Watt are dynamite. Solid album.
compared against their contemporaries, run-dmc doesn't quite match up for me, but this is still better than any rap album today. really not a fan of their version of walk this way.
I didn't think much of this when it came out. After a good listen it sounds a lot like what Bowie was doing at the time
OK, I like the Byrds and I like Gram Parsons, so of course I like this album. Is it the Byrds best? No, but its up there.
the musicianship is top-notch here. very beautiful sounding album.
U2 has lately become a band I respect more than like. It started with this album. I liked the earlier stuff better.
one of the better representations of the early 80s. I like a couple of the songs,
JLH is a legend. This album is one of his better latter albums. Still a little too polished.
DP is a very talented bad and very under-rated. John Lord and Ritchie Blackmore playing over a driving rhythm section (Glover & Paice). This album really captures that.
IF you haven't listened to a talking heads album, you should. The first time I heard one I was amazed. this is the first time listening to this one and same effect.
You can trace the roots of bluegrass, Cajun, and even country music style back to the folk music of other lands.I don't listen to Irish music much but this was a fun album to listen. I wanted to get up and dance a jig sometimes.
Johnny Marr is one of my top-three underrated guitarists. I can't stand Morrisey.
Tito Puente is one of the great band leaders and Mambo is such a fun music. It's like danceable jazz music.
Dylan has better albums but this kicked off his best period (up until about 1976). A watershed moment.
It's Coldplay. Bland and repetitive.
The album has a good flow start to finish. A decent listen if you are in the right mood
Syd Barrett was a gifted musician and songwriter. Mental health is still poorly understood. But out of tragedy comes a great album.
Johnny Cash's best albums are this and Folsom. This one is nice because it has Carl Perkins, the Carters, and even the Statler Brothers. I would hate to have to go to prison to see that lineup.
Really not my cup of tea, Chanson.
of this genre, the chemical brothers are my favorite. Their music is always driving forward.
This was a pleasant surprise, not really sure on who he was (and am embarrassed to say so). But I will check out more by Weller and the Jam.
I am late-comer to Husker Du, but I love the energy with hints of melody thrown in. Big fan of this album especially.
Steve Marriott has a great voice. Although I prefer his work with Humble Pie, this was very good just not as bluesy.
Just not a fan of the Cure. This one seemed too lethargic for my taste.
Been a fan of this album for a while. ABB is much better live than what their studio albums portray. If you like this check out Ludlow Garage with a 45-min Mountain Jam.
Public Enemy and NWA transcended rap music from the OG's, after them it became diluted crap. What more must be said. The message may be uncomfortable but it was raw and honest.
There were a few moments of melodic punk which I enjoyed but these came later on the album.
I actually listened to this album once before. In both cases, there was nothing for me to grab a hold. Its probably a taste thing more than anything else
What can you say about this album?!? The defining album of one of greatest bands.
Some of this was a little over-the-top symphonic swirling. This round of britpop wasn't as good as as others.
This is packed full of good songs but it also has my favorite song, Caravan.
Curtis Mayfield is a musical and poetic genius who is not afraid to push a few buttons.
A perfect example of the seventies soft rock. A pleasant album.
AC/DC is usually considered as over-rated, but they may also be under-appreciated. It is simply rock-n-roll. You can hear their influence in some of the garage-band revivalist like JET. They are worth another open-minded listen.
CCR is often considered one the best American bands. They are but most of it was John Fogerty. Regardless, this album is very. Especially like graveyard train.
A little too out-there for me.
This type of pop-rock is a secret pleasure of mine.
Really just an OK album for me. Nothing that made me go WOW, but nothing to make me turn it off.
This seems a transition between OG (rap style) and OG 2.0 (music behind the rap). I prefer the OG.
too ethereal for me.
they did not get enough attention as some of the other seattle bands, but just as giid
An under-appreciated genius. There is some serious funk underlying the jazz. Talk about fusion.
first time listening to whole album and she is a very good singer-songwriter following the line of nina simone.
It became too repetitive at times
This album really helped define their sound. There are many good songs on it.
overrated
Neil Young has a way with simplicity, making more with less. this was a good period for him.
Not bad, but there are other neo-gargage bands that I prefer.
Give him some credit for talent but not my cup of tea
good driving techno
They explore many different avenues and styles, which is great but there will be somethings you like and don't like. It was hard for me to stay consistent with this album b/c I could not find a common thread.
My secret pleasure!
The beginnings of garage rock. Heard of them but not heard the album. A lot of covers but a good rocker
SY is a very talented band. They might fall into the category of respect more than like, though for me.
I just don't like Radiohead.
Some of these early metal albums pretty good, not much far away from Black sabbath
First time I listened to this album. He is a gifted song-writer and it made me want to listen to his other two. Another one gone too early.
a good fun ska album. heard of them before, but either forgot or never knew they were ska.
surprised. a throwback for sure. hints of curtis mayfield were nice
elo combines my 2 favorite genres rock and classical. there are a lot of my favorite elo songs on this album.
some great singers and well produced songs, but phil spector
musically, not what i would have thought of as being called a folk singer. very experimental and interesting.
not being a fan of electric music, it was hard for me to get into.
again, not really my style
heard some of these before and didn't realize it was john prine. a big find for me
Does this need any comments.
not what i expected from the cure. not having robert smith sing helped
wasn't really in the mood for punk on a monday, but still a good listen.
before metal went glammy and pop there were bands like judas priest that kicked. the classic songs on this album make it a must
second greatest soul singer behind sam cooke. man otis could really sing
sometimes you forget how good they were. what talent all-around
we all know the hits, but there are some other good tracks on the album. it was a good comeback for her, an emancipation.
iconic, from the album cover through the last note of train in vain.
not really a fan of speed metal but give them credit for their skill
right up there with all the other good funk albums.
wow. great voice, great song construction. she is definitely at the top.
