Starting with one I've heard before. Fuck this is a good album.
Apparently even when I listened to a lot of Queen it was only in their middle years! I dig how theatrical this is. I've listened to "Bohemian Rhapsody" too many times and can't stand it now: this is like what if that, but not something you've heard three hundred times!
Apparently I may have listened to like one U2 song ever? I thought I had heard "Sunday Bloody Sunday" but I may have only heard covers. Solid rock album. I like the things they do with drums/guitars at parts.
I'm glad I heard it, and I wouldn't mind listening again, but I wouldn't seek it out
I'm glad I heard it, and I wouldn't mind listening again, but I wouldn't seek it out
Apparently Crazy Horse is a band, not a guy! I should listen to Americana...
I have never heard of Paul Weller! Who is this?
Not really my cup of tea. Sounds like something I'd listen to in a coffee shop and not mind I guess.
That's harsh. But this is fine. It's fine?
"I Wanna Sleep With You" reminds me of Bob Mortimer's songs on Last One Laughing UK but I don't mean that in a bad way.
Mostly speak singing but I like it. There's just so much music! I can't imagine seeking this out again.
I mean damn, "Wonderwall" is actually a damn good song huh.
With this project I've worried that everything has been "whatever I guess it's fine", so maybe the problem was me. But this one resonated! I can see why this is a classic.
These song titles are for a prog album, but with the length of hyperpop or something.
Oh shit, "Patterns" sounds awesome. I think I may have found vocal forward music I like? It just has to be folk?
Yesterday: "I just need folk"
Today: "not like that I guess"
I actually don't dislike it like I thought I did at first. I've never heard of Devendra Banhart and it sounds very weird! Spooky folk. Not really my jam (though I bet I would have loved it in ~2013 or whenever my Daytrotter days were)
I would have LOVED this in my CIRRIE days. I still like it!
What a mix of styles.
Beach Samba... de amigo??
I've seen samba referenced a few times recently so I'm glad I'm listening to a classic. It's, you know, fine? Not what I'd want to listen to but very interesting as a historical document. I guess.
"You Didn't Have To Be So Nice" was a jump scare with a kid singing!
(the real joy was Apple Music's samba/bossa nova/jazz mix it played afterward!)
I don't think I'm finishing this listen on Friday. Lots of music here! I think I've listened to this album before but don't remember it. I need to listen to more Prince, this rules.
I don't love the fake live album thing. I did do leo-pointing at "Piece of My Heart"
Some of these are like oh hey I actually might like this sort of stuff. And then sometimes it is... not that. On the whole, absolutely not my jam.
Not on Apple Music for some reason? Sample related I assume.
Solid old school hip hop.
"Why am I listening to this?" But then "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" comes on and I'm like OH, this is THEM. Scratch my "how have I never heard any of this if it's so important" response!
Fun enough I guess but I think I'm set on Queenlikes.
Yeah, this is great! Obviously older but this is the sort of thing I wanted from this project.
I spent a lot of the time reading about him on Wikipedia. Weird guy!
Feeling out of it while hacking. Not my usual but she's certainly talented.
I knew of Siouxie but hadn't heard anything. This is good! It sounds like something ahead of its time.
I hadn't heard this album! Talking Heads are so damn good.
I've been meaning to listen to this again anyway. I remember hearing "Swimming Pools (Drank)" on All Songs Considered forever ago. I was in front of Delta Sonic, either biking or walking. What was I doing up there? Maybe driving and I was getting gas...
A lot of this reminds me of "A Life In the Day Of Benjamin Andre" in good ways.
I can see why this is a classic. I'm famously not a huge vocal person but this works for me. I like it better than early Beatles, I think? I'm also a sucker for being able to hear bass lines and "I Want Her She Wants Me" has that in spades. Oh, and "This Will Be Our Year"! Yeah, good album.
If I had heard it earlier I'd have liked it more. It's fine! Was distracted listening during Hackathon too...
I wonder if I would think this was solid 5/5 bangers if I hadn't listened to it before. I like it way more than yesterday's.
I hadn't heard this at all! Very good stuff.
I originally thought I would like this more than I did, and kinda came around in the end (okay partially related to their politics). It's a rock opera, but besides two songs (the one leading into Wallace and then Wallace) I didn't really know if they were related. Wikipedia didn't have a summary! Glad I heard them though.
Great album! I hadn't heard it but really dig it. Lots of range in styles too.
Oh hell yeah! This album rules.
I mean... it's OK Computer.
I'll be honest, when I first saw "pop" I was like ugh I guess... but this is great. This probably would have been one of my albums of the year when I was in my EMA/Courtney Barnett era, which I never really left.
"The Architect" in particular is pretty great.
I don't really know why this is such a classic that it's on the list, but I'm really glad I heard it.
...eh? I guess I can see how this would be amazing but now it just sounds like generic rock.
"Love's In Need Of Love Today": okay this album won't be my thing but I'll listen anyway
"Have A Talk With God" starts: what IS this (complimentary)
This is great! Lots of styles. And songs that have been reused in the 90s?
He sings about cocaine kind of a lot, huh
I think I do like Johnny Cash. I didn't think I did for a while.
