Ella Fitzgerald’s voice is incredible, warm, precise and full of joy as usual. I listened to this start to finish while going about my morning and it was very pleasant background music, but got pretty dull after a while. This is a lot of jazz standards for the average listener to sit through in one go. Also, listen on shuffle so you don’t end up with a whole disk of instrumentals at the end.
A lot of this is just a little too discordant for my taste, but it’s a fun listen. “Where is my mind?” is a classic and the album never stops being interesting. “Gigantic” might be a new favorite. You can really hear the Nirvana/Hole roots in this album. I only knew “Cactus” from the Bowie cover, so that was cool to find.
Would give a 4.5 if we could do half stars. Dance music just isn’t my genre, but I have a soft spot for some funk and this is FUNK! Listened to it twice, awesome workout/driving music. Now I’m gonna have “Give up the Funk” stuck in my head all week. Not that mad about it.
Not a big fan of ballads. I’ll belt out “Hello” with the best of ‘em when it comes on, but I really don’t need a whole album of melodrama for the background of my life.
I respect the artistry of his old man spoken word poetry, but this album seems scientifically designed to put me to sleep.

I was not familiar with this artist at all and based on the artwork I expected this to be heavier/grungier than it is. Some beautiful moments but overall a little dull.
It’s got weird old voice clips and barnyard sounds. Some of the tracks are mostly just grunting or yelling. And then all of a sudden it’s fucking ethereal for a second. And then they go back to grating the guitar in my ear. And I think I love it.
Ive heard some of these songs, but never would have guessed for most of these, (without the album title) that they were originally considered country/western songs. Except “Hey Good Lookin’” I’ve heard Hank Williams’ voice coming from Fallout more times than I can count.
That is to say, Ray Charles transformed these songs from country/western standards into jazz standards and gave them some staying power they wouldn’t have had. I’d put on this album during a family party or dinner, which I can’t say about Hank Williams.

Way too many words set to the most insipid music.
“The fox in the snow” and “get me away from here, I’m dying” were the highlight for me because they chilled out on the words per second and I could enjoy the pretty music for a few mins. “Me and the Major” almost made me turn it off.
I think I may just not like this singer very much.
This album is such a mixed bag for me. “Tangled up in blue” and “simple twist of fate” are brilliant and I’ve loved them for years. “Idiot Wind” and “Jack of hearts” are repetitive droning garbage. The rest just kinda fades into the background.
I love a group of women willing to just be as weird as hell. This album is so much fun and unlike anything else. The way they incorporate reagge beats is so reminiscent of ‘90s alt but this is ‘79! It’s a wild album.
Some lovely intro and outtro soundscapes with a lot of forgettable stuff in between. They did some interesting things in Boxing Day, but then it ended so abruptly. I’ve definitely heard other songs do that to good effect, but this just feels like a glitch in the album.
Honestly, I’m spending too much time trying to justify this albums place on the list. Not worth the time, take it off
High and Dry, Fake Plastic Trees, My Iron Lung. Maybe not Radiohead’s “best” album, but these are some of the most beautiful songs ever recorded. Listened twice today and it was better the second time.

I don’t love live albums, but this album is a beautiful little time capsule. A warm, smokey club on a rainy Chicago night.

It’s basically poetry set to pleasant music, but I’d want to sit and listen to this whole album about as often as I sit and read through a book of poetry. Which is not never, but pretty rare.
I love hip hop beats and some of the rhymes are phenomenal. I’m just so tired of this womanizing, violent, money hungry archetype.
It’s pouring rain and I’ve ducked into the lobby bar of a NYC hotel. I relax and warm up with an old fashioned and the soft, intricate notes of the Dave Brubeck Quartet.
Great for studying or relaxing, too chill for chores.

It’s so wild to me that Darling Nikki, a raw, experimental thing that triggered the first album content ratings, is followed by When Doves Cry, which might be the most quintessential 80s pop hit.
This album isn’t boring for a second, but I could use less of Prince’s shrieking high notes.

Absolutely not what I expected from something called Screamadelica by Primal Scream. A little disappointed by the lack of screaming. Pretty fun album, though.

Meh. Proud Mary is a good song, but I prefer Tina anytime. The rest was a bit of a dull slog to get through.
I try to finish these albums, but I got about 3 mins into the last song, saw how much longer they wanted me to keep on fucking chooglin’ and noped out.
I just can’t get into this. Each song is the same riff over and over and the lyrics are mostly just the titles being repeated. I can hear the influence this had on rock, especially late 60s and 70s, but I can hear that it had the most influence on all of my least favorite songs of the era.
Oh goody, another group of 60s dudes doing country-fried roots rock. It’s not bad music, it’s just kind of there. The last track is literally elevator music!
Some decent 90s Britpop weirdness. The lead singers accent and nasal tone was hard to listen to in the first half, but I guess you just get inoculated to it after awhile.
Quick, fun. Blueberry Hill is a classic. Great album for cleaning day!

This is why I do this, never would of heard of or sought out this artist, but I enjoyed the hell out of this.
I definitely prefer this album to most Foo Fighters stuff. It’s pretty varied, Dave Grohl trying to figure out his sound post-Nirvana. I just wish he hadn’t settled on the shit they’ve been doing for 30 years now.
This is very cool music, I just have trouble getting into music when I don’t understand the lyrics. My failing, not theirs.

Mixed bag, It’s certainly never boring but they lose me when they go into long instrumentals or blues-y stuff.
I had heard of Peter Gabriel, but I’m ashamed to say that I thought most of these were Phil Collins for most of my life. Only ever heard them in stores or on the radio with no name attached. Luckily, I have a soft spot for Phil Collins thanks to Tarzan, so without knowing it I’ve grown very fond of Peter Gabriel through my life.
I can get into this fun weirdness for a little while. An hour is too much. And the vocals are truly awful. If it was just the instrumental parts, I’d give it a 3.
Aggressively meh. I don’t know why this album is notable over any other obscure indie band from the 90s. I didn’t hate listening to it, I was just bored and frustrated with the whole list.

More interesting than I feared. Mother is hilarious. I can’t believe I’ve never heard King of Pain before. The creepiness of Every Breath you Take is so much better in the context of the album. Good time had.
I’d probably enjoy this music if it wasn’t a mediocre live recording with 1000 tone deaf randos singing along.
50 albums in and we’re finally in my pop-punk wheelhouse. I love this era of angsty-grunge sliding into exuberant, goofy punk. This album is lightning in a bottle, and by lightning I mean the wildly fluctuating desires and morals of adolescence.
