Getz/Gilberto
Stan GetzNice and mellow. Same repetitions ended up putting me off. Didn’t really enjoy Gilberto’s spoken lyrics. Enjoyed looking up some information about the album.

Some great vocals and folk softness while singing about some heavy subject matter. I like ‘The bed is too big and the frying pan too wide’. I liked the range of experiences in the songs - she was looking for a good time a lot of the time. Her voice is nice - but I think for me in small doses.
Always struggle with the Great American Songbook concept. She has an amazing voice and storytelling but in these songs mostly takes the role of down trodden women and that reminds me of the old films that lots of these songs feature in that haven’t stood the test of time for me. Even the songs with more positive themes are not as joyful as she could deliver. With over three hours of music this is like a coffee table album that would be rarely listened to.
Liked some of these songs but probably not the ones that Iggy is best known for. I Need Somebody and Gimme Danger are great - but style better done by The Doors and the blues. Not a fan of the screech that is a bit old rock and roll and also the inaudible lyric - even if the guitar is great.
I live Meatloaf. The drama of the rock opera story telling is great because I think he generates the impression of emotion really well. Powerful voice but a vein of vulnerability. I read about his life and noticed the contradictions in him - climate denial, COVID-19 views, vegetarianism, etc made me feel badly about him but not about his music. So I guess I like the music.
Some smooth velvet waves that remind me of some times when things have been moodful. Also some rocky patches where his introspection is too personal and didn’t connect with me. Listened to this a lot at one time so must have quite liked it then.
I like this album. The band comes together and the good times flow. Lots of memorable instrumental. Lead vocal hits the extremities without losing control. I read about their influence - including on the Stooges - and thought about imitations being better or worse than originals. There are lots of covers here that have been done better but this hard edged style is pretty cool to me. For instance Do You Live Me is a good old favourite as I step - rarely - onto the dance floor, and the version I hear is softer but with the same emotion as this version. Also scratched the surface of British Invasion music and how many songs were being re recorded by lots of bands in a short space of years - like Roll Over Beethoven. All said the most memorable songs belong to other writers and so that makes this rating on style over substance.
Lovely Christmas album. All songs have been done many times but I like the sound of the Ronettes, Darlene Love and the Crystals. Some songs have been murdered by my favourite choir so are winceable! This includes the original song on the record so that is where the rating comes from. Made me want to look up the originals - lots of country - and think about what it would be like to hear Christmas songs for the very first time.
Not their best album - prefer Breakfast in America. Some nice sections but by the end of the album it seems like everyone has gone to bed and they have been told to turn the music down. Reminds me of going to the prog rock concerts with Larry - not always hits but we listened anyway.🙂
Great idea. Instrumentally smooth considering the cutting and mixing. Would prefer there to be more extended blending of lyrical samples. Became too introspective on some tracks and although I could hear his passion, it left me a bit cold.
Nice relaxed album. Was listening to it while doing some jobs and had it as background. A nice antidote to the hustle and bustle - reminded me of the scene in Goodfellas when Henry Hill is being followed by the helicopter while shopping for the pasta recipe.
Jaunty with some quite catchy tunes.
Wanted to like this more than I did. Too urging for me and got the feeling that the music thought I was wrong for not being so into it.
I really liked this. The combination of the electronic beat and the minimalist vocals is nice.
Just messing around with musicality. I like the drum driven sounds and there are some great sections.
Great music.
A bit of greatness but can never resist the temptation to want him to burst into a bit more life. I like the biographical song writing about a complicated life.
Great album - with a few highlight songs supported by vocal and electronic mastery. Nice.
Just too slow
Overpowering marching beat - vocal not strong enough to compensate. Can hear the sound of punk in the album but without much of the charisma.
I like the build up and the entrance of the heavier instrumentals but lost the way a bit in the end.
Hard not to give this a good rating when it has In My Life on it. However, Ringo is much preferred as the voice of Thomas than the voice of the Beatles. Lots to like.
Very impressive musical composition. Once in a long while listen.
