I am going to tell my kids this was Taylor Swift.
Great start to this journey: this album brings some of the greatest Led Zeppelin hits. The track list is top tier and it even includes one of the best songs written by humankind in the twentieth century, Stairway to Heaven. I personally do not resonate with a couple songs. The first half is iconic but "The Battle of Evermore" does not feel like it belongs there. This impression of lack of unity separates my rating from a perfect one.
Jagged Little Pill is an appropriate show case of what Alanis Morissette is and is not capable of. The record travels through a variety of energy levels and vocal ranges. However, the album fails to evoke feelings that outstand from what you may obtain from other mainstream productions. Not a bad album, but pretty boring. Not my cup of tea.
I had never heard his name, but surprisingly I knew a couple songs of this album. It is a nice encounter to cross my path with such an uplifting record in this collection. Without You is obviously the main stand-out. Gotta Get Up, Coconut and Jump Into The Fire do not fall very far behind in terms of my personal taste. Nice surprise, good album.
In an extremely biased review of this album, Johnny Cash receives a perfect rating for his effort on American IV. If I tried to be more objective, I would not go lower than 4 stars. Johnny excels at what he is best at in this long play, and delivers some of his most iconic songs. The whole album is in perfect harmony, mixing his cowboy-esque style and profound depression. Loved the album, great listen.
Concerts are amazing for a good amount of reasons. You are sharing the space with more fans, the atmosphere, the emotion of being there, witnessing the delivery, etc... Many of them are not enjoyable in a live album. And what is more, it is not an original composition. When an album is tailored, a message and a coherence are implemented, which is lost and reinterpreted when creating a set list for a concert. Plus, the concert was in Leeds. Extra point for being The Who and some of the tracks included.
Nice jazz album, a little too unknown for me. "Nomali" is a beautiful tune.
Bingo. This album amazed me and I saved all the songs into my library. Also, I listened to each track minimum twice. Amy Winehouse is a legend. She left us early, only leaving 2 studio albums behind. From this, you know that her records have a high good song density. The record starts with well known incredible songs and then ends with less popular tracks that really suited my taste. Does not disappoint, amazing experience.
With darker undertones and epic melodies, OMD hands us what could be the soundtrack to an adventure or fantasy movie. I could also imagine myself driving in the night with some of the songs as background. "Sealand" is simply beautiful and probably my favorite track on this record. "Souvenir" is probably the major stand-out and it provides a great listen, as well as "The Romance of the Telescope". However, the album is quite weirdly structured, with extended versions of songs that have already played in the middle of the remaining tracklist.
Adele blesses us with her second studio album, casually dropping one of the records of the decade. Though 19 is fine, 21 is where she really shows her value. Her vocal range is mesmerizing making her voice unmistakable. You will always recognize her when you hear her singing. There is a couple songs she dominated the radio with during the early 10s.
"Highway to Hell" is an historical track. Reaching almost 1'5B streams on Spotify, it display stats usually obtained by recently released #1 tracks. All of this while being a 70s record. AC/DC's sound is impossible to dislike and it is constant during this album. There are no bad songs included. However, at times, I would not be able to tell different tracks apart. I miss more songs that do their own thing within the album. Great listen.
LCD Soundsystem introduces us to a different sound on his "Sound of Silver" long play. However, distancing from the usual does not always mean doing a good job. Some tracks in this project bored me to death and many others caused physical pain to me. Not even those more popular songs are spotless to me. Overly repetitive structures, exaggeratedly long songs and imperfect mixings contribute to the worst possible rating for this album.
I am personally disappointed by this record. I had never heard anything from this band, but I have seen a lot of people wearing merchandising by them. I received good opinions about them also. So in one way or another, I had set very high expectations on this album. Maybe they were unjustifiedly high or maybe they are overhyped in general. Do not get me wrong, though. The record is not bad at all, and I really appreciate the sound they establish in this album. At some point the tones are too low for my personal taste, but that's just me again. Good and interesting listen.
