Back to Basics

I'm glad I've never seen, felt or touched 1970s. It was a confusing and slimy place. Most of the songs end in a fade-out, since humanity had too much to handle back then to take time to finish songs. Production-wise everything is surprisingly very nice. I expected way more "punk" but got a decent "rhythm and blues". From reading about but not really listening much Iggy Pop except mandatory Lust for Life and I Wanna Be Your Dog I expected way less "sadder Rolling Stones". Lyrics are very repetitive, but that's the whole deal. Feels trance-ish. A great album still, but a bit too much of the same thing to my taste. Read up on it - I knew David Bowie was involved!
Your Bob Dylan tribute needs more harmonica. Nice pipes on track 2. Otherwise, not my jam. Best of Indie 2014 playlist material.
The "oh, I know this song" simulation. Hard to distinguish whether I really like it or am nostalgic about it. Surprising amount of gun references. Interesting to hear a lot of stuff that became a staple in music for years to come. Definitely more listener-friendly than some if their other stuff: Hairspray Queen still haunts me 16 years later. Territorial Pissings intro is pure gold. It is now time to make it unclear
Charged by the system for murdering the rhythm. 1993 exoticness. Jacques Cousteau could never get this low. Super cool and very 30 years ago. What always confused me about Gangsta Rap is that all the songs are about how cool and dangerous the author is, and how he can tell you the sickest story ever, but he never does. And then we get Lo-Fi Hip-Hop Beats to Study and Relax to. But indeed, Wu-Tang Clan ain't nothing to fuck with.
Boring and same-y. I tried to write anything else, but I could not
Soundwise an amazing piece - it has everything from funky bass licks to jazz arrangements, to 90s hip-hop staples. As for lyrics, I'm really confused. Kendrick spends the first third if this album in age-old issues of bitches, money and being tough. There are pieces on dick size and an ode to vaginal walls. Then he transitions to personal crises and struggles of African-american population. It is hella hard for me to put everything into a cohesive narrative here. I really tried to like this album, but since I'm definitely not the "target audience" it got lost on me.
The album is nice and easy. Makes me want to go on a summer roadtrip.
Songs feel a bit same. With Gypsy Woman - a nice exception. Does not jam my jams
This is a reggae album. Probably has some strong social-political commentary in it. Sounds mostly like any other record of this genre. Weird fades in and out and skips on some tracks. Wasn't impressed.
Some get strong, some get strange. Not a fan of Neil's voice, but the album as a whole was a pleasant experience.
This is awesome! Especially liked the Little Ghost and Nurse. A bit of horror with a hefty dose of twang.
Melancholic 2000s sound. Can easily imagine half of the tracks as an opening to some drama/crime series
So long and so weird! Keeps you on your toes, and you don't know what to expect: - Lovesong - Lovesong - SYNTH VIOLENCE - A gentle ballad What could be your mom's favourite is so much more
Can't add anything meaningful
I thought I've heard every bit of new-metal-post-grunge-music-with-a-DJ way back when it was mainstream. Is this what my possible grandkids will call "old folks stuff"? The funky bass section is great, though! Oh how I love Wikipedia: Boyd reflected on the tension in a 2001 interview with Spin, saying that "when we're making music together, it's like five men making love — in a very platonic sense."
"Respect" was one of the tracks from my crappy mp3 player when I was 16. So I was like: "Hey, Aretha! How's it going?" and she was like: "I've been dead for 5 years!". So that's that. Aretha has a powerful voice and the music is also really good. While I'm not super into each and every track here, it is a thing worth listening. Would recommend!
I can be easily bought with a harmonica. But the rest is quite questionable. "Man Needs a Maid" is the weirdest song I've heard in a while. I don't know what happened in Alabama in 1972 and I don't want to know.
Felt like a blur of softcore lounge music. Not great, not terrible. Probably won't listen again
I think I should stop calling every second album "same-y". Looks like it is just a concept for 70-80s pop stuff. This sounds palatable, I could probably give a second listen to some tracks. The amount of devotion bordering on stalking in the lyrics is a bit alarming. However, in the titular track Carole sees a man turn into a toad, and then Gandalf shows up to take her for a walk. What the hell is a Natural Woman? Does an Artificial Woman exist?
Bonus points for hurdy gurdy. Everything - a hard pass. I don't have any spare change.
REM is ok, but not what I want or need.
Post-punk 80s stuff: whail-y vocals, overcrancked bass, trippy lyrics. What's not to like here? Titular track probably my favourite
Some of these songs are what my disease-ridden brain will remember as "good old days" when I'm 90 years old. I've heard Tumbling Dice hundreds of times and still like it. To be fair, this is 29 year old Mic Jagger singing some very inspired-by classic Rock & Roll and RnB tunes. By today's standards it would be like Lil Nas X releasing a Pet Shop Boys inspired album. Keith Richards was already in his Half-Man-Half-Heroine phase, so there is not much of his guitar flourishes here. I din't think its their best album, but I really dig it's atmosphere: sounds more like a jam session, than a studio album. Like you're at a party or something.
