1001 Albums Summary

My review: it is a good album but it doesn’t sound as interesting as it would have if you were there to appreciate it since it’s format was and is used often after it’s release, but even then the instrumentation is still absolutely fantastic. Though the lyrics are kind of by the book (boy wants girl) but the songs sound nice and it was a good listen. I rate it a 7/10, I appreciate that without it music would sound far less interesting than it does because of the influence this albums instrumentation had.

I enjoyed this one a lot, it’s very grungy and the vocals were very nice with some depth to the lyricism, well made album.

Heavily enjoyed, the production was interesting and not what I expected for a record like this, the lyrics were relatable sometimes and sharply written, and the vocals while not particularly unique were perfect for the contents of the songs found in here. Best songs were: Unhappy Birthday, Paint A Vulgar Picture, and Last Night I Dreamed Somebody Loved Me.

Was not my favorite, had some good tracks but I didn’t really find much click with me here. Singer was good and unique, and the instrumentation was fun but it was not the best in my opinion. Best tracks for me are: Bring On The Night, Does Everyone Stare, and On Any Other Day.

It was fine, didn’t hook me as much as i would have liked but it had some good stuff on it. Favorite tracks: Stupid Girl, Going Home (very experimental which I like), Out of Time, and Take It or Leave It.

It was a cool concept album, I enjoyed the storytelling and imagery he used in it, some of the songs were a little short for my taste however. Favorite Tracks: Time of the Preacher, and Red Headed Stranger

I'll be frank, I did not listen to the whole thing, I could not find the full thing anywhere whatsoever so I picked a few tracks and went from there. Based on those tracks I thought it was an interesting album, obviously I could not understand the language since I'm an English person but the vocals were "rough" sounding, which I'm am not sure if that was a genre thing since I'm not used to this kind of music at all, the production was cool I liked the instruments I heard going on, they sounded sort of Arabic if that makes sense but they were nice. Because of the fact I'm not able to understand this album fully I'll give it a middle of the road ranking since I don't think this deserves any lower and I'm not the best person to judge this music. Favorite Tracks: Not Sure! Maybe I'll try to give it a full listen someday, i'll try to see if i can find the full thing.

Did not feel any particular way about this album, it just kinda came and went for me. I didn’t find any tracks memorable and the mixing was meh.

This album was amazing, the cover, the tracks, their contents, absolutely awesome. This dude had some real stuff to talk about that first track on America holds true today as well. Favorite Tracks: America Is Not The World, Come Back to Camden, First Of The Gang To Die, and I Like You.

Good album, very experimental and unique, Beck managed to use Rock and Hip-Hop collectively in a cool way which I think worked well. Favorite Tracks: Devils Haircut, Where Its At, SissyNeck, and High 5.

Fun album it was very 2000s but in a good way. Favorite Songs: Time To Pretend, Electric Feel, Pieces of What, and Kids

I’m not super familiar with Reggae genre, but this was a good album, this was good dance music and the songs were all very consistent with one another so I felt like a cohesive project, I did find a few tracks here and there a tad boring, but that’s just my personal opinion. Apart from that this is a solid album and I can see why it made this list. Favorite Tracks: Concrete Jungle, 400 Years, and No More Trouble

Very 90s, it was a good time I liked a few tracks but for some reason it didn’t click with me as much as I wanted it too. Some songs went a little too long and the lyrics were a tad too repetitive and those little nitpicks I had added up for me. Favorite Tracks: This Is A Call, I’ll Stick Around, Wattershed.

I’m not really a Jazz person by any means, in fact I would go as far as to say I’m the furthest thing from a Jazz listener. But I can’t in good faith give an album 1 stars just because I don’t listen to the genre, so I tried to look at this objectively rather than from my bubble and I think 4 stars is fair, it was nice to have playing in the background while I did some work it got me in a good space to get it done. I can’t say I will be listening much to Jazz from here on out as it’s still not my music style but I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Favorite Track: Mode D, I like the different instruments he had throughout this one, reminded me of a band competition I went to one time.

You may know Lupe Fiasco from his verse on Kanye’s Late Registration on the track “Touch The Sky”. But not many people actually look further than that and listen to his albums. It’s a shame because it’s a very rewarding experience. He is a very underrated rapper and in my opinion one of the best to do it. This album is a great album, Lupe is a fantastic storyteller and lyricist, he was one of the original conscious rappers before Kendrick made it big. This is one album you should come back to more than once because everytime you will find new things you didn’t notice before (this is my second time). Favorite Tracks: Daydreamin (one of my favorite rap songs ever), The Instrumental, The Cool, Hurt Me Soul, Real, Kick Push II, He Say She Say, and Pressure. Im going to assume he doesn’t have anymore on this project, but i highly, highly recommend listening to The Cool if you enjoyed this album because it’s the sequel to this and just as great if not better.