I am going to tell my kids this was Taylor Swift.
This journey blesses us now with 2 albums in one. To be honest, this fact surely damaged the experience and the rating. These albums are an compulsory stop in the journey from classic hip-hop to the sounds we are used to today. OutKast starts with an uplifting and groovy sound in "Speakerboxxx*, while "The Love Below" starts with a more seductive vibe. I am personally more of a fan of the first project. But then, the major hit "Hey Ya!" works a breaking point to change the vibe in the second album. For a long listen, it was easy. Also, I would like to appreciate the more than welcome appearances of Jay Z, Killer Mike and Lil' Jon. It is always a pleasure.
I should have expected David Byrne would not shut up given that the band is names Talking Heads. Jokes aside, I disliked his vocals through the whole record. In fact, my favorite song was "Artist Only", where his presence is an anecdote. The band and the tracks themselves are not objectively bad. I can see the quality behind them and why they could be liked by other people.
Every track on this album is a bop. Each one of them have a different sound to them, without making that a mess of a record. I had heard some songs from them in the past, but surely "L.A. Woman" is a great introduction to The Doors. Quite sincerely loved the album, but I missed a stand out song I had already known.
In general tones, I have been unimpressed by this album. U2 is good, do not get me wrong, but I have never loved them. I like them, yeah, but seeing how big their name is, I would expect more. No song has made me say "wow, this is amazing". This previous comment is purely based on personal taste. "War" is a well-structured project, filled with songs that can please the general public. It is worth a listen.
Surprising album for me, I expected it to be way worse. SFA explore a whole set of different sounds in this record, managing to get an average to good performance in all of them. It was a fun trip, but maybe not the most suitable for me. Appreciated the listen, though.
It might be the tracklist to a guy singing live in a restaurant, it might follow a good melody for a casual 8-bit game, you may also be dancing by snapping your fingers. I can not exactly define it, but Donald Fagen definitely sets the vibes right. Clear and concise, this album is a relaxed listen and will lift you up. There are no great exciting tracks on it, but it is a good wrap in general.
I have a weird feeling towards this album. At times Red Hot Chili Peppers achieve a sound I resonate with. I finally think: "Now, now I will enjoy it." And then they come up with the most goofy or chaotic song possible. Personally, I fail to understand what is the objective behind this. However, the good songs are incredible and some of them are unmistakable melodies to must of us. Including such legendary tracks in a record surely helps in the rating. Difficult listen, interesting experience and some great hits.
Led Zeppelin outstand as my favorite band during this journey with this second album we are recommended. I liked the previous one a little more, which should have received a perfect rating. However, The Immigrant Song is legendary to me. The group's sound is spectacular and the album in general does not disappoint. I would say the project starts on a high and it does nothing but descend from there. All in all: it has been a pleasure.
Loved the album and it was a very pleasant surprise. The vibe established in the first songs are a perfect personal match for me. It lacks one final star for irrelevancy and a couple songs that were not the best fit maybe. However, I loved discovering this band and this album and I am definitely looking forward to hearing more from them.
As much as I love Rod Stewart, with his easy of manner and show biz abilities, I can see why this is not his most decorated album. He is showing potential here, which he definitely reaches in the soon future. I get this may be an important listen to understand where he comes from, but I am more interested in he became to be. Good album anyways.
Simply delightful, The Rolling Stones set the bar up high with "Exile On Main Street". There is something about their sound that is just different. It is just not the genre that gets you moving and energized, it is them. There is a set of amazing tracks included in this album: "Sweet Virgina", "Ventilator Blues", "Shine A Light"... they got me happy through the whole album. Amazing.
For some reason all the songs sounded familiar, like I had heard them before. For most of them, I think that is not the case. The album is okay but it turned boring to me pretty quick. I enjoyed the first songs principally due to this effect. The exception to the rule is "Time of the Season", love the instrumentals in that track. It was a nice travel to The Beatles' time, in fact, I think one can appreciate the influence. Not a hard listen but I would not recommend.
