Nasty good mix on the first track
I can't be satisfied guitar is awesome - this is my favorite track
The blues had a baby named rock 'n' roll and I definitely have an easier time listening to said baby due to the twelve bars of it all
Nice! Cute. Don't listen to this type of music often but this would go hard at a summer camp or something.
Fine. I never need to hear wonderwall again, it's a boring song. I like Champagne Supernova. Most of this I wouldn't listen to again
I liked it! Chill, some really nice moments with 80s drums blending well with acoustic instruments to make sad songs more interesting. I'll probably come back to this one
Rest in peace, Bowie, you are a legend.
This album is phenomenal, his aged voice is so rich and adds great texture to the whole album. You can hear how much effort it was taking to sing compared to when he was young - he sounds pretty tired throughout and his (with love) old person vibrato is really pronounced, but he makes it work really well with the sound of the album.
The instrumentals are so good. Epic fun fact from wikipedia: "Bowie took inspiration from artists including Kendrick Lamar and Death Grips." Makes a lot of sense. And makes sense the band he used is all local jazz musicians, they are very skilled and do so many interesting lines and textures.
Crazy this is his *twenty-sixth* album!
Goddamn, I Can't Give Everything Away is so incredible. Anyway this is one of my favorite albums. Maybe someday I'll pay attention to the lyrics a little bit :D
Lots of great moments here. I have a hard time with long albums/double albums, especially on the first several listens. I'm impressed with how well this held my attention throughout. I shouldn't be that surprised that I like classic prog rock, since I love new prog rock, and I can hear so much influence.
I'll definitely listen to this again, although I'll probably do one half at a time. Phil Collins's drumming has some really standout moments, and the 2007 stereo mix on Apple Music sounds great and modern, which helps the ease of listening a lot. Even listening to the original mix on youtube, it sounds very modern and forward-thinking.
Also I love how goofy prog rock is. So much synth!
Very fun! A few standout tracks, most I probably won't go back to.
Favorites were the title track and From the Bottom of My Broken Heart
4 stars cause it was fun and goofy and did what it wanted and greatly hate overthinking music ratings. Plus this has to be higher my 3-star rating of (What's the Story) Morning Glory cause that was boooooring
Really nice! Only a couple songs I wasn't immediately interested in, but a lot of these were very good. My favorite was probably 4 + 20
Some good grooves and dancy stuff in here. But also lots of very corny, on-the-nose lyrics. Would rather listen to Underworld, Massive Attack, or many other electronic albums before coming back to this. Some cool stuff on Lightspan and other tracks.
I really couldn't enjoy the first CD, his vocal swooping and very droopy harmonica were too much for me. Several times I thought "wow this guy is doing too much for his bob dylan impression" then I remembered it was bob dylan.
The second CD is fun though! His talky singing works for me when there's other instruments playing. But in both halves I can't enjoy the parts where his words get really slurred & unintelligible
I suspect that the first Bob Dylan album I got from the list will be my least favorite (I already know I like Freewheelin' Bob Dylan pretty well)
Love Prince! This dragged on a bit as an album (so many 7-9 minute tracks), though it has some amazing songs.
A classic! I grew up with Foo Fighters as my favorite band for many years, I think The Colour and the Shape was my first album I ever owned. This was never my favorite from them — it has some amazing songs (Weenie Beenie, Good Grief, Big Me, This Is a Call all still go so hard) but several that are pretty far down on my list when I want to hear Foo Fighters.
Still very enjoyable, very influential to me & to rock music in general. Full marks for you, young, pre-infidelity Dave Grohl!
Flawless.
Neat that Caroline Polachek has production credits on No Angel. Tons of great producers here.
Fun! It's at its best when they're not leaning too hard into the white boy reggae (I'm looking at you, The Bed's Too Big Without You) and let it just be its own thing. Also I just realized I wrote the above before I realized what the title is and I stand by my above unintentional translation, "white boy reggae".
On any other day was just too goofy for me.
But a very good listen! My mom listened to a ton of Sting growing up, so it was fun to hear a full album. I found a non-remastered version
Most of this was fine, nice but a little boring. However, Hero was awesome. It was basically a dance punk song, but released in 1975? Awesome. The yelling + electronic sounds reminds me a little of Idles. This had great energy to it
Liked this a lot better than his bootleg "royal albert hall" album. I still have a hard time with Bob's vocal & harmonica style but I think the lyrics are where his music connects. I'm someone who doesn't listen to lyrics a lot by default, so I'm listening to some Johnny Cash covers of Dylan songs and having an easier time understanding why people love this. Maybe if I keep listening to covers I'll start to appreciate the original songs more...
Bangers all around. We need to encourage more 30 minute albums. I'll definitely come back to this one
Really nice! I especially love Charlie's guitar parts
The tracks go so hard. My favorites were Parental Discretion is advised, Express Yourself,
Great album, classic.
LMAO "I ain't the one to get played like a pooh butt" these guys are goofballs.