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is a milestone for Hip-Hop and one of the best albums ever made. It is an artistic, gorgeous look into Kanye’s mind as a person. The production, and alongside it, the samples, lyrics, and features, all come together in a perfect way to create this masterpiece of an album. Not to mention, Kanye managed to get Rick Ross to pour his soul into his feature on the track “Devil In a New Dress” and he still hasn’t topped it since even on his solo work, and this album also kickstarted Nicki Minaj’s career by featuring her on “Monster” despite the fact her verse surpassed everyone else. To say this album had a cultural impact is an understatement. If someone doesn’t understand what makes Kanye so loved as an artist even after everything he has done, show them this album. I’ll admit I have a bit of a bias because this album is the one that make me love hip-hop as a genre as someone who listened to mainly rock before, but now I’m a diehard fan of it. If any album deserves to be called a magnum opus I think it’s this one. Favorite Tracks: Dark Fantasy, Devil In a New Dress, Lost In The World, So Appalled, Power, Runaway, and Hell of a Life.

A solid ep, unique topic but done well enough, Production was good and I picked up on a lot of Lauryn Hill inspiration throughout this which is always a good thing to me, though I don’t think I can see myself returning to much from this album over time. Favorite Tracks: Lost One, Price Tags, and Pick Up Your Feelings

I didn’t expect it but this album impressed me a lot I enjoyed it heavily, probably the best metal I’ve heard so far this was a great first introduction to Metallica I can see why people like them. Favorite Tracks: Harvestor of Sorrow, The Frayed Ends of Sanity, and To Live is To Die. 2nd half was peak.

It is not hard to see why this album is a classic l, i enjoyed every second of it. Dre’s production sounds as good as it ever did in this era and he rounds up a great selections of features throughout the album (Snoop Dogg, and The Lady Of Rage being my highlights). Favorite Tracks: The Day The *****s Took Over, Lil Ghetto Boy, Deeez Nuuuts, A ***** Witta Gun, and Ain’t Nuthin But A “G” Thang.

Not a bad album, I did find it a bit boring and sleepy in some places but there was good stuff on here, the last few tracks were fantastic! Favorite Tracks: The Main Who Sailed Around His Soul, Dying, Dear God, and 1000 Umbrellas.

Very atmospheric album I enjoy this kind of music, I can see why someone mind think it’s boring but I see it as moody, and cinematic. My favorite part of this one was for sure the production it was excellent throughout. Favorite Tracks: Under The Pressure, Red Eyes, and An Ocean Between The Waves.

Great album, the layed back nature of each track was great after a long day, I have no problems at all with this album, I can’t say I’m familiar with the original song he chose to cover for this album but I imagine without a doubt he did them all the originals some justice. Favorite Tracks: Stardust, Blue Sky, Moonlight in Vermont, and On The Sunny Side of The Street

I wasn’t sure how I would feel about this album because I’ve always found Punk stuff to be edgy just to be edgy but apparently I was just looking at the wrong people because this was really good, my only critique was for some reason the vocals erked me occasionally, but apart from that I was still impressed by this everything else on this project. Favorite Tracks: Bouevard of Broken Dreams, Extraordinary Girl, Wake Me Up When September Ends, and Homecoming. P.S: The Apple Music Animated Art is awesome and probably one of the best ones I’ve seen lol

This is a big improvement on their last album I heard (Aftermath). The songs here are much more fleshed out and personal, a small issue I had with the last record was that too many of the songs felt sort of generic sounding, but that is mostly mitigated here to a few tracks, I think this a great improvement, not perfect but a step up for sure. For a more in depth review, I thought the 1st half of the album dragged on a little bit with a few songs, which is a bad thing on a 10 song album, but the second half really shined and delivered some great stuff, I hope their later albums continue that when I one day listen to them. Rating: Great (4.1 Stars) Favorite Tracks: Wild Horse (Best Track On First Half), I Got The Blues, Sister Morphine, and Bitch.

To preface this: I don’t know much about Elvis apart from how he changed music, and his impact (and his banger PB&J&B sandwich), since I was born way, way after that time, so I don’t know at all how this compares to the rest of his discography so I have to rate this on its own. There is some good stuff on this album, he covers some nice sounds and it’s fun to listen to, but I’ll probably only return to maybe 1 or 2 songs off of here because the rest didn’t leave a huge impact on me, but I will say I enjoyed the lyrics over the upbeatness of the tracks, man was really trynna get with his best friends girlfriend, haha. Anyways, I enjoyed this, not a bad listen, not my favorite ever, but not half bad. Rating: Good (Strong ☆☆☆) Favorites: Fever (I actually really like this one a lot, Thrill Of Your Love, It Feels So Right.