This album was pretty similar to the last one (Odessey and Oracle) but a little bit more enjoyable. I would say genre is exactly the same and works as a remembrance to The Beatles' era. To me this kind of music, though enjoyable, sometimes falls silly. I am more used to more stimulating melodies.
Maybe I am too used to current day's hip-hop and that makes me consider this sound stale. Also, I understand it is a little bit experimental, but I did not like the experiments she tried to perform. Did not enjoy, few songs can be saved.
Felt empty to me, with no feeling or emotion. That might be the objective but it is not my kind of thing.
I did not have the impression that Beck could satisfy my tastes this much. I am totally surprised and pleased by this record.
This is a genre in which I attempt to find calm. The first track made me anxious, but the rest felt really nice. Easy record, straight to the point and pretty enjoyable.
Quite a disastrous experience by listening to this album. When your best song is supposed to be with Kylie Minogue, you are not doing things right. And it still was pretty bad. The album was saved by "The Kindness of Strangers". Liked that track. The rest was mid to bad.
Full of sounds I am not familiar with, this self-named album by Miriam Makeba surprised for me good. Her voice is extraordinary and I completely fell in love with "Suliram". As tracks passed, my expectations got higher. I have to say the cover of "House of the Rising Sun" disappointed me a little bit, and that the second half of the album was not as much as I would have desired.
Ice Cube releases his first #1 solo Album with "The Predator" and it is no surprise. Straight Outta N.W.A., the rapper and actor brings us an album with many qualities that are missed in modern rap. The storytelling, different topics, every song has its place on the album, the MC attitude of connecting and introducing the songs, meaningful interludes... Included in the project, "It was a Good Day" broke the barrier between famous rap songs and famous songs. It is a bop. Personally, I enjoyed the album a lot. I had a couple laughs throughout the album and I could vibe to a lot of songs.

Hate the band, but it could have been way worse. It just felt too long and bored me.
It won't get groovier than this! EW&F are a reliable source of good feelings and this record is clear proof. My favorite track in the album must be "Africano". The amount of happiness this instrumental gave can not be described in words. I need to find a kind of scenario in my life in which I would replay this album. This is not my go-to kind of music sadly.
Every track on this record feels unfinished or unmastered. For example, the sound proposed in "You're Still in a Dream" is beautiful, but then the vocals seem not the blended in with the music. I understand this is on purpose. Still, it is a difficult idea to execute properly and this is not achieved in this album. The record starts in a softer tune and afterwards increases in head-bobbability. In neither half of the album could I enjoy a song properly. I will have to give it the lowest rating.
This review might be influenced by a personal taste bias. I think I could say Arcade Fire is my favourite band. I love everything song I have heard from them. In this album, we found ourselves with an energetic start with the first three Neighborhood pieces. The last one works as a breaking point for the ballad "Crown of Love", which ends with a great change of tone. The final part of the album is all bangers. I adore the smooth transition from "Haiti" to "Rebellion". Love the sound, the vocals, the album as a whole. Definitely one of the best listens so far.
The album is really nice and easy to listen and you can clearly see it contributes with different sounds to the era's style. I really enjoyed it, even though some songs feel like a fever dream. I know it must be the point, but what the fell are those two final songs. My favorite tracks would include "Hungry Freaks, Daddy", "Go Cry On Somebody Else's Shoulder" and "Anyway The Wind Blows". It was great to listen something worthy from the 60s apart from the Beatles.
The album was ok to have in the background. However, in contrast with other African albums we have listened to here, I could not appreciate the sound performed on this one. It may be due to not being used to it, something that does not prevent me from saying it is good music.
Definitely not my favorite Rolling Stones album. It still includes some legendary tracks. Good listen, a little disappointed compared to other projects by the band.
I personally consider that this album lacks substance, it failed to tell me anything and it was majorly an indifferent listen. Best songs to me were "Psycho Killer" and "Pull up". There are no painful features in the project either. Expected Marc rating: 3.
