At Folsom Prison
Johnny CashNever listened to Johnny before except an occasion song on the radio. Some very good lyrics on this album and I particularly enjoyed 25 Minutes

I had never heard of this band before and I won't be rushing to hear them again. Every song sounded the same. Boring 😴
Love Dave Brubeck and this album doesn't disappoint. Take 5 is a piece of music that everybody knows even if they don't know the artist. Will definitely add this to my favorites on Spotify for when I'm in the mood for some jazz
This album was good fun and I really enjoyed listening. I much preferred it to the Folsom Prison album which popped up on here recently mainly because there were a few songs I knew already. Favourite song, Starkville City Jail..... $36 for picking dandelions 🤣
Loved this album since it was released. I first discovered Arctic Monkeys when they were still an Internet band so I already knew some of the songs before the album was released and infact I still prefer the early mp3 download of Certain Romance to the album version. I would go as far as saying that this album is genius especially given the age of the band when they wrote these great tunes and quirky lyrics
Not a fan of Coldplay but I would definitely say their earlier material is their best work and this album is actually very good. Every song from this album used to get radio play back in the day and in my opinion is their best album. Definitely worthy of a place in 1001 albums
Brilliant, loved every track. Paint it Black remains one of my all time favourite songs
Didn't really know much about Elliott Smith before I listened to this album but I really enjoyed it. I will be searching and listening to other material by him. Favourite track Son of Sam
Not my Genre but some very interesting lyrics. I listened to this on headphones whilst mowing my lawn so I didn't piss off my neighbours twice 😅
Really good album and I enjoyed listening to it today for the first time in ages. Although I like this album it is nowhere near as good as Demon Days though. Albarn is very good at everything he does and this album didn't disappoint
What can I say....., you will have to go a long way to find a better debut album than this. Every song is top notch. Mr Brightside and All these things are 2 songs I hear all the time covered by local amateur pub bands and they always get great reception. I was at Glastonbury 2019 with my Girlfriend (now wife) and my Daughter when the Killers headlined and I can honestly say it was the best live performance I have ever attended and I've been to a lot! Great band, great album
Gets better after track 1. That's about all I can say really. Prog rock, it's not for everyone
Everyone says they like a bit of Floyd but only hard-core fans actually listen to a whole album. I like this album but in my opinion if falls far short of Dark Side of the Moon.
I played this album to death when it was first released and I still love it now. Jack White is an extraordinary talent and I enjoy listening to just about everything he produces. Seven nation army still gets lots of radio play but for me the best track on Elephant is Ball and Biscuit, just brilliant
I need to be in the right mood to listen to this type of music but I do enjoy a bit of Sheryl Crow and am very fortunate to have seen her live at Glastonbury 2019. This is a really great album with many good songs and for me the best track is Leaving Vegas.
Not for me, I've never been a Dylan fan. I appreciate some great lyrics and the message he is putting across in some songs. It's all the same; vocals, harmonica, vocals, harmonica. You would have thought he could have paid a session musician to play harmonica whist he sang at the same time! I notice some of his biggest hits such as Blowing in the wind and Times they are a-changin' are not on here so I'm guessing there are more Dylan albums in the 1001 ffs! For me the best track was Sad-eyed Lady of the Lowlands ....... because it was the last one
Brilliant, loved every track. Paint it Black remains one of my all time favourite songs
A Beatles fan since I was a child I used to listen to this album on an old Grundig reel to reel tape player. By no means my favourite Beatles album but some great songs my favourites being It Wont be Long and All my Loving. I think this album is best remembered for its covers rather than original Beatles songs
Very nice album. Who doesn't like the Eagles? Easy listening is how to best describe these songs. It's the kind of album I would play if I ever got to drive along Route 66. Everyone knows the first 3 songs and that won't change for a few decades to come. Needs more than one listen to fully appreciate how good this album is...
Luckily this album ended just as I was about to kick the stool away....
I'm a huge fan of The Beach Boys, always have been as was my mum. I pre ordered this album back in 2004 and was a little disappointed until I had played it a few times. I think it helps to know about the life and struggles of the genius Brian Wilson and the story of this album and eventual release. It certainly won't be to everyone's taste but the melodies.... the harmonies.... it's art!