A while back I listened to TVU&N before I even started this project out of pure curiosity, and one thing that I found great about the album was the vocals, something about Nico and Lou's just clicked with me from how unique they were, It took me a little bit to link Lou Reed with Velvet Underground but when I did I was highly looking forward to listening to this album, and it definitely did not disappoint in the slightest. i can be very critical, but I genuinely do not have any issues with any of the songs here, I wouldn't skip a single one. Lou's vocals are great as I had hoped even if this albums sound is more mainstream it did not affect my enjoyment even slightly, lyrically it is very entertaining and to me that's what matters on an album like this. Rating: Fantastic (Decent ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Walk On The Wild Side, Wagon Wheel, I'm So Free, Make Up, and Hangin' Around.

What the fuck? I feel trolled, is this what cavemen listened to back in the early days? Whatever they were saying in this must have been caveman language because it certainly aint a language people speak today. The only good thing here was the instrumentation which was actually pretty good but whatever the fuck else was going on didn’t do much for me. Rating: Trash (Light ☆) Favorite Tracks: Dont really want to return to anything here ever. I lowkey deleted this shit from my library, I haven’t done that before so take that how you will. Also I accidentally played this during class on full volume, so that’s fun.

First of all. Wow. I have nothing but praise for this one. To get this started, I have read about Nick Drake and his story is very tragic, he made some great stuff and it is a shame no one noticed until after his story was over. This is a haunting and beautiful album, the music feels and sounds very raw, the instrumentation only containing a sparse acoustic guitar creates an atmosphere perfect for an album like this, it is underlined with sadness but contains small pockets of joy, this is an introspective, melancholic, and gentle album which comes together in a perfectly wrapped package of an album, it is a short 28 minutes, and uses every minute exceptionally well, it doesn’t overstay its welcome, and it doesn’t leave me feeling like it should have been longer. It doesn’t get better than an album like this. Rating: Masterpiece (Strong ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Pink Moon, Place To Be, Which Will, Know, and Free Ride.

This is a pretty solid album, I liked the second half more than the first, I’m not sure I can describe why but the first few tracks didn’t click much with me, I enjoyed the slower tracks of the second half more, I do think with was a solid album though it’s a classic for a reason. Rating: Good (Strong ☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Down By The Seaside, In The Light, Kashmir.

Ice Cube was one of the artists I was interested in the hearing the most since he is an important part of hip-hop history, and hip-hop is the genre I find the most interesting to me. I can’t say I’m disappointed by this at all. Production kicks, flows are confident and entertaining, and lyrically there are good things to be said here. This album talks racial tensions and how they still have effects on people, hip-hops place as a genre of “violence” and “hate”, all in ways which are digestible and entertaining for the listener to hear. I don’t think this is the best rap album from this year (“wink, wink, Chronic”) but It certainly is a very fun and enjoyable album. Looking forward for more from Cube, especially NWA. Rating: Very Good (Light ☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Wicked, Now I Gotta Wet ‘Cha, The Predator,

The best word I can think of that I would use to describe this album is "dreamy", this is a very calm and atmospheric album, the synths, and the guitar all work together in a majestic way, the lead singers vocals were faint and blended into the instrumentation in a way which sounded absolutely amazing. I can hear the inspiration it had on some of my favorite albums ever and I love it. Rating: Fantastic (Decent ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Iceblink Luck, Heaven or Las Vegas, I Wear Your Ring, and Wolf In The Breast.

All I have to say it this was a different album, very unique, very experimental, it worked sometimes but I don’t think it was very engaging, it wasn’t “unlistenable” per say. But it wasn’t easy to listen to, there is some cool stuff on here but it was mostly a dud to me sadly. Rating: Bad (Strong ☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Ride On And Turn The People On, Your Love Gets Sweeter, and Supreme I Preme.

Classic. Eminem was on his good shit for this album, I can see the argument that the lyrics aged badly but I just see them as a product of the time so I don’t care so much about that, Dre production hits as hard as ever, and the storytelling tracks were dark but fun to listen to. this album perfectly shows what was to come for Eminem while being great in its own right. Rating: Really Great (Strong ☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Guilty Conscience, My Name Is, Role Model, Brain Damage, My Fault (look up the clean version, it’s funny), As The World Turns, Still Don’t Give A Fuck.

I’m starting to think 90s is my favorite decade of rock music, I haven’t heard a single bad album from this year and the experimentation is awesome, keep in mind I haven’t even gotten to nirvana yet so I can imagine it only gets better. Anyways, yeah this album is great, it’s got everything I want, cohesion, great instrumentation, fun vocals, and a sick ass cover. There was a run of four songs (8-11) that didn’t really do too much for me but they sound great with context of the album so I’ll give that some leniency. Everything else was absolutely fantastic. Ratings: Really Great (Strong ☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Velouria, Is She Weird, Ana, All Over The World, Stormy Weather, and Havalina.