Majestic. Would love it if it were more user friendly. Expected Marc rating: 1
This album is sincerely bullshit. All the songs sound the same with some random guitar noise in the background and no correlation with the vocals or anything. It feels empty and created from an important lack of artistry. Expected Marc rating: 3
Love the band but this is not their best album in my opinion. Still some great tracks included. Expected Marc rating: 3
They made the "The Boys" singer into a real thing?? 😂😂😂 I have not received enough Billy Joel hype during my life. I loved his uplifting energy, every song is a reason to smile. There is nothing to comment on the unity of the project. Great listen! Expected Marc rating: 4
The opposite to a hard day's listen. Great album. I do not understand why the cover is 20 pictures of just one member of the band. Where's the rest? Expected Marc rating: 5
Christmas albums are low hanging fruits. They are okay, but they are there only to fulfill one single objective. All artists have one album, everybody likes them because it's always the same damn songs. Let's be real here, there's a factor of execution; but it doesn't require any originality or effort. I guess this album is okay, it has all the classics performed by several artists. It is a good compilation, but I can not give it a high rating. Expected Marc rating: 3
This is not the best hip-hop opinion, but I consider Snoop Dogg highly overrated. He is very famous for many reasons, but lately music is not even in the top 3. This album has great songs and put him up in the position of King of G-Funk. With the later appearance of Kendrick Lamar, he can not enjoy that title anymore. "Doggystyle" aged like milk for several reasons. First thing comes to mind is how cringe the intros of the songs became. They are not even included as interludes, like other rappers already did in this era. They should remaster the album and change that, because I could not bear the embarrassment of being handed the aux and have Snoop yapping about bullshit only a weed-numbed brain like his could produce. Nate Dogg, Warren G, Dr. Dre productions... This album is star-studded and it shows it is important. Sadly, it is getting stale as a whole despite a couple stand-out tracks.
Better than expected to be honest. I gotta say I skipped the missing and the mono songs. Expected Marc rating: 3
Very chill album, borderline with boredom at some points. The length of the album is a pro, as it preserves a higher density of cool tracks against fillers. The name-giver to the album is a great song and so are another pair, especially during the beginning. Expected Marc rating: 4
Can not believe how many songs from this album I knew beforehand. And I would not have been able to tell confidently which band they were from. Skill issue. Amazed by the project. Expected Marc rating: 4
Haha, get it? Because sex number. Funny right? Pain in the ass album all from a childish idiotic idea. I can also write 69 songs if 20 are useless 1 minute interludes and the other 50 songs are similar to each other, almost indistinguishable in some cases. I would have generally given this album a 2 or 3 if it was normal length and not a whole bunch of fillers and repeated songs. There were some that you can enjoy, but in proportion they are minimal. 1 as a punishment score. Expected Marc rating: 2
If you like a song and it is repetitive, it is great, because you will find yourself with a sound you like on repeat. However, when you do not enjoy the sound, then the track will feel like hell. This is what happens with this Daft Punk album. "Around the World" is iconic, and some other songs bring a great tune with it. However, other songs feel like a pain in the ass. 1. Daftendirek - 1/5; works as an intro but I despise it as a stand-alone song. 2. WDPK 83.7 FM - 1/5; could have easily been part of the intro. 3. Revolution 909 - 2/5; could dance to it mid-session, but not a great feel to it. 4. Da Funk - 2/5; I am staring to feel that this album is not going to live up to the hype I was giving to it. Another good mid-session track, but nothing great about it. 5. Phoenix - 3/5; Finally some little nice touch to it! 6. Fresh - 3/5; Got my head bobbing, nice mental trip to the Summer. Uplifting mood. 7. Around the World - 5/5; Legendary. 8. Rollin' & Scratchin' - 2/5; Too repetitive with no appeal to me. 9. Teachers - 3/5; Lyrics like the outro of a reggeaton song lmao. Sounds better though. 10. High Fidelity - 2/5; I am liking this approach more, it's groovier. I need a twist in structure at some point. 11. Rock'n Roll - 1/5; nah this ain't it. Painful. 12. Oh Yeah - 2/5; unimpressed. 13. Burnin' - 3/5; niiiiiiiice. 14. Indo Silver Club - 3/5; repetitive, but I felt it. I am enthusiastic about the end of the album. 15. Alive - 2/5; not much to add about. 16. Funk Ad - 1/5; unneeded. Total sum: 36/80. Average: 2.25/5. Overall sensation: 3/5. Expected Marc rating: 2/5.
