Popular Reviews

...Baby One More Time by Britney Spears

Very fun! A few standout tracks, most I probably won't go back to. Favorites were the title track and From the Bottom of My Broken Heart 4 stars cause it was fun and goofy and did what it wanted and greatly hate overthinking music ratings. Plus this has to be higher my 3-star rating of (What's the Story) Morning Glory cause that was boooooring

Hard Again by Muddy Waters
Nov 06 2025

Nasty good mix on the first track I can't be satisfied guitar is awesome - this is my favorite track The blues had a baby named rock 'n' roll and I definitely have an easier time listening to said baby due to the twelve bars of it all

Fleet Foxes by Fleet Foxes
Nov 07 2025

Nice! Cute. Don't listen to this type of music often but this would go hard at a summer camp or something.

Nov 10 2025

Fine. I never need to hear wonderwall again, it's a boring song. I like Champagne Supernova. Most of this I wouldn't listen to again

Nov 11 2025

I liked it! Chill, some really nice moments with 80s drums blending well with acoustic instruments to make sad songs more interesting. I'll probably come back to this one

Blackstar by David Bowie
Nov 12 2025

Rest in peace, Bowie, you are a legend. This album is phenomenal, his aged voice is so rich and adds great texture to the whole album. You can hear how much effort it was taking to sing compared to when he was young - he sounds pretty tired throughout and his (with love) old person vibrato is really pronounced, but he makes it work really well with the sound of the album. The instrumentals are so good. Epic fun fact from wikipedia: "Bowie took inspiration from artists including Kendrick Lamar and Death Grips." Makes a lot of sense. And makes sense the band he used is all local jazz musicians, they are very skilled and do so many interesting lines and textures. Crazy this is his *twenty-sixth* album! Goddamn, I Can't Give Everything Away is so incredible. Anyway this is one of my favorite albums. Maybe someday I'll pay attention to the lyrics a little bit :D

Nov 13 2025

Lots of great moments here. I have a hard time with long albums/double albums, especially on the first several listens. I'm impressed with how well this held my attention throughout. I shouldn't be that surprised that I like classic prog rock, since I love new prog rock, and I can hear so much influence. I'll definitely listen to this again, although I'll probably do one half at a time. Phil Collins's drumming has some really standout moments, and the 2007 stereo mix on Apple Music sounds great and modern, which helps the ease of listening a lot. Even listening to the original mix on youtube, it sounds very modern and forward-thinking. Also I love how goofy prog rock is. So much synth!

Deja Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Nov 17 2025

Really nice! Only a couple songs I wasn't immediately interested in, but a lot of these were very good. My favorite was probably 4 + 20

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Nov 18 2025

Thoroughly enjoyed it!

En-Tact by The Shamen
Nov 19 2025

Some good grooves and dancy stuff in here. But also lots of very corny, on-the-nose lyrics. Would rather listen to Underworld, Massive Attack, or many other electronic albums before coming back to this. Some cool stuff on Lightspan and other tracks.

I really couldn't enjoy the first CD, his vocal swooping and very droopy harmonica were too much for me. Several times I thought "wow this guy is doing too much for his bob dylan impression" then I remembered it was bob dylan. The second CD is fun though! His talky singing works for me when there's other instruments playing. But in both halves I can't enjoy the parts where his words get really slurred & unintelligible I suspect that the first Bob Dylan album I got from the list will be my least favorite (I already know I like Freewheelin' Bob Dylan pretty well)

1999 by Prince
Nov 21 2025

Love Prince! This dragged on a bit as an album (so many 7-9 minute tracks), though it has some amazing songs.

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
Nov 25 2025

A classic! I grew up with Foo Fighters as my favorite band for many years, I think The Colour and the Shape was my first album I ever owned. This was never my favorite from them — it has some amazing songs (Weenie Beenie, Good Grief, Big Me, This Is a Call all still go so hard) but several that are pretty far down on my list when I want to hear Foo Fighters. Still very enjoyable, very influential to me & to rock music in general. Full marks for you, young, pre-infidelity Dave Grohl!

BEYONCÉ by Beyoncé
Nov 26 2025

Flawless. Neat that Caroline Polachek has production credits on No Angel. Tons of great producers here.