Who doesn’t like Dolly Parton? She makes great music, she’s entertaining, and she is just a good person in general. This is a good album, the tracks feel like they fit together snugly, lyrically it’s really good, i read Dolly wrote most if not all of this on her own and I must say she is skilled with the pen, she is a talented musician. I can feel the inspiration this album has on country stuff even now, sadly a good chunk of the stuff you hear learned the wrong lessons, modern country really pales in comparison to the old stuff. Hope there is more of her on this list based on her impact it wouldn’t suprise me if there is, and I’ll look forward to it. Rating: Good (Strong ☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Coat Of Many Colors, Traveling Man, and A Better Place To Live.

Well this is a weird one, the singing is odd, especially in the first few tracks. It's got a cartoony style to it which is reflected in the cover, and music. But I'm not really sure how I feel about it, there were a few good tracks but most of it was just "okay". I may change my rating in the future since I want to give it another listen, but for now I think this is just middle of the road, not good, not bad. Rating: Mid (Decent ☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Givin' Up, Stuck In A Rut, Love On The Rocks With No Ice, and Holding My Own.

Can't say no to some experimentation, this album excelled at that. From the minute it started I could hear the impact this record has on the way production is handled today. The clever sampling throughout the album was fantastic, and the electronic instrumentation was fun to listen to. While I'm sure a lot of people struggle to get into this because of the lack of lyrics, I think there is some great stuff on here despite that, and I'm someone who prefers lyrical stuff over instrumental tracks. Rating: Really Great (Strong ☆☆☆☆) Favorite Track: Cool In The Pool.

Awesome album from start to finish, every single track has something going for it, and Deborah Harry has a great voice, she did an awesome job going for a soft tone in "11:59" to and more aggressive delivery like in "One Way Or Another". This is just a fun album in general and I really appreciate it, it has a lot going for it and I can see why it is so loved, consider me a fan. Awesome album cover by the way. Rating: Fantastico (Decent ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: 11:59, I Know But I Dont Know, One Way Or Another, Fade Away and Radiate, and Will Anything Happen.

Heh. The Kinks. So, this is a concept album, and plot is about a man named Arthur Morgan (rip) who moved across the world to the place a track is named after post-World War ii for better opportunities with his family, simple plot, but good nevertheless. Overall, I like it, everything comes together well, lyrics are simple but get the story across well, instrumentation is simple but grand when it need to be, very nice! Rating: Good ( Strong ☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Shangri-Li, Brainwashed, Arthur, and Drivin’

Nothing here really stood out for me, did like the transitions though! Rating Bad (Strong ☆☆) Favorite Tracks: No Standouts.

Always wanted to hear a Prince album, I’m glad I got this one early on I’ve had it rotting in my library on Apple Music for a while now. This right here is something to remember, it has absolutely zero skips, it’s banger after banger, the synths, guitar, and vocals, everything just comes together so, so nicely. I wouldn’t call this a concept album but there is a cohesiveness here between the tracks that could make out to be a narrative which is really nice it makes it feel like an album and not a playlist, I like that a lot. I was so immersed in this album, the Dolby Atmos mix I have on Apple Music is one of the best mixes I’ve heard in a long time and it only made the album so much better. I need to make a section just for Purple Rain, oh my god it’s so amazing, it may go on for 8 minutes but that doesn’t even feel long enough, it is such a beautiful track. Everything comes together perfectly, the introspection, the vocals drowning in the synths and the long guitar solo at the end, I love every second of it, genuinely might be one of the best tracks I think I’ve ever heard. I could go on and on. Amazing album. Rating: Masterpiece (Strong ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Lets Go Crazy, When Doves Cry, Computer Blues, Would Die 4 You, and obviously PURPLE RAIN. Unique but very “60s” at the same time. I liked the instrumentation with the flute I heard I few times and everything else going on, it sounded cool and unique. I’m not sure if I would have put this on this list though because it’s doesn’t have anything super special going on apart from the wide variety of instruments. Overall good album but nothing super special. Rating: Good (Strong ☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Orange Skies, !Que Vida!, and Revelation (interesting track)

Very cool album, the plot is simple, and very clear and concise, but definitely fun to listen to I enjoyed it. (PS: For anyone else who didn’t know this like I didn’t, only the first and possibly the last track are connected to the plot, the middle half is its own thing) Overall as an album it was pretty good, I wish it was more cohesive though, the fact that it goes from a big plot to tracks which aren’t super interconnected caught me off guard, I would have given this 5 stars if it wasn’t for that. Everything else was great the vocalist was dope and the rest of the band did their thing well. Rating: Great (Decent ☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: 2112, Tears, and Something For Nothing.

