Off The Wall
Michael Jackson
Don't stop til you get enough is a VERY LONG opening track like good dont get me wrong but like.. please stop I've got enough. I don't want to listen to another half an hour of michael jackson now.
Luckily it goes straight into rock with you which is undeniable.
Get on the floor and Off the Wall are both absolute bangers i can't lie. She's out of my life unbearable I hate michael jackson's ballads his voice grates the shit out of me on them sorrrrryyyyyyyyy.
Last few songs are probably done a disservice by being toward the end. Burn this disco out is good I was just a bit bored of the motown/disco beats by the end. A me problem I'm not a big discohead. Even not knowing much about the MJ chronology you can tell this is like a big transitional album that was probably groundbreaking at the time and influential in a way that makes it feel kinda generic in places now. Shame that she's out of my life fucking sucks

The Clash
The Clash
Ooh the clash are a band I've always been happy to just listen to the greatest hits of so let's see what this bad boy has under the hood aye.
These songs are all so short and idk how I feel about that. Like it's not a bad thing but for example Whats my name could have just repeated itself for another two minutes and I'd have been entertained. I'm not saying they all sound the same bc they don't actually but it would maybe feel more varied if there were fewer longer songs but that's not very punk. I don't mind them sounding similar at the end of the day but it does kind of back up my being happy with just the greatest hits. I love joe strummers voice tho. Chelp away boyo.
You know what this is getting better + more varied in the back half. The bass on police & thieves sounds very fun. Also it's 6 minutes long so that's shut me up aye.
Yeah okay maybe I was wrong on the greatest hits point there's some good tracks on here. I'll have to listen again to see if the front half/back half split is as dramatic as it felt. This sounds overly critical i like the clash a lot at least on the surface level, i enjoyed this glad I listened

I Should Coco
Supergrass
Loading up i should coco straight after listening to lottery winners koko for the first time haha. It's gonna have to work hard to complete ngl I know one supergrass song and am ambivalent towards it.
BAM horrible histories theme . I know two supergrass songs.
I like all of these more than Alright so far.. I'm not going nuts over any of them but this is currently sounding like an album that hits on like the 6th listen
Ah there it is. Sticking out like a sore thumb. It is a perfect version of what it is tbf.
There's something old-schooly grungy going on here that is distinguishing them a bit from the most base britpop.. however i can draw a straight line from this to some of the worst 00s blokey pop but like in the same way that shrek caused the emoji movie. Not shrek. Parklife is shrek. This is like. Madagascar. You can tell im mostly just bored bc what the fuck am I talking about. Actually I'm drawing a line to the fratellis a bit and well. Shrek also caused the lego movie. I like Madagascar BTW.
Oh its definitely gonna hit on the 6th listen i just got to Sitting Up Straight and sat up straight. That's more the fuck like it.
Start of we're not supposed to is giving me misophonia summet rotten. The whole thing is. Is someone fucking chewing in the background. That's a shame bc its the weirdest song so far but I want to gip.
I'm gonna struggle to rate this before I've listened another 5 times I feel like I could really come to like it. V. Varied, a little heavier than my favourite britpop*, reminds me of moodier blur in places. Mostly on the bass which is a compliment bc cheese wanker is fucking good.
*my favourite and least favourite music is all britpop. It's not a genre so much as one specific edition of the brit awards (you know.)
What the fuck is this beatles ending lmao. Fair fucks I like this album. I'm gonna go for that 6th listen eventually bc it's gonna hit.

Neil Young
I think this is the first one I know nothing of beyond Neil Young's name. Ten songs is a blessed relief after what happened to me yesterday. Also disclaimer I'm listening on my phone speaker bc my headphones aren't working
I do love a harmonica.
Oh this is nice. I wanna drive round in the sunshine to this.
There's a World is a bit much i didn't care for that one.
I don't have a lot to say lol it's decent but not really my bag overall. Like straight down the line nothing I really disliked nothing that stood out particularly. Just kinda nice idk. Preferred the first half. Maybe 'in bed ill at 7 on a sunday' is just the wrong context to appreciate it idk. I'm letting it repeat tho so what does that say. I do not know how to rate this. 3 it is.

Common
I'll be honest it straight up didn't occur to me that there might be hip hop on this list I've had all old mostly white men so far. I only know common from that one song he did with Joss Stone lol.
This is good midday listening so far, GO! is familiar actually.
Oh i was having a great time and then Kanye rocked up saying Dave Chapelle's name. Ffuckin jumpscare. Ahhhhhh it's fuckin good tho.
Look i don't know enough about rap to analyse this too deep but I really fuckin like it. It's your world is so good man.
I'm not gonna let it repeat but I might come back and listen again in a bit. I need to remember that I like hip hop more often.

