You Are The Quarry by Morrissey

this sucks so bad it's got me defending America, which i ordinarily would not. "You're heads so big..." bruh, look in a fuckin mirror. It's amazing that The Smiths were so great in spite of this wanker. Despite being from 2004, this sounds like AI slop. Yes his lyrics can be clever at times, but nowhere near as clever as he thinks they are. And fuck me apparently he has 3 albums on the list...

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel

Oof we'll see about this. Good song writing and performances. Patterns was kind of a cool track. I like the sense of space in the production, but I wish everything wasn't panned so hard left or right. A Simple Desultory Philipic kinda kicks ass. Love the fuzztone bass. The final track was pretty haunting. Disturbing but also reassuring in the juxtaposition of finding beauty in difficult times. The social and political commentary is an interesting snapshot of the 60s, but at times it feels very relevant to today. Idk if I'll ever revisit this one, but I'm glad I gave it a chance

Searching For The Young Soul Rebels by Dexys Midnight Runners

This is entirely unremarkable. Why in the fuck does this band have 3 albums on the list. I figured "ok they had a big hit I guess that justifies the album's inclusion", but that song isn't even on this record.

Rid Of Me by PJ Harvey
Jul 24 2025

Interesting take on grunge sound. Def pixies and melvins influence. Great Albini production.

Smash by The Offspring
Jul 25 2025

First 5 songs are great. Lost my interest after that. Really don't like their hit singles i guess

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Jul 26 2025

Pretty excellent. Wish I hadn't been overexposed to all the big moments before hearing them in context

Pearl by Janis Joplin
Jul 28 2025
Tea for the Tillerman by Cat Stevens
Jul 29 2025

Not resonating with me. I can tell the songs are well crafted, and the performances are solid. Just not my type of music

Take Me Apart by Kelela
Jul 30 2025

love it. Onanon is a highlight. Maybe a little bloated but overall an enjoyable listen

Jul 31 2025

Surprised how much I enjoyed this. Cowboy Movie is cool, but kind of overstays it's welcome. Nice arrangements and harmonies throughout. Mellow, but engaging listen.

Haunted Dancehall by The Sabres Of Paradise
Aug 01 2025

This one's tough to rate. Theres moments of brilliance in there, especially the last few tracks. Also lots of tracks that drag Especially in the middle. Don't think I'll revisit the project as a whole but there are a few great tracks.

Aug 02 2025

Proto butt-rock. OK riffs. Inoffensive but dull. Reverse delay drum intro on the opener was neat. Mostly recycled blues riffs and vapid lyrics. I guess the dueling guitar Freebird solo is pretty cool

Meat Is Murder by The Smiths
Aug 03 2025

Excellent guitar and bass performances. Only thing I can knock it for is i find Morrissey's voice annoying at times.

...And Justice For All by Metallica
Aug 04 2025

Very good album held back by weird production choices. The drum tone is very dull. Usually want some pummeling drums in thrash metal and these are not hitting except for some of the double bass drum parts. Also wish you could hear the bass at all. And at 65 minutes, I feel like they could've tightened it up a bit. Still a very enjoyable listen

Imagine by John Lennon
Aug 05 2025

It's alright. Not really finding it especially interesting.

Tarkus by Emerson, Lake & Palmer
Aug 06 2025

Fun and engaging listen. Over the top and cheesy at times but packed full of wild organ riffs. Nice that after the 20 min title track, the rest are pretty short, so it doesn't really over stay its welcome. Not going to be in my rotation but I'm sure I'll revisit it at some point

Parsley, Sage, Rosemary And Thyme by Simon & Garfunkel
Aug 07 2025

Oof we'll see about this. Good song writing and performances. Patterns was kind of a cool track. I like the sense of space in the production, but I wish everything wasn't panned so hard left or right. A Simple Desultory Philipic kinda kicks ass. Love the fuzztone bass. The social and political commentary is an interesting snapshot of the 60s, but at times it feels very relevant to today. Idk if I'll ever revisit this one, but I'm glad I gave it a chance

Music for the Masses by Depeche Mode
Aug 08 2025

I was excited going into this one because I've been meaning to check this band out. Ended up finding it monotonous and uninteresting for the most part. A couple decent tracks in the first half but no sense of momentum after that. On paper, I should like this band but they don't do much for me outside of the singles.

