Popular Reviews

Duck Stab/Buster & Glen by The Residents

Dear god, this was genuinely difficult to listen to. The whole album was weird and off-putting. It could be the soundtrack to a demonic carnival. Easily the worst album I've ever listened to. Zero stars.

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Sep 28 2024

Sarah Vaughan has a fantastic voice, but this isn't an album I'd listen to again. I don't think I'm a big jazz fan. This might be nice background music at a low key dinner party.

Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine
Sep 29 2024

This is definitely more up my alley! Heavy beats, lots of different sounds and styles, and funky riffs. I knew Rage was political, but this was the first time I've listened to an album straight through and it was more "eat the rich" than I expected (totally ok with that). Good album to work out to.

Off The Wall by Michael Jackson
Sep 30 2024

Loved the first half of this album - it was fun and got me dancing while cooking. The second half, not so much. Solid 3.5 stars.

Oct 01 2024

Outstanding - everything a rock album should be. Great music, haunting vocals, and each song sounded distinct. I knew I liked Muse, but I never listened to an album start to finish. I like how this one is arranged and will absolutely listen to it again.

Oct 02 2024

I liked this album. Lots of pretty solid songs and one stand out for me (Stop Me If You Think You've Heard This One Before). I'll probably listen to this one again. I'd give it 3.5 stars.

Dummy by Portishead
Oct 03 2024

Really unique sound, I like her voice a lot. I could see listening to this again when I'm trying to relax and unwind.

Here's Little Richard by Little Richard
Oct 04 2024

This album was really fun and fast paced! I didn't expect to enjoy it as much as I did. Some of the songs sounded pretty similar and often the lyrics got a little repetitive. Maybe that's just a feature of music at the time?

Smash by The Offspring
Oct 05 2024

This one brings me back to high school. I'm a fan of the Offspring and I remembered this being a high energy album. I never really paid attention to the lyrics of some of the less popular songs and didn't realize they had a relatively serious message.

Group Sex by Circle Jerks
Oct 06 2024

Songs are really short and yelly. Some sounded like they had some potential. Will not listen to this one again.

Miriam Makeba by Miriam Makeba
Oct 07 2024

Makeba has a beautiful voice, but this album wasn't really for me.

She's So Unusual by Cyndi Lauper
Oct 08 2024

Essential 80s listening. I do love me some Cindy Lauper!

The Dreaming by Kate Bush
Oct 09 2024

Talented artist with a distinct sound, but too weird for me. Not really my style.

Reign In Blood by Slayer
Oct 10 2024

I like metal music, but the lyrics always come up short for me. Not sure what I'm hoping for, but I guess this wasn't it.

Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers
Oct 11 2024

Good for background music, I guess. Aside from the first song (Block Rockin' Beats), nothing really stood out to me. Didn't hate it, but won't listen to this album again.

Green River by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Oct 12 2024

Solid CCR record. Makes me think of eating ribs at a BBQ joint when I hear them.

Duck Stab/Buster & Glen by The Residents
Oct 13 2024

Dear god, this was genuinely difficult to listen to. The whole album was weird and off-putting. It could be the soundtrack to a demonic carnival. Easily the worst album I've ever listened to. Zero stars.

We Are Family by Sister Sledge
Oct 14 2024

Some really fun songs. Good voices.

Hot Buttered Soul by Isaac Hayes
Oct 15 2024

Aptly named album, but man, these are some long ass songs. Not my style.

Tommy by The Who
Oct 16 2024

The idea of a rock opera is pretty cool. I liked most the music on this one.

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
Oct 17 2024

Great first song, but the album faded pretty quickly for me after that. Not bad, but nothing amazing.

Golden Hour by Kacey Musgraves
Oct 18 2024

I liked this album in spite of myself. She's got a really nice voice. Not a fan of the songs with the traditional country twang, but there were plenty of songs I genuinely enjoyed.

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Oct 19 2024

Enjoyed this album a lot. Funky reggae guitar riffs and a great beat. I'll be listening to more Bob Marley for sure.