Reggatta De Blanc by The Police
Nov 27 2025

Fun! It's at its best when they're not leaning too hard into the white boy reggae (I'm looking at you, The Bed's Too Big Without You) and let it just be its own thing. Also I just realized I wrote the above before I realized what the title is and I stand by my above unintentional translation, "white boy reggae". On any other day was just too goofy for me. But a very good listen! My mom listened to a ton of Sting growing up, so it was fun to hear a full album. I found a non-remastered version

NEU! 75 by Neu!
Nov 28 2025

Most of this was fine, nice but a little boring. However, Hero was awesome. It was basically a dance punk song, but released in 1975? Awesome. The yelling + electronic sounds reminds me a little of Idles. This had great energy to it

Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
Dec 02 2025

Liked this a lot better than his bootleg "royal albert hall" album. I still have a hard time with Bob's vocal & harmonica style but I think the lyrics are where his music connects. I'm someone who doesn't listen to lyrics a lot by default, so I'm listening to some Johnny Cash covers of Dylan songs and having an easier time understanding why people love this. Maybe if I keep listening to covers I'll start to appreciate the original songs more...

Immigrés by Youssou N'Dour
Dec 04 2025

Bangers all around. We need to encourage more 30 minute albums. I'll definitely come back to this one

Jazz Samba by Stan Getz
Dec 08 2025

Really nice! I especially love Charlie's guitar parts

Dec 09 2025

The tracks go so hard. My favorites were Parental Discretion is advised, Express Yourself, Great album, classic. LMAO "I ain't the one to get played like a pooh butt" these guys are goofballs.

Layla And Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek & The Dominos
Dec 12 2025

Got a little boring with blues twangy, and is too long. But has some great songs! Loved Thorn Tree in the Garden, Layla, & Why Does Love Got To Be So Sad

Purple Rain by Prince
Dec 16 2025

Damn, when doves cry -> i would die 4 u -> (baby i'm a star) -> purple rain is maybe the strongest album ending of all time.

So by Peter Gabriel
Dec 22 2025

I love 80s new wave! And I've heard the hits from this one, but I didn't expect to enjoy the full runtime so much. Also love the features from Kate Bush, Laurie Anderson, and Nile Rodgers!

Blur by Blur
Dec 23 2025

Liked about half of this pretty well

In The Wee Small Hours by Frank Sinatra
Jan 01 2026

Too long! Too samey! Nice music, but I don't think I ever need to listen to a whole album of Frank again. Some of these songs are very good, and could be highly romantic in the right context. That context is not surrounded by other equally dramatic romantic songs

The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter by The Incredible String Band
Jan 09 2026

Too long and an awful mix, but I like some of these songs. I think Scottish folk singing makes 60s psychedelic music more interesting to me. The low rating on here is surprising, like yes they're not hitting notes all the time but it's nothing like The Shaggs, and their singing is *way* more pitch-accurate (and comprehensible) than bob dylan on his royal albert hall bootleg.

The Stone Roses by The Stone Roses
Jan 12 2026

Some incredible songs on here (I Wanna Be Adored, Waterfall), and some jammy stuff I'm not really into (Fools Gold etc).

Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd
Jan 13 2026

Lots of great stuff here, I can see why it's such a well loved album. Love the thick guitar/bass stacking on Wish You Were Here. But since I'm rating these based purely on my enjoyment, it gets a 3.5 for the whole thing being very downtempo, and as one review I read said, "it's like they knew we'd be trippin'". So me not trippin' is not the target audience here. I imagine I'll like this more as I get to know it better.

Manassas by Stephen Stills
Jan 16 2026
Raw Power by The Stooges
Jan 20 2026

Some bangers and some duds. Of course very influential to punk, but wouldn't listen to most of these tracks over earlier garage rock or slightly later punk, except as a history lesson

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg
Jan 27 2026

Absolute bangers, amazing groove, iconic, hilarious. 5 stars minus 1 for the misogyny on Ain't No Fun & throughout

Scream, Dracula, Scream by Rocket From The Crypt
Jan 29 2026

Nice! Fun to hear punk with a horn section outside of a ska context.

Zombie by Fela Kuti
Feb 02 2026

Short, sweet, groovy, excellent

Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses
Feb 03 2026

This is so fun to listen to. Sweet Child O' Mine is a very sick riff. Also some filler that was kinda boring. And every song probably doesn't need to be 6 minutes long, but I guess Slash needs his solo time somewhere!

Feb 04 2026

Kanye's verses were always my least favorite part of this album. Hard to listen now without thinking of his inevitable Nazification. Unfortunately Kanye didn't listen internalize some of his own lyrics - "Balding, Donald Trump taking dollars from y'all" - or maybe he really meant "y'all" in the exclusive sense Also crazy that I knew "Blame Game" before Avril 14th by Aphex Twin, so I never knew it was based on that sample. Funny to hear it after learning the Aphex Twin song on piano.

