I've tried very very hard to understand why people like Joni Mitchell, this album maybe got me the closest, but I'm afraid it's still not for me.

Becoming my father

Amazing production, something that still feels completely new

A cool aspect of Britpop with an interesting production, also the first album on this list by an artist I hadn't heard of yet

Dusty is an exceptional singer (her phrasing on some of these songs, like "When the Love Starts Shining Thru His Eyes," is breathtaking), but it feels strange to include a cover album on a "best of" list, and I'd be curious to see how many albums from the artists she covered made it onto the list as well

They really don't make production anymore like they do in the 1970s

Sometimes you forget Layla is the best song in the world. And then you listen to it again and realize that Layla is the best song in the world. And then you hear the rest of this album and realize there is some sick guitar playing here, even though all the songs get overshadowed by Layla, the best song in the world.

I'm sure live albums are an important part of music history. This one is probably not one of them. I'm sure there are 1980s dad rock bands worthy of reevaluation. However hard I Want You to Want Me went in 10 Things I Hate About You, I don't think this is one of them either. Honestly a little insulting for this to be on the list at all, especially to the hundreds of artists who have put out much better music, even if confining ourselves to the Western Anglophone rock tradition which this list biases, and shows the myopia of this list (as with most of this kind).

Stunning, strange, beautiful even though I'd never heard of the band. Exactly the reason why I listen to this stuff.

This is the 36th album I've gotten off this list and the first not from the anglosphere which speaks a bit to some of the flaws of this type of list-making. I can see why the music is extremely innovative, but listening to it made me feel like I need to disinfect myself.

An entire album of Police may be too much Police for me