A pleasant listen on a shitty November day. At times too preachy for my taste, but alright overall.
Turns out, I like Arctic Monkeys. How did I miss this?
This one has more well-known hits: like Run Through The Jungle and Up Around The Bend. Good times all around!
The Bunnymen are ok, but Mr Echo shut up for a sec please, would you kindly? By the end I got pretty annoyed by the vocals
I don't get it. Is this a joke or too much a product of its time?
A pleasant listen, compared to to the few other recent titles from this list. Much more gentle than I expected
You've tuned in to *radroach screech* Mojave Music Radio *gunshot* Where we play nothing but jazz, jazz, jazz! *Nuka Cola bottle opens*
Don't know if I'm too young or too old for this thing. Did not "catch" me
Powerful and fun. One more good find
Loved the atmosphere! How High The Moon made me laugh.
Piano / keys were nice. Otherwise kinda bland
Fun guys as always. Plus their biggest hit is on this record
Really enjoyed this. One more interesting band I've never heard about
The cover is cool. There is jazzy-jazz inside. Synth base is fun
Is two tracks per album a Jazz thing or a Miles Davis thing? Enjoyed it any way! Love me an electric organ
Seems I should have liked this album, but I did not. Feels off, can't explain why
Interesting to see a live album here. Heard most of.the songs 100s of times before, but never a live version. Loved the keyboard fill-ins between the tracks
is this and yes weird album only tomorrow is nothing sounds fun wonder 2 would recommend b m w
Why add the most cheesy-vanilla Metallica album here? It is literally dumbed-down to please an average listener. Something to show your grandparents to prove you are not in a Satanic cult. This is not why they are good or revolutionary in their genre.
Never heard anything before except for I'll Do Anything for Love. Great voice and interesting arrangement. Did not know that Musical soundtracks vere that popular.
7 Baby Jesuses out of 10
I don't really like Bruce
Starman fucking rocks!
The generation that was young at the time of the release (in their 60s and 70s now) kinda fucked up, didn't they? Unfortunately no Homo Superior happened. Sorry, David. The album is nice, kinda cheesy at times (see Fill Your Heart). Is There Life on Mars is still really really good. Metallica definitely was inspired by Andy Warhol riff in their Master of Puppets:)
Nice
Man, it is really weird. Liked the previous two from this list better
First couple of tracks were somewhat interesting. But then, no. Could not finish it.
Oh noes, synthpop :( Now I have to clean up all of these synths and pops
One more band I've never new anything about before. Enjoyed the album. Kraftwerk-esque intro was nice.
This is the AC/DC album you've heared before. If you can stand the vocals it's pretty good.
Don't give cocaine to bards. Honk!
Instrumental tracks were nice, but nothing special.
We did not get along
Cool! Does not include my favourite songs, but still a great listen
This kinda sucks
These 80+ old guys used to be a boy-band. And an international symbol for "sexy bad boys". And it shows, hence, the predatory-ish lyrics. Still enjoyed most of it. But definitely a product of its time.
Hell yeah! More fuzz!
This was fun
Not bad. Liked most of it
Heard it a 1000 times
Must have been mind blowing in 93. Big Time Sensuality could easily pass as a Sonic The Hedgehog 3 soundtrack.
A nice Grunge album from the 90s.
That's my jam!
Kinda boring
Awesome
Turns out I cannot listen to Offspring anymore. Am I too old now?
This is a jazz album. Did I enjoy it? Yes. Will I listen to it again? Probably no. Cool cover art
Some tracks are timeless hits, some are ok I guess
Black Keys are pretty good
Still slaps!
This is one of the most important albums of my life. Master of Puppets is the song I heard the most times. Highly recommend listening to live versions of Battery and Orion with Jason Newstead on bass.
Features one of the world's most annoying songs
A very fun album
Amazing bass lines. Did not listen to much of King Crimson asid from the Court. Pretty impressive, but not a 100% match with me
Weird songs about school
I fucking love Cars. Thank you, PS1 racing games. Shame the real future sucks
Sad and mid
A pleasant relaxing album if you are into it
I have a soft spot for Queen. Even the car song.
Sheesh
Oh my God, Becky! It is so big! Has several of my favourite Outkast tracks
I liked some musical arrangements, but not a fan of lyrics and/or Kanye as a character
Awesome! 5/4 had been my alarm for years
Very good, but feels a bit repetitive in the second half
It's very 2000s if you're into that
Missed out on this when it just released and I was the prime target audience. It's ok I guess
Bog standard love songs. Not great, not terrible
Had a lot of fun with this one
