Not bad but not for me
Solid early electronic music. One or two stand out songs
Good background music. Not a lot of stand outs but its good
Just alright. I think the first song was pretty good
I like some older David Bowie stuff like the Ziggy stardust album. This just didnt have the magic in it for me. Kinda sounded like an old guy singing
Finally a good listen. Sometimes you can just tell its good. It also helps when you are motivated to finish the album. I also appreciate albums that are less than an hour. It is a task to listen to an hour plus album when its not one of your favorites
I like 70's disco. He's the greatest dancer was my favorite. I'm not sure I can give it 4 stars because I found some of the slower songs less exciting and I am not sure this is an album that I will go back to in the future.
I didnt finish the album. I can tell it is quality music but yesterday I couldn't get behind it being in Portuguese. I would love to hear it in English but I am sure it would lose some of the magic.
The music was good but the lyrics were very racially charged. A little too much for me. I prefer my music to be happy
Nothing too special about this album. I think there are better songs by the xx. I think overall their 2009 album xx is better and has more iconic songs. I do like modern music and how full the sound is with the electronic instruments and mixing
I think the alt genre is an odd descriptor. If anything doesn't 100% align with the current popular sound that slap that ALT descriptor in front of the genre like its supposed to explain what it sounds like. Depending on what decade you are listening to Alt-rock can sound completely different. This album was supposed to be the start of alt rock but it honestly sounds like a lot of the other chill jams from the 70's and 80's. None of the songs really stood out to be and I had to push myself to finish the album. It isn't one I would ever go back to listen to again. 2 Stars
My favorite songs were You said something and The mess we're in. I liked the chiller songs that have less rock influences but I feel like the album as a whole was pretty generic. Not terrible to listen to but not something I really enjoyed. 2 stars
Very good album. There is a reason why coldplay got so popular in this era. There is nothing I would change about the album. Every song had its place in the album. It is curious why The scientist was the song that took off when I think that it might be one of the weaker songs. Maybe I've just heard it too many times. Really nothing to complain about. 4 stars
About half the songs were interesting and I liked but the other half were so grating that it ruined the album for me. I know that its is jazz and a bit more experimental but some of the songs really missed the mark. My favorite song was Swordfishtrombone. Unfortunately 1 star
A super good album! I normally don't like rock before the 70's but this was definitely an exception. There was really not a bad song. 4 stars
The first couple songs of the album were really bad but it picked up in the second half and was enjoyable. I have no idea what they were thinking with the random piano banging in the song Aladdin Sane. It was awful. The piano in the rest of the album was really enjoyable. I like rock music with piano accompaniment. This is hard for me to rate. Ill give it 3 stars but it really should be closer to 2.5 because the early songs were so bad.
Awesome jazz album. I really need to listen to more jazz. Jazz is my reading music of choice. 5 stars
I am unsure of my thoughts on the bossa nova genre. I really want to like it but I often find it boring. I like hearing some of the top bossa nova songs in english, even though some of the lines feel like they had to cram a bunch of extra words in there. All in all it doesn't have any of the big band sound that I associate with Frank Sinatra and other singers of that era. I enjoyed listening to it but I don't think its for me. 3 stars
Couldn't do it. Yesterday was not the day for pakistani music. I can tell he is an talented vocalist though
Pretty decent but nothing here to encourage me to listen a second time. 3 stars
I am really on the fence with this one. His voice is strangly high and doesnt work with some of the songs. But there are a few songs where the high voice fits really well like Southern man and Dont let it bring you down. But the high voice isnt even his singing voice, he has a couple songs were he sings normally and its pretty good. I had to venture to youtube for this one and it was annoying.... Im probably somewhere between 2-3 stars. Its hard to say where im leaning too.