Damn this was really good. This is a concept album through and through, I really appreciate the ambition throughout this album, it tells the story effectively and makes use of the 24 tracks very nicely, I will be returning to this one in the future later on for sure. To summarize the plot without spoiling much, this is about a boy named Tommy who goes deaf, dumb, and blind from some trauma early in his life, but he finds some fame later in live after becoming a champion in a game as well as a spiritual leader. I know it sounds a little bizarre towards the end, but trust me it works nicely, highly recommend this one. Rating: Incredible (Decent ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Not really one where I would pick out individual songs.

Not bad, instrumentals are all great, the vocals are… unique, which is both a good and bad thing in my opinion. This, to me, sounds like an album a few friends made in their garage, the writing is very solid but the way the vocals and everything else clash sounds very homemade which I both like and don’t like, but I lean towards like. Rating: Pretty Good (Light ☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Trigger Cut, Here, and Our Singer.

Absolutely no idea how I feel, since, like I said last time I got an album like this, I don’t exactly speak the language, so I can’t appreciate it, so I’m just going to give it an average score because giving it a one Star just because I don’t speak the language is petty. Rating: Average (Decent ☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: N/A Can’t help much mention it, but this guy is a POS, I try not to let that kinda stuff effect my ratings so I view stuff from an objective pov, but that shit is fucked.

Fun album, but maybe a little generic, I heard some inspiration taken from The Smiths and The Clash which I enjoyed, wasn’t as good as their stuff, but their were some nice tracks on here for sure. Rating: Good (Strong ☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: My Drug Buddy, Bit Part, Kitchen, and Mrs. Robinson.

Oh come on this isn’t getting anything lower than 5, a review isn’t even necessary. Masterpiece (Strong ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: The Great Curve, Listening Wind, Once In A Lifetime, Houses In Motion, The Overload, and everything else! Fine! I’ll give you a review. What’s to be said that hasn’t been said before? This is a genre-blending, experimentive, and cohesive work of art, the lyrics, production, and everything put into this all come together in some of the most perfect ways I have ever listened to. Absolute masterpiece!

Storytelling, always love to see it. Every song on this album tells its own individual story, so it’s not a concept album per say. I appreciate the lyrics and everything here, all of it worked really nicely, If I had to critique, the only thing I would say is I actually wish this was longer, which is something I don’t say often, but maybe it’s a good thing it isn’t longer, because this is another no skip album for me. Rating: Super Great (Light ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Backstreets, She’s The One, Meeting Across The River, and Jungleland. Didn’t expect to get two 5s in a row again, not gonna complain though.

Rating: Incredible (Decent ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: The Words That Maketh Murder, In The Dark Places, The Color Of The Earth, and All & Everyone. I can’t believe I got 3 5’s in a row, this gonna be a dope ass week if it keeps going.

Don’t really have too much to say about this one, I support the premise, and it was an easy listen, but it didn’t have a whole lot of substance to me personally. Rating: Mid (Decent ☆☆☆) Favorite Track: Till Your Well Runs Dry

Really enjoyed this one, it was very atmospheric, and there is a lot of introspection and emotional depth here. I would call this borderline cinematic at times with an edge of mystique which I will never say no to. Heard a lot of familiar sounds which clearly influenced modern artists I enjoy, good stuff! Rating: Really Great (Strong ☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: The Fog, Heads We’re Dancing, Love and Anger, Reaching Out.

I genuinely loved this one, it was very well written and amazingly produced. The albums cohesiveness and concepts all produced a beautiful grandiose piece of art, which I will definitely have in my rotation for the rest of my life. I’ll be checking out the rest of the albums from these guys because they clearly have some talent. Rating: Masterpiece (Strong ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: All of them tbh.

When reading reviews to get some inspiration for what to write here, I found out that this album consists of covers, which I then found out was a common thing to do around this time, this is one of the more impressive examples though. Aretha is obviously a name I’ve heard before, who hasn’t heard of her? She changed the soul genre for the better, without her I wouldn’t have one of my goats Lauryn Hill so I have to give her credit there. This album is full of powerful vocals and she does her own spin on all these different songs she chose to cover very nicely on smooth jazzy beats which never sound dull or boring, I can see why this album spiraled her into stardom. Rating: Great (Decent ☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: A Change Is Gonna Come, Do Right Man, Do Right Woman, and Respect. Also, here’s a tip, if you use Apple Music like me and add this through her discography, be aware that for some reason the page links to the mono version, don’t accidentally listen to that instead of the main like I did.