Really good album. Northern Soul meets Punk. It was new and fresh and different back in the day and still gets plenty of airplay today. Northern soul is enjoying a revival at the moment and if you go to any soul cafe or other venue playing soul music there is a good chance the dj will slip in one or two Dexys songs.
Great artist, great album. This is probably from his best and most creative period of his amazing career but that's only my opinion. The man was a genius and a legend and his untimely passing has left a void in the music industry
This is the third Cash album I have listened to on 1001 and so far this is my favourite. Recorded shortly before he died you can hear the age in his voice but I think that adds to something extra to the finished product. Favourite track is Personal Jesus
Never heard of Gram Parsons before today but I quite enjoyed this album. Easy listening. Shame he died young and never reached the fame he could/should have had
Anger, politics, controversy, shock factor, aggression, bad language, attitude, this album has it all. Punk rock done properly. Love it!
Karen had such a great voice ans so easily recognisable. The Carpenters songs are timeless and this is a really good album except for their cover of 'Help!' (Even worse than Bananarama). For me though The Carpenters are radio music and not something I would choose to listen to a whole album of.
I'm not a fan of Metallica but I do understand why this is considered a great album. I was 18 when this album was released and I do vaguely remember the death of the bass player Cliff Burton in the same year. I like Rock music and I like some heavy metal but thrash metal is not my favourite. Great album though and worthy of a 4
Rock, Jazz and Pop, good melodies and harmonies, some strong lyrics and nice Sax. I enjoyed listening and Deacon Blues was my favourite track. A great album? I'm not so sure but it's way better than some that made this list
I don't like the direction Dion took with this album musically, I preferred his older Do Wap stuff. The Wanderers and Run Around Sue are songs that I immediately associate with Dion, not this boring drivel I have just listened to.
Yep, that was Metallica, just like it says on the tin
Absolutely loved it, which surprised me as this isn't usually my thing. Listened to it twice infact. Great stuff
Rapwith a silent 'C' He must have been delighted when he realised 'Nigga' 'Trigger' and 'Bigger all rhyme
Beautiful! What a voice! Such a huge vocal range. Some great songs on here including some classics such as (you make me feel like) a natural woman which was composed by the brilliant Carole King. You can't be a music fan and not be able to appreciate a bit of Aretha. It's just a shame that some of it sounds like it was recorded in a garden shed
I've seen Peter Hook live and he is clearly a major player in the music industry over many decades. I love Joy Division and New Order but for me this album has too much acid house influence but saying that I didn't dislike it
I didn't need to listen to rate this as I've played this album a thousand times! I'm a Green Day fan anyway and saw them live at the Emirates Stadium London a few years ago. Billy Joe Armstrong has such a great and distinctive voice and the superb material and brilliant production all together make this one of the greatest albums you will ever hear. In their own words this is a Punk Rock Opera mainly telling the story of Jesus of Suburbia an adolescent anti hero. This album gets a 5 from me
Not as bad as some of the other Rap I've been subjected to to but still not for me. This album is a bit gentler and kinder on the ears then most rap I've come across so I'll give it a 2
I've always liked Adele and this is her best album. Most of it is concentrated on her breakup with her partner which was obviously traumatic for her and like Amy Winehouse she channelled these emotions into her music. Some say it's depressing but the strength in her voice and the sincerity of the delivery make this album a true work of art. Set Fire to the Rain is one of my all time favourite songs by a female artist. It's a 5 for me
This was new to me but I must say I enjoyed it. I didn't sit and listen though, I put it on Alexa on all devices and listened as I moved from room to room doing shit. Although this was 70s I could hear some new wave 80s style vibes come through along with some Punk and even Glam Rock at times. I'm surprised this band and this album didn't achieve greater success
What a great album. I've always been a fan of the beachboys since my mum used to play their records when I was a kid. Some very good tracks on here such as When I Grow Up, Do you Wanna Dance and the cherry on top Help me Ronda! Brian Wilson at his best putting together experimental sounds and clever harmonies and melodies. It's all too easy to listen to Greatest Hits albums but we really need to listen to the original albums and hear the tracks we wouldn't normally get to hear. 5
Wonderful! I was surprised to read that this album produced no hit singles yet three of Costello's best loved songs are on hear. Alison is just a great ballad and Red Shoes is another brilliant song and on the American release the album included Watching the Detectives which I rate almost as highly as Olivers Army. As a debut album they don't come much better than this
Really good, Christie Hind has such a distinct voice and if you like it you're half way there as the songs were very good too. Brass in Pocket still gets lots of radio airplay in the UK and it is such a brilliant song. I think with their style of pop Punk music they may well have inspired others along the way. I could hear similarities with bands like Razorlight as I listened. Definitely deserves a 4
I'm not a Hedrix fan if I'm honest although I do admire his work. This album was way too long for me but it did start off really well with Have you ever been to (Electric Ladyland) and Crosstown Traffic, 2 great tracks. I then listened to a few minutes of Voodoo Chile but then had to go for a shit, shower and shave and when I returned it was still playing ffs! I thought Alexa was fucking about but it turns out the track is 15 minutes long! Anyway, I appreciate that he was good at what he did but personally I'm glad he stopped making music at age 27...... Still giving a 4 though because it can't be easy playing a guitar upside-down for 15 continuous minutes
Nope!