What's Going On by Marvin Gaye
Aug 09 2025

This one's tough. Knew it by reputation. Don't think I've ever listened to it. Feels familiar because I think I've heard it sampled in a million rap songs. Great performances and message. Inner City Blues is a highlight. It's great but I don't know that I'll revisit it much

Shleep by Robert Wyatt
Aug 10 2025

I tried. Cool production. Songs don't grab me and the vocals are off putting at times

Movies by Holger Czukay
Aug 11 2025

Innovative and ahead of its time with the sampling. Borders on nonsense at times, but there's moments of brilliance in there for sure. I'm a fan of Can, so I'm glad to have heard this one, but I don't see myself coming back to it ever

Juju by Siouxsie And The Banshees
Aug 12 2025

I liked this a lot. Surprised I've never heard it before. I'll definitely be coming back to it.

Dusty In Memphis by Dusty Springfield
Aug 13 2025

WHY ARE THE DRUMS PANNED COMPLETELY TO THE RIGHT CHANNEL? Idk this is alright. Not very interesting but easy listening. Don't Forget About Me seems decent. Kinda just skimmed it. I wouldn't be annoyed with it playing in the background but it's not engaging enough to keep my attention. She does have a great voice though, so I guess that's enough for me to give it 2/5

The La's by The La's
Aug 14 2025

Yeah idk it's alright. I guess this was a little ahead of the britpop curve. Must've been influential or something to justify it's inclusion. Feelin' and Failures were pretty good. Obv There She Goes is a solid track. Other than that i didn't find much of it was interesting. On a side note, I saw these guys at the Rock En Seine fest in Paris in 2011 and their drummer didn't show up for some reason. They played as just a guitarist and bassist. The set was kind of a drag but props to them for carrying on with the show. Apparently that was one of their last live appearances

Aug 15 2025

Eh. Good songwriting, instrumentation, and arrangements. I found it kinda boring but I can't say that its a bad album. Also something about Michael Stipes voice rubs me the wrong way. I can see why people love it, but it didn't make me a fan

Parklife by Blur
Aug 17 2025

Pretty enjoyable. I'd only heard Song 2 before by them, which i had heard wasn't exactly representative of their sound, so I wasn't sure what to expect. Some fun weird guitar solos in there. Not sure if I'll ever revisit it intentionally, but i wouldn't mind hearing it again. Looking forward to whatever other albums of theirs will come up

The Cars by The Cars
Aug 19 2025

Idk like 2.5 I guess. I found the songs pretty unremarkable, but that might be mostly because they just make me think of Toyotathon ads at this point. Somewhat elevated by some pretty great synth leads on a lot of the tracks.

Chelsea Girl by Nico
Aug 20 2025

Lots of interesting ideas. Execution is spotty, and it does drag at times. Can't say i especially enjoy listening to it has a whole, but it has its moments. It is a fascinating and evocative artifact from one of the most important art scenes in history. I'm gonna rate it 5 to help offset all the 1 star reviews from people who refused to engage with it. I don't think it's great, but it's definitely worth hearing and diving into at least once

Metal Box by Public Image Ltd.
Aug 21 2025

I want to like this, but I'm not a fan. Couldn't get through the opener. Swan Lake and Socialist are cool. Theres some great sounds and interesting ideas on here, but most of the songs feel really half baked, like Joy Division fucking around in the studio after listening to a bunch of funk and reggae. Yeah idk all the tracks have a groove that's cool for like 30 seconds, but doesn't really develop from there and ends up outstaying it's welcome halfway through

Quiet Life by Japan
Aug 22 2025

Great synths and bass. Vocals are fine, but don't stand out especially. First couple tracks are decent but it kind of loses steam after that. The VU cover is great though.

Pretzel Logic by Steely Dan
Aug 23 2025

Yes the performances and production are immaculate, and the songs are well crafted. But holy fucking shit it's so god damn boring. I understand the praise this band gets, but it is not for me. I'll give it a 2 just because the production is genuinely perfect. Trying to view it objectively, I can't say that it's bad, I just strongly dislike it

OK by Talvin Singh
Aug 24 2025

First track had me worried. Glad it picked up from there. Haven't even finished it yet but it's getting a 4 just because Eclipse goes so hard

Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
Aug 26 2025

I mean come on. Of course it's great. Zep makes so much rock music that came after it sound redundant

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Aug 27 2025

I don't love it, but it's pretty undeniably great, even if it feels a little formulaic at times. Love the synth work. Never realized that Thriller, Beat It, and Billy Jean were back to back. PYT might be my favorite if it didn't kind of creep me out

Konnichiwa by Skepta
Aug 29 2025

Solid album. A few standout tracks that I'd revisit, and a few duds that would keep me from listening to it in full again. Don't understand how this made the list but Danny Brown's Atrocity Exhibition didn't