By the end I was definitely convinced they were a robot. This was a great album without these guys I can tell Daft Punk might not exist which would be a terrible world. Sonically, the album was never boring and I enjoyed the early use of synthesizers, clearly everyone else did to since they are pretty common place nowadays. The production was sweet, the songs were entertaining, that’s pretty much all I could ask for. Favorite Tracks: The Model, Im A Robot, and Neon Lights. Rating: Really Great (Light ☆☆☆☆☆)

That’s an… interesting first track, I liked the album it was good if not a little tried and true sonically. Obviously we have the classic dancing queen which we all know, that’s a crazy big song right there, to me that wasn’t even close to the best song here which I respect since it’s always disappointing to listen to an album and have the only song you know already be the best, but yeah, It was a fun listen all the way through and I can see why this album made the list. Rating: Good (Strong ☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Fernando, Money Money Money, and Knowing Me Knowing You.

Can’t say i was familiar with Buzzcocks but after doing some research I definitely should have been, these guys are influential as hell to punk, which is a genre that influenced a lot of music I like today. While I do deeply appreciate what they inspired I’m here to talk about the album, which is surprisingly enjoyable despite the “scratchy” vocals and kind of basic lyrics. It has a raw and unique sort of sound which works in its favor very nicely as a whole. Also, I just wanted to throw this in, the guitarist was fantastic I really liked what they provided to this. Rating: Pretty Good (Light ☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Fiction Romance, No Reply, and Moving Away From The Pulseboat.

Very good album, it sounds very underground and grimy, very raw sounding vocals and production which I think is a great thing for a hip-hop album like this The storytelling cuts such as “C.R.E.A.M” and “Tearz” were my favorites because I appreciate storytelling in rap a lot, but tracks like “Method Man” where the members show off their rapping were excellent as well. They manage to fuse all of their unique personal styles together into something amazing. Also the impact this had on hiphop can’t be ignored, without it I wouldn’t have some of my favorite rappers like Nas and Lupe Fiasco which deserves all the credit in the world. Not as good as Neon Bible (the only other I heard) but still a cool project. The thing that brings it down for me is I didn’t like the sound that this one has as much as I liked NB’s. My isssues with this one are that the tracklisting was a little bit over the place and sometimes I could barely understand what was being said (though that might be my AirPods) which is problematic when you are listening to a concept album, which this is. and the first half of the album was a little choppy. But the saving factor was that the 2nd half was really awesome. Despite those complaints, to me this is a good album. Just a little bit flawed sadly. This album is like a damn good movie, the plot has layers and a good concept, it’s executed very well. The lyrics here were very impressive, that lead singer’s vocabulary is very diverse and it impressed me. The production is excellent as well, the guitarist was just as talented in the way he made it work with the vocals. This is definitely an album that needs multiple listens, there is a whole lot to unpack here. Rating: Extremely Good (Strong ☆☆☆☆) Favorite Track: Televators, Roulette Dares, and Inertiatic ESP.

This is not as grand as some of the other albums I’ve given the score I will give this one, but I think it deserves it just as much as they do. I enjoyed every song they genuinely put me in a good mood and the length was perfect for what I was doing while listening. Maybe I’m just feeling generous today but I’m genuinely liking this one a lot. It’s not the most lyrically dense work I’ve ever heard, but I don’t think it’s trying to be that, I view it as music you chill out and smoke a blunt to which there is nothing wrong with. Spectacular album! I’ve heard this one before but I didn’t really appreciate as much the first time around, this time though I really thought it was fantastic. There is a lot of things here anyone can interpret in their own way but I interpret this album as someone’s worst dreams coming true, if you listen to the lyrics with that concept in your head it makes a lot of sense, trust me. The album has a dreamy sort of sound to it and it puts you in a specific mood that only a few albums can do right. I have zero problems with this album so I won’t be saying anything negative, that’s all. Rating: Masterpiece (Strong ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks:The Nation Anthem, How To Disappear Completely, Idioteque, Morning Bell, and Motion Picture Soundtrack.

I expected to not like this but it’s not as bad as would have thought based on the reviews here. The songs have a gritty feeling to them, maybe it’s mainly Rod Stewart’s voice that gives it that feeling to me but to me it works well for this album. He also covers the songs he picked here pretty well for the most part, and his original tracks are pretty decent too. I found a few songs boring here and there but nothing was bad. Overall a solid project, but not anything amazing. Rating: Good (Strong ☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Country Comfort, Lady Day, and Jo’s Lament.

