Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company

we love

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers

this is real music to me. meaningful lyrics about the human condition paired with tunes that don’t need to try so hard to impress you; nor is it about the artist and what you’ll think of them once the song is over. will always be 5 stars for me.

Deserter's Songs by Mercury Rev

Did not enjoy this. I feel like a Daniel Johnston album could easily replace this—both are awkward indie vocalists with deeper lyrics.

insane! was assuming it’d be more transient free jazz, but this is almost orchestral, with just a bit more intentional cacophony. the latin sounding guitar solos were a delightful surprise. didn’t realize how much i didn’t know about this artist, but had assumed it based on a few songs.

Live! by Fela Kuti
Dec 17 2025

Vibrant, fun, with that classic keyboard sounds like the break in Water Got No Enemy. Great to take some time to hear the This album made me realize how much more American rock there is than anything else, which got me upset. Zamrock is right there! Afro beats alone is too vast to reduce to Fela, no matter how iconic. How many U2 albums are on this???? And what is there to show for all of Africa??? Not enough of the good shit!

Surf's Up by The Beach Boys
Dec 18 2025

Very solid. Great lyrics and bursting harmonies. I tried to think that they were overrated in their earlier days, but I undeniably get it. Better to be in on it than be a hater

Deep Purple In Rock by Deep Purple
Dec 19 2025

Every time they sang it made it worse. Talented guitarists for sure, but it’s not my thing.

Aladdin Sane by David Bowie
Dec 22 2025

Never heard a bad song by him. Great start to my day, but then I did listen to Low, and I just prefer other albums more. He set his own bar too high!

Moondance by Van Morrison
Dec 23 2025

Could have died without listening to this again. Very whiny and repetitive. Wah wah, wah wah, wah wah wah

Felt Mountain by Goldfrapp
Dec 25 2025

Was lucky to hear about this just a few months before it was suggested. Brilliant musically. The lyrical progressions are very original, yet feel timeless with such ancient roots of what singing once was. Have already listened to it again ;)

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Jan 05 2026

I wanted to give this 3 stars soooo badly but it’s seriously banger after banger

Highway to Hell by AC/DC
Jan 06 2026

As a feminist, it deserves less than what I gave it. However, the guitar slaps. Musically gifted for sure.

Catch A Fire by Bob Marley & The Wailers
Jan 07 2026

this is real music to me. meaningful lyrics about the human condition paired with tunes that don’t need to try so hard to impress you; nor is it about the artist and what you’ll think of them once the song is over. will always be 5 stars for me.

Machine Gun Etiquette by The Damned
Jan 08 2026

while i was listening to the album, i was probably sitting next to some of the most fried people on the train that i’d seen for a long time. with this album on, i didn’t care too much. it starts out strong and keeps it up. yelling? no match for this — even on medium-range volume, i wasn’t too worried about what was going on. this was a great pre-punk album. the lyrics hold against the test of time and the musicians are talented and inventive with their use of tempo. the range of loudness to silence was well-executed.

Gold by Ryan Adams
Jan 09 2026

Not a huge fan. I definitely got more into the songs as the album progressed

Cheap Thrills by Big Brother & The Holding Company
Jan 12 2026

we love

Melodrama by Lorde
Jan 13 2026

i listened to this when it came out, and was disappointed off the high of pure heroine. revisiting it, i was much more appreciative of the intentionality of the additional production compared to her first album. the lyrics were hitting this time — maybe i’ve matured. pretty sure i forgave myself for feeling a way about all of my past boyfriends.

Vulnicura by Björk
Jan 14 2026

my girl is so interesting!! sound over voice but she works with it!!

Bummed by Happy Mondays
Jan 15 2026

this was fine 50 years later. i can get the cultural influence at the time. it’s just funny that genre blending has become so normal now

Jan 19 2026

I liked it. I even listened to it twice in a row to debate the 4 versus the 5. Having heard Jesus, Etc. prior to the rest of the album, the rest of the songs were definitely a pleasant surprise. The sounds of Radiohead and Elliott Smith dominated my impression of the album—hence the 4 stars, because I do like them! In the end, it was difficult to determine the answer to “who is Wilco?” Although, whoever they do want to be, they can absolutely do it well.

Here, My Dear by Marvin Gaye
Jan 23 2026

4 for marvin standards. i have loved funky space reincarnation since my late teens.

The Bends by Radiohead
Jan 26 2026

this is a-okay! is it a perfect album for me? no! that’s ok computer!

Debut by Björk

Deserter's Songs by Mercury Rev

Did not enjoy this. I feel like a Daniel Johnston album could easily replace this—both are awkward indie vocalists with deeper lyrics.

Maggot Brain by Funkadelic
Feb 03 2026

“I once had a life, or rather, life had me” will absolutely be written on my gravestone, if I were to die.

Ys by Joanna Newsom
Feb 04 2026

i didn’t get the niche hype before, but wow! she’s like the witch sister of bjork. not sure if i would listen to her music all of the time, but it hits a symphonic and beautiful spot in my lady heart that im sure ill be back for more

Bitte Orca by Dirty Projectors
Feb 05 2026

holy shit was i missing out!! the tightest album ive ever heard. not a note out of place. hearing each song after the other was so exciting and refreshing. wish it was longer tbh

Unknown Pleasures by Joy Division
Feb 06 2026

I get the vibes and the timeliness, but sometimes it really boils down to a Brit being sad over cheery guitar track

I Should Coco by Supergrass
Feb 10 2026

This whole album was solid! I recognized Alright instantly (didn’t realize how old it was), but then I started to fear that this was a one hit wonder album. Turns out that’s not the case.