What a formidable way to start the week. This album was just what I needed to improve an already good Mo day morning. Cold weather, a cozy scarf and walking to the office under the first sun rays hitting your face. A total vibe. Saved a bunch of songs but it would require a popularity factor to receive the perfect rating. P.S.: where is "Splanky" from? I've certainly heard that one before. Expected Marc rating: 2.
Bored me a little bit, but I would not dare to say it is a bad one. Expected Marc rating: 3
It kind of grew on me, then disgrew, then grew again. Lots of mixed feelings for a project where Gabriel's vocals are tremendous, highlighted feature
Way better than I would have ever predicted. I should have believed what his stage name depicts from the beginning. Loved the sound, got my head bobbing at several times. Really enjoyable project. Expected Marc rating: 3
While the previous RCHP project did not please me and did not lead me to understand the hype behind this band, this album opened my eyes. Apart from the tracks we all know, the bottom line in this long play is at a really notable height. My perception of the peppers has improved. Expected Marc rating: 3
Adele blesses us with yet another espectacular record. It's crazy that she wrote this project being 25 years old, while I had achieved nothing in my life by that age. It makes you think, huh. Anyways, that fact doesn't prevent me from my right to criticize the album a little bit. You can sense the pop influence gaining territory respect to her previous records. Not saying it is bad, I just prefer her original style. Half of the songs are already a classic. Adele does not disappoint. Expected Marc rating: 5
I would have never thought I would give 50 cent such a high rating. I saw the tracklist and figured that the album would be carried by Eminem and the two tracks we all know. I never liked his voice, he sounds a little like Mario Casas to me. However, I enjoyed the album a lot. A lot of lesser known tracks are great Gangsta Rap executions. Pleasant surprise for me in this case.
At first I did not know who this guy was or why he was here, but the second song answered all my questions. I am not a total fan of the album, but there are several songs in it that are a total vibe. Expected Marc rating: 3
Not impressed. There are some great tunes on this album, but then some sound just like a bunch of noise. It may be due to the recording quality. I did not enjoy the flagship song, but other tracks grew on me. Expected Marc rating: 3
Souxsie is a recurrent band within my family. However, although enjoying an auditive habit from my part, it could not please my ears. I could not connect with this album and it was difficult to finish. Of course, "Night Shift" was more bearable and even enjoyable. But the rest was just a no to me. Based on personal taste, only, not criticizing the quality of the album. Expected Marc rating: 3
Can't stand live albums. Extra point for Johnny Cash. Expected Marc rating: 4
Even though Nicki Minaj has the "Queen of Rap" status, Missy Elliott paved the way before. Nicki paved the way for all current rappers, and Elliot paved the way for her. Compared to her contemporary artists, I like her way more than Lil Kim. Great album, very important and quite enjoyable. Close to a 3 for the weak ending. Those solo tracks were not the best. Expected Marc rating: 3
Simply marvellous. Got me enjoying like a kid in a candy shop. Expected Marc rating: 4
Man, Coldplay just gets in your feels. Lots of memorable tracks in this album. Loved it from beginning to end. Expected Marc rating: 4
What a disgrace of a band to my personal tranquility and comfort. I sincerely can not stand their music. I must be fair, though, and not doom them with the lowest rating. Their influence is huge and got billions of people dancing in clubs for decades. I'm not one of them. Expected Marc rating: 1
I started the album with excitement as I did not really know what to expect, and I started liking the initial songs. However, I started to get disappointed as the sounds started becoming less attractive to me, especially for the vocals. Expected Marc rating: 4
Quite surprising experience as I did not know the band even. Several nice songs to bop your head to. Expected Marc rating: 4
Consistently pleasing album. I would not say it is magnificent, but it is really difficult to have such a high bottom line. Great listen. E.M.R.: 4/5
Amazing uplifting tunes! And oh when I heard THAT melody.