Wish I liked this one more than I do, I appreciate the direction this pushed hip-hop because as a big fan of the genre it would be way worse of without the influence these guys gave the genre. I thought the album was a bit too long and bloated, as well as the production feeling dated. The subject matter of the songs were great and I support them but the songs themselves didn’t stand out much to me unfortunately apart from a few tracks. Unique sounding album, but it wasn’t very interesting to me. I got bored of it about a third through it and it did not pick up for me. I’ve heard prog rock before and this was one of the most boring albums in that genre I’ve heard. So unfortunately I can’t find myself ranking it highly. Spectacular, this music sounded very cinematic and punchy which is something I enjoy a lot, the songwriting and album concept were very solid too. My only complaint is I got a little bored in the middle but it picked right back up at the end. Rating: Really Great (Strong ☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Take A Bow, Starlight, Knights Of Cydonia, and Hoodoo.

I really, really liked this one. It’s introspective, melancholic, and atmospheric in a cinematic way which is absolutely brilliant. Every track stands on its own and brings somebody awesome to the table. There is absolutely nothing I would change about this album. Rating: Masterpiece (Strong ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Don’t Panic, We Never Change, Shivers, Sparks, Yellow, and Parachutes (brilliant interlude).

Good album, I thought the themes were very true. They still hold up today, in fact maybe even more so then they did back then. The beats were unique and creative but still recognizable as hip-hop from the 90s which is a good thing because that era has a great vibe. Overall I liked it but sadly some of the songs were delisted on my streaming service so I couldn’t listen to the full thing but I only imagine the album would have been better with them. What do you know, another great album! I enjoyed listening to this one I can tell Hendrix had a lot of talent, it’s a shame his career ended so early. I almost gave this one a 5 but I know he will have more albums here and I want to save that spot for another one. One last thing before I rate, look into the reasoning behind the album cover, it’s kinda funny. I thought this was gonna be crab rave at first because of the cover lol. Extremely fun album though and surprisingly diverse. Prodigy managed to cover electronic, dance, hip-hop, and rock in one album which genuinely was a nice suprise! The music even without lyrics had a lot of personality and just genuinely was fun to listen to all around. This album definitely deserves its spot the on the list. This album hit, I motherfucking love Lauryn Hill because of Miseducation and I had been meaning to listen to this one for a while so I am glad i got this! Absolutely banger album Lauryn went off and so did Pras and Wyclef, there are actually zero skips here and i love how smoothly the transitions between tracks are as well as how cleanly they can go from singing to rapping. I gotta mention the production too, it’s got that raw 90s sound with its own unique flair which I genuinely love, also the samples are all fantastic. Rating: Fantastic: (Decent ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Ready Or Not, Killing Me Softly With His Song, No Women, No Cry, Fu-Gee-La, and The Beast.

I have heard this album before so this isn’t my first time listening, but I got to say this time around was a lot better for me. The first time I thought it was boring which it seems like a lot of people here agree with, but after this time with the slowness of the tracks in mind I enjoyed it a lot more. The album is very consistent in sound, which gives it a nice and coherent tone throughout which of course makes it feel like an album. I still have a few parts I overall think are a little too much of a slog to listen to but I like this way more than I used to. Rating: Superb (Decent ☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Shit, Damn, Motherfucker, Me and Those Dreamin’ Eyes Of Mine, Smooth, and Lady.

I lot a good sounds here, some parts were a tad boring but they changed up the songs constantly so anyone listening could be kept entertained. Definitely a talented band and of course we all know Alright, great song and enhanced this album with its existence. I thought it was alright, i didn’t stand out to me much. I liked the instrumentation but I can’t really see any real reason why I would made a list like this. It just wasn’t anything super special. Rating Mid (Decent ☆☆☆)

Solid punk-rock album, I liked the voice that came in occasionally that was entertaining. The lyrics were pretty solid especially on the more popular tracks, and the instrumentation had a nice flair to it which kept the album interesting. If I had to critique this I would say it’s a pretty traditional sounding punk-rock album, so it doesn’t really offer anything special sound-wise. Fantastic pop record encapsulates the sound I know from its time period perfectly in one tight 8 track album with absolutely zero skips. Lot of hits on here as well to the point where like a good portion of the album is just iconic after iconic song which you do not see often so it’s pretty impressive. I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about this one but I leave it feeling more than happy, and hell even impressed. Two final notes: The transition on the 7th to 8th tracks was very nice I appreciate a good transition and also Shout is a masterpiece of a song. Not a big jazz person but this was pretty good!