Loved this album when it first came out.... for about a week and then I hated it and every time I saw that Justin Hawkins on TV I wanted to punch him in the face. He has one of those faces I'm afraid.
I have always found Radiohead boring and depressing. I appreciate they have a massive following but this is music you either get or you don't and I'm afraid I don't. Very talented band though!
Never heard of this band before so I'm assuming they didn't make it in the UK. It was ok, but by the end of the album his high pitched whiny voice hot on my nerves. However, this could grow on me if I played it more
Absolute classic,
I really enjoyed some of this album and really hated other parts but on the whole found it enjoyable but too long to listen in one go
Gotta love a bit of Fats Domino! The man just doing what he does best, fun, foot-tapping sing-along-able music that we'll deserves the acclaim
I really rate Bruce Springsteen but for me this isn't an album I would choose to listen to. I prefer the more energetic upbeat material he produces but saying that I gave this album a good listen and I can definitely appreciate the writing and production and the general theme of this work of art and I fully understand why this album is highly rated
Love it, not their best album in my opinion but nonetheless very good. Jazz funk done brilliantly but I think as a band they improved even more after this album. Jay Kay is an extraordinary talent
Monotone, bland, boring. No thanks
At last, a Bowie album! Brilliant, this is Bowie at his best but then I think Bowie was always at his best. Changes, Pretty things, Life on Mars, how do you chose a best song from that lot....
Great stuff, this album was like a greatest hits album, one classic disco track after another. I was supposed to see them live in July but the concert was postponed until next August so I look forward to that. Anyone that has ever been to a wedding or large birthday gathering will know these songs. Dancefloor fillers
Another band i have seen live. Very good album but not my favourite but still worthy of a 4. It's clear that this album was heavily influenced by Edwards struggle with depression and alcoholism.
Meh, was ok. Maybe it would grow on me with a few more listens
Pretty good actually. New to me but i enjoyed all of this and really got into some of it. Some great tunes here and clever use of wind instruments. Very good progressive rock album indeed
Great stuff! I love Chic and Nile Rodgers and have seen them live twice. Great guitar work, excellent bass lines, love it
Not for me, I just don't get the whole electronic thing
Sorry, but I don't do thrash metal. If you could hear toothache it would sound like this....
A very good well produced album. A little on the long side but I enjoyed it
I tried, I really did but the foreign lyrics made it hard to listen to for me. However, the music was outstanding. Beautiful sax and guitar very well composed
Not bad, I actually enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Good album
Love a bit of soft cell. I've seen Marc Almond a couple of times and his music has stood the test of time. Very good album and some classics amoungst the songs
Lovely to listen too. Very smooth and unique and cleverly assembled. Not something I would ordinarily listen to but this is a work of art for sure
It's a cleverly worked album but just not my genre so I struggled to listen to the whole thing. I'm a great admirer of Hancock though but just not this album
It was ok but didn't excited me
I didn't like this, I just couldn't get into it, sorry
