Effective concept, if not too effective as it seems like it's a listen once and never again haha.
Less african-sounding than was led to believe based on reading the wiki. Has a classic 80s cheese present throughout. * Homeless
Good for what it is. Do not listen to for more than 30 minutes at a time
Great album overall, minus the jam that never gets off the ground * 21st Century Schizoid Man * In the Court of the Crimson King
Insane energy, by far the most energetic live album I've heard and it's both intimate and loud.
Really enjoyed listening to this, lots of nostalgia in the sound of this. I definitely hear parallels to rock songwriting of the 60s like The Zombies, Mamas & the Papas, etc but with an updated production style from the 80s. Hearing a breakbeat in the opening bars of Fools Gold was also a fantastic segue into what the 90s had in store for music. * I Wanna Be Adored * Bye Bye Bad Man * Made of Stone * I Am the Resurrection
Great album, lots of great heavy riffs mixed with interesting chord progressions to give a little something for everyone. Ambitious keyboard + guitar work, and what's not to love listening to the OG Jesus Christ Superstar wailing away? * Speed King * Flight of the Rat
Very one-note, interesting to hear how a lot of the progressions within blues have changed and how the cliches sounded at the time vs blues now.
Cool sound, interesting timbres and textures, but her voice really is the same every single song and I felt like I got no respite from her voice.
Please Stop Singing
This and CotCK are the types of albums I embarked on this journey to find. Overall I'm super impressed with how good this album sounds, both on a musical level and a technical one. Really tight playing and great mixing to really bring out the interesting bits of each song. * War Pigs * Paranoid * Iron Man * Hand of Doom War Pigs - great mixing, great vocals, great riffs, great song Paranoid - annoying sound in right ear lol
Second half of the album hit my sweet spot
Effective concept, if not too effective as it seems like it's a listen once and never again haha.
This album just feels great to listen to. Great drums in the pocket, harmonies and progressions keep you guessing in a good way, and is super cohesive. * Playground Love * Dirty Trip
Lots of classic Offspring on this album, but boy this album really wears your ears out listening to it start to finish. This might be the first album we've listened to that has a "secret" track at the end of the last track on the album which is definitely a relic of the medium, but it's got a fun little play on the riff from Come out and Play. * Bad Habit * Gotta Get Away * Genocide * Come out and Play * Self Esteem
This is quintessentially Jane's Addiction: loud unintelligible singer, washed out stereo guitars, and general loudness. * Obvious * Been caught stealing * Three days
Fun jam album, seems like it was pretty influential to many other jam bands as were as others from the era
I remember this being a big departure from the "REAL" green day back in the day and listening back to it I feel as if it's trying to be inflammatory but not too much so as to not offend people for real.
Completely unexpected. So many good riffs and little melodies, great guitar and bass tone and really dynamic progressions that keep you guessing and driving the songs forwards. I can't wait to listen to this again and actually pay attention to the lyrics since musically this is a pure standout album. * Grace * Lover, You Should've Come Over * Eternal Life * Dream Brother
it's blues, it's aite
Some good guitar, opener has a nice hook, otherwise difficult to get through (just can't get into her voice) * Move Over
Cool for what it is, a la Suicide, and I'll probably never listen to it again
Some nice arrangements, good funk sound and pretty different progressions, though mostly inline with what I think of a typical Bowie song. Mix was not great, and even though he's turned up to 11 I still cannot for the life of me understand what he's saying
It's alright. I got lulled into a false sense of security with the opener before I remembered it was a Beastie Boys album.
I think this is good? Honestly it's 90 minutes long and has 30 tracks so it's hard to really get a good grasp on this after just one listen, but I think I enjoyed it. Plenty of iv6 chords and it was fun listening to all the different contexts they're used in.
Solid. Slow. Gay. * Hard Day * Hand to Mouth * Look at Your Hands
2 star album, 0 star cover
Some great songs, but nearly all overstay their welcome * Independent Women, Pt. 1 * Survivor * Dance With Me
Definitely maybayyyyyyyyyyy Yo this album is LOUD.
Some catchy hooks and riffs, still has the classic 80s cheese
W beats L lyrics
Definitely ahead of its time, pretty samey in the first half but nice changes in the second.
Some really good songs on here, but man did this album not need to be 75 minutes long
Overall, just very scattered. Lots of neat ideas and nice atmospheres, but ultimately it lacks a focus that I would have loved to see applied to the first 3 tracks.
Some good tunes, but his voice + the lyrics I heard were enough to wish it was an instrumental
Less developed than later albums and while it's cool what it did for noise rock in general, I find it to not be particularly engaging or pleasant to listen to.
Some fun ones on here, overall found it a little less polished than Fairport Convention's Liege & Lief
Really enjoyable, impressed with how strong this album is from start to finish
Super funky, very catchy, definitely sad.
zzzzzzzzzzzzzz
fun album, lays foundations for later IM albums