It was alright. As far as live recordings go I think it was decent. It just wasn't my favorite. The 7 minute drum solo was quite a lot. It was impressive but I dont think drum solos make for good music. 2.5 stars but leaning towards 2
This is exactly what kind of music would play during an 90's-2000's hacker scene. Oddly enough the album by Kraftwerk is a few years older and better showcases the roots of what electronic music is today. All in all it was okay for background music but had so much going on that it wasnt interesting enough for me to want more 2 stars
Its alright, I think I enjoyed their slower, less manic songs better and I wished there were more of them. Reading the history of the bad was really interesting. The members seem kinda crazy, like covering themselves in peanut butter and cutting themselves with glass. Also Heroin got involved which may explain some of that. Im at 2.5 stars but I'll go for 3
I feel like I would describe it as soft reggae. Its genre-less music with reggae influences. I liked it but it didn't scratch the reggae itch. 3 stars
Very ominous. I listened this while playing a spooky board game and it fit the atmosphere perfectly.
I like this one. Lots of songs I hadn't heard before or hadn't heard much. I like the slower pace of the album and of course hotel California never disappoints. 5 stars
After the first two songs I thought this one was going to be rough but the album really picked up from there. It had a modern sounds and I really enjoyed it.
Please play the guitar faster. Almost every song sounds the exact same. To be honest I skiped around the songs and I couldn't tell the difference between them. They all were nearly identical. 1 star
I really enjoyed this album, it felt more like an experience than an album. I think that if you listened to individual songs out of the album it wouldn't hold up but listening to everything sequentially makes for a good experience
I really like Louis Prima but I don't like all of his songs. The songs I like, I absolutely love but others don't do it for me. Some songs of this era I find grating. Overall I was really happy to see a Louis Prima album on here
4 stars I liked this one pretty good. Not much more to say
This album was kindof boring. The backing track is the same 30 seconds on a loop. Also the song Girl was kind of disturbing, im not sure how anyone feels good listening to that. 1 star
I like jazz but I dont like when it gets too busy and crazy. I prefer smooth, calm jazz. Its hard because I liked about half the album and the other half was too much for me. probably 2.5 stars
I liked this album, particularly last junkie on earth. I think they have a really good sound and is worth listening to again another time.
This album is awesome! I haven't listened to much led zeppelin before I started this project but they are very quickly rising to my favorite classic rock band. Sometimes I struggle with long songs (6+ minutes) but I had zero problems with these because they didnt stop for a 4 minute solo and I could jam the whole way through.
There are some real stand out songs in this album but a few of them were a little to yell-y for me. I think this would resonate more with me if I was still an angsty teenager. I am closer to 3.5 stars but Ill give it 4
This one is decent. No real stand out songs for me. Good enough indie music but I dont think I would ever relisten
This is interesting. It has some odd lyrics but nothing I would call "funny". overall it was just alright. Its probably 2.5 stars closer to 3
This a 2.5 stars but im going to go up to 3. It feels like I am on a raft in a never ending swamp pushing through the muck with a long stick. If I ever want to change careers to be a nocturnal aligator hunter/guide that says strange things to tourists, this will be the soundtrack of that life. My biggest issue with Tom Waits is that the lows are incredibly low, ear bleedingly low. but when I imagine myself on that swamp it makes me enjoy it quite a bit
All the edgy kids in the 70's/80's would be all over this. This is the album you parents dont understand haha. I dont think it has too much to offer now days. Also the singing is kinda bad.
This is pretty decent. I enjoyed the album but I leave 4+ stars to ones I want to listen to again. This one is close to 4 stars but there isn't anything enticing me to relisten. 3.5 stars
Not a fan of grundge really. The songs all sound the same and i really didn't want to sit through the whole thing 1.5 stars
This is on odd album. Sometimes the bad singing worked for me and other times it didnt. The instrumental backing was really well done. The songs range between 3 stars and 1 stars so I will give it a 2 star rating
This is hard to listen to and is so extremally vulgar. I much prefer eminem's more recent albums. The music is made to slap you in the face. Also the beats aren't that good which is half the reason to listen to rap. 1 star
This ones pretty good. However it felt like it faded into background music very quickly. Good background music but I dont feel like it engaged me very much. I think I will still give it 3.5 stars but its closer to 4
This wasn't too bad. I don't think Id go back and listen to it again though. The chill laid back beats were a nice contrast to the slim shady LP. 3 stars
This one is good but a little generic. It seems like all rock artists of this time have a similar voice, ac dc, led zepplin, def leppard. I think I prefer Led Zepplin over Def Leppard. Its 3.5 stars but its closer to 4
This was probably my favorite Reggae album ive listened to. I really liked the singers voice and use of repetition in his songs. For some reason the song slavery days stood out to me. It was very simple but complete.
