Duran DuranThis smells like it sounds.
This smells like it sounds.
About as low key as you can get. It was done lickety split
Was like a Bob Dylan album with other bits
Sometimes felt like Windows XP was finished loading, or something. So pre Y2K.
Repeater is right. Stand after standard. I've never really jumped on this train.
This is a benchmark album. I grow tired of Johnny pretty quickly, but can appreciate why it is so special to so many.
Quite the onslaught for a 8am drive to work. It settled down, but became more forgettable towards the end.
Amazing release at the time. I like a lot of what they did. Feels a little dated now though.
How sacralicious. I think I like the Manic Street Preachers now more than before.
This smells like it sounds.
A lot of water and directions in these song titles. Kinda boring to start off. Sultans of Swing was a standout, again showing why hits are hits.
I was expecting all sex on fire and stuff but got prosaic and limp like gear.
Only got half way through and thought I know what's coming next so switched it off. Quite a lot of the same
It's good to have these old time tunes on the list. Interesting to see how times and thinking about music evolve.
I had to live through that first time round. My GF at the time was a big fan. nExT!
Hmmmm. No thanks
My prejudice was on display here.
My eye! I felt like I was finding something new when I discovered this as a teen.
Like a TV soap on the radio, I never really saw the full picture here. I'm not going to finish the season of this particular TV show.
The Contino Sessions turned out very differently than I expected it to after two songs. I'm going to have to revisit this one as it was full of surprises.
This is a legacy album. It isn't Bowie's best work, but I feel privileged that he could share one last album as a star in its final throws of life. I distinctly remember the weekend that I heard the title track on the radio. Bowie had just died and I was melancholy for two days. This music reflects that kinda vibe.
This was like proto-The Darkness. Permission to Land early eighties style.
Next...
A little trip to somewhere different. Nice tunes for today.
What a wonderful and sad album. Heart and tats on a sleeve, life in a broken shot glass, laid bare for a world to celebrate and mourn over.
I prefer the banana album. Probably needed to be in the right time and right place to fully appreciate this one. Andy Warhol was a loss to this group, even though he is unlikely to have actually done anything for the sound of the band.
Kinda like Blue in parts. A lower grade, kinda forgettable Blue, but you know, I thought about the link more than once.
Two Velvet underground albums in three days.. At least we got the good one last.
It's the beginning of a new age. The age of the romantics.
I have always loved the title track for this album. Surprisingly, this is the first time I've investigated the remainder of the album. Totally enjoyable and I'm likely to be back.
Nice little record.
A whole lotta the same thing. I grew bored quickly. Next!
Let's chalk that up. More country than Beyonce's new album for sure.
So very 80s.
Not really my flavour but I appreciate it's place in music history.
Oh Frank. You are an enigma.
I feel this cup has been filled already.
Is this the second Femi Kuti album? Sounds familiar.
I went into this thinking of a different band. Initially surprised, eventually comforted, it was a fine live album of life's simple things.
I read a few comments, they made me laugh. Thinking about this music being for adolescents who were suffering through a messy divorce made a lot of sense to me. So much anger, so much effort going into a persona that was veiling the truth, so much image that was pathetic to the masses. White man rap can work occasionally but not here. New metal was a trip....
I really hate anything Kid Rock is or stands for. What a complete loser.
Nothing to complain about here, just not super memorable.
This feels like proto-Lenny. The time just before he was an idol to the masses. Kinda good, but also just kinda good.
Another Sonic Youth album. I think one would have been ample, but we are up to 3!
That record should have been included in any well considered time capsule from the 90s.
I've seen countless photos of Siouxsie with other icons if the era. She was really groundbreaking and influential. I'm glad to have this album in the 1001, although not my favourite it deserves it's place in the top shelf.
After the first track I was thinking this would be all too much. After the seventh track I was thinking this was all too easy. Monotony settles in after a while and the known is all too familiar. Take from that what you will.
Not sure this rekid would get made, or phrased the same way at least, in our modern world. But man that kid plays a mean pinball... What's next, the The Wiz soundtrack with MJ? Surely that has dated better?
Oh my, did a bunch of people gush over this album when I was in high school! Gotta admit, it is worth a spot in the top portion of this list. Never a real fan, but FNM totally have my respect. Mike Patton is a true innovator and one hell of a vocalist.
Woah! Slow down egghead. More bongo than you can poke a drumstick at.
I get a funny giddy thrill when I first heard Xtina's voice. It is pretty unique and quite impressive for a bit. I'd give this 4 stars if I could actually eat the whole album in one bite, but is just a bit too much.
Not a fan.
Urgh.
A very interesting album full of moments to contemplate.
I have clear memories of the first time I listened to this album. Such a great night time headphone session. Still like it, despite it not making its way into my regular rotation.
Ye old worldly guitar. So many attribute so much to this musician. I appreciate it's simplicity.
Listened to the first few tracks, got hung up on the voice. Realised it was the Arctic Monkeys dude and did a quick Google. Discovered the story and also that 4 songs was kinda my limit.