15 minutes! I might just listen to it on my way home
My phone died so I couldn't listened to it on the way home and I think I might have been better off driving to it...
This is musically really boring lol if you're making a 15 minute punk album you shouldn't be able to actually play your instruments. Like individually some of the songs are decent but like i don't wanna have to sit and read the lyrics to enjoy your shit. Also reading red tape are these guys tory punk. Blah.

Loving a lot of these songs. Some are passing me by a bit but mostly a sunny good time.
Tbh an early springsteen came on shuffle straight after this and I was like 'ah now this one sounds interesting' then realised what had happened so like. I appreciate it but ultimately too heterosexual #teambruce
Remember the first couple of days of this project when I was talking about basslines and influences and shit
Left the song radio on afterwards and I'm gonna say I prefer his later work when it comes up probably

The last US punk i got generated was dreich so let's see how this goes.
See now there's something to this. Not sold on his voice I'm probably gonna tire of it by the end of a full album but I like this sort of darker americanah guitar. That doesn't mean anything but I know what I'm trying to say.
Punk is a strong word for this. Like i don't dislike it but it's not noisy. Shout please.
..hm nah i kinda get it it's subverting something or reinventing something or whatever. Like I'm not necessarily having the greatest time with this but i appreciate what it's doing.
O shit a heavy guitar shouting song!
Nah this is really growing on me it's a real Jarvis Cocker's Carrier Bag Of Influences. I do have to go to work though so I'm breaking off after The Whistling Song and will be back later
Honestly this feels like a group of guys in their bedroom doing whatever the hell in whatever order and I think that's cool and artistically bold. They repeated a song???? Respect. Also a lot of instrumental so I'm not tired of his voice but it's grown on me a bit anyway.
Hard to rate... probably a 3.5 tbh but I'll round up. See i would have Never listened to this without this website and that would have been a shame!!

Ooooooh this is so sweet and rich feel like my ears are buried in a big gooey cake. laid in a towel with my hair up and this is like the perfect music to be listening to.
Good Times Absolute Banger if a little conspicuous among the gooey soul.
This is flawless I'm actually emotional about how lovely it is. What a voice obviously but also the production is so so beautiful. Miss Aretha this was a long overdue meeting.

I'm not MAD about the amount of punk I'm listening to but this is getting silly.
So far I can see why Another Girl Another Planet is the song I know. Everything else sort of blending together. Good voice tho, def one of the instruments.
Becoming a pattern that I say all the songs sound the same and then immediately one stands out: I'm enjoying creature of doom. Language Problem also.
Enough standout tracks here to enjoy but mostly background noise.
Look ultimately I just don't think punk was really meant to come in albums. It was made for spitting at each other in shit clubs and for shuffling in your car while you crash into the palace of westminster. The LP format is just an unfortunate necessity.

Lot of going up and down the keyboard here mate mix it up a bit
Again only listening passively but this is alright? I like the shouting idk if it's him or the audience but someone's well into this slightly repetitive piano improv
That was nice enough ig but idk does too much piano start to hurt my ears? Maybe. The bits I liked were impressive enough improv to round up my 2.5

I'd better not like this bc they're playing in Leeds next month and I'm breaking the bank paying for gigs lately.

Oh its a bit screamy. Oh no its good. Not really my usual bag but it's not so grungy as to be offputting. Is this pre-grunge actually. Okay I'm back from Wikipedia yeah that's probably why youre preferring it to most grunge mate it isn't grunge. Stop saying grunge.
It is starting to fade into the background a bit ngl. Is it actually petering out or am I just losing interest idk.
Hm a well organised album I'll say that. Not 100% my bag but i enjoyed it more than I thought I would, will probably listen again but won't go see them in Leeds in may which is the best outcome from this experience actually

LADS. this is fucking astounding so far. I just stayed in the shower for half of it just to carry on listening. The weird clown track??? Imagine if I'd heard that in 2020.*
I'm struggling to actually say much bc I'm just having a good time. Remember on the Aretha album the other day when I was like Oh this is the best thing I could be listening to while relaxing in a towel. Well I'm in a towel with a lavender and chamomile face mask on but my right trapezoid is hurting like a rat cunt so this is the best thing I could be listening to rn.
Like just varied enough while still being a shouty noisy time. Ignore whatever I said about punk albums the other day this is really well put together and a really good time. Why hadnt I already heard this.

