Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Jan 28 2025

details a love affair that turns worse - I think I only knew the first song, 'Wouldn't it be nice?' in advance. I relate to 'You still believe in me' a lot, it's simple but hits hard and is very dreamy as well. The Beach Boys seem to have a theme were the music gets larger as the song advances and more instruments get introduced + we get really long outros. I would love to put on 'Put your head on my shoulder' during a trip, completely melt with another in the song. Love the bells in 'Let's get away for a while'. Oh I know 'God only knows' as well ofcourse, I did not realise how often their music really gets used in soundtracks. Also love the last song, 'Caroline, no'. Kind of want to hear the whole album again while on shrooms

Purple Rain by Prince
Jan 29 2025

Loved 'When doves cry' and 'Darling Nicky'. Sometimes the sound was a bit too 80's for me, too screamy and with too many sounds at once, but I get why it's big. Maybe this typical 80's sound is not my thing per se

Jan 30 2025

Okayyy I like this one - really want to listen to it again while tripping. There's so much happening and it changes up so fast. I think my favourite on second listen is 'Epitaph'

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Jan 31 2025

Not my thing really- too masculine, too many sailing and hunting metaphors, too many harmonicas. Wouldn't turn it off if it came on, won't turn it on again

Feb 01 2025

Very fun! Should listen to the lyrics a bit better probably, but it reminds me of my boyfriend cause it's one of his favorites. Makes me want to be an English teenager

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Feb 02 2025

Pleasant as background music, nothing annoying or bad about it, but it doesn't completely resonate with me.

Feb 03 2025

Such a great album full of bangers- I love the storytelling. Listened to this on a sunny train from Paris to Brussels and it gave me so much joy. It got slightly repetitive towards the end, so 4 stars

xx by The xx
Feb 04 2025

Takes me right back to when I was 15 - I remember everyone being obsessed with this, which was maybe one of the reasons I don't think I ever listened to the whole album because it was 'too mainstream'. The latter half of this album trailed off a bit, but the vibe is still so special and feels so unique even more than 10 years later

Tusk by Fleetwood Mac
Feb 05 2025
Alien Lanes by Guided By Voices
Feb 06 2025

Do I think this is better than most albums on this list? No. Does it pale compared to more polished albums? Probably. But I like it, because I've always had a love for unpolished, demo-sounding albums. I like the Mountain Goats, of Montreal, Car Seat Headrest, and this feels like the same tradition. Not objectively up there, but subjectively it is

Sign 'O' The Times by Prince
Feb 08 2025

Fun to listen to, some creepy lyrics though, less hits than Purple rain which I got a while ago

Ill Communication by Beastie Boys
Feb 18 2025

Beastie Boys is like a strong spice for me - I can handle it in small doses, but it gets too much for me very quickly. This time I just couldn't how annoying I found the screaminess of their voices, even though I really appreciated the musicality of the songs. In spite of this being a hip hop album, I found myself liking the punk and instrumental songs better. Crazy amount of genres here.

Safe As Milk by Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band
Feb 19 2025
Woodface by Crowded House
Feb 21 2025

Someone on here said that it sounds like Gilmore Girls music and I have to agree with that. I knew one song of the album, which was more than I thought, and I enjoyed myself enough listening to it, but I don't think it's one of the 1001 best albums ever