I am really liking led zeppelin. For a first album this is very good but I do think I like some of their later albums better. easy 4 stars
I enjoyed this album but there wasn't a lot for me to come back to. I think Massive attack was a pioneer in this groove style of music this early in the 90's. This kind of sound is all over now and its cool to see an early version of it.
This album highlights one of my biggest problems with live recorded albums. Girls screaming. I hate it so much and it ruins the songs instantly for me. Other than that this album was very basic and was pretty forgettable.
I am not a fan of UK rap. Im not sure if its the accent of the dead tone of voice that I dont like. Did not finish
I liked this more than I thought I would. I always thought I didnt like Jimi Hendrix but I enjoyed it. My favorite one was Castles made of Sand. Kind of reminded me of Jack Johnson. 3.6 stars rounded up to 4
This is a pretty chill album that doesn't have much new to offer. It is very early 2000's mom music. I did like it overall but there wasn't any standout songs. I think the singer has a great voice and this is exactly the type of music I'd enjoy hearing live at a restaurant but I wouldnt want to go to a concert for it.
Im 50/50 on this album. There are the songs that have been played to death in grocery stores and on the radio and then there were three non radio hits that were quite good. Lovesong, I'll be waiting, and He wont go. Adele is a very talented singer but the the mixing and instrumentation of the album felt like it driven by corporate investment. It is the type of music that can only be made in a studio doing 1000 takes. I cant even imagine this version of Adele singing with a live band. I'm torn, I really hate the radio hits and the bland songs are very forgettable, so 1 star. But the three that I liked are 4 stars. I will give the album 2 stars to split the middle.
This was alright. Decent music but I think I tire of the rowdy alt/punk rock music. for that genre I prefer to stick to stuff I listen to as a kid.
This album reminded me of music I listened to in middle school when I first discovered Pandora like Harvey Danger and The Strokes. I enjoy that it isnt as loud as some of the other alt rock albums on this list. It is a high 3 stars for me.
Ive never listened to Madonna before. This was an interesting mix of 90's pop that was moving into a more modern style. Overall it was pretty forgettable except for Paradise (not for me). This song would never be popular but the synths, robot voice, and whispering really hit an accord with me. As an experimental song I think it slaps and it was the only song I listened to twice. overall its a 2 star for me
This album isnt bad but I will never go back to listen to it again. Bittersweet symphony is iconic but I didn't find any other songs interesting.
This sounds like stuff grandma and grandpa would love. His voice has an interesting quality, its not a really powerful voice but like a friend singing at a wedding reception. It is charming in a way. Overall it was just okay. I would much rather stick to some of the classic jazz singers
These songs seem like a song form of a storyteller. It feels like a man is telling story in a song. It is enjoyable but it seems like he has the same candance in all his songs to the detriment where it sounds the same. Enjoyable but tiring
I find it interesting that this style of music was called rock. It is far different than what rock evolved to in the 70's and 80's. I enjoy this style of music but there is only so much I can take.
I have probably heard the top songs from this album a million times. I'm not even crazy about MGMT. While its not offensive its probably 2.5 stars close to 2.
This was exactly what I needed on a sick day at work. Some chilled out grooves and ridiculously high singing. I am a big fan of chill funk music. The album kept it short and I was left wanting more. 4.5 stars
This was alright. My biggest problem with it is the backing instruments play the same 4 second loop while the main instrument solos. It isnt bad but it feels really repetitive. All in all 2 stars
This was a nice chill album. I was impressed by carole's vocal quality and I quite liked backing/mixing. There were a number of songs I recognized that I never knew who the singer was. 3.5 stars
I was not a fan of this one. I did not like the singers voice at all. It was very wishy washy. That is a good word to describe this album. Wishy washy. Overall did not enjoy
This wasnt terrible but it wasnt good. No one song excited me or made me feel anything at all. A very generic alt rock album. Also not sure why every song had the explicit tag. I didnt hear a single swear word.
