1001 Albums Summary

I really enjoyed the guitar tone in this. A solid 4/5; would listen again.

I like King Gizzard a lot, and I enjoyed this, though I don't think it's my favorite of theirs (Laminated Denim and Flying Microtonal Banana are two I prefer). Still, a comfortable four.

Another album where I like the band but don't feel the chosen album is their best work. "People Everywhere" is the standout track on here for me.

I forced myself to listen to metal albums I hated on the main list, but I'm afraid I'm not going to do that here. Three tracks is enough to tell me this is not for me.

I don't love Cameron's voice, and I found the music a little forgettable (veering in places towards irritating), although I enjoyed the Angel Olson feature.

I liked Mirror. I don't particularly like Heaton's vocals, whether he's doing a bad Tom Waits impression or not.(But it's worse when he is; that song is dreadful). A low three.

Makes me feel like I'm listening to my local college radio station. I like a bit of dub. Strong four stars.

I've never really been on board with Vampire Weekend, despite it being, on paper, something I might like. This didn't change that; it just doesn't do it for me.

I'd never heard of this band, but once I'd warmed up to the falsetto, I liked this a lot. A high four that I think with repeated listening could become a five.

I found this pleasant, if perhaps a little samey. But there's no doubt these two can play; I was impressed at the virtuosity. Note: listened to this on a plane, which is always suboptimal. Maybe this is a four in another setting.

This is very good at what it does, and the big hits from it are bangers. Not something I'd typically listen to, but I certainly appreciate the quality (and it should probably be on the original list).

Sinner sounded like a Sparks song, and Nothing Matters is very Abba-esque. I liked this a fair bit, even though some of it teetered on the edge of overly theatrical for me.

Look, I get why people might like Tool. They're doing interesting stuff, but it just isn't my thing. Also, it's sooooo long.

I really dislike the singer's vocals. And yet another album that is much longer than it needs to be. Sorry to the submitter, but I really couldn't stand this.

I like the music a lot; I got a little tired of the vocal style used throughout. This is a three, but it's a "I liked it quite a lot" high three, and I'd rather have this than angsty metal any day of the week.

Pleasant enough, and certainly adjacent to stuff I like a lot. Not sure I found it all that memorable, though. A low three.

I love that this project gives me the chance to listen to stuff like this that I wouldn't likely have otherwise encountered. I enjoyed this, odd vocals and all. Sneaks into a four.

I respect what he's doing here, and I certainly didn't dislike it, but it also didn't grab me in any way.

Incredibly bland. A low two, pretty close to a one.

This is much more to my taste than Nonagon Infinity. Up there with KGLW's best. Five stars.

Pleasantly unassuming, I found this relaxing to listen to.

As others have noted, this is pretty soulless. There's also so little variety track to track.

Herring has an unusual voice, but it works for me. I enjoyed this a great deal, just crosses into a five star for me.

Not that this a particularly original comparison, but she's a bit like a less irritating Alanis. I liked it ok, but a little uneven; some bits were great, others a little grating.

I don't like Finn's voice. The music is fine, but not particularly memorable.

Three songs in, I was ready to give this a solid four stars. By the end of the first disc, it was a three. By the time I'd slogged my way through all 90 minutes, it had worn out its welcome.

I appreciated the brevity after yesterday's mammoth session. Decent ballads, but didn't overly excite me. Low three.

I can't get behind this genre at all. This is less annoying than other examples of it though.

I liked Starburster a lot, and Death Kink was great too.

Musically okay, but I find Flansburgh's voice (or is it Linnell's?) really annoying, and Linnell's (Flansburgh's?) isn't much better. Low three.

Barring the couple of big hits, this is fairly mediocre. Third wave ska is the worst ska.

I've listened to this before, when it came out. I like it, particularly the smallpipes on Blood and Butter

Well, I respect it more than I like it. I'm glad the submitter submitted it though. I'm just not sure it's a music album, rather than an art project.

I'm not going to complain at another Fall album on the list, and this adds some variety from the earlier ones on the official list.

This is so eighties! It's very good at what it does, but it's not my kind of thing.

I rather enjoyed this. Maybe a tad overdramatic for me in places, but on the whole a very strong three.

I liked Everybody's Weird a fair bit. A few other tracks were pretty good too, but it didn't all grab me. A lower three.

Lots of fun, and Amy Taylor is a compelling lead.

The first track made me feel like I was in the Wii menu. I liked the rest a little more, but the funk aspect wasn't organic enough for me

Another punk album a couple of days after the last. I find it a little hard to articulate why I didn't really gel with this one compared to Amyl and the Sniffers; I think the singer is less interesting, and it's a bit too poppy for the most part.

Somehow Thee Oh Sees have passed me by until now, though I'm familiar with the name(s). This was great. I've been to the Chapel many times and can only imagine the energy at this show in that small venue. Loved how krautrocky this sounded in places; Web sounded like it could be Can.

Rozi Plain is in This Is The Kit, whose album I submitted, and this album is very much in the same vein. Definitely up my street, though I don't love it quite to the same extent as TitK. Fun fact; saw them live (including great Rozi solo set) in the Chapel, venue for yesterday's Thee Oh Sees album. High four.

I've said before I'm not particularly a country fan, but I did enjoy the combo of Dolly's voice and the bluegrass sounds. Some talented musicians here. I particularly liked "Silver Dagger." Strong three.

I feel like Buddy Holly wore out its welcome some time ago. Say It Ain't So brings back fond Rock Band memories though. I liked the instrumental outro of the last track more than anything else on the album.

There's no denying Batiste is a highly talented guy, and technically this is excellent. But I'm not sure it made me _feel_ anything. A lower end three.

Great submission that should really have been on the official list. I like the whole album, but "The Less I Know The Better" is the clear standout.

This may be a troll suggestion, and indeed much of it (especially the title track) was pretty unbearable. But I dug "Mindtrain" and could have listened to more in the same vein, even with the vocals. That bumps it from 1 to 2.

I didn't love the vocals out the gate, but it totally lost me on track four when he started wobbling. Am I saying his voice is more irritating than Yoko Ono's? Well, it's close, let's leave it at that.

I concur with others that this is a completely unnecessary addition after five studio albums from the same artist. Boo to the submitter. The album itself was fine, although Bruce sounded like he was in the middle of a poo on several occasions.

Never heard of this album or artist, but I enjoyed it quite a lot, despite (or because of?) its scrappy incomplete nature.

Not the first time I've listened to this; it's a pretty great album. Immediately after listening to this, I listened to the Spanish language version of it, which I think is a good sign of a five-star

Another example of a well executed album by a talented musician that didn't really vibe with me. A low three, but i recognize the quality.

As others have said, sounds a bit like Elvis Costello, with a perhaps less divisive voice (though I don't mind Costello's voice). Anyway, this was enjoyable; a solid high three.

I hadn't listened to this before, though I remember the singles. Depeche Mode before they'd really found their voice - this is enjoyable but not as good as their later stuff.

Never listened to this before; highly enjoyed it. Little Honda sounds like it could be the Jesus and Mary Chain, We're An American Band sounds like MBV. Overall, very eclectic, but everything attempted here succeeded in my book.