Underwater Moonlight by The Soft Boys
Oct 20 2024

Just ok at best. Some songs weren't terrible, but plenty of them were.

Debut by Björk
Oct 21 2024

How have I never listened to this album before??? Enjoyed this one a lot, wonderfully weird and eclectic.

The Infotainment Scan by The Fall
Oct 23 2024

Ugh. Did not care for the vocals or the lyrics. Some of the music was ok.

Vanishing Point by Primal Scream
Oct 24 2024

Not my favorite, but not the worst ever.

Tarkus by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Oct 25 2024

Ugh. Another weird album. It's getting tough to listen to these.

The Slim Shady LP by Eminem
Oct 26 2024

Pretty solid first album. Not his best, but you can tell Eminem is talented. Some problematic lyrics (obviously), but some good songs too.

Justified by Justin Timberlake
Oct 27 2024

Classic 2000s pop. There's some bangers that take me back to college on this album. I could do without the ballads tho.

Oct 28 2024

Good god, what a word salad. I want to like Bob Dylan, but I just don't. I like the rhythm and guitar in some of the songs, but this album is a miss for me overall.

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
Oct 29 2024

Not bad. Jazz is just not for me.

Shleep by Robert Wyatt
Oct 30 2024

Did not care for this. At all. I was excited to see an album from the 90s, but this was not my jam. Legitimately difficult to listen to.

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Nov 02 2024

Classic Billy Joel!

Red Dirt Girl by Emmylou Harris
Nov 03 2024

Very chill folk rock music. She has a nice voice. Kinda the same vibe as the Indigo Girls, but not as good imho.

Homework by Daft Punk
Nov 04 2024

I've learned there's a handful of Daft Punk songs I like, and many that I do not.

On The Beach by Neil Young
Nov 05 2024

Not a fan and I don't care for Neil Young's voice. Some of the music was ok, then he'd start singing and ruin it for me.

Live / Dead by Grateful Dead
Nov 08 2024

Maybe I wasn't stoned enough.

Who's Next by The Who
Nov 09 2024

Too long, but pretty good.

Treasure by Cocteau Twins
Nov 10 2024

Ethereal vibes, but too weird for me. Most of the songs sound the same.

Good Old Boys by Randy Newman
Nov 13 2024

Could have done without this one.

Nov 16 2024

I like Queen a lot, but this album is only mediocre.

Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter
Nov 17 2024

Pretty chill. A little on the weird side, but overall pleasantly surprised by this album.

Funeral by Arcade Fire
Nov 18 2024

Pretty good overall. Very chill.

Here Are the Sonics by The Sonics
Nov 21 2024

This album grew on me. I like their takes on some oldies. The Sonics know how to make a racket.

Calenture by The Triffids
Nov 22 2024

I liked some of these songs, but far more of them I didn't. This did not need to be a double disc album. Lots of cheesy ass lyrics.

Reggatta De Blanc by The Police
Nov 23 2024

Message in a bottle is a great song, but they never recreated that energy on the rest of the album for me. With each passing song, I disliked this album more.

Pretenders by Pretenders
Nov 24 2024

Ok enough. Lots of the songs sounded pretty similar to me. I like the vocals, but the album was so-so.

Bayou Country by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Nov 25 2024

Pretty solid overall.

Coat Of Many Colors by Dolly Parton
Nov 26 2024

Man, country music is depressing. Can't say I enjoyed this album, but Dolly has a distinct voice and style.

The Gershwin Songbook by Ella Fitzgerald
Nov 27 2024

Ella has a beautiful voice, but how many songs about wanting a man can one sing?! Apparently 3 hours and 14 minutes worth. Six albums worth. I couldn't get through the whole thing, it got so repetitive.

Killing Joke by Killing Joke
Nov 28 2024

This album has the general vibe of my favorite dive bar and I'm totally here for it.

Morrison Hotel by The Doors
Nov 29 2024

Really enjoyed this album. The sound is really distinct.

Rumours by Fleetwood Mac
Nov 30 2024

Damn near perfect. Beautiful guitar and vocals. Big fan of this one.