Surfer Rosa by Pixies
Aug 30 2025

Disturbing, demented, masterpiece. A little surprised to see all the negative reviews on this one. Did you all really start this list thinking it'd be a thousand easy listening albums that wouldn't be at all challenging? Even with the abrasive guitars and fucked up lyrics. The pop sensibilities shine through. Catchy as hell. Only criticism is it kinda fizzles out towards the end

Figure 8 by Elliott Smith
Aug 31 2025

Not my favorite Elliott Smith album, but a pleasant listen overall. Maybe could've been trimmed down a little. Not that there's any bad songs, but it does start to feel a little bloated by the end

The United States Of America by The United States Of America
Sep 01 2025

Cool production and instrumentation. Performances are all solid. Songwriting is a bit lacking, making it kind of a slog to get through. Garden of Earthly Delights is a highlight. I was relieved to see i was listen to the deluxe edition, and the album wasn't actually 20 tracks long

Sep 02 2025

Yeah it's very nice. Aretha's voice is phenomenal. Instrumental performances are all very good. Can't say I'll seek it out again but I wouldn't turn it off either

Sep 03 2025

Look, I don't like Queen. I knew this going in. The hits are well fashioned songs, album cuts are mostly forgettable. Giving it 2 stars because the song the drummer sings about wanting to fuck his car made me laugh. His vocal performance is better than y'all are giving him credit for

Porcupine by Echo And The Bunnymen
Sep 05 2025

This is fine. Title track was a drag, but Heads Will Roll was solid. The instrumentation is pretty cool. Kinda psychedelic, proto shoegaze at times with a bit of eastern flare. Unfortunately the songwriting just isn't doing much for me

C'est Chic by CHIC
Sep 06 2025

Pretty fun. First handful of songs are a blast. Kinda loses steam in the second half. I get why it's included, there's some all time bangers on this things, but I feel like listening in the album format isn't really the way to experience it

Beauty And The Beat by The Go-Go's
Sep 07 2025

This is good. I was expecting more synthy new wave, but this is almost proto pop punk. Theres melodies that remind me of Husker Du and Green Day, and Lust for Love kinda reminds me of a My Chemical Romance song that I can't place. Probably not gonna be in my rotation, but I'd listen to it again. Consistently enjoyable all the way through

Sep 08 2025

Adequate poppy alt rock. Gets an extra point for cool production. Great ZVEX fuzz tones on the bass and guitar, and cool synth arpeggios. Loses a point because Bellamy sounds like he's singing the transcript of an Infowars broadcast while doing a somewhat passable Thom Yorke impression. The rockers go decently hard, but the ballads really suck. I always assumed Muse fans were mostly people who stopped liking Radiohead when Kid A came out, and listening to this in full didn't really change that perception

The Yes Album by Yes
Oct 17 2025

Killer bass riffs and tone. Songwriting is fine but doesn't do much for me. Pleasant enough but not finding it very memorable

Oct 18 2025

Every one of these songs feels like a great emotional intro or bridge to a rock epic, but they never actually pick up from the slow plodding, and mostly just follow verse chorus verse. Bullet The Blue sky is a decent pastiche of Joy Division and the Bad Seeds/Gun Club. Hadn't heard that one before and I liked it pretty well. I went in wanting to hate on U2, but it's not terrible, just kinda boring. Had to come back and edit it because the second half of this thing is such a fucking slog to get through. Still not offensively bad, but it feels like a waste of time. Really dull after the first few tracks

Dirt by Alice In Chains
Oct 19 2025

Not bad, but I'd rather just listen to the Melvins. Waaaay too fuckin long. I was starting to get tired off it around the halfway point. Thought it was almost done and realized there's still 6 more tracks. I'm tapping out. Performances and songwriting ranges from decent to good, just not enough variation to keep it engaging

Searching For The Young Soul Rebels by Dexys Midnight Runners
Oct 20 2025

This is entirely unremarkable. Why in the fuck does this band have 3 albums on the list. I figured "ok they had a big hit I guess that justifies the album's inclusion", but that song isn't even on this record.