Oh No.
Look as this fuxkin cover oooooh devil scawy skeweton scawy pwease wisten to my scawy songs
Okay open mind open mind.
Wait this isn't even that heavy. I am on my phone speaker so the bass isn't boosted but still.
Musically this is good so far tbf. These lyrics however. Doing well when I'm searching if you're a parody band or not. Peewing the skin fwom his eyes raaaah . Grow up mate you're in the UK in 1982 and you're having to invent devils to be mad at? Are you a peer of the realm?
Ah here's one about a prostitute. At least that's real. Again musically I'm appreciating this a lot more than I thought I would like I'm not hating this time. Do I need to stop listening to the words. I can't though the title track is like Spinal Tap stupid. I know I sound like a narc but I can't get over how lame it is sorry.
I'm not saying every song has to be about something serious I love kooky shit I love david bowie singing about gay aliens. It's just the juxtaposition with the genuinely very good angry guitars and excellent voice as well actually. I would love to point that at something worthwhile.
I did manage to stop hearing the words in the last couple of songs so we ended on a high. Genuinely I'm glad I listened to this i do try to keep an open mind and I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the sound of it and like I appreciate that this is A Part Of Music History with a massive subculture. i just. You know.
This is like four stars for the music one for the lyrics. Three? Two? Im pissed off enough to round down but that feels biased. I'll listen to a couple of songs again on a proper speaker and see how I feel with the bass boosted.

Rumours
Fleetwood Mac
YES!
first one I've already listened to in full, indeed many times and i own it on vinyl. A wonderful excuse to whack it on thanks website
God Secondhand News is so GOOD. always surprised that it isn't one of the Big Ones when I hit play.
Trying to listen through Don't Stop... it's the one that sticks out to me, never been my favourite, but tbf listening to the rhythm section makes it fit better??
How does The Chain, already the greatest song ever written and that's science, still get better every time and then You Make Loving Fun doesn't feel like a comedown?? Best pairing of two songs on an album in musical history?? I also love how good the bass is on you make loving fun. Make him play that shit Christine.
I wish Oh Daddy wasn't called that. It's like the one flaw. That and that it ends. How am I on the last song already. Come back.
Like I've tried to listen with a fresh ear and not just blindly give it a 5 but if anything that made it better. I think this album was playing at the beginning of time. As the earth was forged Gold Dust Woman could be heard from the core. It's so Big and Urgent without being overwhelming.. like it's a calming album even with those big driving rhythms idk man it's fundamental. I love it so much. Thank you Fleetwood Mac for putting yourselves through all that.

Thinking my favourite elvises are on later albums or singles or we bc this is mostly bringing to mind that tumblr audio of him rolling down a bowling alley.. this is kinda bland. Yeah I'm reading the background this is a compilation of covers the record company didn't think would sell? Understandable. Sorry Elvis I thought I'd enjoy this but it's kinda nothing. Listening again before I rate bc its short and i can. His voice sounds really immature here, like it could honestly be anyone singing a lot of these. Couple of decent tracks like obviously blue suede shoes goes and i liked trying to get to you and his version of blue moon but ultimately uninteresting as an album beyond its status as a museum piece :/

I fear I must once again use the sentence: Decent version of what it is but ultimately just not my bag.
P. much every track starts strong but then outstays its welcome that bit too long, its saved by some prominent funky bass tho. Bluesy in places, might have to find the tabs. And the brass is a fun touch tbf. Respect the brass.
Didn't actually hate the guitar rumbling track that everyone is banging on about in the reviews. Like idk fair enough.
Actually I'm enjoying bits of it enough that I should probably see if there's radio edits I feel like that could fix my issues. Like i loved the first half of I'm A Man it just has no need to be eight minutes long.
Like prologue and someday? Excellent. 4 minutes long. Good tracks. Why am I now listening to a fourteen minuter. No-one wants this. Actually the back 5 minutes rocks. That is a banger of an album closer I can't lie. Hm hard to rate . Ideally a 3.5 but I can't do that.

Okay first few songs were predictably inoffensive kinda steady for my taste but decent
No Body No Crime? Absolute banger. Fucks to hell.

Gorillaz
Feels like a while since I've had a band that I like but never did a deep dive on. Hello Damon Albarn's Cartoon Band.
Extremely Blur in the first couple of songs. This is their debut right? Is it pre big collabs. Love 5/4 that bangs.
Clint Eastwood obviously sticks out but it's hard to argue. And it doesn't sound like blur.
Man Research is like. If I didn't know gorillaz would I write this off as random background noise. I'd hope not bc it's good just like not my genre.
Punk is Very Blur and I love it.
Hm the ones ive said are very blur are Very Blur Self Titled specifically which is where On Your Own is so maybe Blur are Very Gorillaz actually.
Mentioning every song individually atp but Sound Check?? Ooooh that's nice. And see this is So Gorillaz. So it's not just the very blur ones that I'm liking. Love 19-2000.
Afraid I'm tempted to say Latin simone is a bit of a flop mostly bc it doesn't fit it with the rest particularly well. Otherwise a really good time, definitely transitional you could accuse some songs of being rejected blur but those were my favourites on the whole (i really like blur). Good and varied as an album, i think later work with more collaborators will be better but i really enjoyed this. Bias is at play. Tempted to just do a gorillaz deep dive now. The music I mean.. cba with the mental story.

