The Wall by Pink Floyd
Jan 23 2026

Wildly cohesive, feels very much the same feeling I get when I listen to soundtracks like Hamilton, everything flows into the next and continues the process of the story being told. Very moody, the first part definitely gave me feelings of... almost dread? Based on my read of the plot of the movie, I'm getting that claustrophobia with a lot of it. The second half is a lot more upbeat, kind of like the story is resolving in a positive manner. I'd have to dig into the lyrics more to figure it all out though.

Jan 24 2026

As opposed to yesterday, this is far more a straight down the middle rock album. Not in rating, but in what it's going for. Each song is its own thing to say rather than the soundtrack feel of The Wall. Obviously, two immediate classics with I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For and With Or Without You. I don't think the rest of the album hits nearly that hard, so it does feel a little more like a few big bangers surrounded by lessers.

Low-Life by New Order
Jan 25 2026

The synth was kind of nice, but somewhat forgettable to me.

Cosmo's Factory by Creedence Clearwater Revival
Jan 26 2026

Meh, alright.

Jan 27 2026

Feels like cutting edge for 1963, love the energy. Sam Cooke really has a fun voice, makes you want to dance.

You Want It Darker by Leonard Cohen
Jan 28 2026

Personally not a fan of his voice. The music around it is very good, but I cannot get past that. Voice is a major component for me and if I don't jive with the voice, I don't really want to listen to it all that much.

Tonight's The Night by Neil Young
Jan 29 2026

Not bad, enjoyable enough, but nothing stood out. I prefer CSNY together.

Jan 30 2026

Eh, I just didn't get it; it felt more like an explosion of sound more than a rock album to me.

Vol. 4 by Black Sabbath
Jan 31 2026

Pretty good, enjoyable. Changes was really nice.

Antichrist Superstar by Marilyn Manson
Feb 01 2026

I mean, I get it for folks that like this kind of music but it's just not for me. Too screamy.

Abbey Road by Beatles
Feb 02 2026

Absolute classic, incredible music.

Pet Sounds by The Beach Boys
Feb 03 2026

This could be due to the fact that music has changed and evolved since 1966, but this only feels like muzak to me.

Gorillaz by Gorillaz
Feb 04 2026

Of course Clint Eastwood is a classic song, but man, this album has some really good tracks. Very enjoyable listen.

Heaven Or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins
Feb 05 2026

Didn't strike me as anything too incredible, but listenable. Very much feels like background music.

Come Away With Me by Norah Jones
Feb 06 2026

Beautiful voice; not my usual style. Would give 3.5 if possible.

C'est Chic by CHIC
Feb 07 2026

Pretty good R&B album! Le Freak is a classic, of course.

Doolittle by Pixies
Feb 09 2026

Very much a predecessor of a lot of music I really like.

Marquee Moon by Television
Feb 10 2026

Fun rock album. Very enjoyable. 4 star.

Feb 11 2026

Nice beats, good grooves, everything works well together. Speakerboxxx works a lot better for me than The Love Below, but you definitely get the difference in the direction each was going at the time.

The Stranger by Billy Joel
Feb 13 2026

I mean, there are multiple songs here that are straight up classics. Movin' Out (Anthony's Song) as the opening song is a pretty big "yeah, I know this is a banger" move. I don't think this is an album that can be pulled out in any situation, but it is still a 5 star.

Feb 14 2026

In My Place and Clocks are really good, but most here are the kind of milquetoast Coldplay that I'm not the biggest fan of.

Savane by Ali Farka Touré
Feb 15 2026

I'm glad I listened to it. I will say it's not really my thing.

Can't Buy A Thrill by Steely Dan
Feb 16 2026

Why yes, I am white and getting into middle age. Thanks for the Steely Dan.

Eagles by Eagles
Feb 17 2026

Starts really strongly, then kind of just floats the rest of the way. Take It Easy and Witchy Woman are both classics, thought.

Time (The Revelator) by Gillian Welch
Feb 18 2026

Reminds me of home in SW Virginia. Not my usual jam, but mostly nice to listen to.

Tracy Chapman by Tracy Chapman
Feb 19 2026

Am I going to make a McElroy brothers reference by referencing Faster Car? Just did. Either way, the musicality of the album is very pleasing, and Tracy's voice is beautiful, which is a wonderful juxtaposition with the tensions rippling in the lyrics. Behind the Wall in particular is striking as a cappella, Tracy standing against the world.

The Low End Theory by A Tribe Called Quest
Feb 20 2026

Clearly a building block to R&B and rap of today. Love the beats. Smooth.

2112 by Rush
Feb 21 2026

I usually like Rush but I found this one went in one ear and out the other without making much of an impact.

The Velvet Underground & Nico by The Velvet Underground
Feb 22 2026

Sitting in 2026, this feels... fine? I can definitely see how important it is in the history of rock and roll; that being said, it is a middle-of-the-road record to me. Funnily enough, the only song that really gave an impact was European Son, mostly because of the way it feels like the album is actively falling apart as it's being played.

Superfuzz Bigmuff by Mudhoney
Feb 23 2026

This is an album that I can both see the inspiration that others took, and also an album that's enjoyable to listen to. It helps that I like that grungy sound they're going for. I did grow up on Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, of course!

Feb 24 2026

Beautiful. Hearing Johnny Cash put his spin on a lot of good cover songs was really wonderful to listen to.

Revolver by Beatles
Feb 25 2026

Look, I may be Beatles-pilled but I don't think there's an album of theirs that I don't love.

Viva Hate by Morrissey
Feb 26 2026

Kinda just meh at best. Doesn't land with me, I suppose.

Smash by The Offspring
Mar 04 2026

As a 90s kid, Offspring is always a fan favorite. Come Out and Play (Keep 'Em Separated) is played often for a reason.

Risque by CHIC
Mar 06 2026

Good Times is... well, a good time. It's all pretty fun, but that's the standout for me.

Paul Simon by Paul Simon
Mar 07 2026

Eh, fine. Nothing felt spectacular to me.

The Message by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five
Mar 08 2026

Fun time, good beats, really fun to say "oh hey, I know that sample".

Beggars Banquet by The Rolling Stones
Mar 09 2026

Sympathy For The Devil, wonderful as always. The rest... kind of forgettable.

Mar 13 2026

Prelisten: Tempted to give a five before even listening because I know Bohemian Rhapsody is awaiting me. Postlisten: Surprisingly felt a little more Beatles than what I was anticipating. Best Friend and Bohemian Rhapsody are incredible, everything else didn't make much of dent to me.

Moon Safari by Air
Mar 14 2026

Pleasant enough, but nothing stood out.

Mar 15 2026

Not my style, but pretty good; you can definitely see where it influenced many.

Queens of the Stone Age by Queens Of The Stone Age
Mar 17 2026

Was having a pretty good time before it flew off into the stratosphere in the second half. Wasn't really into the more conceptual pieces.

All Directions by The Temptations
Mar 18 2026

Nice jam, but nothing stood out to me.

Cypress Hill by Cypress Hill
Mar 24 2026

The beats are OK, if a little eccentric (and a touch annoying), but not much else is good to me.

Celebrity Skin by Hole
Mar 25 2026

A couple of good songs but kind of meh mostly.
