Darkness on the Edge of Town by Bruce Springsteen

The Boss is a really great songwriter, but I prefer to hear other people perform his songs. It feels like a boomer musical that gets made for tv

Rubber Soul by Beatles
Jun 24 2026

Great way to start the project. This is a Beatles album, and a very good one at that. Everyone is on top form on this album; the breakdowns on “Drive My Car” remind you that Ringo is a world class drummer, George’s guitar solo on “Nowhere Man” is surprisingly crisp, and John and Paul are John and Paul the whole time. There really isn’t a miss on this album and I’d happily listen to it again for every day of this project. Some songs feel a bit dated, but it’s Rubber Soul so that is easily disregarded.

The White Album by Beatles
Jun 25 2026

Despite its near universal acclaim, this album did not feel as perfect as Rubber Soul. The White Album’s highs are as good as music can be: Dear Prudence, the string of tracks from Happiness is a Warm Gun up to Blackbird, I Will, and Revolution 1 are all masterpieces. However, the lows are much lower and they hurt the experience of this album as a whole. It’s still The White Album so it can’t go much lower than 4 stars.

Blue Lines by Massive Attack
Jun 26 2026

I actually a decent album if a bit boring or same.‘I especially liked the back half, I particular the final song. I wish I had heard this in public at a cool lounge instead of in my headphones.

Rio by Duran Duran
Jun 29 2026

I definitely enjoyed this album. It sounded very similar to a lot of the other music from this era that I’ve heard, though certainly not in a bad way. I always mix up this band with Depeche Mode.

It's Blitz! by Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Jun 30 2026

Picture this: it’s march of 2009. Obama has just been inaugurated. You work for a “tech startup” that’s really just a blog website. You live in bushwick. You go to a house party with a pair of shutter shades on, and dance to the new Yeah Yeah Yeahs album all night. I was born in the wrong generation.

Phrenology by The Roots
Jul 01 2026

Didn’t really care for this one besides the last two tracks

Jul 02 2026

Every track is incredible. I think it’s hurt by its density. There are just so many songs that are all so short that it’s hard to lock into it. If any of the (very numerous, extremely good) ideas here had time to breathe, this would be a perfect album. Fucker

Deserter's Songs by Mercury Rev
Jul 03 2026

A solid indie rock record that sounds of the time and scene in which it was created. The Flaming Lips connection was both apparent and welcome.

A Love Supreme by John Coltrane
Jul 06 2026

This is one of the greatest pieces of music ever composed, by one of the finest and most important musicians to ever live. This album is extremely special; Coltrane conveys a meditation on love without using lyrics, weaves a narrative throughout 32 minutes. Very few pieces of art touch this one.

Doggystyle by Snoop Dogg
Jul 07 2026

I liked this much more than I thought I would. For how ubiquitous he is, I never really listened to Snoop Dogg’s music and I quickly realized how good he was. Dre’s production was so good too

Nowhere by Ride
Jul 08 2026

Really solid shoegaze album. Reminds of swirlies and a toned down mbv. God I can’t wait until mbv comes up in this project

1999 by Prince
Jul 09 2026

Absolutely horrible. 9 minute long synth loops with prince whispering about sex and grunting the whole time. I thought he was supposed to be some sort of legend?

Van Halen by Van Halen
Jul 10 2026

Eddie is very clearly the goat and eruption is obviously an impressive song but this whole album feels like a 10 year olds idea of good music

Darkness on the Edge of Town by Bruce Springsteen
Jul 13 2026

The Boss is a really great songwriter, but I prefer to hear other people perform his songs. It feels like a boomer musical that gets made for tv

Let It Bleed by The Rolling Stones
Jul 14 2026

It is so awesome that they just did a country album. The guitar is always so good on stones songs. This album honestly drags a bit but it gets the first 3 starts for gimme shelter alone

A Seat at the Table by Solange
Jul 15 2026

Nicely done solange! I really liked the writing on this album

Sweet Baby James by James Taylor
Jul 16 2026

Somehow both extremely bland and cloyingly sweet at the same time

All Directions by The Temptations
Jul 20 2026

This album completely blew open my expectations of what Motown music could be. The first 3 tracks were entirely different from what I expected. I love soul music

Jul 21 2026

This album really is amazing. Eazy E is so sick and Dr Dre might be actually the goat. I love how raw and emotional it is, even if the style is a bit dated

The Predator by Ice Cube
Jul 22 2026

Like Straight Outta Compton, a lot of what Ice Cube does flow wise feels pretty dated, but he isn’t propped up by E and Dre here and the album is weaker for it. However, the emotion is here and cube has a lot to say about a lot of important things.

Who's Next by The Who
Jul 23 2026

This is the best album by probably my favorite rock band of this era. I love every part of every track. Keith Moon’s drumming is absolutely incredible, he plays it like a lead instrument. Pete Townsend seems like his dream was to write broadway musicals, but he was cursed with being a rock star. Truly perfect

Atomizer by Big Black
Jul 24 2026

I did like this one. Steve Albini is a racist pos though and the first song is about raping a child so that’s kind of weird

The Fat Of The Land by The Prodigy
Jul 27 2026

Really sick album, felt like a ps2 racing game in the best way. Fire album cover too

Jul 28 2026

A perfect expression of Nirvana’s music. The originals are laid bare and raw, and the covers truly shine here. No skip, perennial relisten, perfection.

S&M by Metallica
Jul 29 2026
Groovin' by The Young Rascals
Jul 30 2026

This project is fun because you get to listen to an album you’ve never heard before and will never hear again.

Something/Anything? by Todd Rundgren
Jul 31 2026

Another day, another good album that I’ll never listen to again

Talking Book by Stevie Wonder
Aug 03 2026

Excellent album. Stevie is a fixture in pop culture and it’s clear why. I had only been familiar with superstition from this album but there’s gem after gem here

Brothers In Arms by Dire Straits
Aug 04 2026

A fantastic album with really great genre crossing. Mark is a guitar genius. I was hoping for more doodo doo. Doot dot doo (doo do)

Soul Mining by The The
Aug 05 2026

Good, but ultimately forgettable

Brutal Youth by Elvis Costello
Aug 06 2026

I like a lot of other Elvis Costello albums, but this one was fairly forgettable. Sort of like if someone made an album trying to be Elvis Costello

Life's Too Good by The Sugarcubes
Aug 07 2026

This was good but I wasn’t really in the mood for it

Aug 10 2026

I really love the atmosphere, production, and theme of this album. Really fun to listen to and shows you what rap music can be. These guys were all so young it’s crazy. I like ODB’s funny voice

Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin
Aug 11 2026

I try so hard to enjoy LED Zeppelin, but I just can’t get over that awful squawking, moaning voice. The greatest rock band in history, ruined by horrible singing.

Triangle by The Beau Brummels
Aug 12 2026

“There's an old joke - um... two elderly women are at a Catskill mountain resort, and one of 'em says, "Boy, the food at this place is really terrible." The other one says, "Yeah, I know; and such small portions." Well, that's essentially how I feel about life - full of loneliness, and misery, and suffering, and unhappiness, and it's all over much too quickly.” -Woody Allen

Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem
Aug 13 2026

Beneath the irony and silly voices, there’s some really incredible music here. A lot of it feels like an acquired taste