Mostly inoffensive soft rock so far... weather with you stands out for a reason it's good i like it.
Four seasons in one day... feel like they could have gone bigger on the production and it might have been something special.. as is it feels like a lacklustre beatles track. Maybe that applies to a lot of this album actually. There's the odd standout I dont dislike it - there goes god is fun and fame is has a fountains of wayne vibe? -but idk as an album I'm not that interested. Not sure what it's trying to do. Why did they go nuts at the end where was that energy for the last 48 minutes

Seven Nation Army is such an opener. No idea where we're going from here like. Oh into an absolute banger is it. Strong start.
A cover! I don't mind a cover! Especially one that makes me question if ive ever really heard the original. Lads I'm enjoying this. Feels like an album. Meg's voice is kinda lovely too. Adding In The Cold Cold Night to my clown playlist (positive)
Bit of a lull round the middle but I think it needs that, drop the energy for a second yknow. And then build it back up with a long solo heavy track. Again it feels like an album.
There's so much variety here without it feeling like a mishmash. It's True That We Love One Another feels dead random but i reckon its a good shout . Like lets do a silly one... almost. This is a weird comparison. You know how self esteem congas offstage to lighten the mood. Almost like that, like a comedown from the high energy bangers. It's cute.
Would maybe have liked another meg vocal but I'm dead impressed ..tempted to 5 star it bc I'm probably gonna like this more and more.

! Glad to see this. Think this is one where I know/have heard most of the songs but I've never listened to them in order so that's interesting.
I Love Holiday so much but man are you ready for boulevard after the first three tracks. On the whole I think i prefer the steadier songs to the loud bangers they feel more varied. Like maybe i just dont know how to listen to guitar rock but the backing to a lot of the Big Shouters feels v similar. The streets will remember Give Me Novocaine.
Tbf the Big Shouters are well laid out. Letterbomb HITS. And then into wake me up? That's some placement. I always manage to forget how good wake me up is actually. Best song on the album probably.
Billie Joe's voice is so perfect for what he does. Or maybe what he does is perfect for his voice idk. Manages to sound like he's putting his all into it without constantly straining his voice. Perfect modern punk frontman honestly.
Maybe it's because I'm already familiar with a lot of the other tracks but homecoming is over 9 minutes long and not overstaying its welcome.
Not 100% sold on whatsername as the closer idk. Feels safe.
Objectively this feels like it should be a 5 but idk something is stopping me. Possibly just feels disjointed bc of my familiarity with individual songs..might listen again this aft and see if I can settle into it. Either way I'm burning a copy for my car.
4.5 but I'm rounding down bc i have to feel a 5 in my truest heart

The Kinks
Ooh I generally like kinks songs so let's see. Fear there could be some lame shit on the albums but I'm excited to learn.
No lame shit here!! I love their sound honestly. I don't know if as an album it's doing any more for me than just like having This Is The Kinks on shuffle but that didn't exist in 1966 so that's moot.
I'll say that I swapped equalisers a few songs in and realised I'd been screwing it over with the bass boost. There's too much twinkly keys going on to be drowning it out with the bottom end.
Party Line, Too Much on My Mind, House in the Country, Little Miss Queen of Darkness are my immediate standouts. Sunny Afternoon too obviously. What a song.
Didn't care for Fancy... i think I'm establishing through this project that i don't like psychedelica.
The elves and gnomes line on rainy day in June was more of a jumpscare than the thunder effect.
Nah fairs i listened twice. Couple of wobbles but I think that's more on the track order than the tracks themselves. Ray Davies has one of my favourite singing voices going. Sorry for being British.

This isn't fair but every hard rock song sounds the same to me idk. I like Southbound.
Hitting the Phil Lynott Respect button but this just isn't my thing. Few decent songs and a good sound but I can't listen to 1.25 hours of rock without getting bored sorry.
Wish i could give half stars bc this is a solid 2.5 for me. Enough fun bits to round up from iron maiden and that 90s rnb album but it's hard won. Mostly by the crowd work toward the end.
