Phrenology
The RootsThere were a few choice tunes on this album. But, it did not catch my ear. The Seed, Break You Off, and Quills were the strongest.

This album took me away. Early echoes of a proto Jack Johnson-type vibe. A man and his acoustic. Alternate tunings I am guessing. a haunting piano thrown in sparingly. A voice like cream in a night coffee. Really nice.
Metallica is formative in my music taste development. I was 13 when their first EP came out, so... Listened to everything they've done and seen them a few times in concert over the years too. The Black Album is epic for so many reasons - sonically, production, thematically, etc. - BUT, it is not, IMHO, their best or most coherent work.
What a gift of an artist and a gift of an album. Wow. Top notch, spiritual, deeply creative, taking you on a journey from start through to the bitter end. One of the best hip hop/r&b albums I think I have ever heard.
Im not sure that Metallicas S/M symphonic album should be on a list of the 1001 albums one must listen to before they die. I’ll bet it was one of the best live events to attend, but it doesn’t translate as an album.