This was an enjoyable album for me. My favorite song was Jesus, etc. I thought the violins at the start were especially striking. Overall I liked the album and enjoyed my time with it but I dont think I will go back for a second listen.
I at 2.5 stars for this. I enjoy electronic music but this stuff gets really repetitive. I think my favorites are Someone Great and New York I love you. I think the singer kind of sounds like Death Cab's singer.
I thought I had heard some strange albums but this is by far the strangest album I have ever heard. It is so odd that it starts to get disturbing. The lyrics even started touching on some serious topics in a very creepy way. It felt like a window into someone's mind on a bad shroom trip displaying their insecurities and deepest thoughts in a twisted fashion. Im not sure why anyone would want to produce or buy this album. Did I like it? No. Did it do something unique and interesting. Yes. Was it really grating and stressful to listen to at work. 100% 1 star
This dude was asked: how many songs go on an album and decided 4 was enough. But he killed eachone. They each had distinct grooves that evolved throughout the song. I normally dont like 6+ minute songs because they often have bloat or boring sections but this is how it should be done. The audio quality was surprising good for 1973, this could have been recorded this year. Easy 4-4.5 stars for Head Hunters.
I enjoyed ear feel of the music, it was interesting to listen to. Some songs with the super high voice and driving instruments throughout. Some of the lyrics were kind of spicy and I wasnt sure if I was supposed to feel uncomfortable. Ill give this 3 stars but I would not be upset listening to it again.
I love boston's sound. This is my most listened to album from them but it slaps. I may be a little biased because I listened to it growing up but it still holds up. Boston is one of my top classic rock artists 5 stars
I was really enjoying the album for the first half but as I got further in I will admit I was getting a but bored. So im mixed, at first I was pretty sure it would be a 4 star album but I lost interest so that definitely brings it down. I enjoy the instrumentals and thought that they put in that little extra effort that lends more depth to the album. The singer definitely holds her own in terms of vocal quality. Im going for 3 stars.
Very enjoyable, I love this era of music. It is so earnest and wholesome. This was exactly what I needed to get started on a Monday morning. It is exactly what I expect out of this style of music and it did not disappoint. 4 stars
Not too much to go off here. It is a very basic 80's pop album. It it likely only here for the big karma chameleon hit. Overall it was just okay. Not bad but not good. 2.5 stars
This ones not for me. She is a talented singer but I cant stand her voice. Im not a fan of music that focuses so heavily on the vocals and it feels like it leaves the rest of the instruments behind. This isnt a sound that works for me. 2 stars
This album was fabulous. You can definitely tell the Genesis/Phil Collins influence but since I like that, I liked this. Dont give up was a stand out for me, something about the melody and harmony of the first half really tickled something in my brain. I want to go for 5 stars but there were a few songs in the second half of the album that didnt really do it for me. 4.5 stars
Not a huge fan of the dark grungy style. I think I would like this more if I was more depressed. I couldn't make my way through it all. Definitely not in the mood for it. 1.5 stars
Man I love Abba and this album has a good amount of their hits as well as some pretty good ones I hadn't heard before. Something about Abba is insanely catchy and brings me such a good mood. I like that they mix up the singer every now and then and switch to their male singer. As much as I dont like 70's-80's pop, I LOVE Abba. 5/5 stars
Kindof repetitive and while all the songs are different they blend in together. It was a little long for me. 2 stars
Wow, they went crazy with the keyboards on this one and the album flew by. I was a little disappointed that I could only find a live album but the band did not hold back. Very enjoyable up beat keyboards. I cant find a reason not to give it at least 4 stars.
This wasnt bad but it wasnt interesting. Very rowdy and energetic but there wasnt much else in it for me. Also didnt appreciate being surprised by a bare chested lady in the album art.