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Feb 05 2026

I love the beatles, but the only track on here that I really dug was In My Life

Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
Feb 06 2026

I think I'll come back to several of these songs. There were a few that were really, really good, but as an album I was a little bored by about half of it. Probably says more about my preferences than the quality of the music.

Californication by Red Hot Chili Peppers
Feb 09 2026

Some great stuff, plenty of stuff I'm not super drawn to. Favorite song: Porcelain

Franz Ferdinand by Franz Ferdinand
Feb 13 2026

YouTube music autoplayed like 7 songs after this album finished and I was a little suspicious for one of them but was totally convinced that the others were part of the album

Back In Black by AC/DC
Feb 16 2026

Having to sit through Let Me Put My Love Into You to get to Back in Black feels like the universe trying to teach me a lesson or something. Anyway, mostly iconic, several very forgettable songs. I don't think I need to listen to this as an album again.

The ArchAndroid by Janelle Monáe
Feb 18 2026

Lots of good music here, I just couldn't get into the flow of the album, it's too long with too much variety. Maybe it's unfocused or maybe I wasn't focused enough on it, idk

Isn't Anything by My Bloody Valentine
Feb 19 2026

I liked this a lot. It sounds more raw than loveless, which I appreciate

Deserter's Songs by Mercury Rev
Feb 20 2026

This is exactly the type of album I want to find through this list - I grew up listening to Oracular Spectacular by MGMT, Neon Indian, The Woods by Sleater-Kinney, Of the Blue Colour of the Sky by OK Go, and so many other albums produced by Dave Fridmann. I knew the name, but had never heard of Mercury Rev. It's cool to hear so many of the sonic trademarks of 2000s-2010s indie/inde rock/psychedlic rock in an album from 1998. Plus, I liked the album!

At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
Feb 23 2026

Man, I don't have time for jam rock

Talk Talk Talk by The Psychedelic Furs
Feb 25 2026

Some great stuff here, but the vocals generally didn't connect with me. I would come back to this and could see myself liking it a lot in the future

We're Only In It For The Money by The Mothers Of Invention
Feb 26 2026

Some clever, fun critique of hippies with interesting instrumentation, and plenty of eh.

Feb 27 2026

Not really moved by this. I love how cohesive and interesting the village green preservation society is, and most of the songs here didn't have any of that charm and interest that I found there.

Rust Never Sleeps by Neil Young & Crazy Horse
Mar 02 2026

Not super moved by this on a first listen. Plenty to like, and I could see loving it on future listens.

Sunshine Hit Me by The Bees
Mar 05 2026

This is fun! Not sure everyone needs to listen to it, maybe just Jared Hess and a few other indie film directors.

Disraeli Gears by Cream
Mar 10 2026

A few good tracks and lots of aged british white boy rock 'n' roll. Tales of Brave Ulysses was fun!

Good Old Boys by Randy Newman
Mar 11 2026

I feel like I need to be more intimately familiar with 20th-century Louisiana politics before I really get this album. I love how it sounds! Interesting songs, and some good social criticism.

Led Zeppelin III by Led Zeppelin
Mar 12 2026

I love when music from 1970 can still be so exciting to hear more than 50 years later. The opening of Immigrant Song is just too good. The rest of the album is quite good too!

Faith by George Michael
Mar 13 2026
Melodrama by Lorde
Mar 17 2026

I have a hard time liking Lorde's vocal style, but it's definitely a me problem — this album is excellent. Gotta listen to more Kiwi musicians I suppose. So much great production and writing.

Risque by CHIC
Mar 19 2026

NILE F***ING ROGERS AND BERNARD F***ING EDWARDS. I'm embarrassed that I didn't know Bernard's name before now, or that he and Nile co-wrote Chic's stuff. The guitar is legendary ofc but the bass lines throughout are so incredible. I mean, Good Times is *the* bass line. I was wondering if this would fall off after the amazing first half, and Cant' Stand to Love You was a little less interesting, but then Will You Cry comes on with the nastiest, funkiest bass line & vocals. This song is what "in the pocket" means.

2112 by Rush
Mar 25 2026

1 extra star for good guitar playing (especially on Tears)

Go Girl Crazy by The Dictators
Apr 01 2026

This was very fun! I love the sound, unsurprisingly. The guitar at the end of Weekend was especially nice. Lyrics are very silly and dumb and I'd have to listen again more carefully to form more of an opinion than that :D

Apr 10 2026

This was awesome and fun. I love prog rock. I don't think we need 2 Genesis albums on this list (or almost any of the repeats that are here) but I preferred this to The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway

Dummy by Portishead
