Dire Straits by Dire Straits

Dad rock at its best. Good riffs. Probably would grow on me a bit if I listened more. Great production. 70’s clean and open. Would sound great on a good set of speakers.

Rage Against The Machine by Rage Against The Machine

4.5/5 - A favorite in early high school. Still sounds strong and powerful. The lyrics seem more pertinent than ever with fascist ICE picking people up off the street. More young men should probably be listening to this instead of whichever alt right podcast is currently trending. Had a lot of fun listening to this one again.

First 5 star album. Stunning album. The American albums are a great example of artists putting out high quality recordings at the end of their career. So much emotion and feeling in these songs. Really enjoy this every time I give it a spin.

Always a favorite. Have bounced off most of the other Springsteen albums but I’m sure more will be on the list and I’ll give them an another try. 4 to 4.5 for me.

Blackstar by David Bowie

Listened to this a week or so ago for the 10 year anniversary. What a way to go out. This album was very special to me that year it came out. I burned it on a cd and drove around in my mom’s car listening to it over and over. Some killer tracks and a brilliant end to a brilliant career. First Bowie album from the list so far. Excited for the next one.

Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout

3 maybe 4 stars. Had seen the name before but never listened to anything by the band. What a wonderful treat. First half is very strong and the second half has some decent tracks. This is why this list is so fun at times. Discovering gems like this is exactly what I was hoping for. First listen, Faron Young, Bonny, Appetite, and Desire As stood out. Will listen again later this week.

Miriam Makeba by Miriam Makeba

Another wonderful discovery from this project. Enjoyed this immensely. What a beautiful voice. I agree One More Dance does not fit and detracts from the rest of the album a bit but this quirky album is a breath of fresh air. 4.5 /5

Tommy by The Who
Jan 26 2026

I did not like this very much. For its time, I can see how important it was. Very weird album and concept. For 1969 this would have been pretty unique I imagine. I just found it mostly boring. We all love Pinball Wizard but not a lot else I loved or liked or wanted to listen to again. I don't know The Who outside of singles so interested to see if any of their other albums land higher.

4.5 - has some beautiful songs. I’m set free is one of my favorites.

I feel like this might be in my top ten of all time. A desert island album that always gives up something new on a listen. This album sounds like a night out in New Orleans and you take the band with you as you go. Stopping at a friends apartment, a funeral, the bars, and then back home as the sun comes up. Few albums bring me this much joy.

Station To Station by David Bowie
Feb 10 2026

9/10 - fantastic album. Not my favorite by Bowie but a strong album. Almost gave it a 5/5 but was afraid to give every Bowie on this list a perfect score. Love this one a lot but doesn’t make it in my S tier list for Bowie