This was my first time listening to Meat Loaf and I expected a much harder rock from the album cover. I enjoyed it. I had always heard that people made fun of meat loaf and now I am not sure why. These are solid tracks that make me thing of Rock Love Ballads. Overall super enjoyable. 4 stars
Pretty decent but there wasn't anything that made me want to hear more. However if I was at a restaurant and a band was playing this, I think I'd be all over it. 2.5 stars
Honestly not a fan of indie/folk music. This one didnt make my ears bleed though. It has a good quality and I think is far better than a lot of the folk music I hear coming out recently but I still dont think its for me. Again, if I heard this live I think I would enjoy it much more. 2.5 stars
While the instrumentation has a nice sound, I could not get behind the vocals. To be honest I tire of how many punk albums we get on here and none of them are very good. I would be happy to never listen to this one again. 2 stars
This one is hard because there is nothing bad about the album but it is somewhat generic. I know John Lennon is a big name but the music in this on is very standard for the style. It is somewhere between 2 and 3 stars
This is between 2 and 3 stars for me. I enjoyed the improv style music but I felt like it retread the same ground for too long during a song and didnt mix things up enough to warrant a 8+ minute song. Ive been hearing more of Frank Zappa and I cant say Im super impressed. As an improv artist it is pretty good but the violin in the gumbo variations was way too much
I liked this way more than I thought I would. Bob Dylan's voice is perfect for the storytelling style of the album. I love songs that tell a story and almost every song in the album does that. I particularly liked Ballad of the Thin Man and Highway 61 revisited. Great album 4.5 stars
Honestly cant remember this one too well but I think it was decent and I dont want to listen to it again
I have never been a fan of the Beastie Boys and I despise that so many modern movies feel like they need to have a Beastie Boys moment where they play the soundtrack. Looking past my distaste for the Beastie Boys it was as bad as I thought it would be. Still not something I really like to listen to but not the worst. 2 stars
As blues rock goes this is pretty decent. There wasnt really any stand out tracks and it mostly faded into background music for me. I enjoyed it but didnt save any songs to a playlist. 3.5 stars
I enjoyed the high falsetto voice and the chill sound of it. This feels like an alternate reality coldplay if they didn't get big. Enjoyable but forgettable. 3 stars
This was decent. Nothing exciting but passable funk. Pretty good to listen to in the background but no songs stood out to me. 3 stars
Just okay. At no point in the album did I think, "Hey he is doing something interesting here". Im also not sure if his high voice works for me or not. Sometimes I think its good and other times it doesnt work. Listening to this made me want to listen to James Taylor, who's music is far superior.
This is fantastic jazz. one of the most enjoyable jazz albums I've ever listened to. It grooved throughout. My only complaint is that one song has a drum solo and I dont like drum solos. But other than that, 5 stars
Great Beatles album. Lots of classics and the nonradio songs were good too. Ended on a weird note with a murdery song that didnt land well but I liked the rest of the album. 4.5 stars. Im not sure I will give a beatles album 5 stars but maybe others in the future will change my mind
This was okay. Nothing really stood out to me but the song I want your sex was super vulgar and off putting. may 2.5 stars. If I wanted to listen to 80's pop I'd just listen to the far superior Phil Collins.
This is the type of music that would play in a 00's hacker scene. Very bombastic but not bad. a little tiring to listen to. 3 stars
Very loud and aggressive. Not really for me. The guitars were kind of nice but very simple. I think yelling has to be used strategically in music for it to be effective. Too much and it looses its power. 1 star
Pretty decent. I like the chill vibe and it was overall enjoyable. Definitely something I would enjoy listening to live. 3 stars
Nice chill album, cant go wrong with Bob Marley. I can never be stressed listening to this style. Low volume and groovy. 4 stars
When I hear CCR I always think of dad. I think there is only one CCR song that he played frequently. I went into this hoping I would love it but it didnt really spark anything for me. Oddly enough my favorite song was Glory Be, where there was no singing. Maybe I dont like the singer? Not sure. 2.5 stars
It was great listening to this album again, it has been years and years since I hear the whole thing. My childhood favorite has always been "Girl" and it still holds up. A new stand out is "Rental Car" I think this is the gold standard for weird/experimental albums. Every song is very listenable. I dont have a good reason to go lower so 5 stars
Kinda of odd singing that reminded my of men at work (which I love) overall I thought it was pretty good, but I didnt add any songs to a playlist. 3.5 stars
I was expecting something completly different than what I got. This was much more hard rock than metal which was a nice surprise. I was a little hesitant based on the album name but I didnt really notice anything offensive. (I was listening to it pretty quietly. Pretty enjoyable. 3.5 stars