Getz/Gilberto by Stan Getz
Dec 02 2024

Very smooth. I could see myself putting this on as background music. This mellowed out my commute a lot!

Bryter Layter by Nick Drake
Dec 03 2024

Clearly a talented guitarist, but not really my jam.

Machine Head by Deep Purple
Dec 04 2024

Awesome guitar solos! Solid rock album.

Blackstar by David Bowie
Dec 05 2024

Not a fan of this one.

The College Dropout by Kanye West
Dec 07 2024

Solid rap album. It's a shame Kanye lost his mind, he's very talented.

Darkdancer by Les Rythmes Digitales
Dec 08 2024

I enjoyed this one. It got a little repetitive, but I guess that's the nature of the genre. Cool to know how many other artists samples these guys.

At Folsom Prison by Johnny Cash
Dec 09 2024

I liked this Johnny Cash album more than some of his others. The boom-chicka guitar line is fun, but it does get kind of repetitive.

Young Americans by David Bowie
Dec 10 2024

Really good! I like this much better than his later works.

Shaka Zulu by Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Dec 11 2024

I was digging it, but only 3 of the 10 songs were available on Spotify?

Femi Kuti by Femi Kuti
Dec 12 2024

I enjoyed it, but it got kind of repetitive. Reminded me of Dave Matthews for some reason .

Deep Purple In Rock by Deep Purple
Dec 13 2024

No single song stood out, but I like the sound of the entire album. The guitar is really good.

Crime Of The Century by Supertramp
Dec 14 2024

Solidly meh. Nothing stood out as great, but also nothing god awful.

After The Gold Rush by Neil Young
Dec 15 2024

I like the music, but I'm not a fan of Neil's voice. I thought it would grow on me, but that was not the case.

Scissor Sisters by Scissor Sisters
Dec 16 2024

Lots of fun songs! Sounds like they were heavily influenced by Elton John and Boy George.

Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
Dec 17 2024

Very chill album. I appreciate Cat Stevens' musical talent, but I don't think I'm really into folk music.

A Girl Called Dusty by Dusty Springfield
Dec 18 2024

I was surprised by how many of these songs I knew. This album got very repetitive. It seems like if you were a woman singer in this time period, you had to sing almost exclusively about men 🙄

Heartattack And Vine by Tom Waits
Dec 19 2024

Very distinct voice and sound. The album grew on me.

Aqualung by Jethro Tull
Dec 20 2024

I didn't expect the flute to be so prominent. Definitely recognized a few songs.

Back In Black by AC/DC
Dec 21 2024

This is what a rock album is supposed to be! Unique vocals and awesome guitar riffs.

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Dec 23 2024

A little more honky tonk than I expected (and wanted). Some solid songs.

Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots by The Flaming Lips
Dec 24 2024

I was never really a fan of The Flaming Lips. This album was better than I expected, but not something I'd listen to again.

Roger the Engineer by The Yardbirds
Dec 25 2024

I wasn't sure what to expect with this album, but I genuinely enjoyed it. I like the guitar a lot, recognized some 12 bar shuffles and some familiar riffs. Will probably listen to this one again.

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
Dec 27 2024

What a gifted musician and song writer. I enjoyed this album a lot. Great vocals and finger picking on the guitar. The arrangements were very simple and perfectly executed.

Amnesiac by Radiohead
Jan 01 2025

I wasn't a Radiohead fan in my 20s, but two decades later I'm definitely feeling them. They've got such a unique sound, but the vocals can get a little whiny.

1977 by Ash
Jan 02 2025

I'm sure I've heard the banks before, but they've got a pretty generic 90's rock sound. I like the album, but I don't think it was particularly good.

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
Jan 04 2025

Really captivating voice. I was surprised that I enjoyed this album at all. Not my usual style, but I liked the darkness.

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Jan 07 2025

It all kinda ran together. Had an ethereal 90's vibe. Pretty nondescript.

London Calling by The Clash
Jan 08 2025

Not a big fan of The Clash, but some songs were fun.

Jan 09 2025

Dear god, what horrible noise. I couldn't finish the album. How is this guy an influential British rapper?