Made In Japan by Deep Purple
Feb 11 2026

Better than the other Deep Purple album. Did we need two on this list?? Probably not. Glad this band means something to somebody else

Night Life by Ray Price
Feb 12 2026

Rather pleasant; minimal misogyny.

Superunknown by Soundgarden
Feb 13 2026

RIP to a legend but I just don’t feel millennials rock music in my soul

The Specials by The Specials
Feb 16 2026

fine for ska, not my favorite revival

Feb 17 2026

ok i never realized this was a white british dj….always just heard the name and assumed it was rap. this? slapped. would have been 5 stars but i did not care for the song about him fucking

Brothers by The Black Keys
Feb 18 2026

I did like this, but I just don’t think I’ll revisit it as an album. The hits will surely come up when im feeling nostalgic, and that will be enough.

Murmur by R.E.M.
Feb 20 2026

this is the soundtrack to the worst episode of scrubs.

Electric Ladyland by Jimi Hendrix
Feb 24 2026

yes absolutely very good. i appreciated the continuous metaphor of burning down the house. only think holding me back from a 5 is that i dont get that feeling of i need to live and breathe the album inside and out.

Licensed To Ill by Beastie Boys
Feb 25 2026

5 stars for rick rubin…. damn…….this is so well-produced. 3 stars for white men rapping. the punk spin gives them lots of points there. 4 stars for the average.

Imagine by John Lennon
Feb 26 2026
Funeral by Arcade Fire
Mar 02 2026
Surrealistic Pillow by Jefferson Airplane
Mar 03 2026

didn’t realize how many songs i knew on this album. looks like it’ll be a bad listen, but it wasn’t so bad. will i listen again? not necessarily. some songs are just tired

Fifth Dimension by The Byrds
Mar 04 2026

this album feels like a wannabe-Beatles album. something that is good, because it’s reminiscent of something great. in my opinion, this one could be phased out against the test of time.

Risque by CHIC
Mar 05 2026

They wanted to be at the club and they absolutely did it….. i was truly born in the wrong generation….5 stars for disco daddie Niles Rodgers but 4 because this album is not on my rotation like that

Nothing's Shocking by Jane's Addiction
Mar 06 2026

honestly listened to it twice and will listen again. great post punk vibes

Thriller by Michael Jackson
Mar 09 2026

this was the album of my parents generation. my mom can still vividly recall the day she saw the thriller video released in DC. paul mccartney disappointed me on his song

Foo Fighters by Foo Fighters
Mar 12 2026

i just don’t get it

Fly Or Die by N.E.R.D
Mar 13 2026

slapped and unique sound

Ready To Die by The Notorious B.I.G.
Mar 16 2026

the misogyny really got to me. this lyrically doesn’t age well. beats and samples are cool, but i would not revisit this as a whole album.

Music in Exile by Songhoy Blues
Mar 17 2026

refreshing in the sea of white rock. zamrock will always be better to me

Pornography by The Cure
Mar 20 2026

this was fine, idk!!! sorry to every man ever. ik y’all love the cure down like that.

Elvis Presley by Elvis Presley
Mar 23 2026

firstly, i had pulled out The Clash - London Calling about a few hours before I checked the generator. Crazy coincidence. for the album, i get why elvis did not fw the beatles when they came out. it’s definitely about someone’s voice and lyrics overtop of sound styles they’ve heard from the greats, and they’ll keep seeing until they become great. i couldn’t get into this album until the last 3 songs, where i finally started to understand what elvis brought to the evolution from rock and roll. aside from being one of the very first pop sensations, his impact on music feels divided by his physical performance and his records. the ballads are much more unique and interesting just listening to them, but he’s a better entertainer when he copies those of chuck berry and little richard. overall, this was a great album to listen to and try and put myself in the mind of the times

OK Computer by Radiohead
Mar 24 2026

i do not know the words but every sound of this album. the whole block shakes as i play this in my 2000 oldsmobile alero with no bass so i don’t blow the speakers. i wish thom yorke never feels joy and therefore must return with a sequel album of OK cellphone

Opus Dei by Laibach
Mar 27 2026

this was a fun album to get from this list. really intriguing band. is it my favorite? no! but did i enjoy learning of their existence? absolutely!

At Fillmore East by The Allman Brothers Band
Mar 30 2026

they did better than i was assuming. the bar was unfortunately low

3 + 3 by The Isley Brothers
Mar 31 2026
Central Reservation by Beth Orton
Apr 01 2026

im a feminist but i think we can do better than this. indie rock shoe gaze sounds best in a k hole

Jagged Little Pill by Alanis Morissette
Apr 07 2026

one hand in my pocket, and another one holding up a peace sign, for the two stars this album deserves.

Chelsea Girl by Nico
Apr 08 2026

albums starts with straight bangers, but as it goes on, it sounds the same. beautiful lady still love these timeless songs

Goo by Sonic Youth
Apr 09 2026
Highway 61 Revisited by Bob Dylan
Apr 14 2026

lyrics make up for the severe lack of vocal range. all poets are douche bags anyways *shrugs*

Rid Of Me by PJ Harvey
Apr 16 2026

just when i needed some female rage, this masterpiece came around. thank you generator

Apr 17 2026

i was going to throw so much shade for them sounding like radiohead, but that is apparently not a new thought. still slaps tho

Parallel Lines by Blondie
Apr 20 2026

i am always transported to the beach whenever this album is on