Too chaotic for me. It was not an enjoyable listen for me and I do not think it is a relevant record, so it's under the bar compared to the rest of albums in this experience.
netflix ahh
I can imagine myself witnessing this concert and there's no way I could maintain my composure. What a great listen for a live album. It's live though and I can not be bothered.
I really appreciate their sound: some post-apocalyptic or dystopian scenarios, with heavy industrial sounds. "Read the book that wrote itself" suits as the background of a luminous art installation. However, the album did not really get to me. No specific reason I could share. Expected rating by Marc: 2
Very pleasant project, with two different tones that are well mixed together. First I thought, "2017? Too new to be here" Then I remembered that is 7 years ago. There are a couple tracks that are well known, which were quite an easy listen. I could imagine myself in Nasty Mondays with a couple tracks, or driving at night with others. Great combination, keep it up.
It was steering towards a solid 4, but then "Light My Fire", "Back Door Man" and "The End" came on. Such masterpieces, amazing.
What a ride of an album. So this is what all rappers aspire to be when they release dancehall singles. The hip-hop and reggae undertones are wonderful. And there is a big amount of songs that are straight classics. Loved the listen.
Great unplugged-indie sound. Did not know the band and it is definitely a great discovery and addition to my playlist.
Very hard listen to me. It started as bearable, but as long as the tracks passed by, it slowly got in my nerves.
Maybe this is not the most legendary Elton John project, but it is really good anyways. Starting with Tiny Dancer is incredible!! Great listen.
I believe myself to be a Radiohead enjoyer, but this album at time was not it for me. Still a solid amount of additions to my library.
As soon as I listened the kind of music in this album, I was like "Oh, let's see which is the song I know from a movie or whatever". That moment never came.
I feel like sound is outdated, and it didn't turn old like wine, so to say. I would not know why, but my impression is that most of the songs would not make the cut in a contemporary project. If I could explain why, I would not be doing this challenge and would just be a producer instead. Extra point for "Mama said knock you out". Amazing track.
I had never listened to an Iggy Pop album, and that's on me. Man, I've been missing out. AMAZING record.
David Bowie.
Such a pleasing listen, from beginning to end. His version of Hallelujah is world-widely known. The whole album has a consistent very high quality. Great discovery for me.
What an absolute banger. From the calmer songs to the legendary ones. Only would point out 'Little Acorns' as a let down for its intro. Enjoyed this album a lot. Expected Marc Rating: 4
Fresh off The Beatles but not being his first solo album, I expected this album to be more McCartneyesque and less Beatlesque at some points. That wave kind of bores me, but the rest includes some good songs. EMR: 5/5
Annoying. EMR: 3/5
Super easy to listen. It's this kind of happy rock you can easily dance to, which infects you with your good vibes. I already knew a couple songs in the album E.M.R.: 4/5
Great sound but the vocals were underwhelming to me at first, for both their range and mixing. This impression would reduce along the tracks. Extra point for Giddy Up. E.M.R.: 4
Gen Z attention span adapted album. Ridiculous structure. EMR: 4/5
Personally, this album took its time to grow on me. As the tracks passed by, my appreciation increased progressively. I could be very wrong, but at times it would give me a sensation of brutalisme. Highly enjoyed the listen.
Nice album, special mention to "Stand".
Knew most of the album. Frankly, a very pleasant listen.
I am conflicted about how much I enjoyed this album, it has been full of up and downs to me. Especial mention to "Rock On", which has been the best among all the inconsistency. P.S.: It's crazy how much the intro made me think about MIKA.
( Boring one track record.