Been looking forward to more Nick Drake, I really enjoyed Pink Moon and I enjoyed this one as well. Pink Moon is still my absolute favorite but this one is certainly not far behind at all. I enjoyed the raw sound as I expected, but I also liked how he used multiple instruments throughout the album, some songs were dedicated to a specific instrument as well to show off his talent and versatility as much as possible which I liked a lot. Another all time positive I want to talk about is his song writing, on the tracks which tell a story he told them in a very vivid manner so the listener can see exactly what he is talking about while leaving some room for interpretation as well, very good stuff. One negative though that I want to mention is the record I felt could have been a little shorter, I liked how concise his other work is with it being around 30 minutes exactly, 40 minutes isn’t super long but I feel his sound works better in shorter bursts. But despite that I still really enjoyed this. Rating: Fantastic (Decent ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: Three Hours (Best), River Man, Man In A Shed, Fruit Tree, and ‘Cello Song.

Good stuff, reminded me a little bit of an artist I got a little while back on here, that artist would be the buzzcocks. The sound is similar though I will say I enjoy buzzcocks more, this album is still perfectly enjoyable. The songs are easy to follow and have that energy and carefree style you recognize from any other punk album like this, this is to me a good thing because you can just put this album on and chill out to it. The guitar work is pretty run of the mill in my opinion, nothing super special but fine nonetheless. In my opinion this album doesn’t offer much you wouldn’t get from any other album like this but that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth a listen because it’s still a fun album. Very happy to see this pop up, strangeways was one of the first albums I got on here and I absolutely loved that so I am very, very happy to get another smiths album finally. Heard good things about this one so this should be a great listen. Okay so I listened to it, I enjoyed it! I’m actually not sure if I enjoy this or strangeways more so let’s go into the specifics. The songs sound very much like every others smiths or morrissey track I’ve heard and since I enjoy them I enjoyed this obviously, the tracks have the nice wittiness, sarcastic lyrics we all know, as well as some excellent instrumentation. I like the shorter run time of this album, kept it interesting though I will say the album felt much longer than it actually was, not quite sure if that’s a good or bad thing. Overall, great stuff as I expected! Rating: Really Great (Light ☆☆☆☆☆) Favorite Tracks: There Is A Light That Never Goes Out (100% the best), I Know It’s Over, The Boy With A Thorn In His Side, Queen Is Dead, and Frankly, Mr Shankly.

I like the confidence of titling this “club classics” because this album certainly delivers on that. It’s all killer and no filler and plain and simply banger after banger. The rapping is excellent, the singing performances are excellent, and so are the lyrics in general, I like what they talk about especially on the track “feeling free”, real stuff. Also I have to mention the production is fantastic as well I can definitely picture this in a club setting. No problems with this album from me at all. Rating: Masterpiece Favorite Tracks: Fairplay and Feeling Free (2 Best), Keep On Moving, Back To Life, Feel Free, and Dance.

I’m going to start this review by saying I shouldn’t have to tell anyone this is a masterpiece, no one can deny that. So I’m just going to explain why I believe it to be true with this review. This is going to be a longer one than I normally do because there is a lot to say about this particular album, normally I just write a short summary but I don’t think that would do this one any justice. I had to take a break from this site for a while just to let this album sizzle with me so I know how to put it to words. I’ve watched the movie and everything so this will be a review of that as well because I believe if you listen the album you should watch the movie as well. So to start off this review, I want to say Pink Floyd is truly a talented band and I amend them for making a record detailing the darker sides of fame, not many artists or celebrities would be willing to tell the world all about the struggles of being well know so that is truly admirable and just one of the many great things about them. I also want to say I truly enjoy how every track transition into each other to add to the cohesiveness of the album it makes it feel like one big song which is fair because I don’t think you can listen to just one track without the others, they all go other and you can’t just have one on its own. The songwriting is epic and really gets the narrative across so excellently especially on the first half and helps makes this album one of the few I believe truly deserves the title of “rock-opera”. When listening they really strike a coord and you feel for Pink, the protagonist, so you feel completely immersed and invested in his story and everything he goes through to end up where he is at the end of the album. Now to talk about the movie, I really enjoy the visuals and especially the animated parts, it was a delight to see the court scene at the end come to life and it helps communicate what’s going on with those visuals over just hearing what you hear with the music. Also, the part that goes with another brick in the wall pt. 2 is very powerful and I like how it ends with a flash of reality right after he thinks about what he wishes he could do, as someone who went to school (duh) that scene was an absolute standout. If you are going to listen to the album I can’t recommend watching the movie afterwards enough it is a essential companion piece to the music and the actors for Pink both did such a great job that I don’t think it’s fair to not watch their performances. So why do I think it’s a masterpiece? I think it’s a masterpiece because it’s the very embodiment of what a concept album should be, cohesive, narratively strong, and just damn fun to listen to. The way it represents depression and isolation is just so incredibly well done and it’s so satisfying to Pink go from where he was to where he ended, just very powerful stuff. I envy anyone who gets to listen to it for the first time, because their are few albums better than The Wall.