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Oct 21 2025

Solid acid blues rock. A few great tracks everyone's heard, and a couple unfamiliar ones that surprised me. I'd give it a 3, but there's some truly blistering fuzz tone guitar solos that kick it up a level for me

The Coral by The Coral
Oct 24 2025

Is it terrible? No. Is it interesting or remarkable in any way to justify its inclusion? Also no. There's some decent tracks, and some annoying ones. I like Nuggets too, but this isn't doing anything interesting with the sound. My guess is it was one of the critics' introduction to psych rock and they remember it fondly. Ditch this and add some tame impala

Pink Moon by Nick Drake
Oct 25 2025

Interesting guitar playing. Nice voice. Not really focused in on the lyrics, but they seem solid. Nice contemplative listen. Also, great album cover

Band On The Run by Paul McCartney and Wings
Oct 26 2025

First couple tracks were great. The stuff in the middle wasn't immediately as engaging, but not bad. The beat switches on Picasso's Last Words are pretty interesting, but I'm not wild about that track otherwise. The closer is good though. Overall, it's an enjoyable listen Kinda struck by how influential this must've been for modern indie rock and neo psychedelia. Definitely hear it in Mac Demarco's work and others

Who's Next by The Who
Oct 27 2025

Not my favorite Who record, but it's a solid album. Realistically I'd give it like 3.5, but it's definitely better than some of the shit I've been giving 3s to lately, so I'm bumping it up. The synth work is fun, if a little primitive sounding by today's standards.

Dire Straits by Dire Straits
Oct 28 2025

Adequate blues rock elevated by fantastic guitar work and solid production. Vocals are the weak point. Kind of getting a Motorik/krautrock vibe from the drums at points, which surprised me, but it gives the songs a sense of momentum. Kinda thought i would hate this, but I found it pleasant enough to sit through. Wouldn't necessarily seek it out again, but I wouldn't change the station if it came on

Birth Of The Cool by Miles Davis
Oct 29 2025

Pleasant enough. I can appreciate the musicianship. Not finding it especially engaging but it's nice to have on. I don't feel like jazz has clicked for me, but I don't hate it

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Oct 30 2025

This album fucks. I don't need to hear it again to know that, but it's a good excuse to have my mind blown again

Suicide by Suicide
Oct 31 2025

This thing takes huge swings. Not an easy listen, and I can't claim to find the entire album enjoyable, but it's easy to see why it's so influential. I do wonder if they were aware of Kraftwerk when they were developing their sound

Franz Ferdinand by Franz Ferdinand
Nov 01 2025

Fun pop rock. Some gang of four influence for sure. Not all that memorable outside of the hit single, but decent throughout. 3.5/5

Nov 02 2025

Yeah this is nice. Great sounding album. Big Iron and the Master's Call are standouts. No bad tracks, but I did find it to start getting a little tedious about halfway through. Definitely nails the cowboy vibe, but it's just not something I find appealing enough to want to sit through in its entirety

Emperor Tomato Ketchup by Stereolab
Nov 03 2025

I like everything I've heard from this band. Only thing I can knock them on is that it starts to all blend together at a certain point. Great execution of the sound. Easy listening but not boring. 4.5/5

Low by David Bowie
Nov 04 2025

I go back and forth between this and Station To Station as my favorite Bowie album. You can really hear how much he was influenced by krautrock, but took those sounds in a poppier direction. Great stuff

Blackstar by David Bowie
Nov 05 2025

It's impossible to review this album without considering its context. I can understand why people who aren't well versed in his music would be underwhelmed by it. Musically, it's far from my favorite Bowie record, but it is quite good. It's interesting to hear him draw from contemporary sounds. Love the callbacks to Station To Station in the title track, and Low in the closer. It's also intriguing that he came back to the occult themes that were present in his late 70s output. When you view it as a bookend to an incredible career, and a piece that is actively in conversation with his earlier work, it's hard to call it anything other than a masterpiece.

Immigrés by Youssou N'Dour
Nov 06 2025

Enjoyable enough but I'm not finding it that engaging. Could probably chop some cool horn samples from it

You Are The Quarry by Morrissey
Nov 07 2025

this sucks so bad it's got me defending America, which i ordinarily would not. "You're heads so big..." bruh, look in a fuckin mirror. Yes his lyrics can be clever at times, but nowhere near as clever as he thinks they are. And fuck me apparently he has 3 albums on the list...

At Mister Kelly's by Sarah Vaughan
Nov 08 2025

Can't really fault it for anything except the fact that I find it boring. Solid performances, just doesn't really do anything for me

Paranoid by Black Sabbath
Nov 09 2025

My 3rd favorite Sabbath album. Still fucking perfect

Damaged by Black Flag
Nov 10 2025

If you don't like this, I don't like you

La Revancha Del Tango by Gotan Project
Nov 13 2025

Feel like I could maybe get into this in the right circumstances, but it wasn't hitting for me the day I got it. Not bad, but it didn't do much for me

Black Metal by Venom
Nov 14 2025

I see why it's influential. There's some solid ideas/performances. Songs aren't super memorable, but there's some good moments
